She’s Not Here, or Zenyatta’s “cousin” as jockey Mike Smith describes her, won with a furious rally in the middle of the Del Mar stretch Sept. 6 to take the $200,000 Yellow Ribbon Handicap (gr. II).
Always good to see another graded winner coming from the Vertigineux line.

Our Zenyatta is never far from the spotlight.
Happy Labor Day!
Thanks for this article. Beautiful daughter of Street Cry is out of Z’s half sister, Where’s Bailey. Mikey misses Z so much, I think.
Noticed that the co owner of She’s Not Here is the same farm (St. George) that owns Eblouissante. Wish we could find out how she’s doing and whether she’s in foal to Frankel. Might have to wait until Spring; because if she is, I’m sure there will be an announcement when the baby is born. Love and Hugs, JB
Darley went in as co-breeder with Street Cry. Did not realize that was the same farm that purchased Eboulesante. Thanks for pointing that out Judy.

They say that this is the most excited that Mike has been in victory since he rode with Zenyatta. He calls her Z’s niece. Hope that this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship for them both.
Watching some races today and just heard on HRTV/TVG that Wise Dan has been retired.
Was training well, but Charlie Lopresti noticed something amiss and a tendon tear was discovered.

Happy retirement WD.
Champion horse Wise Dan retired before return
Jonathan Lintner The Courier-Journal September 7, 2015
Originally slated to retirn in Sunday’s Woodbine Mile, two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan has instead been retired from racing.
Trainer Charlie LoPresti told the Canadian track’s press office Monday that “he’d been training lights out, but we noticed some filling in his tendon this morning when we were giving him a bath. The vet suggested we scan it and it turns out he has a tear on the outside edge of his tendon.” http://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/horses/2015/09/07/champion-horse-wise-dan-retired-before-return-in-woodbine-mile/71849004/
Thanks, Keta. You are so good to provide us with information. Now I can cease worrying about Dan getting hurt in that race. His fans at Woodbine will be very disappointed, but they will know that this decision is best for the horse.
Dan is the most interesting horse in the world, and the best turf horse of his generation. I’m glad that LoPresti and Morton Fink are doing right by him. He still has the track and race record at Woodbine. Live long and prosper, Danny.

Dear Max:
I know Dan has your heart and you’ll miss him. I do so much like and respect his connections. They always had Danny’s welfare first and foremost. Love and Hugs, JB
Just saw that about Wise Dan. Sorry to see the great old warrior go but so glad his connections are taking care of him. Was looking forward to seeing him race next weekend. Blessings on the Most Interesting Horse In The World and happy retirement.
shirlee. This opens up that race. Wonder if Lea will go? Casse was mulling it over about Kaigun and Za Approval too.
We’ve still got another potential turf star on the horizon, but at a longer distance. Danish Dynaformer is scheduled to race in the Northern Dancer Stakes next weekend. It’s a mile and a half.
shirleeinindy
Max,
Lea just had a work today on dirt so who knows. He started on turf but has done better on dirt. Like so many of them he is not the same since Dubai. I think since he is 6 they are going to try for a win and you are in race for him to close off his career.
Ann NC
It will be great seeing your Lea racing again, shirlee.
Can’t wait for DD. He is ready!
Waited to see Sticksstatleydude in the Hopeful today, but he was scratched due to a fever. Get better buddy! He must have something, going from maiden to stakes? Hope so!
Hope all had a nice Labor Day.
Max
shirllee. Woodbine Mile is a win and you’re win. Also the Shadwell turf will get him to the Breeders’ Cup. Woodbine has a European style turf course so I don’t know if that suits Lea. Danny liked it.
Max
Ann NC. Attfield says that if DD does well in the Northern Dancer, they will consider the Canadian International for him. He’s still a baby at 3 so that there is no hurry. Thanks for this news on our King of the Chestnuts, Danny Boy. As much as I will miss seeing him race again, I just know that Mr. Fink and Charlie Lopresti are doing what is in the very best interest of The Most Interesting Horse In The World.
Happy, healthy retirement beautiful boy. We’ll miss you and we’ll never forget the thrill of seeing you race. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Max.You must be so sad to hear of Wise Dan’s retirement.I know how much you were looking forward to his return but he will have a wonderful life now no stallion duties for him just the enjoyment of being a horse!I know you will miss him just as I have missed my favourites but we always have our precious memories.Sheena.
Two stars are gone in a week. The Fly and Danny. Only consolation is that they are both well, went out on top and will have good homes. Dan’s got both his brothers and Norman for company. His two sisters are there too.
Dear Max.Heard a portrait of Kauto made £1250 for the Somerset and Dorset air ambulance at Paul’s open day.Yes,we’ve lost magnificent horses.I do pray Dan and the ‘Fly’ have long, safe golden years unlike our beloved Kauto.I have been thinking of him a lot recently with the jumps season ever nearer.I heard Dan may go and live with his brother. Sheena.

Doubt that we’ll ever get over what happened to Kauto. I still feel pretty bad about that. He deserved a much longer life in retirement. He was an incredible athlete with the heart of a lion. As I have said before, his last King George was one of the great thrilling race victories of all time. I was cheering wildly when he won on that Boxing Day.
Max,
You never know. Danny might be like Lava Man and be bored with retirement. Someday we might see him escorting a champion. If not, I hope they will allow visitors at the farm.
Sad to hear Wise Dan retired 7 to 8 year old body can’t withstand his aggressive racing style anymore. Really hope they don’t put him in a pasture, think he is going to be mad, he really enjoys work and would really enjoy a second career-not sure as a poney. He needs something he can be a star at- he is truely a star. Sad he was over looked at the Eclipse awards last year.
Good luck Danny-it was the best decision-I bet he is mad !!!

Great picture – thanks JB! Just heard about Wise Dan. He will be greatly missed, but as everyone has said, thank goodness his connections are doing what is best for him and not chancing a racing injury or worse. Wonder if he will make an “appearance” at Keeneland?
Wise decision for Wise Dan. I was looking forward to his return but, glad his connections made the right decision for the horse’s welfare. Wise Dan you will always be a shining star in my eyes.
I’m sad to see Wise Dan retired, but am very happy that his owner & trainer are doing what is best for him. We will miss you, Danny!
Thank you Mr. Fink & Mr. Lo Presti for taking such wonderful care of Dan. You set such a wonderful example of the right way to treat all horses. May God bless you for always putting the horses first.
As others have already said, I will miss you, Wise Dan, tremendously. I hope you have a long and happy life with those who love you so much. Many thanks to The Finks, Mr. Lopresti and all WD’s connections for sharing him with us and letting him do what he truly loves. We have certainly enjoyed every minute of his racing. After all, it isn’t every day that we get to see The Most Interesting Horse in the World — what a gift you are, Danny!
Thanks for the memories, you big gorgeous Chestnut!
Hugs and Love
Sorry to hear Wise Dan is not going to race again. One of my favorite all time horses.
Just so happy he is leaving on top of his game with a minor injury so he can retire and enjoy himself. Thanks for all the great memories Dan. After a rest I too, would love to see him as a lead pony helping the young horses as they come on the track. Lava Man is certainly enjoying himself in his second career. I wondered why they didn’t make Game on Dude a pony, he has such a great personality! I thought he retired sound.
Game On Dude has a very laid back personality. His does not seem to be a horse that needs a lot of activity. He is very happy in his current situation at Old Friends. He enjoys being turned our with his buddy Yankee Fourtune, getting carrots and the occasional Jolly Rancher from fans. If he were a pony at a track, he couldn’t have a pal. He loves having company; he and Yankee Fourtune graze standing side by side with just inches between their noses. They are quite attached.
Thank you for this wonderful update on Game On Dude. It’s so true, horses really do form very strong attachments to one another. Remember how protective Tasty Temptation was of Zenyatta.
So glad Dude is happy at Old Friends with his best bud. Love and Hugs, JB
lauraj_cincinnati
He really is a doll. When he first arrived at OF, I got to go in his stall. I gave him a nice scratch.
Jolly Ranchers are his favorite treat, except that he hates the green apple flavor.
Max
LauraJ. These are wonderful comments. Keep them coming. Very interesting.
Ann NC
Dude, I’m with ya man. Always trading those greens, yuck!
Glad he is a happy camper.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Laura J:
Wow, what a great memory for you to have visited The Dude in his stall. Too cute his favorite treats are Jolly Ranchers. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Another great mare that didn’t have any luck in the breeding shed was Genuine Risk, she had 2 foals neither of which followed in her hoof steps. And breeders had difficulty in getting her in foal.
If it were easy to get great foals by breeding great mare to great stallions we would many great horses but so much goes into it besides genetics. Some traits are difficult to pass on, like heart, determination, soundness, how they respond to training etc. So many breeders read the crosses and do their best to achieve great foals but a little bit of luck also comes into play.
Queen Z has a unique talent, personality, size and mind. Great ones are difficult to reproduce but with Queen Z I’m sure she will have her share of winners from her foals!
It is very hard for a champion mare to reproduce herself or reproduce a stallion that can carry on her line, that is for sure. Some mares are lucky some are not so lucky, one progeny will do it. Very glad for RA as she has no more chances.
Quarterhoss,
I have at times wondered about Genuine Risk and drugs. In those days there was not the testing they do now. Don’t know but think perhaps that could have contributed to her inability to get in foal. Just thinking out loud.
The media were out in full force on the Piste des Aigles at Chantilly to watch Treve do her final piece of work before the Prix Vermeille on sunday.Criquette Head-Maarek says her mare is getting “stronger”She continues her preparation for an historic 3rd Arc.Arabian Queen the shock Juddmonte International winner has been submitted for the race by-passing the Irish Champion Stakes.Girls rule!!!!Sheena
Hi!Sheena, Excitement is building for the Arc. That would be a terrific win for Treve, the third Arc. Gotta root for her. I sure do like Arabian Queen too. I hate when my favorites are in the same race. I hope it will be telecast here in the US, I’m pretty sure it will be. Girl Power!!! All need to come home safely. I peek at the Dyfi, knowing I’m only going to see an empty nest but, I do it anyway. Continually, think of the fab five on their journey. Take good care. Mary Margaret
Have a happy retirement Wise Dan! He’ll be with his brother and won’t they have a lot to talk about. Bravo to Mr. Fink and Mr. Lopresti for always putting Dan’s welfare above everything else. Hard to believe Saratoga and Del Mar have wrapped up. The year is flying by. AP made such a grand appearance at Del Mar. He looks very healthy and looks like he has grown.
I just got back from a few days away. Trying to catch up on the blog. It is really hard to read the messages with all the letters used instead of names. I know some of them, but the rest mean nothing. Please, spell out the horse’s names? Thanks!
Dear Mary Margaret. It really is hard to see an empty nest at the Dyfi.Hope all our osprey family are doing well.30(05) from Rutland (where Glesni was born)is crossing the Western Sahara at the moment and should be home soon. She’s had a fantastic flight so far.Yes,it’s difficult when we have more than one favourite running but I would love to see Treve win a 3rd Arc.She looks really well.Love and hugs Sheena.
Have you seen how big Lil’ Butter Tub has gotten in the last few days? He’s big enough that you can see him on the Cam now. There are adorable pictures of him and Mei from last night up on the NZ FB page (visitor’s posts). They were literally sleeping face to face and had such big smiles on their faces!
Article in today’s TDN on RA, her babies and pedigree and how unpredictable breeding really is.
I am not happy with the writer’s last paragraph on our Queen, where he does not include our beloved COZ. Way, way to soon to count COZ out. This time next year hoping COZ will prove him wrong. Cozzie, you’re our First Prince and I believe in you with all my heart. Will always love you no matter what. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Judy,
I’m with you all the way on this. So many have written Coz out BUT no matter what he’s the first prince an he is loved by many. He doesn’t have to win our hearts.

Dear Deb E.I have just been watching buttertub having his bath!He is growing SO fast.Lovely video of the keepers examining him.All is well.Hugs Sheena. http://www.facebook.com/nationalzoo
His white baby fur has really filled in within the last couple of days, and he has quite the cowlick on top of his tiny head! As for his appetite, he is a bottomless pit. Soon he will have achieved the milestone of becoming as wide as he is long! One thing Butter Tub doesn’t like and grumbles about is when Mei puts him on the floor so she can eat. I have never heard a panda cub GROWL like this little guy! It’s a low rumbling growl that lets Mama know he’s rapidly running out of patience with the floor and wants back up in her arms. Poor Mei has literally fallen asleep sitting up; he’s a demanding boy!
Joseph O’Brien has announced he will retire from flat racing at the end of the season. He will start training NH horses for JP Mcmanus at Piltown County Kilkenny where his father Aidan began his legendary career. There have been rumours since the summer but he will ride Gleneagles this weekend.Sheena.

Marshall (NC Broad)
As others have already said, I will miss you, Wise Dan, tremendously. I hope you have a long and happy life with those who love you so much. Many thanks to The Finks, Mr. Lopresti and all WD’s connections for sharing him with us and letting him do what he truly loves. We have certainly enjoyed every minute of his racing. After all, it isn’t every day that we get to see The Most Interesting Horse in the World — what a gift you are, Danny!
Thanks for the memories, you big gorgeous Chestnut!

Dear Laura J:
Thank you for this wonderful update on Game On Dude. It’s so true, horses really do form very strong attachments to one another. Remember how protective Tasty Temptation was of Zenyatta.
So glad Dude is happy at Old Friends with his best bud. Love and Hugs, JB

Dude, I’m with ya man. Always trading those greens, yuck!
Glad he is a happy camper.

Dear Laura J:
Wow, what a great memory for you to have visited The Dude in his stall. Too cute his favorite treats are Jolly Ranchers. Thanks for sharing this with us.
He must be a real love bug. Love and Hugs, JB

Tizgood
It is very hard for a champion mare to reproduce herself or reproduce a stallion that can carry on her line, that is for sure. Some mares are lucky some are not so lucky, one progeny will do it. Very glad for RA as she has no more chances.
shirleeinindy

Godspeed Treve; safe and sound. Love and Hugs, JB

Thanks!

Wishing a happy retirement to Wise Dan. He deserves it.

Dear Z Fans:

Hugs,

Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Geez!!! Could he possibly not know about Coz??

Dear maryp and Sandy:
Seems doubtful that he wouldn’t know about Z’s First Born Prince. Love our COZ. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Sheena:
