Happy Wednesday!
This week has brought warm and sunny weather to Lane’s End, which means many happy horses!
12Z received a visit from the blacksmith yesterday, during which his feet were assessed and trimmed. He was quite the well behaved colt! Alys was there to document the occasion, so you can watch the whole process on video below.
Enjoy!

Dropping by to see momma and junior! Loved the films! Would love to see more current films of Zenny…i always seem to miss her, even though i have her famous portrait on my wall and her Beyer near me. She looks a bit sad in this photo–hope all goes well with the delivery, like it did the last time when she did it all herself!!! I really don’t care what color the baby is as long as it’s healthy and momma is healthy. I have a funny feeling that Zenny’s color will be dominant in the new foal…we’ll see! Zenny, I have always loved you and always will. That’s what this site is about–honoring the greatest race mare of all time who also happens to be a wise and beautiful and slightly fey creature of wonder.

Thank you sooooo much. He is adorable and the picture of Zenyatta is beautiful. She is VERY pregnant!! Can’t wait to see new baby. Also cannot wait to find out 12Z’s name. Hope it will be soon.

Thank you again Lands End for your time spent giving us further updates on Baby Z and Zennie herself. You’ve spent a great deal of time helping to keep them in the public eye and letting us all live our dreams through your posts.
I am a former horse person and still appreciate everything posted. Keep up the great work and keep us informed (and in love) with these wonderful pictures and sharing of the lives of these noble horses and their keepers/owners.
Have a great day!
Yvonne
Love the pictures! Thanks so much for the updates!

I love seeing Z…… she was like me….seems bigger with second pregnancy. Hope all goes well….keep us posted. Z12 is adorable….love the way he keeps his eyes on things and those precious ears….just like Z’s. I guess I have not read the hostility blogs and thank goodness. That is why I am not on Twitter….cannot stand the evil thoughts and nasty comments people make. I try to say they are just unhappy people and probably so….but to me they can just keep the nasty thoughts to themselves. I like happy comments and thoughts….life is so precious and so short….I am 66….so I know….we need to not be so hateful….. yes life is hard at times….but do not take it out on other people….be kind ….and maybe that kindness will come your way. I also want to thank Ann and Jerry again for sharing Z, her colt, and themselves with us. I love seeing the pictures of Ann and Jerry with Z. It just makes me feel good to see that bond of love and kindness between them. Hope everyone on here has a happy day!!!!

Thank you Alys for the pictures and videos. He is getting to be such a big boy an so handsome.
I stopped going to this blog because it talks about everything in the world except Zenyatta , Team Zenyatta , 12 Z and her connections.
I so appreciate Team Zenyatta allowing us access to our great mare and keeping us informed of her and 12Z’s progress.
Thank you so much.
Does anyone know when is Zenyatta’s due date?
So looking forward to the foaling .
Love hugs and kisses to all connections and our gorgeous Zenyatta , 12Z and all of their friends.

Thanks for the information and video. Zenny looks beautiful as always, and yes she is very heavy in foal. 12Z looks more like Zenny everyday. How often does Lanes End usually trim there feet, I try to do my horses four to six times per year. I agree with some other comments that this site was and is meant to honor Zenny, and I hope everyone remembers this. I’m like everyone else can’t wait to know what 12Z’s name will be, and I can’t wait to see the new Tapit foal. Thanks Lanes End for your continued dedication to this website and for taking such good care of Zenny and the Prince.
Margaret
Boy this is a tough question! Adult horses can be trimmed every 6-8 weeks. But youngsters? Not sure if there feet grow faster or not. Then you have to consider if a horse has laminitis. I saw an article on The Horse not too long ago about vets recommending barefoot trimming. When Barbaro broke down I remember lots of people commenting about barefoot trimming. Lots of people swear by it.
I know someone else who’s horse had stem cell therapy. It wasn’t laminitis but things started going bad. Who knew? So far that therapy seems to have totally turned things around. Not sure if this horse is shod.
It depends on what sport you are in. Like is the horse going over a lot stones and rocks? They may well benefit from shoes but then if they have tough feet it might be better to go barefoot.
I know I haven’t given you much of an answer. I guess its just so individual. As for the name–I know my answer isn’t going to be too popular. Just be patient. The Moss’s are so aware that we want to know. It’s kinda like Z when she was pregnant–they didn’t have the baby tested for sex. They wanted to be surprised. It may be the same thing here.
In the meantime choose a name that you feel comfortable with. Hopefully not Dumbbell or something like that…If all else fails call him 12Z.
Allen
Trisha I think Zenny is due around March 22
Ashley
Thank you for the updates!! It did my day when there is a new Zenyatta photo! :)

Love these pictures and have been following Zenyatta a long time. Hope she and her new foal stays heallthy as 12Z and we can see them in the future. Thanks so much for sharing…

All legs and knees! He’s going to be a big boy!

He is really growing into a gorgeous horse. It makes me wonder what he’ll look like a year from now when he’s a 2-year-old. In the meantime, Z’s getting ready to have 13Z and we can start the process all over again with another baby. Yeah!

I was reading a novel recently and there was a ship named ESPERANCE which means HOPE OR EXPECTATION in French, I think. Wouldn’t that be a great name for 12Z? Especially as his grand dam and aunt have French names.
Especially Horses / So Cal
Well there was no direct match for it on the Online Names Book for The Jockey Club Registry. The meaning of the name certainly is a fit. Maybe “fancy” it up a bit as Z Esperance.
Louise Castello
Personally, I think that would be a beautiful name for Z12. I like it a lot.
ronni
He’s gotten so big!! Zenny looks fabulous – fat and happy – and muddy from a good roll! Lanes End staff, Alys, Jerry and Ann Moss – thank you so much for sharing so much of Zenny and 12Z!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Wow! What great pictures and videos!! As some others have mentioned, I’m not experienced enough to see the mud on Zenny, but I’ll take the word of the experts that it’s there (and I hope she enjoyed herself). Isn’t our Prince something?? And so well behaved. As Keta said on the previous page, I remember the first time we saw some shots of him getting a visit from the farrier with Mama Z watching every more that man made! HA! How time flies.
On another note, have been watching the terrible weather in Alabama and Georgia and now bearing down on North Carolina. Hope that Ann and Marshall and all of the other peeps who live in the areas are safe from the storms. Prayers for all.
Sandy

Sandy,
Here is the earlier Blog
Life at Lane’s End: Time for a Trim April 16, 2012
It’s that time! Baby Z just had his feet trimmed for the first time. Dr. Scott Morrison is the farrier that trims all foals and yearlings at Lane’s End. He is a veterinarian who specializes in podiatry, and he was kind enough to write this piece explaining the importance of foot management in young horses. Thank you Dr. Morrison!

Dear Sandy,
Thanks for those kind words. So far, so good. I hope we miss any extreme storms — it has been quite windy, but up to this point, the lights have flickered once or twice.
Everyone, stay safe! Hugs!

Prayers for you, Marshall, and for Mary in Boone, Pati, Ann, and Lisa Dickerson also in NC and Sarah Powell in Clemson, SC–are there any other Z-sters in the Carolinas? Prayers for all.

Thank you very very much Lanes End, Team Z, and the Mosses for all you share with us. You are all absolutely the best! I just love these photos/videos.
My first thought when I saw Zenny in the top photo was, she looks like she is thinking “Ok, I have had my mud spa, now I am ready for a nap”
I hope 12Z got some peppermint treats after being so well behaved. He just amazes me with all that he is.
Zenyatta and 12Z, love you forever, my angels. Thanks again Lanes End.
Love to all.
