Legendary Irish racehorse Hurricane Fly retires from the sport
The Irish Post August 31, 2015 .By Jamie Casey
LEGENDARY Irish Thoroughbred Hurricane Fly has been retired from racing after 10 glorious seasons in the sport, his trainer Willie Mullins has confirmed.
Twice a winner of the Champion Hurdle (2011 and 2013), the 11-year-old won 24 of his 32 races over hurdles, 22 of which were won at Grade One level, a world record in racing. http://irishpost.co.uk/legendary-irish-racehorse-hurricane-fly-retires-from-the-sport/
Keta. Thanks very much for this additional news. The Fly has international travels on his schedule. He’s going to be a busy horse in retirement. It will make life interesting for him. Lucky are the people who will get to see him.
No TV his weekend. Missed Travers action and no info in the newspaper. I wasn’t holding my breath though. I’d rather AP lose Travers than Breeders Cup Classic. How foolish it would be to retire him after one loss. His frequent flyer miles are enough excuse for a loss as any. Watching the video replay it looked to me like he never quit trying and what more can you ask of a horse that has given you everything? CC looks fantastic and happy. The heat has broken and the nights are actually pleasant. Hope it lasts. Someone left a new dog in the driveway for me. He was obviously someone’s house pet. I’ve never seen a dog with that much energy though. And I wonder which part of China he is digging a hole to. Also I have a BOLO out on a pair of slippers, one pink and black shoe and a hairbrush.

American Pharoah to Parade Sunday September 6
Thank you to the Zayats, Baffert & his tireless crew for sharing this amazing horse
with the loyal fans at Del Mar.
That was a terrific race. I hope Frosted stays healthy and continues to race, I think he has a lot of talent. Sometimes an excellent horse (or person!) runs into somebody great – it happens – and shouldn’t diminish our respect for them (or for ourselves, if we happen to have encountered a genius!)
It’s the process. Winning is great but nobody would win if the rest of us didn’t compete. And losing – maybe there’s really no such thing – except – not trying in the first place.
PS – hasn’t The Pharoah become magnificent as he matures! And his gentle eyes…love:)
Dear Momma Zenyatta
I hope you don’t mind me using your blog to wish my beloved mother, Ramona, a very happy and blessed 94th birthday! I am so lucky to still have her in my life!!! Without her I wouldn’t be the person I am. My mother is a loving, compassionate person. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as the saying goes. Thank you, God, for blessing me with her as my Mother!
You are blessed to have her; my sister and and I were not so lucky. Our Mom passed away just after her 61st birthday. She would have been 95 this year. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Sheena,
All the chicks are gone, Monty is doing a lot of thinking and having some quiet time after
all of those busy days of fishing and healing his poor legs before he takes to the skies and goes to Africa. He is always the last to leave and the first to arrive, what a guy. Godspeed to you dear Monty look forward to your 2016 family and seeing your youngsters from the past.
Love and hugs
Dear Mary Margaret.I expect Blue will stay until Monty leaves. It’s been a beautiful day here, the best in a while.Sad to see the empty nest. They were clay-pigeon shooting I think.Hugs Sheena
Butterstick the Sequel is doing well. He has got to be the cleanest cub ever because every time I have tuned in to the NZ Panda cam, he is getting a bath from his gorgeous Mommy Mei. He is also getting REALLY fat. That rich milk panda mommies are blessed with put the ounces on fast!
Really nice article on Curlin’s boy, Keen Ice. with photo. He was tired after the race per trainer, Dale Romans. He ran a great race and nice ride by JC too. Love and Hugs, JB
Barbara,
Keen Ice has been in the hunt the last few races. He finally ran up to his pedigree. Dale needs to send a thank you card to Frosted and his trainer.
New York Stewards Sock Espinoza With Monster Fine
by Paulick Report Staff | 08.31.2015
As if losing Saturday’s Travers weren’t bad enough, Triple Crown winner American Pharoah’s jockey, Victor Espinoza, has been fined a whopping $15,000 for violating New York State Gaming Commission rules and wearing promotional material on his boots and pants without permission during Saturday’s Travers at Saratoga.
Espinoza was socked with the heavy fine by stewards for wearing the Monster Energy Drink logo on his boots and having ESPINOZA emblazoned on his pants. http://www.paulickreport.com/news/the-biz/new-york-stewards-sock-espinoza-with-monster-fine/
To Judy B. You are such a gift to this blog. Thank you so much for remembering Chrome. How soon he has been erased from all mention during the races this year and it hasn’t been that long ago he was Horse of the Year. I feel sorry for all the horses who work so hard and are so soon forgotten. Bless them all and keep them well and loved. Hope all your animals are doing well. You keep up with so many. Love hearing whatever you have to say. Thanks again. Nancy

Dear Nancy:
Thank you for your sweet words. Bless them all. Love and Hugs, JB
Really? Really? After that fine display, generating viewers, $$$$, viewers. That Friday AP workout alone was signifcant enough.
Please, NYRA, tell me you will donate this $15,000 to a fine cause? Unbelievable!
Really puts a bad taste in your mouth, especially after a lovely racing weekend.
Meh. I’m not too broken up on Victor’s behalf. The rules concerning advertising have been in place for a while now. He should have known to ask. Advertising itself isn’t forbidden. Plenty of other jockeys have logos for everything from NetJets to the PDJF. Besides, he probably came out ahead; I suspect he was paid a good deal more than $15K to sport the Monster logo on his boots. Why he chose to emblazon his name on his pants like that I have no idea; all the other jocks put their names on the back waistband.
LauraJ,
Don’t know why but I just can’t really like Victor. Don’t hate him but just don’t care for him the way I do Gary, Mike and the Dratted Johnny V. I am sure he spends many sleepless nights worrying about if I like him or not!
Tizgood
Agree with you Shirlee, just an attitude

I think it will be fun to see him on Dancing with the Stars though, none of the other guys would do that

Dear Shirlee:
You’re cracking me up. Too funny. Love and Hugs, JB
Queen Z,
You look so serene out in your paddock – your home is beautiful! I think LE sneaks you into their TV ads – wearing your face protector in a group, or a body close up of a powerful horse but not showing the head — I know I’ve seen you. Has anyone else?
I am so impressed by AP – how he tried down the stretch! It was the first time he was forced to dig in hard and he did. He’s lost nothing in my eyes, in fact he proved his toughness. Sound like any other horse we all admire? Gotta love his wonderful spirit and the kindest of eyes. I don’s know enough about breeding but hope he would be a good match for our Queen in the future. For those who know about bloodlines, would he be a good match?
Judy – you are so lucky to still have your mom. My wonderful, beautiful mother passed on January 31 at age 98. Miss her every day.
Dear Max.The short guy says the Fly looks a million dollars and was back in training. He would have liked him to carry on but it’s a wise decision by Mullins and his owners,To leave the stage with your public wanting more…I must say I shed a few tears at the news.Sad but happy for the horse.I cannot see his world record of Grade 1’s being surpassed(not in my lifetime anyway). We’ll miss you on wet winter afternoons Fly just as we missed Kauto Denman, Bucks and so many more.As Istabraq said today “you were an alright hurdler”Sheena
Ista is right. Sounds from Keta’s post as if The Fly is going walk about for awhile. First to the Curragh and then to Italy. Hoping that we will get to hear a lot about him in the future. He could be an ambassador for the sport. His owners surely must understand how special that he is to so many people around the world who love racing and champion horses.
Thank you for the birthday wishes to Sandy Northeast Ohio, Judy Berube,, Terry Crow, Ann N C, SueFLCPRC, Carol in Arkansas and Bluegrass Girl. Auntie Judy, JAG, I’m very honored to share a birthday with a woman as special as your mother. Today was also my grandmother’s birthday and she was pretty special as well. Hope I measure up at least a little.
Happy ‘cappin’ to all in the contest. Some very awesome “betters” in the group. Woo Hoo

I’m very happy that AP came out of the Travers ok. I was shocked at Mr. Zayat’s comment about retiring him and honestly, have not followed that story any further so cannot comment. So glad that Del Mar is having a parade for him so the fans can show they appreciate the champion race horse that he is.
Victor Espinoza’S fine is pretty jaw dropping. I don’t know a jockey’s agent’s role, but is that something he should have advised Victor about? Obviously, somebody didn’t know the rules. What a way to find out.
Zenyatta looks so wonderful in the pictures above, as she always does. Thanks to Alys for her amazing photography and Team Z for always sharing with us.
Dear Tizgood.Yes,Monty is chilling out before his long journey. He should leave any day now.Another wonderful season over. Not only did the Fly retire today but our most famous lady flat jockey Hayley Turner is quitting at the end of the season. She was part of the girls team that won the Shergar cup this year. She said the opportunities were just not there for female jockeys.Love and hugs Sheena
Dear Sheena,
So sorry to hear about Haley she should come to the US, lots of opportunities for her
here especially with Rosie retired. And dear Monty will miss him so, safe journey
beautiful boy. So sad about the Fly, but if he is not able to stay at the top of his game he
should retire, he is to good. And what is going on with SS, will he be back. Just hope Gleneagles gets some good ground or maybe we will see him at the BC, that would be so exciting. I don’t know of any Euros coming this year; he could take on our monster
Wise Dan- your baby monster and our old monster. That would be great. I don’t think Keenland is going to attract anyone from across the pond. Baby panda is doing well and is sqeeky clean, good Mama. Hope the rain has cleared along with the fog.

To all that are having a Birthday I wish the best ever!!
So sorry to watch and see AP coming in second. Really though? I know the Zayat’s wanted to give AP his chance in the Travers, but I do believe with all the travel back and forth, the recent win at the Haskell after being a Triple Crown Winner, I think he ran wonderfully considering all. He is my champ. I do not know how far Whirlaway went to get to his races or whether he ran a race after a Triple Crown before his win at the Travers, and it does not prove any thing than AP is a very elite race horse and has proven himself as one of the greats. He reminds me of Zenyatta in many ways.
Hope you get some rest AP and get ready for the Breeders Cup!
hugs, Sally B

September 1
Our pride can rob us of the help we need-and the other person of the chance to do a good deed.
Why is it so hard to accept help without feeling something very close to anger? Is it because we think we have not done as well as the other person or do we feel too great for self-sufficiency?
When we need help we have not fallen short. If we have done everything we can to help ourselves then we should consider it the other person’s time to give. If we are made to feel awkward for needing help, we can remember the feeling when it comes our time to help out. Pride is an admission of weakness and gratitude is a sign of strength. We can receive graciously and we can give the same way.
We should not despair of once more enjoying the blessings of peace in our new homes.

RIP Au Moon .A sad story of a horse brought back to the racecourse at 9 broke down at Monmouth Park Trainer denied he had fractures. Now he is dead.Media keep quiet as not to offend owner and trainer.Shameful.Is this the way we treat our beloved horses???Sheena.
Dear Kathy.Pinch, punch the first of the month!Oh,my grandparents and parents had pride, would never have dreamt of asking for help.
Monty and his mistress are still on the Dyfi this cool autumnal day very sunny though.Maya and 33(11) plus the youngest chick are still on Manton Bay.Often the youngsters there will leave before mum.Poor Wookie had more oxygen last night I found his mum’s FB.Wonderful video of a fox recovering from a nasty encounter with a car.Judy and Nay are back Mango and der sissy’s are happy.Cha-Cha is having surgery on her front legs today bless her she is sooo tiny.I think Marty forgot it was Monday I did tell him we had a holiday in the UK!Kimberly’s arthritis has been bad lately but Fubu is good.He celebrated his Gotcha day by going to Petco.JJ’s mum was talking about her job at the hospice and how she never gets depressed.Grumpy cat is having an animatronic waxwork made for Madame Tussaud’s think she made £64 million last year!!!She hates the waxwork btw!Ray is losing a lot of furiends lately.I don’t think Zoe is up yet.She supports the gators and the cubs doesn’t she.Lots of tributes to the Fly on Irish Stud FB he’s going to live there after his travels.Back to where he was born.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses to Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.XOXO
