Meydan: Prayer for Relief works for de Kock
PRAYER FOR RELIEF had a breeze on the Meydan dirt track Wednesday as he prepares for the Godolphin Mile on Saturday night.
His situation is unusual. Trained by Dale Romans in the U.S., Zayat Stables sent Prayer for Relief to Dubai to stable with de Kock and run in the Godolphin Mile. De Kock said he has tried to keep Prayer for Relief on the same sort of schedule to which he’d adhere had he not switched barns for this race.
“He’s had some foot issues since he came over, but I think we have them sorted out,” de Kock said. “He’s a lovely horse. I was very pleased with him today.” http://live.drf.com/nuggets/11929

Meydan: Wednesday training observations
–WORLD CUP–
EPIPHANEIA wasn’t asked to do a lot on dirt, meaning rushing to judgment would be rash, but he did not gallop over the surface like a horse that is going to love dirt in his first try over it Saturday night.
HOKKO TARUMAE visited the gate, looked all right, not especially striking, and probably is outclassed in any case.
LEA galloped at a moderate tempo and looked better to me the first time he went past than the second. If he has lost any weight travelling it’s sure not apparent, because he’s in fine flesh with a radiant coat. Considering the light workload, he did get a bit hot today on a fairly cool morning.
SIDE GLANCE has been galloping on the training track, and is sporting bubble screen blinkers, something I don’t remember seeing in his past trips to Arlington. He went a faster pace today than yesterday but dirt remains a major question mark. http://live.drf.com/nuggets/11930

Kathy, Thank you for posting this today. So true. After all that Little Turtle endured and witnessed, he still kept his noble and wise heart. Another one I try to remember if my mind ‘magnifies’ events past or upcoming is, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” (Matthew 2:27) Wisdom is wonderful in the middle of the night… especially if I remember these words. I’ll now store Little Turtle’s words to my thoughts.

First the sad news. For those who remember the story of Lisa’s Booby Trap, Tim Snyder, her owner and trainer, died at the age of 59 two days ago. He was buried today next to his wife Lisa, who the horse was named after. The happy news is that Lisa’s Booby Trap is in foal. She was bred last year but it did not take. Tim tried his best to hold on to find out whether Lisa was in foal but somehow I think he knows. For those who know the story, perhaps its Lisa’s gift of remembrance to him. RIP Tim, Also, RIP Smart Strike. I hope that the cure for laminitis will happen in my lifetime. We lost too many wonderful horses to the dreaded disease, most notably the first horse I fell in love with – Big Red.
Ziconic – as always, you never take a bad picture. You remind me so much of Big Red. I see a lot of wisdom (“old soul”) in you and a horse who is comfortable within himself and his surroundings. Thank you Team Mayberry for taking the pictures and Team Z for sharing them with us.
Such a sad loss. Mr. Snyder seemed a genuinely nice man.
Thank you for the news on Lisa. I know she has not raced since June 2013 and I checked on Pedigree Query to see if any progeny was listed. There was nothing. Will be waiting for news of the birth of her foal.

I found this 2008 photo of Double Cuteness I just had to share with you. The mom is a Thoroughbred named Royal Fairy Tale (Fergie) and she gave birth to twin colts. Very rare and happy surprise. Love and Hugs, JB
Judy,
What a miracle of cuteness! Just was checking Zenny’s site before getting stuff done before bedtime. Started from the bottom of the page and was scrolling up. This is one of the most joyous sites. So happy for this momma and her babes and for her humans. Such an amazing gift! Thanks, Judy, will be smiling in my sleep. with love, Elizabeth PS Congratulations to her humans too.
They are sooo adorable. They were born some years ago. I checked and their names are Royal Scandal (the Bay) and Royal Encore (the Chestnut). Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Judy B.,
Thanks for this adorable picture! Mama and babies are simply TOO cute — looks like a chestnut and a bay? What a happy surprise to Royal Fairy Tale’s connections!
Hugs and Love
Twins in a horse are never a “happy surprise.” The surprise is that they and their dam all survived and are healthy. Horses are not built to carry two fetuses, and the usual result is loss of the pregnancy. If it goes to term, the birth is life threatening for the mare. A twin foal born alive is likey to be very small and in need of considerable veterinary support. These people were very, very lucky.
Twin conceptions are common in Thoroughbreds. Normal practice is to do an ultrasound early in the pregnancy. If twins are detected, then one of the embryonic vesicles is pinched, which kills the embryo and allows the pregnancy to continue.
What you say is so very true, but apparently in this case no ultrasound was done and the people at Marabet Farm were “happily surprised” when the twins were born. Thank God, they and their Mom survived. I posted a photo of them all grown up on Page 7. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Ann,
Exactly! Little miracles are always happy surprises. Thankfully, Mama and foals survived and thrived which, of course, was a huge miracle!

Dear Z Fans:

Dear Elizabeth:
They are sooo adorable. They were born some years ago. I checked and their names are Royal Scandal (the Bay) and Royal Encore (the Chestnut). Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Judy B.,
Thanks for this adorable picture! Mama and babies are simply TOO cute — looks like a chestnut and a bay? What a happy surprise to Royal Fairy Tale’s connections!

They are adorable, though.

Dear Laura J:
What you say is so very true, but apparently in this case no ultrasound was done and the people at Marabet Farm were “happily surprised” when the twins were born. Thank God, they and their Mom survived. I posted a photo of them all grown up on Page 7. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Ann,
Exactly! Little miracles are always happy surprises. Thankfully, Mama and foals survived and thrived which, of course, was a huge miracle!
