Q:
Does Ziconic have a barn name?
Ann Maree
Collierville, Tennessee
A: No, we call him Ziconic. Often a barn name comes when a horse doesn’t yet have a name or when we don’t like the one he has.
Q:
Since you trained Cozmic One and you are now training Ziconic, you must feel some pressure to make sure that they come out as great as possible. How do you handle this weight on your shoulders, knowing that you are making a future for these two as race horses?
Cassie Pashko
Sundre, AB Canada
A: We’re basic caregivers, and we do worry about them like they’re our kids. It would be a lot more pressure if we hadn’t trained Zenyatta. Seeing her traits in these two colts has eased the pressure and made it fun. They were able to fall into their routines naturally. We want them to do well and be the best they can be, so we do our best to give them the tools to succeed.

The only horse who is more beautiful is Zenyatta herself.

February 7 Cherokee Devotional
We blame far too much an age and too little on attitudes. Life is meant to be lived without dreading birthdays or looking for signs that one’s natural force is abated.
Life is meant to be lived for a good reason-to tell the negative forces we will not be defeated. We will not be a royal pain nor roam through life without a purpose. Each of us has a purpose and we will not give it up until the course is finished.
When someone asks, “How are you?” answer, “Well to do, wa du-thank you!”
What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night…it is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.

Kathy, Loved your devotional today (well – love all of your devotionals). I’m always chasing flashes and shadows. We try always to ‘lose ourselves’ in the sunset every evening- even if it’s just for a brief moment. The same is true just before bedtime – unless it’s cloudy (which doesn’t happen frequently here). Try not to miss the starlit night sky . Amazing bookends for each day. Tomorrow is always a fresh new book to open. Thank you again. You give such inspiration for the day. God is so good. with love, Elizabeth
Kathy
Dear Elizabeth,
Thank you so much! You’re too kind. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. I hope you have a beautiful sunset to enjoy tonight. Love and hugs, Kathy

Dear Kathy.Oh,I dread my birthdays now!But we are all just a moment in time.Great racing at Newbury today. It was wonderful to see Denman parading!SDG’s race is on now.The McManus pair are testing his stamina alright!SDG has fallen but is okay such a shame but AP got his 200th winner of the season though but a shock announcement he is going to retire at the end of the season!!!! He wants to retire a champion such a living legend in the UK and Ireland.Lovely story on Zoe at the PO Mr Earl wanted to buy her!!Poor Judy was in agony with her tooth and spent 3 hours at the dentist and has had antibiotics now!I haven’t had much time to visit the rest Buddy and Boo looked so cute and Buddy is getting better.Theba has a gorgeous cat of her own called Dooley.Maine coons are stunning.Am just getting over the shock of AP!Have a great Saturday.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.Did you get the news about Hovis?Very expensive treatment! He’s full of life though!
Kathy
Hi Sheena,
I guess getting older does beat the alternative! Glad you have great racing. Enjoy! Loved the post office story from Zoe. She is so precious. Sorry to hear of Judy’s continuing pain. Wonderful news that Buddy is doing so well. That was a great pic of Theba’s Maine Coon cat. What a gorgeous cat! No, haven’t read about Hovis, will check it out. Enjoy your day. Love and hugs, Kathy.

I must pay tribute to our greatest jumps jockey AP McCoy who announced his retirement today at Newbury with his 20th championship in the bag.A driven, dedicated man we will never see his like again. It is impossible to pick a favourite moment but maybe his Grand National win in 2010 on Don’t Push It is one of them. Thanks for the memories AP.Enjoy your retirement with your lovely young family, you deserve it.Hugs Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Wow…20 championships! That’s amazing! Happy retirement wishes to AP. Hugs, Kathy.

Zenny, If your boys weren’t racehorses, they’d have to be movie stars – they are so handsome! What a dream to come to ‘Zenyatta’s’ website everyday and be included in such a wonderful adventure! You can just see from this picture that Ziconic is not only stunningly handsome and highly intelligent, but also very, very kind. Just like Mom!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Oh Ziconic!!! I have run out of adjectives to express how gorgeous you are!! So glad you are being a good boy and learning those important fundamentals from the Mayberry team. Thanks to much to them and Team Z for these wonderful updates!
Safe trips to all the horses and jockeys running and riding today. Lots of excitement to be had in both Derby prep races and “The Big One.” Just hope everyone greats a clean trip with no drama!
sue and tony
Everything about Ziconic from day 1 has been spectacular. He looks better (if that’s possible) with each new picture. Thanks to the Mayberry’s for taking time to field more questions from us.

I think Zenny needs another date with Tapit. Together they have made one gorgeous colt in Ziconic.

Dear Judy.Thinking of you.Good luck to CC tonight.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Boo and all the Sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

Well, bummer. Chrome finished a beaten second to Shared Belief. Chrome ran a good race, but I hate to say this because I like Victor Espinoza, but I think Mike Smith gets a little something extra out of his horse. Commentators were saying Shared Belief is now best horse in country and he could very well be, but he needs to race outside California before I agree.
Ingrid Arnone
Dear Karen
Yes, I agree with.
Hugs Ingrid.
Max
Shared Belief just outraced the reigning Horse of the Year in California. Zenyatta was criticized for racing too often in California. She was still the best horse in the US.
Karen R.
True Max about the complaints about our Zenyatta racing mostly here in California but she did race at Oaklawn a couple times plus Churchill Downs. I would like to see Shared Belief venture out of the state for few races and see how he handles it.
I think he will eventuly need to prevent the naysaying.
Max
The commentators are saying that Shared Belief is presently the top horse in the US because he convincingly beat the reigning horse of the year. Where he did that doesn’t really matter. It’s the competition that a horse faces and performance that counts. Frankel never left England and only raced at a few tracks there, but that does not change the fact that he was a race horse of a lifetime. SB missed the Triple Crown last year because of injury not because he can only race in California. We will have to see how the season unfolds for both of these horses and others. It’s very early days, but it’s congrats now to SB and Mike for sure.
sheena.davies(wales)
Congratulations to Shared Belief and Mike.Onwards to Dubai CC!Sheena.
Max
CC has not won on dirt since The Preakness. They recently put dirt in the track at Dubai.
Max
Shared Belief is one tough little horse. Might be his dam sire’s influence. Only needed a few left handed reminders from Zenny’s Mike to put his head down, pin those ears back and go for it. Very nice win for his sire, Candy Ride. Congrats to Mike Smith.
Ingrid Arnone
Dear Max,
Share B he was so good,
for CC he was very good too, like they say we win some we loos some.
Hugs Ingrid.
Max
Shared Belief has only lost once and that was in a troubled trip in the BCC. We will see what happens next. Chrome is a nice horse.

On this day in 1983 a horse was snatched from his stables at Ballymany stud and if we are to believe met a tragic, brutal end. They often quote the English always remember but the Irish never forget. As a proud inhabitant of Wales(nearer to Ireland)I NEVER forget the horse either. His name was Shergar.RIP my beautiful boy.Sheena.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Yes, Sheena, this was an awful thing! Poor Shergar had nothing to do with political unrest. An innocent soul disappeared and was never returned. RIP Shergar
