For Zenyatta, it doesn’t get much better than peppermints and cool water on a hot summer day. Zenyatta received this peppermint “necklace” from her friend Tiana, and she absolutely loved it! After wearing it around for a bit she politely asked Charles if she could try a few bites.
Happy weekend!

Stonestreet Stables’ homebred filly Rachel’s Valentina, who is out of Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, has been retired. No reason was given, but Stonestreet said the 3-year-old by Bernardini “will now retire from racing, sound and injury-free.” I’m glad she is healthy and will be able to continue the Rachel Alexander line.

Just saw on Bloodhorse.com that Rachel’s Valentina has been retired. No reason given. Said she was healthy and uninjured. It seems our two champs are having bad luck with their “kids” when it comes to racing. Thankfully all 4 seem to be in good health and no matter what will be loved and cared for always.
Max
If you are a jockey, you can ride and win with whatever talented and willing creature who comes forward. Would like to see videos of these races.

Songbird All Heart at Saratoga (RACE REPLAY VIDEO)
By Jeremy Balan The Blood-Horse July 24, 2016
The Graveyard of Champions had nothing on the champ that took to the track July 24.
Fox Hill Farms’ undefeated Songbird, as if she wanted to toy with onlookers and viewers across the nation to build the drama, took Carina Mia’s best shot during the final turn in the $500,000 Coaching Club American Oaks (gr. I) and the challenger moved on to even terms turning for home, but the indefatigable daughter of Medaglia d’Oro was still able to win in her signature fashion.

Songbird and Mike sang a beautiful duet down the stretch. Think she enjoys showing her heels to the others. So glad all came home safely.
In this world of hate and trouble it is such a comfort to come here to the blog and be with friends and see the peaceful pictures of Zenyatta. Wish she could know how much joy she has brought to so many people. A once in forever horse.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear BGG,
Thanks for the link to the CCAO race. Songbird is all heart and determination; she ran a great race. Carina Mia gave her a good run, but Songbird replied with an “Oh no you’re not”! Songbird and Mike are a tough duo.

Thank you Lane’s End for this lovely photographs of Zenyatta. You could not look more elegant if you were wearing Chopard jewels. Your necklace is just too cute. Life is good when you get treats and a bit of a hose shower. We know that at our home as my German Shepherds favorite pastime is the hose in the hot summer.
Did not see the 10th race yesterday and so happy to hear of your John’s win.
Will watch it straightaway.

Wow, has it been a test of my love for the remaining two horses Fancy and Jo, and the two goats Blackie and Brownie at the Sanctuary. Since I am heading up North next week, and would not be around to help with additional day or days, I had done my Tues. but had indicated two weeks ago I would do Thurs., Fri., and Sun PM of this week. The hottest weather hit by Thursday!! Although Thurs PM a storm blew up while I was out there with such heavy strong winds the horses looked so awesome with their manes blowing so and their eyes “wild with thinking to flee” as they came in to what they consider their safe haven, their stalls. I assured them all would be okay even though I did not know about this storm myself, but things settled down and all was right.
Fri. and Sun PM I was dripping wet it was so hot that I turned on the hose to add water to the trough and took it and ran it all on my neck. Horses did not care if there was a wet T shirt either! Hoping for only 80’s next time.
love and hugs, Sally B
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Sally:
So glad to hear the storm was not an issue for you or the horses. It’s been so very hot and humid here too that the girls are not putting Hudson through training as much as usual. Charlie has been out in this heat all day and night; just coming in for breakfast. He makes a fuss if Angela puts him in his stall for too long. He just loves being in the paddock with his mates.
I want to say how very much I admire you for all you do for Fancy and Jo (and Blackie and Brownie) in all weather conditions. You’re a very special lady. Have a wonderful trip up north. Love and Hugs, JB

July 25 Cherokee Devotional
Emerson said, “The louder he talked of his honor, the faster we counted our spoons.” We hope no one wants to count their spoons after hearing something we say, but every person expresses himself differently. A feeling of inferiority makes all of us want to appear in the best light. If no one else says something kind about us, we may, out of the need to be equal with others, say something that irritates other honorable natures. And yet, here again, we could let it go by without comment. To be one’s self is the best way to show our honor. If we care who we are and we try to be decent people without a need to compete, we are doing something honorable. Who we really are is always honorable-it is what we have erroneously added to it out of insecurity that rattles the spoons.
You say you are right and we are lost. How do you know this is true?

Tiana,
What a glorious idea. Zenyatta has from day one knew she was special.
Most champions live in the limelight of retirement and it gradually fades away. Zenyatta will never see lonely days. She truly is that one in a zillion so don’t be to hard on her offspring. Having a foal that would turn out to be half of what Zenyatta is, is like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack. It’s fun to watch her life play out and us lucky ones who have got to see it firsthand experience the magic.
