Aww, Zenny. Glad to see her and her paddock mates are doing well in all the cold. ^^ We’re even getting winter weather down here in Florida. Hope all are safe where ever you are in this crazy weather.
PLEASE tell Zenny that it’s freezing in Montreal, Canada today too. And that her sweet face brightens up an otherwise cold & depressing month. (I tend to think of February as the Wednesday of the year and this Feb. has not disappointed!)
Thank you Alys for the great photos of my beautiful Big Girl. I always miss her when too much time goes by without a “pure Zen” posting.
Love & hugs to my Zen family. I’d write more but am plagued by my arthritic hands this week.
Love the photos…….and yes, seeing pictures of Zenyatta always brightens my day. She is so beautiful and looks like she knows she is posing for us fans. Love her! Thanks Team Z for sharing her with us fans.
Ever a seeker of the limelight and affection, which is an endearing trait that sets Z apart from the herd. The temps are predicted to be in sub-zero double-digits for at least the next week…may all the equines be safe and warm! (Really appreciate seeing updated photos of Z and her progeny.)
I love how, even now, she’s aware of the camera. It seems like every picture she’s walking toward the viewer, as if to say “Hello. Nice to meet you.” Makes me extremely happy. :)
Thanks, Alys and Team Z.
I was hoping you would share some snow photos of the lovely ladies.
Love those fuzzy coats and loads of hay! Munch, munch, munch away girls.
Luv ya, Zenny.
Beautiful pictures of Zenny. Thank you so much.
I have 2 questions: Wouldn’t she have already been to War Front, as it is nearing the end of February?
Also, I know they like to let the new foals out to run with their moms as soon as possible, but it has been below zero in Lexington with piles of snow. How do the babies get their exercise in such brutal weather?
Hugs to all. Not cold here in TX, but the wind must be 50 mph!
Ok, LauraJ, I am sure this is a dumb question but how do you know a mare is ready for breeding? I know when bitches are ready but know nothing about horses. Is it maybe a temperature thing? Thank you for any info.
Mary Margaret in Georgia
There are never any dumb questions on Zenny’s blog. My mare would start winking when she is ready for her date.
lauraj_cincinnati
They use a teaser stallion to detect signs of receptiveness. IIRC, the name of the Lane’s End teaser is Capote–at least that’s the fellow they used when they were getting ready to breed her the first time. If she shows signs of receptiveness, then they can palpate the ovaries and/or do an ultrasound to see if she’s ready to ovulate.
pamhomeier
Wow! That sounds like a lot of work! And with all those mares! And poor Capote! He must be terribly frustrated! It sounds easier the way Mary Margaret’s mare did it! Would it be possible to miss a date accidently if not really paying attention the individual mares? Thanks for the info!
Cheryl
Love you Zenyatta, stay safe and warm!

Sending warm thoughts.

I love how she seeks out the person taking her picture. What a Queen she is.

The Queen looks fabulous! Thank you Team Z for keeping us updated with new pictures, a great way to end this week.

When does she go to the breeding shed? Will she go back to Tapit?
Crystal
I keep hearing rumors she’s going back to War Front.
Rachel C
Not a rumor. Mr. Moss confirmed she was going back to War Front in an interview about a month or two after Z Princess passed.
Crystal
Oh awesome, even better. xD
Laura Bischoff
Love how she comes walking up to Alys with hay in her mouth, while the other mares just hang by the feeder. Z is a pocket pony at heart!
Thank you for the photos! Zenny looks wonderful – always a pleasure to read her updates.

Z, you look great in the snow! Thanx for sharing. Peace & Happiness!

The sheds have only been open for a week or so, She very well may not have cycled into heat during that time. One has to wait on the mare.
