Zenyatta foal Cozmic One could make debut in April
By Steve Andersen Daily Racing Form 3/22/2015
ARCADIA, Calif. – Cozmic One, the first foal out of the 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, could make his career debut in April, trainer John Shirreffs said Sunday
Note: Can not get the link to work-but it was published.
At the close of day when owls call to each other in the woods, we say, “There’s Grandfather.” Not grandfather owl but Grandfather Sequichie. He could mimic an owl so well that another owl would answer.
As children fishing with him on the creek bank at night, we worried that there might be an owl revolt when so many came close to our campfire and called to this talented Indian. What would they do when they found out they had been fooled?
His attention was diverted to a fish on the line and he forgot to keep calling and the owls at last drifted away. It was comforting to feel the still warm dust on the road home and know we had escaped another owl attack.
I think to come and visit you tomorrow, and to talk over many things that I have seen in my journey.

Max,
Hope so. You know my favs are Gary and Mike. And even if I hate to admit it, the dratted Johnny V. Just wish safe trips to all the horses especially our Americans. I don’t think Bill Mott or Claiborne would have sent Lea if they didn’t think he had some chance. I bought 2 big bottles of Tums to get ready for the race.
Max
Good idea about the Tums. I carry them around at race time. They have smaller bottles for travel.

Dear Shirlee and Max:
We better better get stocked up; we’ll be popping Tums like crazy when COZ goes. Love and Hugs, JB

So very true on the Tums (although I prefer spearmint Rolaids). Our dog show is April 3rd(Friday) and I will find it very hard to concentrate on dog show if Mr. Coz is running. Oh dear. So excited!!!!
Dear Kathy. So many reminders of my auntie today, she used to love hearing the owls in the woods near her home and the Zoeism today was something she had written in her autograph book many, many years ago. We’ve just had news of a plane crash in the French Alps a low budget German airbus flying from Barcelona. No survivors 150 killed.I know there is some bad weather on the continent may delay our ospreys. The partner of Glesni’s grandad slowed down a lot yesterday but Glesni’s mum is back in Rutland!!Poor Mango and Abby had upset tummies yesterday mum had a busy day caring and bathing them. The little ratties were enjoying their peas and corm! I think miss Kitty’s mum should get her money soon so Kitty can get her new food she’s lost 5lbs since last summer. It’s quite cold here today and showery but promises higher temps next week for Easter.Beautiful photo of Joey for Monday.Hope you have a good day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
I love hearing owls and calling to them. You feel such a sense of accomplishment when they call back. Zoe is certainly a rare diamond. Love that little dog. I’m glad you were reminded of your aunt. Yes, I heard of the crash too. So sad for their poor relatives. May those who lost their lives RIP. The bad weather is a worry for the ospreys’ travel. I hope they all make it safely. Hope Mango and Abby feel better today. Enjoying the ratties. They’re all so cute. I hope Miss Kitty shows signs of improvement soon. Have you seen the new brother on My Pom Pals? Not sure what breed he is. He’ll be a big boy! We will be in the 90s again in the next couple of days. Our drought continues. Yes, I saw Joey’s photo. He was so handsome. You have a good day too. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.
Power up all US horses and win. Then come home. We need Chromie, Lea and Candy Boy safely back where they belong. Ron the Greek, miss him on the track too.

Dear Max:
Yes, it is a long trip for the horses. Safe and sound all.

Western Kansas had a little snow this afternoon and we in central Kansas have a chance tomorrow evening. Hope the weatherman is wrong.
BGG, Thanks so much for this link. It’s so exciting! Nail-biting, but thrilling. The Harris Ranch people a wonderful group. Go California Chrome! Pray God’s blessings for you, BGG, and for CC and for everyone in Zenyatta’s family. with love, Elizabeth
Dear Peggy.I hope African Story realizes he has such a devoted fan!Of course CC will forgive you unlike humans horses do not hold grudges!I’ll be looking out for some of our UK runners such as the Grey Gatsby and Brown Panther.Although Godolphin is global we like to think the horses in Newmarket are from the UK.Hunter’s light injured a tendon they will announce plans for his future at a later date.Looking forward to Saturday!Love and hugs Sheena.
Dear Sheena, I think I fell in love with African Story from the moment I saw him, and that’s been a while back now. Would pull for him in any race wherever he was or whoever he was running against. Guess I just attach him to GB because that’s where he was bred. I know he and Sky Hunter are owned by Darley. And Sky Hunter has Roberto in his pedigree. I love that. Will be pulling for him also in his race. I am a huge fan of Darley and their horses. My visits at Lane’s End and Darley have been one of the huge highlights of my life. Can you tell I am excited about Saturday. I am so hoping Hunter’s Light will be OK.. Godspeed to all horses and Jockeys running.
Peggy. Good luck to your favorites. I see what you mean. There is one horse for whom I would also support in any race before all others no matter who was running: Zenyatta.
Peggy,
I know what you are talking about. I have visited on Claiborne many times, even before Secretariat was there and was treated so very nicely. When one of their horses is running, I pull for them. Made a nice little fund when Swale won the Derby. Also, it didn’t hurt that Lea was so beautiful and full of personality when I first saw him at Churchill.
BGG: thanks so much for that Art Sherman interview. Really enjoyed it. I had been concerned about him and jet lag, but he had no problems answering the questions. I’m sure he will be a sought after man between now and Saturday! (At least CC does not have to answer questions, except the Big One on Saturday.)
Sally B.: thanks for your Bob Baffert observation–enjoyed your description of events. Careful of those stalking tendencies though. lol.
Zenyatta, thinking of you, now, in the springtime. :-)

California Chrome Meydan workout (and Interview with Alan Sherman)
At The Races Published on Mar 24, 2015
Connections of California Chrome were delighted by his work this morning on the dirt at Meydan. We caught up with assistant trainer Alan Sherman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3ck0Kgd5yA&list=UUUiL8HPhvqMY5zpYLQDiscw
Note Alan is asked about Ascot.
Dubai dirt racing is one thing. Ascot is another world for a horse who has not run on the UK type of turf track. It is very different from US turf. Animal Kingdom won in Dubai, but could not win at Ascot. Nijinsky on the other hand was trained by Vincent O’Brien in Ireland and that is why he was so successful in the UK and won their Triple Crown. But you never really know. Chromie might have the wings to do it, and he’s closer to Ascot now than when he was in California. Might as well give it a try.
Zenny, hope today is a wonderful one for you and your family. Thanks Mayberry for taking such good care of ‘The Queen”. Many of God’s blessings today fo everyone there and here in Zenyatta’s family. with love, Elizabeth PS Can’t wait to see Ziconic and Coz run!
Dear Kathy.Thank you so much for my morning cuppa!!So sweet.Today is full of memories for me,it’s 8 years since my beloved Katie crossed the bridge.I will always miss her and it would be my auntie Nancy’s birthday as well.
Poor Fubu has lost over a pound since his last visit to the doc and momma is upset but the doc said not to worry too much.He did get to visit Petco though.I saw the new brother at my pompals Luni is so cute!I can imagine your 3 behaving like that!I hadn’t been on Boo’s this week and he has lost many “likes”!!!Blue is a sweet puppy. No signs of the ospreys yet I am following a US bird called Donovan he’s in South Georgia at the moment his nest is still covered in snow in New Hampshire!I think he winters in South America.Beatrice is still at her stopover by the river Adour. She’s wise to rest.Mango and sissys are better but still taking the meds Abby was trying to climb the wall to show Brutus her new dress yesterday!!Have heard CC has drawn 9 in the World cup and Main sequence 5 in the Sheema Classic.Safe trips for all!Marty left a message if the cuteness gets too much for us we will all have to turtle-turtle lol!Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
You’re welcome! I know the anniversaries of losing a beloved pet bring everything back so vividly. And then your Auntie Nancy. Try to focus on just remembering all the fun times you had with both of them. You were blessed to have them in your life. Yes, I read that Fubu had lost weight. It’s a concern. But if the doc said not to worry too much then we have to believe him. Dexter is a cute baby, but I have to wonder about having a big dog with those little poms! If anyone can make it work it’s their mom. She obviously knows what she’s doing. That’s unimaginable that Boo would lose likes…there’s no hope for anyone else! Yes, Blue is gorgeous and very sweet. As big as Blue will become, I think Dexter will be bigger still. If he’s a Dogue de Bordeaux he will reach about 150 pounds, I read. That’s a lot of dog!!! And the poms weigh what…about 5 pounds? We will be able to rest a lot easier once the ospreys arrive. Yes, I read about Abby’s escapades. Too funny! Looking forward to the World Cup. Go Chromie! Amen, safe trip for all. Yes, cute message from the ratties. I think we will all be turtle-turtling. They are so cute! Have a wonderful day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.
Hi all,
Have been “off the grid” a bit but was away enjoying some southwestern warmth and sunshine. Saw some baseball, some horses, but (best of all) also got to spend some time with our Diastu and BGG!! It was a WONDERFUL treat to meet BGG and her daughter, have a chance to talk, and see some of her many horse “treasures.” It was also great to see Diana again, and I appreciated her making all of the arrangements so that we could get together and driving all over the county so that I wouldn’t miss anything.
I think I’ve ready almost everything, but I’m too far behind to try to catch up other than to say that you look absolutely great, Mr. Ziconic, and I really enjoyed Anne’s account of meeting up with Dottie and John! So exciting to hear that Coz is nearing the starting line!
Meanwhile, I think we’ve missed a Birthday here. Am a little vague on the exact date (so this may be belated) but Happy Birthday and very best wishes for a great year to Sue Fredrick!!!

Wonderful video of CC and prayers for all the horses and jockeys. Be safe. My brother says I’ll probably have to be dosed with a horse tranquilizer when Coz makes his debut.
Hi All…..i am home….physical therapy coming to the house…i may survive….
…
Rivers is running tomorrow in an Allowance O/C at Oaklawn…and i am housebound..he is not the favorite…some nice horses in the race….but Go Rivers
carol,
Good luck and safe trip to Rivers. Glad you are home and doing better. Will you be able to get to the track for the Arkansas Derby? American Pharoah is supposed to be running in it.
Welcome home, Carol!
I finished my outpatient physical therapy last Fri. due to insurance saying it was enough & go back to work tomorrow (Thurs.). It’s going to be hard getting back into the routine of getting up earlier after sleeping in for 9 weeks.
For everyone who has been praying for Amy, she started to put her left hind leg on the floor or ground on Sat. She doesn’t seem to be putting weight on it yet, but is putting it down a little more each day. We’ll see what Dr. Mike says when she has her stitches removed next Wed. Thank you so much for your prayers!
Safe trips to all horses & jockeys who are racing this weekend…
Dear Donna Z.,
Glad to hear you are doing well! Take care and go easy at first back at work.
Also, am happy that Amy seems to be better and is putting her foot down a little
more each day. Hope she gets a good report next Wed.
Hugs and Love
Rivers good friend Guns Loaded just won the eighth at Oaklawn today….Rivers and Guns were both transferred from their last yrs trainer to C Hartmann this yr…interesting that with different owners they both made the same move this yr…
Guns was 12 to 1 on the morning line…he is smaller than Rivers and chestnut
….
This bodes well for Rivers tomorrow
@Judy–Here is one that has been rolling around in my head that I am sure almost everyone knows. Joe was giving out his business card when his friend Jack took him aside. “Joe,” Jack said,” your business card says BS, MS, Ph.D. on it and I know for a fact you did not even graduate from high school.” “That card is 100% accurate”said Joe. “How so,” said Jack. “Well, Jack,” Joe replied. “You know what BS is don’t you? Well, MS stands for more of the same and Ph.D. means piled higher and deeper.”
Hi Max.Have you heard the Fly and Faugheen may travel over to Aintree also Annie Power. They are entered in the hurdle there but we’ll see. I think Aintree would suit the Fly much flatter course.I would love CC to visit RA but it all depends what will happen on Saturday.I hope Brown Panther behaves on Saturday he’s a nice horse and of course the weather will be hotter than he is used to.Aidan doesn’t plan to run John F Kennedy in the 2000 guineas keeping him racing in Ireland until the Derby.I hear you had more snow so did Nissy about 9ins!Hugs Sheena.
I wonder if The Fly will go there? Even though he’s UK owned, The Fly seems to prefer racing in Ireland. Heard that Mullins is taking a 50-1 horse to Aintree. Never know.
Your mention of the Panther reminded me of his appearance at Woodbine last fall. It was really great the way that he broke free and raced the course on his own. He should have clocked him. What a wonderful horse he is. I like his name too.
No snow after all, but could get some tomorrow. Nissy is in a snow belt this winter. No wonder that he’s not well.
My heart goes out to you with the loss of Smart Strike. I was very fortunate to have gotten to visit with him a couple of times. Loved him so much. Just no words can express this loss. Love you Smart Strike. Rest In Peace. A very sad day. Will see you again one day. Grieving in Georgia. Below in a note to Max & Shirlee I talk a little bit about something very special to me. Am looking forward to seeing her but it will be a little bittersweet now.
Just wanted to tell you both about how excited I have been to be getting to see two now of my favorite horses on Saturday. It was three but now Hunter’s Light is retired. I guess you just realize how special it is just to get to see them. With the passing of Smart Strike it brings it home how special each day is. African Story is just a horse that I’ld just like to bring home with me. Guess that’s just about the way I would describe my feelings. But, I have heard he’s one of Sheik Mohammed’s favorites so I don’t guess that will happen. Geez. Just something clicked with him when I first saw him. Just love him.
Sky Hunter is another when I first saw him, didn’t know what it was just loved everything about him. Something was just “there” about him. Just a very gorgeous special Bay. I went in to research him and quickly found out out I think what part of it was. Quite simply for me “Robeto” On his mom’s side. He is running in the Dubai Sheema Classic against “Oh Gosh” Main Sequence. And, I like him too, but my heart will be there running with Sky Hunter. I will be pulling for some of the US horses in some of the races, but my heart belongs to these two boys.
One last thing, kind of tells how I just love the horses. Hope Lane’s End reads this too.
The end of last year I met down in Florida at the Mayberry’s Farm the most beautiful Filly, well actually two. One was by Smart Strike and the Other by Kitten’s Joy. The Smart Strike Filly is just beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Lane’s End your the best. This little girl is only 2 and I think she goes for sale soon. Well I’m going down and hope to get to see her again. And the Kitten’s Joy Filly. With these two girls there can’t believe Ziconic hasn’t lost his mind. Just hope so hard to get to see these two again.
Lane’s End You’ve helped give us some beautiful horses and this Smart Stike Filly is just out of this world.
Wishing every single horse and Jockeys the best of luck on Saturday and everyday.

Chromie might have the wings to do it, and he’s closer to Ascot now than when he was in California. Might as well give it a try.

Thank you Blue for the up date, you know I love CC!

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
You’re welcome!

Be safe. My brother says I’ll probably have to be dosed with a horse tranquilizer when Coz makes his debut.

vicki; funny!! (I have some anxiety meds perscribed to me and never taken. Think I will keep them on hand when Coz races.)

carol,
Good luck and safe trip to Rivers. Glad you are home and doing better. Will you be able to get to the track for the Arkansas Derby? American Pharoah is supposed to be running in it.
Donna Z
Marshall (NC Broad)

This bodes well for Rivers tomorrow

Dear Carol:
Congrats to Guns; Godspeed Rivers. Hope you’re feeling better. Love and Hugs, JB

Who can resist liking a chestnut with a name like that? Looking forward to hearing more about this guy.
Terry Crow
@Judy–Here is one that has been rolling around in my head that I am sure almost everyone knows. Joe was giving out his business card when his friend Jack took him aside. “Joe,” Jack said,” your business card says BS, MS, Ph.D. on it and I know for a fact you did not even graduate from high school.” “That card is 100% accurate”said Joe. “How so,” said Jack. “Well, Jack,” Joe replied. “You know what BS is don’t you? Well, MS stands for more of the same and Ph.D. means piled higher and deeper.”
Marty R / Colorado
Terry,
I’ve been experiencing some BS, MS and PhD myself today and I didn’t laugh until I read this just now. Thanks for the day brightener.

Max
I wonder if The Fly will go there? Even though he’s UK owned, The Fly seems to prefer racing in Ireland. Heard that Mullins is taking a 50-1 horse to Aintree. Never know.
Your mention of the Panther reminded me of his appearance at Woodbine last fall. It was really great the way that he broke free and raced the course on his own. He should have clocked him. What a wonderful horse he is. I like his name too.
No snow after all, but could get some tomorrow. Nissy is in a snow belt this winter. No wonder that he’s not well.

Dear Lane’s End
My heart goes out to you with the loss of Smart Strike. I was very fortunate to have gotten to visit with him a couple of times. Loved him so much. Just no words can express this loss. Love you Smart Strike. Rest In Peace. A very sad day. Will see you again one day. Grieving in Georgia. Below in a note to Max & Shirlee I talk a little bit about something very special to me. Am looking forward to seeing her but it will be a little bittersweet now.

RIP Smart Strike; beautiful boy. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Max & Shirlee
Wishing every single horse and Jockeys the best of luck on Saturday and everyday.
shirleeinindy
Peggy,
Some of them just grab your heart. At least belonging to the Sheik, African Story will be taken care of all of his life.
Hope the 2 girls you saw at Mayberry do well and are loved and cared for.
