Hi everyone – I haven’t been here for AGES and have missed everyone!
Have any of you been calling our little filly by a name that they came up with? I have been calling her Zendora. Wonder what her name will officially end up being?
Read that everyone seems to be doing well. Glad to hear that. Also, does anyone have a recent update on how Ann Maree is doing?
Congratulations to Capri .Ryan and his Ballydoyle connections for winning the St Leger today. The rabbits(as you refer to them)set a furious pace but Capri hung on gamely the first Irish Derby winner to capture the Leger since Nijinsky in 1970 and a first win in the race for Ryan. A Scat daddy colt Seahenge won the champagne stakes earlier and on the day Winx got her 20th consecutive win she also got a little sister Vegas Showgirl and her new filly are both doing well.Huge congratulations.
I don’t believe it. One of my favorite chestnuts, Hawkbill, has been beaten by a nostril in the Northern Dancer Stakes at Woodbine by Johnny Bear who months ago was a claimer. Johnny is an Ontario bred like the namesake whose race it is. He is a son of English Channel and a chestnut who is trained by a woman at Woodbine. Bravo chestnuts! Never give up, people.
This is just incredible and beautiful. The Euros usually own that race. It’s a mile and a half on the turf, and that turf course was specifically designed to be like an English turf course. Maybe the travel got to Hawkbill? He’s a Kitten and a very nice horse.

Dear Max and Z Fans:
Here’s a wonderful article on Johnny Bear winning the Northern Dancer and a link to the replay. Great effort by Hawkbill too. Two gorgeous Chestnuts. Love and Hugs, JB
That really was a head bob; could have gone either way. Both of these gorgeous Chestnuts gave it their all. Love and Hugs, JB

JudyB. Happy for that trainer. Johnny took 6 tries to break his maiden and look at him now. He’s won a grade 1 over a Godolphin horse who was expected to win. Great things might yet be on the horizon for Coz and Zi. This is a triumph for persistence and the little guy over a horse empire. Never give up.

Dear Max:
I like your thinking. Totally agree. Love and Hugs, JB
What an exciting Northern Dancer! Congrats to Johnny Bear and all his connections. As Max noted above, the little guy gets the win this time! Got to love an underdog. Very happy for his trainer, too.
Thanks for posting the great article and the race replay, Judy! We can always count on you. :-) I think it was very cute that Johnny Bear’s trainer said he looked like a marshmallow when she first saw him! Marshmallows have good karma, ha-ha!

Dear Marshall:

Fate clearly had plans for him with this trainer.

World Approval wins the Ricoh Woodbine Mile a Woodbine for Mark Casse. He beat the Ballydoyle duo and other Euro raiders to take a race that his brother, Za Approval, did not win against Wise Dan. Uncle Johnny was aboard. Sandy should be very proud of this horse.
Thanks for this. It’s very easy to pick out World Approval in that group. He runs like his brother. Big day for the Casses to win again. And World has an in to the Breeders Cup.

judy berube
Dear Max:
No, I didn’t know that about World Approval. Thank you for all the unique info that you provide us with your posts. Each one an individual with their own quirky personalities. Big Red, Big D, Fly, Moose, Danny, WA and so many more; love them all.
Sandy is thrilled indeed!!! I was a bit sorry to hear about his disposition as Za was so nice and mellow when we visited him in Florida. Maybe he just has his “game face” on at all times?
Za probably knew that you were his admirer and behaved well. You showed respect. Apparently, Za is otherwise mean like his half brother, according to Casse. Personally, I like a horse with that kind of personality.
I guess this is a good example of not seeing something that you don’t want to see. I had read that article and completely missed Casse saying that they were both mean! That makes it even more special that he was so nice to me, and if being “mean” helps WA win races, then more power to him (as long as he doesn’t hurt his human staff :-)
There was a delay in the start of the Woodbine Mile. Here’s the reason. Might have been an omen from the racing gods that the gray cashmere was going to win.
I was just now watching the replay of the Northern Dancer at Woodbine when I noticed breaking news at the top of the page. I am so sad — Penny Chenery has died at age 95 from complications of a stroke. She died on the 16th. :-(

Endless gratitude to you and sincere condolences to family and friends.
Sad to hear of the death of Mrs Penny Chenery but her long life is to be celebrated. She is now reunited with her beloved Riva Ridge and Secretariat and I am sure they are kicking up a storm.RIP dear lady
We have also lost Geoff Wragg one of our top Newmarket trainers.A very modest man he was 87 and leaves his wife of 61yrs Patricia.Amongst his most notable winners was Teeneso Lester Piggott’s last Derby winner. That all his staff remained with him during his career says much of the man.RIP.There will be a private funeral.

Was so excited to see Johnny Bear make a move from the iniside to go nose to nose with Hawkbill. Johnny’s jockey seems a great fit for him and found an opening and went for it. Great race by both horses. Loved the article on Johnny Bear, heartwarming.
World Approval sailed in for a decisive win, enjoyed that race too.
Congrats to Capri winning the St. Ledger and to Rivers and his win, yay.
