Happy Wednesday!
This week has brought warm and sunny weather to Lane’s End, which means many happy horses!
12Z received a visit from the blacksmith yesterday, during which his feet were assessed and trimmed. He was quite the well behaved colt! Alys was there to document the occasion, so you can watch the whole process on video below.
Enjoy!

Dear Alys and Lanes Ends,
Such very lovely photos of 12 Z getting his feet trimmed. So very much love the
videos – he is such a very “good boy”. The staff at Lanes End has taught him his
foal, weanling and yearling lessons well. Love the way his ears “swivel” as everyone
moves and talks around him. That Zenny curiosity sure does show. Have really
love to see him grow and develop. This is a very special site and WE ARE ALL GREATFUL TO HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE AS HE GROWS UP.
THANKS FOR NOTICING AND BEING SUCH A GREAT TEAM FOR ZENNY AND HER
FIRST FOAL.
PS: ZENNY LOOKS SO GOOD “WATCHING OVER” 12 Z WHILE HE GETS HIS TRIM;
SHE LOOKS GORGEOUS AND SOON TO FOAL ANOTHER -13 Z !!!
THANKS SO VERY MUCH FOR ALL THAT YOU ARE DOING FOR US.

Dear Zenny Fans, Dumplings and All,
Thank you God for gracing us with the ability to renew and refresh.
We call upon the storehouse of vigor and stamina that comes

God is on our side.
Together we can change hearts

DAILY RACING FORM; POINT OF ENTRY UNDER CONSIDERATION FOR TRIP

Gulfstream Park: Point of Entry under consideration for trip to Dubai
By Mike Welsch
Barbara D. Livingston
Point of Entry will run Feb. 9 in the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap, and then could go to Dubai for the Sheema Classic.
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Animal Kingdom may not be the only horse using the Grade 1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap on Feb. 9 as a possible stepping-stone for a race on the Dubai World Cup card six weeks later.
Trainer Graham Motion is using the Gulfstream Park Turf as a prep for Animal Kingdom for the $10 million Dubai World Cup on March 30. His colleague, Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey, confirmed Friday that he is considering taking Point of Entry to Dubai for the $5 million Sheema Classic, to be run at 1 1/2 miles on the grass at Meydan on World Cup Night.
The Phipps Stable sold an interest in homebred Point of Entry to Gulfstream Park’s chairman Frank Stronach in December. Point of Entry has not started since finishing a late-surging second behind Little Mike in the Breeders’ Cup Turf. That setback snapped a five-race winning streak for Point of Entry which included three Grade 1 victories.
“We’ve got Dubai penciled in on the schedule, but it’s not etched in stone, only the race on February 9th is etched in stone at this point,” McGaughey said by phone from Ocala, Fla., on Wednesday. “But the race in Dubai is a mile and one-half over firm turf for a lot of money, so it’s something we’ve been thinking about. He’ll run in the first one here and we’ll see after that.”

Thanks for photos/videos.
Barbara Brayton
Thank you for the pictures. Zenyatta looks great, the bun is ready to come out of the oven!. 12Z is growing fast and looking good also.
Beverly Bonneau
Wow, I haven’t checked in on baby Z in ages. He sure grew! He’s a beauty! AND what a good boy having his feet done! I think that was Zenny watching on? Beautiful. I love her. Do horses have ultrasounds to see what the baby will be? Hope she has another healthy horse whatever sex it is. Great pictures and video’s.
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
Zenny is not watching. The yearlings are in their own barns. In fact, IIRC, they are in a separate division of the farm. You may be thinking of the video of 12Z’s first trim, in which she was definitely hovering.
it’s possible to sex the foal via ultrasound at a couple of points in the pregnancy, and it is often done. (For example, it has been known for months that Rachel Alexandra is carrying a filly.) The Mosses like surprises though, so Zenyatta’s Tapit foal hasn’t been sexed.
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club; RN philosopher
Dear Beverly,
I think Lanes End put Zenny’s photo on top to make it look like she is still
watching her darling son and making sure he is learning his “lessons” well.
And of course for us to see her, the lovely QUEEN MAMA !!!
They are now in separate parts of the farm. Did you enjoy those ears
“swivling”? They are too cute, following everyone around him from one side
to the other then both sides. He learned his expressions well from his mom.

Thank you so much for the lovely pic of Zenyatta—can’t wait to see her new baby!

This is good news. He gave me quite a thrill in 2011. I was participating in a “pool” for the Belmont Stakes. There were only about three horses left in the pool to select from, Ruler on Ice being one, and so I just randomly picked him and needless to say he paid for my dinner that night. Ha-ha. He’s a gelding so I hope he goes to the Kentucky Horse Park or Old Friends when he retires. Wish I could take him.

He’s beautiful, and so obedient for his pedicure. What’s his official height now, any hint that he may have his mom’s stature?

That is a great question to ask the Experts, as it is hard to tell from photos

is visible also.
Like John says about “E” she is built much more like a Bernardini !!!

How can anything negative be said about these beautiful horses and the wonderful people that pamper them? Don’t they know that as Federico Tesio noted, …” if not for the finish line, the thoroughbred would not exist.” The thoroughbred loves to run and anyone that saw Zenyatta would agree.
Cheers! Can’t wait to see 12Z on the track!

New pictures and videos… what a treat! As always, thank you to the Mosses, Lane’s End, Team Z, the website peeps, and everyone else who contributes to the care of Zenny and her babies, and who keeps us supplied with such wonderful updates. And of course thanks to Alyse for her always beautiful camera work!
Z12 is learning his lessons well. In addition to the necessity of taking care of his feet, all of this groundwork will contribute to making him easier to handle when he grows up, and I’m sure Lane’s End devotes the same care and patient training to all the youngsters in their care. To reiterate what everyone else has been saying, I can’t believe how BIG he is… it’s hard to tell when he’s outside with his buddies but when you see him next to people, he honestly looks almost as tall as many full grown horses… I think he’s going to be as big as his mom if not more. He looks like he’s growing into a horse that will absolutely take people’s breath away!

I’ve been seeing some posts asking about “when is “12Z” going to get his name?” Just out of curiosity, and because sometimes I like to play detective, I thought I would see what names starting with Z have been “reserved” in the Thoroughbred Registry. I’m not saying these were reserved for anyone we love (and I wouldn’t say it is a “given” that the eventual name will even start with a Z).
So just for fun, here are a few I found.

Dear Linda,
Remember Zenyatta was known as “Little Tige” at Winter Quarter farm at 12 Z’s
age. She did not have a name until she went to John Sherriffs barn after 2 year
old training at the Mayberry’s. The Mayberry’s told David Ingordo that
“she was very special” and they really need to think of a good name.
The Mosses think of the best names, and waiting for this one is definately worth
the wait.

Dear Judy,
Of course, Zenyatta got training at the Mayberrys before she moved to John’s barn. I’m just saying she went to John’s at the BEGINNING of her 2yo year, not AFTER it. Here’s the time schedule:
Zenyatta was born April 1, 2004. She was bought by the Mosses at the September yearling sales at Keeneland in September 2005. She was with the Mayberrys from October 2005 to May 2006, then she went to John’s barn, so she arrived there early in her two-year-old year, not at the end.

Dear Judy B,
No apology necessary Judy B, you are correct.
I did not mention ANY timeframe in my post
“Zenny went to John Shirreff’s barn after two year old
training (no timeframe), and was then named”.
The comment from Trina was “Zenny got her 2 year old
training at John Shirreff’s barn”, which is INCORRECT as
you pointed out; she received it from the Mayberry’s and
you posted the link that showed she got her training there.
It is important when commenting to read the post in it’s entirity
