Hello everyone!
We are so grateful for the support and interest that you have shown through the last few months. From the constant stream of comments on this website to the cards and gifts sent by fans, Zenny and her colt truly know how loved they are.
As Zenyatta and 12Z enter a new phase in their lives, we thought this would be the perfect time to invite a second round of “Ask The Experts” submissions.
We’ve been collaborating with the staff at Lane’s End, some of the most knowledgeable thoroughbred experts in the world, to answer questions sent in by our readers. If you haven’t yet seen our previous posts, click on the “Ask The Experts” category in the right-hand column.
Now is your chance to send in a question on a new topic related to thoroughbred breeding or yearling life on the farm. Perhaps you didn’t get the chance to submit your question last time or you’ve thought of something new. Be creative!
Later this week we will feature a video response from Mike Cline, General Manager of Lane’s End, as well some more video footage from our trip. We also wanted to let you know…
that Tasty says hi!

Trina and all who posted birthday greetings on “Weaned, and All is Well.”
Trina, thank you for the beautiful birthday sonnet you posted yesterday. Rest assured, I will treasure it always.
And thank all of you for your birthday wishes. So very kind of you. In your honor, I worked very hard over a five day “long weekend” filled with celebratory activities including Shakespeare at the Old Globe in San Diego’s Balboa Park.

Ditto to what has been said – it really IS a lovely treat to find these pictures of Tasty T looking so well. I’m sure she’s looking over the fence for her BFF Zenny, and I hope they will be able to keep in touch even though in different paddocks. Thanks to all at Lane’s End for this welcome update!!

Thank you so much for providing another opportunity for us to ask questions and learn more about the post-racing life of our Queen and I’m sure we will learn about the future racing of the crown prince. You are so generous to continue sharing with us and for this I am grateful every day that I visit this site – which is every day – lol!! Now I’ll put my thinking cap on and see if I can come up with an intelligent question. Thanks for the photos and update on Tasty Temptation, too!

Oh Rosemary how adorable, I’ve always loved donkeys. Don’t those ears remind you of somebody? Hugs
Rosemary McCauley - Pres/AZ/New Mexico RNC
I didn’t think of the ears, but you’re right, they do remind me of a certain young prince – but the prince’s ears are much more regal (not intended to insult the baby donkey, mind you).
I’m so happy the vets took the time and effort to help the little guy get around. You just want to squeeze him!

Love this link, such a precious baby donkey.
Thanks Rosemary, so heart warming.

Great link Sue.
Shades of Zenny.
Did you see The Vault and Abigail’s 3 part series on Zenny Rachel and the x large heart chromasome? Great 3 part series, from last year.
Sue Fredrick Co-P WI Chapt.
Sign and Ann Maree,
Oh you bet I read all of Abigails articles, I’m the pain in the butt that keeps bugging her to have them in print, newsletter, or something. I just thought this hads additional info in it that some might not have read. Hey, I had fun posting this link too……..I’m ready for anything now, ha, ha! Hugs
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Oh yes Sue, this is a great addition to what Abigail has written.
Just mentioned it for those who have not seen Abigails 3 part series
to add to what you posted.
Ann Maree / Tennessee
Hey, Sue! Here’s the link from Abigail’s blog on the three-part series she did called “Rachel, Rags & Zenyatta: The Power of X.” http://thevaulthorseracing.wordpress.com/2011/06/15/rachel-rags-zenyatta-and-the-power-of-x-part-one/
This is an in-depth look into the world of genetics, the “X” factor, DNA and mtDNA in a very interesting, informative and entertaining way. All three parts of the series are well worth the time it takes to read through and digest the material. I continually go back and re-read this series, as it takes me more than one reading to begin to “get it”, even just a little! We are so fortunate to have Abigail in our midst.

Dear Ann Marie:

What a wonderful surprise to see the lovely photos of Tasty–we have been wondering about her often!! Thank you!! It does look as though she and Zenny can talk over the fence–that is really great!!!
RIP indeed to Phyllis Diller!! I loved her from the first time I heard her tell a joke! I used to quote the one all the time (actually,I still do,from time to time) about how she hated to clean her oven, and, that it was so dirty that she could only bake one cupcake at a time!! I thought that was hilarious!! Sounds rather red-neck,don’t you think??
@ Trina,Max,Jan S.,Judy B.,Sign,Darlene,Girl Saratoga,Terry C. (grand Poobah),Sandy and Barbara–Thanks so much for all the lovely comments!! I love sharing stories about my blessed boy–am so glad others are enjoying them and not thinking “oh no,not again!!” I keep Marlene up to date on how he’s doing by e-mail and she sounds really pleased about how he is getting along. Was so glad she was able to save that last batch–she told me there was enough to save a couple of extra ones—good work all!!! She is so wonderful–anything that can be done to help her is SO deserved!!
There are several fires, large ones, burning within 75 miles of us–one is making national news and is bearing down on the little towns of Pine and Featherville,,in a remote area between here and Boise. Last week a fire started near the ignition point of the Castle Rock fire, which was making national news five years ago this month. Luckily this new one was controlled at 350 acres and is out now. During the Castle Rock fire, there were flames trying to come over the top of Bald Mountain, our main ski hill, which,at 9000 feet, towers over the contiguous towns of Ketchum and Sun Valley. Baldy looked like a volcano–it was a very close thing that the whole town of Ketchum did not burn up!! Needless to say,we are all extra nervous about wild-fires now. Sue and I have been plotting about how to ride the horses out of their canyon at East Fork, over the mountais to Sun Valley,if it should ever come to that. We pray it never will!! There has been lots of smoke in the air the last couple of weeks–the winds blow it in from the far-away fires . So far,it doesn’t seem to be bothering Barnaby and Traveller too much. People with allergies and all are suffering.
Last night, because I had to go to a rehersal after work,it was nearly ( before I got down to the little ranch–and, therefore, nearly dark. They know the sound of my little Miata though, and were on the move right away, trotting up to the fence by the time I made it around the corner and parked the car. Because the house sits up on a little hill at the corner of the property and the hill falls away,so that the pasture is aboutm 10 or 15 feet below the level of the road, they can see me driving along the long side of the pasture as I approach. It is such fun when they come nickering up to the fence wanting their “goodies”. Sometimes,I will go up to greet BArnaby before going to make up their grain bowls. If he is in a big hurry to eat,he will barely let me pet him, then turns his rump to me as if to say,”enough with the mush–I want my grain NOW!” I find it so funny and quite smart of him to be able to communicate his desires so clearly! I set his grain pan down first,so that he does not take Traveller’s,then go back and pick it up so that I can talk to him while he eatsand watch him savor all the different flavors in the nightly mix.. Then he gets his favorite things–dessert! Just like any kid,he loves that best. I never tire of watching him devour his Fuji apples–he loves them so!! Where he lives, there are lots of deer(I saw a doe and her fawn a quarter-mile from their pasture last night. Lots of bunnies living on the place. One day,a coyote was lying down in the pasture with them!!
Sweet dreams all–am so looking forward to being able to give you hugs at the BC—and to show you photos of Barnaby!! We both send love!!
Max
Sue. Another good story. I am going to try Fuji apples and see what is the attraction for your Barnaby. Z got me started on Fiji water.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Fuji apples are great, sweet, but tart too
Think you will like them and not too expensive.

I hope you can stay safe from the fires and won’t have to ride over the mountain. Prayers for all in the path of the fire.

I was only in Idaho once on business and thoroughly enjoyed the people and the landscape. I visited the area where Evel Knievel tried to jump the Snake River canyon and talked to quite a few people who were living there at the time. I have told the story before, but if anyone wants to see it again I will post it.

I do, I do.
