Dear Sheena,
It is too bad Golden Horn would not come to the US for the BC Turf, I think the turns
at Keenland might be tight, but would like to see a match with him and Wise Dan. That
would be a very nice match !!!
As Far as AP, the fields he has been running against are so small it is very hard to
really say he is that talented in my opinion and he has not run against some of the
very talented 3 year old yet either.
Love and hugs
carol,
About the only good one out there he hasn’t met this year is Texas Red. There were 18 of them in the Derby and I think the Preakness field was around 10. Frosted, Keen Ice and Upstart seem to be some of the better 3 year olds and AF has demolished all 3 of them.
carol in arkansas
I think i read that AP has beaten Texas Red….will check….would have been as 2yr old
Golden Horn is not a miler like the Dan. He’s a classic distance runner. He’s got a perfect record on turf, and there is no reason to travel to the U.S. to find races. There’s plenty of the best competition in the world in the UK and Europe.
AP has done every right including running in races with large fields of competitors. He’s got absolutely nothing left to prove. Last time that I looked, you seldom ever see a Triple Crown winner. Only 12 of them so far. Ziconic, keep working it.
TC are very rare for sure, and the best pf them go on to race after their 3 year old season. Secretariat did not because of all the financial issues Penny had with her father’s property. AP is very talented, but until he meets the older Boys we shall see, although I am not sure their are many very talented older males that can give
him a big challenge. Ziconic may be champion 2 year old male- I hope !!!
Tizgood
PS: Golden Horn would be a great entrant for the BC turf, WD does run longer than a mile.
Max
Dan’s peeps have already said that he’s racing at a mile in the Breeders Cup. He may go to Woodbine in September for the Woodbine Mile, which incidently is a mile race. Dan holds the race and track record in that one. Why tamper with perfection? Same for Golden Horn. Same for AP. The horses are perfect as they are. AP is a Vogue model.

Dear Tizgood.Golden Horn will be running on Champions day at Ascot I think. We haven’t heard about the Arc yet.I would far rather he stay in Europe and hopefully end his career on a win.AP is a great champion he did win the TC after all.He is a fabulous horse but as I am sure you know I never enjoy comparing horses.AP is a dirt horse and GH a turf one. Both totally different but champions in their own right.Weather miserable on the Dyfi tonight Africa must be calling!!Love and Hugs.
Very few horses can run well on both dirt and turf. The only one that I can recall recently who could set records on both is Secretariat. His last race at Woodbine on turf was spectacular. Peeps talk about that one to this day. Then there’s the three races in the Triple Crown. He still has those records.
Max,
Not to take anything away from AF and the other TC horses. But–God made Secretariat and then said “I have created the perfect horse. There will not be another like him.”
Mary Margaret in Georgia
I am in total agreement. “The Horse that God Built” God broke the mold when he created Secretariat.
Dear Sheena,
You are so right, they are two very different horses, the better match would be AP on the turf with GH. GH owners are very focused on their breeding and racing. They know what
they want of their horses. GH is an awesome horse. I don’t think he would like the dirt
myself, he is a middle distance turf horse with stamina and a great kick. Wish he was going to run as a 4 year old. He and AP are like apples and oranges.

Dear Sheena,
I don’t think GH will be coming to the US we don’t have the
right turf courses for him and his owners have his races all planned,

I agree, AP has done everything right and asked of him. There are only a few Triple Crown winners out of so many years of attempts at the Triple Crown. Everybody, I’m just waiting to see what Noble Bird does Saturday. Saw him win the Stephen Foster under the lights at Churchhill. Wonderful win and was so happy for Norm and Mark Casse. This is a very nice colt. They seem to be saying he might be headed to the Breeders Cup. Love American Pharoah but I just have a good feeling about this colt. He seems to be training lights out. I might just have to make two bets come Breeders Cup time. Saturday will tell a little more.
When you are a child of the land you come to appreciate the moments of pleasure when the early morning sun gilds the tree trunks and throws shadows across the garden. And when evening comes with its cool shadows and nocturnal sounds you revel in your native ways.
The woods at night ring with golden bells all blending in a joyous sound that is the locust chorus. And suddenly it all stops and for a brief moment there is total silence and then the high plaintive mewl of an owl. It is an evening concert and you are alone with it-except for those who lived on these wooded ridges and loved it too. The conductor is the hour that leads it all in a song of the heart.
Dear Kathy. It was bliss to hear the dawn chorus with Katie in the early mornings and watch the sun rise.Sadly, I don’t get up so early anymore.I am becoming more of a night owl.Blue 24 has trying to bring material to the nest today. One has to feel for her she is so persistant.Merin and Bobby have been scaring her off.Glesni is on the perch now eating.Wow a sensational morning in the 4th test at Trent Bridge Aussies all out for 60runs!!!Stuart Broad took 5 wickets from 18 balls. If England win this test match we’ll have regained the ashes!I haven’t had much time to visit the furbabies today I voted for Zoe and saw Hawley as a puppy did you see those golden paws.I hear Walter Palmer is spending thousands on security guards now and whatever the outcome of the trial Theo Bronkhurst is finished as a big game hunter.
The ratties have had more licenses and were enjoying their corm last night.I love their edukashunal facts!Hope you have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
I’m running late. Voting for Zoe multiple times is taking up a huge amount of time. That other dog’s supporters are very tenacious! Have a beautiful day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
Personal information. My thyroid is quite wonky. One side is enlarged like a new potato and the other side is shriveled like a pea and the middle has a growth. My throat sweats like I’m going through the change of life AGAIN! More interesting though is the fact that yesterday my brothers friend called me to drop by because he had something gorgeous in his front yard. He did. He had a two week old red and white filly with a curly mane, long long legs and the sweetest face. Once her Mom came up to me the baby followed. Heaven. Is there any better smell that the wonderful scent of a horse? I was happy all day long!
Dear Vicki,
Hope the docs can get your thyroid straightened out for you. Sorry that you are having problems — I have been on levothyroxine for a number of years now. So glad that your brother had just the perfect thing to make you feel better! The filly sounds gorgeous, and I agree with you and Ann about smelling horses!
Take care! Thoughts and prayers for your well-being.
Hugs and Love
Someone else on the Blog is following Black N Beauty like myself. I am so sorry but I can’t remember who it is…but if you are out there I just want to give a shout out that “our” horse has moved from the New Mexico circuit to Del Mar! This seven year old warrior won his last race at Sunray Park on July 19 by over 9 lengths. He has a record of 41 starts: 8 first place, 11 second place, 4 third place finishes and earnings of $318,187. He went through the Keeneland auction ring as a yearling and brought down the hammer sold for $2,500. I hope they plan to race him at Del Mar, if so I’ll do my best to be there on race day.
Really enjoy this web site and the postings. This is my first entry. I am a horse racing history buff and have a love of all animals. Everyone is so kind. I am posting today because less than an hour ago I had to make the decision to but down ,Abby my TWH mare. I have had her since she was 3 and she was about 18 . I have been recovering from knee replacement this past month and my husband had unexpected surgery Tuesday. She was healthy last week. On Tuesday we found she had chocked but I had to get my husband to the hospital for OR. A close horse freind stayed with her all afternoon until my vet came. Today I found she was eating or drinking and was definitely foundering. I haven’t ridden her in a long time, she truley was just a pet. All I have left is my 26 year old retired standardbred racehorse. I hope he will be OK without her. I have been told he has been a lone horse years ago. It is horrible to lose these beautiful animals. I trust God will get me through this. I ask everyone give someone you love an extra hug and kiss today in honor of Abby
Blessings
Pam from Florida
I am sorry about your mare, Abby, may she RIP.
Hope your husband is feeling better, too. Better days ahead for you!
Passing out many kisses and hugs today, in honor of Abby.
Dear Pam,
Hugs, kisses, prayers and healing thoughts are being sent to you. So sorry about the loss of your dear Abby. RIP sweet girl.
Wishing speedy recoveries to both you and your husband. Hoping for continued health and happiness for your standardbred, too.
Hugs and Love
Dear Pam, So sorry you lost Abby. I lost my TWH mare, Fantasy many years ago, when I lived in Florida. She produced two fillies but, they never compared to their mama. We were kindred spirits. I cherish every day of the nineteen years I had my sweet girl. She could do no wrong. I constantly tell myself she is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge, with the rest of my pets that have left this world too early. A little piece of heart left with each one of them. I know they are now romping around in Heaven in perfect health and peace. I pray you and your husband have speed recovery. Take good care, Mary Margaret.
Have missed all of you and your posts. Lola and I are doing fine now that the AC is back. Lots of catching up to do. We had a thunder and lightening storm here in Warwick and parts of Cranston and the power went out at 5:00 AM Tuesday and didn’t get it back until 1:00 PM yesterday. Our cable TV and Internet just came back around 2:30 today.
Was so worried about the horses, especially at the farm where Charlie is because they’re out all night in the good weather. Had no phone service for a day and finally got through to Angela. She said they were not in the path of the storm, so no harm there. Hudson is fine too, no trees down there either.
Everywhere in Warwick there were trees blocking main roads and 121,000 homes and businesses without power. Mostly everything is restored now. The wind gusts were as high as 75 MPH with lightening and torrential downpours. Hope all of you are well. Love and Hugs, JB
Echo what Ann said. Glad that you and the horses are okay. Hope that Frank is fine. Never been in a rain storm with those kind of winds. Have faced snow blasts. Rain seems worse.
Thank you both for your caring words. I can’t remember a thunder storm as severe as this one was. It was hurricane force winds. Huge trees were uprooted landing across main traffic routes. Houses and cars were damaged by fallen trees. Took down power lines all over Warwick, cable and internet connections and phone towers.
Frank and all the horses at the farm were not in the path of the storm, thank God. Angela said they just got rain and some thunder and lighting, but no severe wind gusts. Hudson too, is fine. Saw her today. There are huge, old trees all around the barn where she is, but none fell. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
Judy,
So glad to hear that you, Lola Mae, the horses and Frank are okay. Those kind of storms are very scary. Take care.
Dear Judy.Good to see you back safe and sound.Sounded very unpleasant for you and Lola Mae.Hope the storm did’nt frighten her too much.Happy everything is back to normal now.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank and all the Sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Thank you. No, Lola’s very unperturbed by the thunder. She does not tolerate the heat well though, like me. All’s well that ends well; we have AC. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank and all the Sweeties
@ Sheena–Thanks for your blessings on those headed for slaughter–I think of them every day, as, without a string of miracles, and some VERY special people, my precious Barnaby would have been one of them! He was literally snatched from the jaws of death, waiting at the feedlot to be shipped. I’m constantly aware of the walking miracle that he is, and am grateful every minute of each day that he is here. I believe he knows that he was saved and is grateful for his happy life as well.
He seems to have especially appreciated all that was done for him when he had
the hives and understood all that was being done to make him feel better. Don’t think I have yet mentioned that,a week after that incident, the man cutting down the high grass in our pasture uncovered a hornets nest on one of the fenceposts right near Barnaby’s path from his shelter to the waterer! Boss Mare Sue is quite certain that it was the hornets that stung him and caused the allergic reaction. I think she is probably correct and feel so sorry that he had to suffer not just the reaction and illness that followed, but, also, the pain of the hornet stings!!
Don’t know if I have mentioned before that we are teaching him to jump!! Just starting out with trotting over poles on the ground, and some really low obstacles. He is loving it,so far, as it is a new thing to do and makes him quite eager and focused. Will never take him over anything big,but it would be fun to hop over some little two foot jumps. He has already jumped some of the small things we have tried him on.
I keep teiing him that everyone in the world thinks that THEIR horse is the best one in the whole world–but–that HE is the one (pardon me Zenny) who really IS. One thing he knows for sure is that he is LOVED!!! I give him all of everyone’s messages too,and he seems to love those. He truly is a happy boy!
Aren’t these wonderful photos of Zenny?? The head shot at the bottom is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen!! She looks SO healthy and happy. Wish they’d make that shot available through the z. store. I just love how she loves her bath–if someone came at Barnaby with a spray like that,he would try to run for the hills!! He is afraid of just a hose running and hates the sound that the sprinkler system makes when it comes on. He is really funny about water. When I sponge his legs with it and it is running down his leg, he lifts it up as if to say “eeeewwww–what IS that?”
So glad to hear about Zi’s working out–I, too, am hoping he will be Champion 2 Yr. old. Fingers crossed!!
Sweet Zenny, and you gorgeous boys, may you feel the love and kisses blown to you all on the wind. Sweet dreams tonight.
Dear Sue Noel.It breaks my heart to hear how many of our 4 legged friends are discarded like rubbish.Barnaby was, indeed, one of the lucky ones.I know how much you adore him and he loves you too! You’re his mum after all and you know your boy is the best in the world.I love hearing about him and his happy life with you and Traveller too.Give him a big “cwtch”(hug) from Wales.Love SheenaX
Just a little tidbit of info. A 3 yo filly out of Street Cry, “Shes Not Here” won the 7th race at Del Mar today. Made a big sweeping run on the outside from dead last and won by almost 3. She was ridden by Mike Smith. Turns out her dam is a half sis to our Zenny. Gave me goose bumps. Street Cry, Zenny, Mike Smith. It is a small world.
Just checked out She’s Not Here’s pedigree. She is a daughter of Where’s Bailey, who is indeed a half sister to Z. Same Mom, lovely Vertigineux. Love and Hugs, JB
Donna Alsabrook
I saw the race, actually bet on her to win. She’s not big but was full of run. Amazing how fast she closed and won. Like I said, she gave me goose bumps how fast she closed and finished, especially having to circle the field.
Mike had not been on this filly before and did not know she was our Zenny’s niece until just before he got on her. The trainer told him “You are a Hall of Fame jockey, I will not tell you how to ride her, just want you to know that she is Zenny’s niece. They talked to him after the race and he said he really enjoyed riding her. She was really easy to relax and just went when he told her to. He had a big smile on his face in the winners circle.
You guys are just the best there is. Absolutely adored the vid of little Zi being taught by Mom how to run. Precious. Wow, we have another possible successful cross of Street Cry’s and Zenny’s genes. Perfect . Mikey was so so excited. His reaction just as familiar with Shes Not Here. Well, yes she is! Plz share info on her owner and trainer. Ty.

August 6 Cherokee Devotional
There is no other place for us.

Dear Sheena,
I’m running late.

Dear Vicki:
Sorry your going through health problems. Hope it’s resolved soon and you feel better.
The little filly sounds lovely. Love and Hugs, JB

Smelling horses, my favorite thing!

Dear Vicki,
Hope the docs can get your thyroid straightened out for you. Sorry that you are having problems — I have been on levothyroxine for a number of years now. So glad that your brother had just the perfect thing to make you feel better! The filly sounds gorgeous, and I agree with you and Ann about smelling horses!
Take care! Thoughts and prayers for your well-being.

Ann,
Thanks for posting the photo of our handsome boy.
Pam from Florida
Blessings

Wishing speedy recoveries to both you and your husband. Hoping for continued health and happiness for your standardbred, too.

Dear Z Fans:
Ann NC
Wow, what a storm. Glad everyone is OK.
Max
Echo what Ann said. Glad that you and the horses are okay. Hope that Frank is fine. Never been in a rain storm with those kind of winds. Have faced snow blasts. Rain seems worse.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Ann and Max:

Sue Noel in Sun Valley,ID
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sue Noel:
Oh, it’s just heartbreaking the horses that are not as lucky as your sweet Barnaby. Even the Wild Ones are fighting for their lives.
Poor baby boy, makes perfect sense that Barnaby had an allergic reaction to the hornet stings. Glad he’s back to his old sweet self. Love and Hugs, JB

Beautiful pics of our Zenny. WOW.

I saw the race, actually bet on her to win. She’s not big but was full of run. Amazing how fast she closed and won. Like I said, she gave me goose bumps how fast she closed and finished, especially having to circle the field.
Donna Alsabrook

Ty.
