For Zenyatta, it doesn’t get much better than peppermints and cool water on a hot summer day. Zenyatta received this peppermint “necklace” from her friend Tiana, and she absolutely loved it! After wearing it around for a bit she politely asked Charles if she could try a few bites.

    Sheena; Yes it will eventually be winter again. I dress in layers and bring heat paks for my hands on very cold days. (put in gloves) At least you can dress but when heat index is 100 I can not strip down! ha ha

      Even if you could strip down, you would still be sweltering! Plus, extra coverage of sunscreen would be necessary. OW, the sunburn if you missed a spot!

    Thank you so much for the update on Jackson Bend. He is one of my favorites & I hadn’t been able to find out what he was up to. I was going to seek out Nick Zito (his former trainer) when I go to Saratoga to see what he knew about JB.

    Fellow Z Fans,
    I thought it was pretty interesting that Bird Song, owned by Marylou Whitney won the third race at Saratoga on Sunday, the same day Songbird won her race. Bird Song was Marylou’s 1st winner at Saratoga since 2013. She is by Unbridled’s Song & out of Bird Town, a Whitney stakes winning mare. I am very happy for Marylou because she & her husband, John Hendrickson, have done so much for Saratoga & horseracing. They have been especially generous with programs for the backstretch workers & their families. Marylou & John are very generous just like the Mosses.

    Tonight is very muggy & it feels like a sauna when I go outside. We’re going to have a very hot & muggy week here in the Saratoga area & I hope that everyone who works with the horses is extra careful with them because of the weather. The horses from CA are not used to this humidity & need to be watched carefully. I hope they all have fans for their stalls.

    An old Indian chief once told the governor of Pennsylvania that Indians are not easily frightened. He said his people let the mice play in the woods without being afraid of the sound. Neither were they afraid of the sound of the wind in the woods.
    How many times have we heard a bump in the night and went, with trembling knees, to locate the source? Things scare us when we least expect it. Maybe that happens in order to remind us to be alert-but not to live in a tense way. Let things happen, even check on them, but try not to run scared all the time.

    RIP JT(John Thomas)McNamara who suffered complications in recent days following a devastating fall from Galaxy Rock in the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham festival in 2013.He returned to his home and beloved family some 15months later.Courageous in life and the saddle he is now at peace.Deepest sympathy to Caroline, Dylan,Harry and Olivia.JT was just 41yrs old.Sheena

    Dear Kathy.I am amazed you thought I was shopping yesterday.I spend my Mondays turtling!In my sock during the winter of course.Showery here today but dry at Goodwood.Sad news about JT he was so courageous.Have you seen Emyr’s blog about Ceri?I have posted on my timeline or you could visit theirs.Their LS isn’t working today but they do have a link up and Tegid is in the nest.I have often wondered how she must have felt during those 12 hours on the ground she must have been very frightened and never recovered from the shock.She touched many lives during her short time with us.I have surprised myself by how I have wept.You know British stiff upper-lip and all that.
    Yet more sad news from Rouen in France with a priest getting murdered today.He was 84.These people are savages and have no place in modern society.My heart weeps for the world and that sickening attack in Japan.He wanted disabled people to disappear??

Poor little Ceri, was just trying to be close to her mom. I know, it’s so sad to contemplate what she was thinking. If only she could have survived. She was so beautiful. Hadn’t heard about the priest. How dreadful! I don’t know. Seems like every day something horrible occurs. We’ll all have to watch War Decree. Glad to hear Larry is back out.     Trainers look for hope when they eyeball young horses. Trainer D. Wayne Lukas did not see much reason for optimism when he first laid his eyes on Lady’s Secret.
    She lacked size and never would weigh much. She appeared to be anything but robust.
    “I was really concerned that she was never going to amount to anything,” Lukas recalled of the daughter of Secretariat who was foaled in 1982 at a farm he then owned in Oklahoma.
    Then again, looks can be deceiving. In the case of Lady’s Secret, they were incredibly deceiving.

      Thanks for these two posts. Lady’s Secret was a brilliant filly! Something of her papa in there. Enjoyed watching the BC Distaff 1986. It was almost like she was teasing her competitors. Sad that she wasn’t successful as a broodmare.

    The slightest gust of wind can ruffle the surface of the pond so that the reflection of everything around it is distorted. A troubled thought can do the same thing to our minds. We cannot control the wind, driven as it is by nature. But we can control our own minds, examine our thoughts, and decide what they are founded on and why they distress us. Many times we find that we have picked up on someone else’s trouble. We want to help, but we need to resist making their problem our own. Help others, of course, but do not let yourself take on their burden as your own. The best way to help others is to learn how to handle our own walk of life so that we do not stumble.     Dear Kathy.No indeed we cannot control nature or our thoughts.It’s turned out sunny after a pretty wet night.Sadly,Go Heretic collapsed in the first race and we are waiting to hear news.It was a long flat race and Nicky Henderson trains.
    All is well at the Dyfi Glesni may leave earlier this year because she only has the one chick who knows?They are going to replace the Boing perch not very safe in the wind!

    Sad news from Goodwood.Go Heretic collapsed and died during the first race.It was a very sultry day there.My sympathy is always for the horse.RIP
    The Gurkha won the Sussex stakes for Aidan and Ryan another son of the phenomenal Galileo.Galileo Gold could have done with a pacemaker he had to make the running but was a close 2nd.Mark Johnston’s Yalta broke the course record in the sprint.

    The talented 3-year-old Stradivari underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the fractured right front ankle he suffered during training here last week.
    On Wednesday morning, trainer Todd Pletcher said doctors at the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Saratoga “were pleased late yesterday afternoon after the surgery and after recovey. So far, so good.”
