Q:
All horses have their quirks and preferences. What does Ziconic like? What bothers him?
Robin Bruen
Morristown, NJ
A: We haven’t come across anything that bothers him. He likes to eat, he likes to be outside, and he really likes people and other horses. He also loves to train!
Q:
What would a typical workout on the track consist of?
Does he get any other exercise at this age, or is it all on the track?
Wendy Hicks
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
A: He gets to go out in the paddock each morning for 20 to 30 minutes before he trains. During training, he gallops either once or twice around the 5/8 mile track–we’ll alternate day to day until he starts getting older and more fit. After he trains, he goes back out in his paddock. He also gets hand walked.
Q:
I was wondering how Ziconic and Coz are similar and how they are different, in training and personality. Also, is one more like Zenyatta than the other?
Kris O’Connor
Lombard, IL
A: They’re both very intelligent like Zenyatta. Coz was a much more serious baby. He arrived with a very professional attitude; he had a job to do, and he knew what it was. Ziconic is more playful. He’s a little more laid back and easygoing.

If it is going to offend you, don’t look and don’t listen. Offense is a weapon used against peaceable people. It tries to keep us from seeing the morning sun and feeling the mist against our faces.
Everything tries to tamper with happiness-and happiness is not because of something but in spite of something. Don’t be receptive to ugliness designed to amuse-or to inform, as some so cleverly put it. Offense leaves a wound that has trouble healing.
All miserable as we seem in your eyes, we consider ourselves much happier than you.

Dear Kathy.More wise words from the Native Americans!I’m glad you enjoyed the link,we so often hear sad news these days but this was a real feel-good story. Now tradesmen and lawyers have offered their services for free!Katie had only expected to raise a few hundred now he has nearly 300,000!
Sire’s on fire! back at Newbury on Saturday really hope he runs well!Have you seen the rats at Marty’sBoarding school?2 of them actually took performance enhancing yogies!!!!They are staying a few weeks and expect snacks! No signs of Fubu since sunday Kimberly can’t be very well.It was great of Zoe to remind us of Buddy Holly’s anniversary gosh,he was young when he was killed. Her mum Diane is a very talented lady indeed! It’s pretty cold here today but sunny hope the storms weren’t too bad in New England.Boo is spending the day looking good! He’s clever at that.Have to check on Miss Kitty and Haven now.Did you see the beautiful video on Joey’s page with the dog? It’s for Valentine’s day!Super.Enjoy your day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Feel-good stories are certainly in short supply. That’s wonderful that so much has been raised. So glad Sire is running so well. Fingers crossed for continued success and safety. Yes, saw and enjoyed Marty’s School ob bizness. I must say, it’s pretty early on for 2 students to have been expelled! I always worry when there’s no news from Fubu. Love Zoe, and love Diane, too. They are both guaranteed day-brighteners. I hope Boo is taking good care of Buddy during his convalescence. I did see the dog video. So sweet and a tear-jerker! Have a great day and take care of yourself. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Fellow Zsters,
I hope Zenyatta and all of you are safe and warm. Can you believe we got 17 more inches of snow here yesterday – and more is due on Thursday and Sunday!
We’ve already set a record for snow in a week this year and just keep breaking it.
I plan to watch the parade — down the streets of Boston amid HUGE piles of snow – from my sofa tomorrow. I know that most outside New England don’t love the Patriots, but we do. They are a great team who do lots of good work in our community. I also feel the need to say that anyone who has met or had any dealings with Tom Brady is completely confident that he did not break any rules. He is a class act all the way. I also believe that because Coach B made a mistake before and got a big fine, I think he is extra careful not to break the rules now.
In any case, the SB was a great game. I think Coach B was right when he said that in the end. about one yard separated the two teams. We’ve had the 2 previous SB games we were in end the same way on an amazing play — so Pats’ fans know too well how the loss feels to Seattle fans. But that is a great team and I know they’ll be back in that game soon.
Can’t see enough pix or hear enough about Ziconic and Cozmic One. Each is simply gorgeous!!!

Congrats to your Pats.
Stay safe during this blizzard blitz.
Evidently, Coach B was inspired by a horse…TIZNOW! Steve Haskin has a new article about these two. Interesting. Dig deep down, like Tiznow! Good read.
Max
Tiznow is awesome. He nailed the Euros twice, including Galileo in 2001. He is exceptional in every way. He’s big and his blaze is like Zenyatta’s. He looks like Zenyatta. However, in temperamental, there’s a difference. If Tiz doesn’t get his meals delivered exactly on time, there is trouble, lots of noise to demonstrate his annoyance. He has also been known to take a few bites out of visitors. Great horse.
maureen phi-llips
Dear Max,
Thanks for writing about Tiznow, love love, him, don’t know where you got that story that he bite anyone, No, with a face like that, how can anyone possibly say his a bitter. Where is he now?. Take care always. It is well.
Max
Maureen. Once saw a video of him trying to take a bite out of his trainer. There is nothing wrong with that. He got some cookies instead. Very intelligent is Tiznow. Knows how to escape his stall. Some of the very best horses are biters. I admire that in The Fly and Big D and others.
Max
Forgot to mention that Tiz is at Winstar. They have a nice photo of him on their website. Looks very well. Could be a twin to Zenyatta. He’s tall like her too.

Dear Annie B.,
I echo Ann’s sentiments: Congratulations to your Patriots!
I would love to have SOME of your snow for our area — so far just a few flakes and more than enough cold rain, Ick! I am not losing hope yet, but usually if there isn’t any snow in January, then winter is a bust. Not always, but more often than not.
Stay safe and keep warm — may your power stay on.
Hugs and Love

Went out to Los Alamitos on Sunday to watch California Chrome’s workout. He looks great and should give a good account of himself this weekend at Santa Anita against Shared Belief. Ran into Karen Gogue there and we talked over old times. It was great to see her and she looked really well.

Sounds like a great day, TC. Being at the track with friends and watching the HOY, wow!

‘Chrome’, Shared Belief Ready for Battle
By Steve Haskin,The Blood-Horse February 3, 2015
Some things are worth waiting for. It’s been a long time since racing fans have witnessed the great rivalries that were such an integral part of the sport when names like Affirmed and Alydar, Damascus and Dr. Fager, Swaps and Nashua, and Seabiscuit and War Admiral seemed to roll off the tongue as a single entity.
Today, fans have had to settle for great rivalries of the mind, in which they could do no more than envision what it would be like for Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra to face each other.

SallyB.(AuntiecherishesZandheryoung)
BG; Zenyatta was there to race against Rachael at Arkansas but Rachael never showed up because of a couple reasons. So I guess it will always be a question in our minds. In my mind, though both were and are great racing mares, Zenyatta would have run like she did in her last Breeders Cup (when losing by a nose to Blame), only she would have won without question. Just me and my mind.

Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sheena,
Bailey is just great! She is fitting in very nicely. I am having to take her to work with me this week since the E collar (aka cone or lampshade) that she must wear to keep her from licking her incision and pulling it open is much too large for her to be comfortable in the crate. She is doing extremely well at the store. I am lucky that my boss suggested that I bring her to work. She is friendly and is behaving nicely at the store.
Huey is doing well with the new sister. He has to snarl at her every once in awhile just to keep her in line! So happy to have her with us!
Have a good week.

Budweiser’s newest Clydesdale born minutes before Super Bowl XLIX ad airs
By Gary T. Mills Jacksonville.com Tue, Feb 3, 2015
The same day a Budweiser Clydesdale and puppy won over the hearts of Super Bowl XLIX viewers, the Budweiser Clydesdale family welcomed its newest addition, Arizona.
Arizona was born at central Missouri’s Warm Springs Ranch minutes before Budweiser’s “Lost Dog” commercial aired Sunday, according to a post on the ranch’s Facebook page. The commercial took top honors in USA Today’s annual Ad Meter ranking of favorite Super Bowl

SallyB.(AuntiecherishesZandheryoung)
BG; I can not get enough of the Budweiser Commercials!! This years ad was very special. Arizona is to die for, so cute. Several years ago we went to Branson and on our way we stopped at Budweiser in St. Louis. I was more interested in the Clydesdale than the making of the beer, but you got the tour of both. I loved being up close to these awesomely big beautiful animals. I could have eaten off the floor of the stalls they were so clean!! Oh, sure I would have eaten a bit of pure looking straw. hah
One of the Clydesdale was outside having a bath and the guy was on a 6 ft. ladder to wash his neck and head better. He was a big boy!. (the horse, of course)
At the end of the tour they had small mini glasses of beer tasting and a couple bags of snacks as well. Did not try all beer samples as we had a while to drive after the tour. I would go there again!! And it was all free to boot.
hugs, Sally B

It is a blessing that we need each other. Communication brings vitality and energy and lovely sharing. This does not mean we say the same things or eat the same food and think the same thoughts. It means we share space without rancor and envy. It means we are happy to see each other in good health and doing well.
A Cherokee grandmother advises, “Celebrate being an individual. It is a good time to be one’s own best friend-and it is time to unfold one’s spirit to draw in someone less secure.”
I fear no man, and I depend only upon the Great Spirit.

Kathy, Beautiful devotional today. I think the blessing in the words you shared is reflected in Zenyatta, her own family and the family she has here on her website. Zenyatta ‘has’ brought us her ‘vitality and energy and lovely sharing’, and we (her fans) share so much together. Even though we don’t all get to ‘see’ each other, there is such a closeness and charitable spirit in Zenny’s group of fans here on her website. Thank you, Kathy, for these beautiful words today. Many blessings from God, I pray for you, for Zenny and everyone here on her website. with love, Elizabeth

Dear Elizabeth,
Thank you for such kind words! It is my pleasure to post the Devotionals. I find them inspirational and if just a few people here feel the same, that’s all I ask. I agree today’s post is reflected in Zenyatta, her family and our Z nation. Have a beautiful and blessed day.

Dear Kathy.A wonderful devotional today. We have all been brought together by Zenyatta and our love for her.It was too cold for Ray and his bruddahs to go out yesterday but Ray is studying an icicle in his garden today. I am sure I heard on ABC news last night there is another storm on the way!Have heard Mullins is thinking of giving Faugheen a prep run!Mango wanted her mum’s large suitcase to go to CA she wants to wear all her Purdy dresses.Abby went out to buy a valentine for her boyfriend dressed in her tu-tu and carrying her red purse!still no signs of Fubu since sunday.Poor Zoe had a fright when the alarm went off yesterday mum was there to comfort her though.Loki is eating well again and taking his meds but he wanted his mum to stay home and cuddle him.He was making biscuits(kneading) her.We always used to say our cats were”making their beds”It’s still very cold here but sunny spring is on the way!Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
You’re absolutely right. I can think of no better reason for this community to come together. We Indeed love and cherish Zenyatta. Wow, I wonder how cold it got at Ray’s house. They do so love to frolic in the snow. They sure have been inundated by storms back east. Exciting news on Faugheen. Keep me posted! Gee, if Mango gets mom’s big suitcase, what will mom use for her clothes??? I know…a carry-on! lol I imagine Abby looked adorable in that tu-tu. I’m really concerned about Fubu and Kimberly! Yes, I felt so bad for little Zoe reading that account. So glad Mommy could give her comfort. What a trooper Zoe is! She did her therapy visits outside! Good to hear Loki is doing well. Splinter and Christopher have apologized for being expelled. They will not reveal where the drug enhanced yogies came from, however. Have a great Hump Day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

@Carol in Arkansas…A bionic part… a good spirited way to look at it. Best wishes for a successful surgery and good recovery. Glad you will get to see some of the racing beforehand. Speaking of racing, I lost my second lifeline in the Tampa Bay contest so I won’t be living it up anymore. If only I would go with my first “gut” thought instead of trying to think it through for making a choice, I would still have those lifelines.
@ Marshall…What a great boss to suggest you bring Bailey to work and so happy she’s doing well. Once she learns all of Huey’s rules, he won’t have to snarl anymore.

Dear Catherine, It’s good to see your post. Zenyatta is being bred back to War Front this year. I’m sure we’ll hear as soon as all are absolutely sure she is pregnant.
shirleeinindy
Marty,
War Front is at Claiborne and they told us they don’t open their breeding shed until 2/10. So, could be a few more days before they have their dates.
Marty R / Colorado
Dear Shirleeinindy, Thank you Shirlee. I did remember that their date will be a ways off. Mr. Moss said in an interview that she will be bred to War Front this spring, so that could mean anything except revealing a definite date for their date. I also remember Zenyatta losing her first pregnancy, so I’m sure there will be no announcement until all her connections are positive she is in foal. We just have to be patient and wait and keep on loving her and her boys. No pacing yet.
Catherine Uher
Hi Marty R/Colorado,
Thank you so much for the update!!! I was wondering if they would breed her to him again and was hoping so, so this just made me jump up and down like a little kid!!! I’m praying all goes well and that we will have an announcement soon!!!
