Looks like I’m running late. The time sure does fly in the mornings! I felt bad that Wookie had to go back in for oxygen last night. But he’s home again so that’s a good sign, I guess. Amazing that Fubu is still with us. He’s such a sick kitty! I saw that Grumpy Cat is getting a waxwork. Pretty cool! Seems Ray is always mentioning another friend now gone. Sad. Zoe was having trouble posting her picture this morning. She is quite the sports fan. Glad the Fly is getting lots of tributes. He certainly deserves every one! Have a good Tuesday. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Watched your DVD of your first 14 races including that “unbelievable”

Cirrus des Aigles is back!!He’s making his first trip across the Irish sea for the Champion stakes and will (depending on the ground) meet Gleneagles.Divided loyalties for me!Sheena.
Just beautiful, Alys — more like a painting than a photograph.
Ahhh. Those misty mornings, eh Zenny? This is when you get to morph for real into the dream girl that you really are.
Love to my Zen family.
I’m quite caught up in volunteer work and a project to help support horse rescues here and in Canada. So far, my GoFundMe campaign has raised enough money to send donations to Our Mims and a Canadian horse rescue, as well as lending a hand to save HALE and another older standardbred gelding. HALE is now home in NH and turning out to be the sweetest boy ever. His owner says that from the moment he stepped off the horse van, he seemed to understand that he was at his forever home. And, it would appear that he was driven rather than ridden.
It feels so wonderful to use THE VAULT to take action on horse slaughter and horses-at-risk!
Love & hugs to everyone, peppermint kisses to Zenny and the boys. Love you forever, Z Princess.
I cannot understand why Aidan would want to send Gleneagles out to the US for the classic! He’s a turf horse.I always thank God that Juddmonte had first choice of the foals in 2008 when Frankel was born.Sheena.
Agree with you Sheena. Gleneagles has never been farther than a mile and he’s a turf horse. We remember previous O’Brien calls on Giant’s Causeway, George Washington and Galileo. It did not work out, and for GW, it was a tragic end.
Juddmonte ran Twice Over in the Classic against Zenyatta in 2009. Needless to say, he lost.
Max and Sheena,
I agree with you. Gleneagles is a beautiful very talented horse but 1-1/4 on dirt going the “wrong” way around the track is a pretty big order especially in a year when we have so many very very good horses here at home.

Good field. Have to say I am intrigued by that name Effinex! Guess the owner was really mad at his ex wife. Be careful not to make him too angry if your husband owns race horses, you might see your namesake out there!

Judy,
I was watching the race he won before and they were talking about the name. It is supposed to be for the owner’s ex wife. Was recently divorced when he named the horse. Don’t know if this is true or not but makes a really funny story. This guy is creative if nothing else.
OMG, it never ends. Just googled his pedigree chart (linked below). He’s only 4 years old. There’s a note right on the chart that he was rescued from a kill pen on 8/29/15. It’s horrendous how many are not rescued. He sold as a yearling for $300K. Sadly, most are not as lucky as Grand Stand. God Bless him. Happy life beautiful boy. Love and Hugs, JB

Thanks for all you do with your amazing Vault articles and now with your work saving horses from slaughter.I looked at One Horse at a Time on the Vault this morning and the photo of the sweet rescued horse Hale grazing at his forever home with his new companion was so heart warming( two beautiful chestnuts!). I also looked at the video of the black gelding you are trying to save from slaughter this coming Saturday. He is stunning and such a gentle boy as he was shown being ridden bareback- loved his presence, lovely walk and he stopped on a dime.I was so impressed and am envisioning a forever home for him too.Thank-you for making a difference, sending love and appreciation.

The YouTube long version of the interview is good, too. In that, Ricci is almost bitten by another Champ! What a barn visit he had.
Glad everyone enjoyed The Fly.
As Max stated, glad he retired sound and with good spirit.
Dear Sheena,
Galileo came in 3rd in the BCC against Tiznow and Sakid. Galileo has bred dirt horses.
There are no fighters like Tiznow in the BCC although Frosted is pretty close and there is no Arc winner. Sakid was a turf horse and he almost won the classic, if Tiznow was not as tough as he is Sakid would have won and his sire is a turf sire. Adian wants to win the BCC and so does Coolmore Ireland. Gleneagles is more versatile than AP and may be able to beat him. Whoo hoo let the competition begin.
Love and hugs
Galileo was 6th in that race. It was a mistake to try to run him on dirt when his experience was all on turf. He was never the same horse again and was immediately retired after the race. The runner up to Tiznow was Sakhee, not Sakid.
It is way premature to say that there will be no fighters in the BCC as there is no announced final lineup. A lot can happen between now and the day of the race. Horses, as Elizabeth II said, have a way of surprising us all.
Tizgood
Galileo has bred dirt horses and Coolmore Ireland wants to win the BCC,
there was nothing wrong with Galileo after that race. Sorry 3rd !!!!
What a gorgeous guy, I wonder what his second career will be???
Maybe a hunt horse? How lucky he is to go back to such a lovely place

Soooo Excited. Adian came through the best race of the year !!!!
There is a colt named Keen Ice who will show up for the Classic. Sired by Curlin who we know can get the distance. And his kids just get better with age. Still think it is not the year for the Europeans in the Classic because of our home grown talent. And not saying Keen Ice and AP are out only good ones. Just too many to mention.
Tizgood
Never know, I love a good Euro challenge. Keen Ice just put it together
in the Traverse. Gleneagles is more mature. Frosted is more mature than Keen Ice. AP will be back in good form. Beholder has a wicked turn of foot and so does Gleneagles. We shall see.
Dear Sheena,
Read the racing post article about Haley Turner, sad she is giving up
her silks. Glad it is at the top of her game, harder for women in the UK,
hope she is sucessful as an announcer. All those injuries can have long-
term consequences.

Max,

Deb E,
Sorry for the mistake. Thank you for posting those great pics of our Red Prince.
Mullins has said that gelding had no effect at all on The Fly. He stayed as aggressive and singleminded as ever. Mullins also said that The Fly is still a handful. Mullins has got the scars to prove that.
Dear Max.Kauto wished the ‘Fly’ a happy retirement.I still feel so sad about him.Paul’s team had their first workout today.Roll on the new season. The ‘Fly’ was a little terrier!Sheena
Max
Miss Kauto too, and his attitude. Wonderful horse with the heart of a lion. Will never forget that last King George.
Dear Tizgood.I think it’s Sakhee that you are talking about a Godolphin horse. He did run a good race in the Classic. It was just after he won the Arc but I still don’t like the idea of Gleneagles coming over.He is a beautiful turf horse and should (weather permitting)end his career at Ascot Champion’s day.Hope we may get a lovely October.Hugs Sheena.
Dear Sheena,
I know how much you do not care for dirt racing, but the firm turf racing has been so poor
in the UK, Adian always opts for a dirt race here. Most of the horses that like the firm turf
like our dirt surface. CC ended up with a foot bruise from your firm turf so it can be as hard or harder than our dirt, but I know how you feel having lived your whole life in such a beautiful country. I would love to see the gorgeous Gleneagles in person. A gorgeous european turf horse and , lovely son of the great Galileo.
Love and hugs
PS
How many chances does a horse have to take on a Triple Crown winner?
I am sure that is part of the thought process as they wanted to take on Golden Horn. Adian and the Irish Coolmore Boys are not shy about competition.
Dear Judy.Should be quite an exciting classic whoever turns up!!Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Wanted to post one more comment about American Pharoah and it will be the last. Wanted to say that I do want American Pharoah to be retired. But not because he lost a race. And, maybe this is partially the little girl talking who wanted to be a Horse Doctor when she was in Grammer and High School. I let my Grandpa talk me out of it. Wish I had not listened to him. But he thought a girl could just not be a “Horse Doctor” just too funny now. I would have been wonderful with the medical stuff. But would have probably become to emotionally involved. I would be camped out in the barn with a sick one.
I want American Pharoah to be retired because I think he’s done enough. In my opinion. There are lots of hazards in life but as I grow older I know each individual can make a difference and if we can take a hazard away from anything a person or horse God gives us the sense to do it lots of the time. I think American Pharoah can be in a better place. Not Perfect, but maybe better. The Farm could be better. I don’t want him to get a busted knee like the beautiful Terlingua got from racing, or break down like Barbaro or Eight Belles. It can take a toll. There have been so many to leave us in the last few years. It’s all about “Love” for them for me. Just want them to live as long as they can. I stayed at work yesterday to catch i’m your Sugar Daddy’s race on my phone before I got on the road. Not because I wanted to see him race, but just wanted to be with him. And, I was praying as hard as I could that he would make it OK. Prayer does work, I know not always as we want it but sometimes it comes out what we pray for. One last thing, I had a customer to come in this afternoon that I had not seen in a long time. He use to work at a race track in California and he and I use to talk all the time. I told him about seeing an article about California Chrome and that it said he might come back at the first of the year. He immediately said, I hope he doesn’t. He told me that he had seen a picture of him at Taylor and he looked wonderful. He needs to stay where he’s at. That put a huge smile on my face. Hope to get back to the farms again to visit.
I hope AP and CC stay healthy and have long happy lives too. Hoping for the same for TT’s I’myoursugardaddy and I wish it could be so for all of them. Love and Hugs, JB
Beautiful slideshow of The Week In Photos 9/1/15. Really too cute photo of Funny Cide and Smoke, AP’s pony. There’s one (No. 10) of Canterbury Park that shows the scramble breaking out of the gate. Good photo of Flintshire, Private Zone and so many others too. Enjoy. Love and Hugs, JB
PS
Love the video of Smokey doing his reining with Taranova’s daughter, he really is a great reining horse. BB spent a lot of money for him, I think his son Bode is going to show him in reining classes.
Judy,
Enjoyed the sideshow especially the picture of Funny Cide and Smokey. So good to see Funny Cide is out there doing things. Wonder where he is going after Saratoga?
Everything has a reason. We may have to wait a while to understand, because much of what we see is a puzzle with all its pieces strewn about. The whole thing is there but in our present condition we do not comprehend the first thing about fitting the right pieces together. It is going to take some time.
Maybe our dullness is necessary to keep us from making foolish moves. It is better to stand and let life creep back in and our blood to flow normally before we begin again. We still do not know the reason for something but we handle the time better and we recover our senses more quickly.
We are all Seminoles here together. We want no long talk; we wish to have it short and good.

Retirement and Aftercare Programs Evolving, But Still a Work in Progress
By T. D. Thornton TDN Tuesday, September 1, 2015 |
For trainer Rick Violette, Jr., the realization that the racing industry had a significant problem with Thoroughbred aftercare was distilled in a single afternoon a few years ago in Washington, D.C.
In the aftermath of the Barbaro and Eight Belles tragedies, the United States Congress had convened equine welfare hearings, and the final question from the 20-member panel was “What are you doing about retired racehorses?” http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/retirement-and-aftercare-programs-evolving-but-still-a-work-in-progress/
Teresa Genaro @BklynBckstretch on Tuesday Sept. 2 2015
All NYS applications for training licenses beginning in 2016 will be required
to watch a video on aftercare on GC website #RRS
To all the Zsters who post on this blog:
What a blessing that we can be civil in our disagreements and be at peace with one another. On the Texas Red face book page someone posted a statement that many disagreed with, which is okay. But I was appalled by the profanity and truly mean hurtful comments. It is a pity that so many people do not have the intellect to express themselves without filthy language and telling others to quit breathing or just to die. Guess I am getting too old!
I agree about the hate racing horse fans will post! It seems nobody is an adult and feel they can hide behind a computer to post profanity and hatred. I didn’t see the postings but if I had I wouldn’t have acknowledged their craziness!
Sad that our society has become this way :-(
Auntie Judy
No, it’s not you. Really bothers me that there is a trend toward the acceptance of rudeness and crudeness lately. Thank God for Z’s Blog (and all of her fans) where we can discuss all things horses in an amiable way. Love all of you. Hugs, JB

Dear Ann& Max.Loved that video! No one messes with the Fly!He’s the boss.Hugs Sheena.
Max
Mullins has said that gelding had no effect at all on The Fly. He stayed as aggressive and singleminded as ever. Mullins also said that The Fly is still a handful. Mullins has got the scars to prove that.

Dear Max.Kauto wished the ‘Fly’ a happy retirement.I still feel so sad about him.Paul’s team had their first workout today.Roll on the new season. The ‘Fly’ was a little terrier!Sheena

Tizgood
Dear Sheena,
I know how much you do not care for dirt racing, but the firm turf racing has been so poor
in the UK, Adian always opts for a dirt race here. Most of the horses that like the firm turf
like our dirt surface. CC ended up with a foot bruise from your firm turf so it can be as hard or harder than our dirt, but I know how you feel having lived your whole life in such a beautiful country. I would love to see the gorgeous Gleneagles in person. A gorgeous european turf horse and , lovely son of the great Galileo.
Love and hugs
Tizgood
PS
How many chances does a horse have to take on a Triple Crown winner?
I am sure that is part of the thought process as they wanted to take on Golden Horn. Adian and the Irish Coolmore Boys are not shy about competition.

September 2 Cherokee Devotional
Everything has a reason. We may have to wait a while to understand, because much of what we see is a puzzle with all its pieces strewn about. The whole thing is there but in our present condition we do not comprehend the first thing about fitting the right pieces together. It is going to take some time.
Maybe our dullness is necessary to keep us from making foolish moves. It is better to stand and let life creep back in and our blood to flow normally before we begin again. We still do not know the reason for something but we handle the time better and we recover our senses more quickly.
We are all Seminoles here together. We want no long talk; we wish to have it short and good.

Here’s a link to a wonderful article on Steve Willard, Zenny’s exercise rider who is still beloved by so many of us. The article proves that the Mosses not only take care of their horses but those special people who care for them.

In the aftermath of the Barbaro and Eight Belles tragedies, the United States Congress had convened equine welfare hearings, and the final question from the 20-member panel was “What are you doing about retired racehorses?”

♥Auntie Judy aka JAG So. California
I agree about the hate racing horse fans will post! It seems nobody is an adult and feel they can hide behind a computer to post profanity and hatred. I didn’t see the postings but if I had I wouldn’t have acknowledged their craziness!
Sad that our society has become this way :-(

Dear Shirlee:
No, it’s not you. Really bothers me that there is a trend toward the acceptance of rudeness and crudeness lately. Thank God for Z’s Blog (and all of her fans) where we can discuss all things horses in an amiable way. Love all of you. Hugs, JB
