Q:
All horses have their quirks and preferences. What does Ziconic like? What bothers him?
Robin Bruen
Morristown, NJ
A: We haven’t come across anything that bothers him. He likes to eat, he likes to be outside, and he really likes people and other horses. He also loves to train!
Q:
What would a typical workout on the track consist of?
Does he get any other exercise at this age, or is it all on the track?
Wendy Hicks
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
A: He gets to go out in the paddock each morning for 20 to 30 minutes before he trains. During training, he gallops either once or twice around the 5/8 mile track–we’ll alternate day to day until he starts getting older and more fit. After he trains, he goes back out in his paddock. He also gets hand walked.
Q:
I was wondering how Ziconic and Coz are similar and how they are different, in training and personality. Also, is one more like Zenyatta than the other?
Kris O’Connor
Lombard, IL
A: They’re both very intelligent like Zenyatta. Coz was a much more serious baby. He arrived with a very professional attitude; he had a job to do, and he knew what it was. Ziconic is more playful. He’s a little more laid back and easygoing.

Thanks so much for sharing! Hugs to all at LE and Mayberry, and Team Z!

I enjoyed the personality & temperament comparisons between Coz & Ziconic. What came to mind was – typical – aren’t firstborns always the ones that are highly achievement oriented, with great focus, while subsequent siblings tend to be more playful, creative, and social? Well….there you go!
Linda in NJ
That’s funny. I was thinking the same thing. I am the oldest one, very serious, too serious for my own good. My brother on the other hand is far more laid back with a great personality and very social.

TOTALLY FASCINATING! GREAT questions and the answers — especially as to how the boys differ — was really interesting.
Thank you!
marypny
Real good questions and I love the answers. The two boys have their own attitudes and temperments. Love to know they are both smart like their momma! Hoping they have inherited the talents of their sires AND of course Zenyatta!

To the Mayberry Family: Thanks for answering questions that most of us wanted answers to. You must have had read thousands of questions about Ziconic and his family.
Many thanks as well to Team Zenyatta, the Mayberrys and Lane’s End.
Mary
So interesting…..thank you for sharing. I love to see and hear anything about Zenyatta……and anything about her offspring. Her boys seem to be so much like their mother……have all or some of her wonderful and fascinating traits.

Making a trip to Ocala in a few weeks for sprint car racing, didn’t know if a tour is available of the farm or tourist activities ?
DmamaKlock
I asked that same question of the Ocala tour guides. The answer was no. However you are able to tour other locations. There is a thoroughbred museum there that is well worth the visit.

Thanks so much for answering these questions and keeping us “in the loop”. I know it may seem weird to have complete strangers so interested in the training process, but as you know, these “kids” are very special!
Ellen
Great questions. Thank you. I was looking forward to this.

Thanks for sharing! I can never felt enough of anything Zenyatta. Especially anything to do with her handsome boys!

Oh what a treat for Friday. So nice to hear all about the boys and their different qualitites. We are so lucky to have the Mosses and you share all this information….no one else does this for the fans like Zenny’s people. They are both individuals and like all horses very unique you must so enjoy training them!! Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.
Kisses and hugs to Zenny, Zi, CoZ, our Angel, and to my Indy.

Really good questions and interesting answers. I really enjoyed hearing about how Coz and Ziconic are different. Both of Zenyatta’s sons are very special individuals. Thanks to the Mayberry’s for taking the time to keep us in the loop and to all of Team Z for continuing to allow us to share in the lives of Zenyatta and her family. It is a very special gift.
Hugs to all,
Leslie

Thanks so much for the post. Sorry we missed hearing about Z’s fll brother, “Monty” who is there with Ziconic. You could tell from the start that Zi is more like Z in tempernment. Of course, he and Queen Z share the same birthday. He is a handsome colt. He and Coz remind me so much of Prince William and Prince Harry. The heir and the spare.
Ayley "L"
To me, they are both “Heirs” but to continue the Princes of England analogy, the younger one is also a “ginger ” I’m dreaming of back to back Derby wins, one for each boy.

♥ Fascinating info!
I met Ziconic at Lane’s End (before he was named). I saw him as very alert, intuitive, and was interested in us visitors. I got the impression he would be more “serious” or “professional” as a race horse :-) Playful? What a kick! LOL
As for CoZmic One. I guess being the first born he got the older sibling trait taking racing seriously. It’s been a real thrill seeing him at Santa Anita during work outs. He already draws a crowd! I know his exercise rider. He did say CoZ is very professional :-)
Both of these Z boys are handsome!!! God bless them and keep them safe.

Dear Sheena,
Oh my gosh, I thought the exact same thing about how Coz and Ziconic are sort of comparable Prince William and Prince Harry! Can’t wait for these two “princes” to wow all of us…

Dear Max.Thank you for reminding me of the anniversary of Charles 1’s execution. As a monarchist it’s not a date I really care to remember.Although not around at the time(am not that old)!I remember feeling rather upset when I learned Churchill lost the election after the war but then that is a healthy democracy.I wish we had some politicians we could respect though as in the olden days. All animals deserve our love and respect.Sheena.

One of the great portraits of all time is the equestrian portrait of Charles I by van Dyke. Magnificent horse is in it. Charles was a lover of horses. Van Dyke painted many exceptional equestrian portraits. I always examine the horses first in those paintings.
To me anything that happened after 1850 is current events.

It’s so nice to learn a bit about this handsome boy. He’s gorgeous.

Thank you for the info on Ziconic. I love to hear about Zenyatta’s children. It seems to me she has taught both boys to interact and love people. I am glad he has her intelligence. God Bless that beautiful boy. Love you, Shari XXOO

Love the up dates on Cos And Zonic

If I were a mare, I would think both boys totally “hot” but Ziconic would be my bff, Coz my ‘goal’ for the long haul.
Barbara Wood
Have been gone all day and just now discovered this. What a fun start to the weekend. Both boys will be loved and adored throughout their lives, but it is great to learn more of their personalities early on. Thank you so much.
@sheena–another memory you sparked in your mention of William and Harry: when we were there, waiting for the royal family to appear, there was a bunch of girls from Germany in the crowd shouting, “Villiam! Villiam.” It tickles us to this day. You made a good comparison.
Marty R / Colorado
These are great questions. I will admit, I misjudged the boys’ personalities from videos we saw of them as babies and yearlings. I thought Coz would have been more playful. Remember the squealing he did as he ran and how Mom had to chase him down? At the beginning of the video of Zi in the walking machine, sorry I don’t know the proper name, the gentleman said he is a workhorse. I thought from that comment that he was probably pretty serious. So glad to read that they are both intelligent and I’m sure they have felt they are special from each of their day one.
@Sue Robinson. I signed up for the handicapping at Tampa Bay Downs as Marty R Original, I know. This contest could be tricky and short lived. Is it a race track you can go to? Good luck to all ‘cappers.
Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Moss for allowing us to remain in Zenyatta’s life. Thanks also to Team Z, Mayberry Farm, and Lane’s End for everything you do to take care of the horses and of us, as well. We are pampered in Zenyatta Nation.
Barbara Wood
Yes, we will never forget that adorable squealing. That will always be in my memory. Just too cute.
Cathi Sadocha
I too loved the questions and the answers. Both Coz and Ziconic are beautiful, their individuality shows through and through. Yes in some way like their Momma. I adore them both, no i mean love them from birth.
Everyone asks how can you love a animal you will probably never see in person, or touch, or bring treats too. The answer is simple, we get to know them, we see their lives, through the owners, trainers and the barn staff.
Team Zenyatta gives us fans much more than we could ever hope for or re-pay. They give us HEART!
