Happy Friday!
We have an exciting five days of posts planned for next week. Each day, we will be announcing a new product from the Zenyatta Shop, and on Thanksgiving day we will post the Breeders’ Cup fan photo gallery. If you haven’t sent in your pictures, there is still plenty of time to do so (see here).
In the meantime, enjoy this expert answer by Charles from Lane’s End:
Q:
I would like to know what type of regular “maintenance” Zenny receives. By this I mean having teeth and feet checked and anything else that keeps her in such great shape.
Sue Werner
Moneta, Va
A:Like all the mares, Zenyatta has her feet trimmed at the start of every month. Regular visits by the farrier are very important in order to keep the feet in good shape and prevent cracks or flairs from forming. There is an old saying,”No foot, no horse,” and this is very true and especially with mares when heavily in foal.
With regards to teeth, all of the mares have their teeth floated once a year to prevent hooks, waves and uneven teeth wear. This is performed at least ten days post foaling and before the mare is bred again, as this is the safest time to work on teeth.
Zenyatta, like all mares in foal, will have her checkup at the end of November to ensure everything is progressing as normal with the pregnancy. Fecal egg counts are performed twice a year and depending upon the results a worming and vaccinating program is established in order to keep her and her baby as healthy as possible.
The rest of her time is spent in the paddock relaxing with her friends, enjoying the green grass and nice weather.

Saw Shirlee’s post above, Shack and Take Charge Indy in the same race. OMG., Now this is hard. Love them both. Oh Gosh.

Kentucky Derby, maybe??????????????????????????????????????
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Peggy N,
Great racing over the Holiday, as you pointed out. Take Charge Indy and Shack.
I sooo very much love Shack, but Take Charge Indy and Calvin Borel, “borail” may
be too much competition. I think Take Charge Indy and Calvin would have won
the Derby had he not been injured. Calvin had him in a perfect place to come on
through the rail, or at least we could have had a great challenging stretch drive.
Shack is a lot like GOD, one speed and has a hard time with adversity, but so much grit and determination. Love that boy. Would love to see him and GOD fight it out !!!
As an aside, here is a great fox hunting prospect, Sunnyside (3/4 TB and we know that means fast/Clydesdale (means surfy) cross he is 16.3 hands, lovely light chestnut and
only $16,500. He is well trained and a great price if anyone is interested. Diane Crump has a great website for those looking for FOXHUNTING PROSPECTS.

Dear Sign,
I think Take Charge Indy might have the edge too. I don’t know there’s some pretty nice horses running in that race. Should be a good race.
Calvin though, should probably be able to get the win.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter of RN Club
Dear Peggy N,
So very much agree.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Also racing in California on Thanksgiving Day. Shakin It Up. I know I am going to lose my mind for sure now. Listen to this family tree. Midnight lute, RealQuiet, Quite American. It just keeps getting better and better. Love this family.

I meant to tell you please keep us updated on Papa Charlie.
It will be so sad I agree seeing Shackleford’s last race. I wish he would come back next year. LOL, Peggy

Shack is to run in the Clark. Is that race in Kentucky on Thanksgiving Day? I would love to see it. I hope I am home by the time the race goes off. I wish I could be there to cheer him on for his last race.

The Clark is on Friday the day after Thanksgiving, not on Thanksgiving Day. (The G2 Falls City Handicap for the ladies is on Thanksgiving.) The Clark is the 11th race of the day. First post is 12:40 p.m., so the Clark should be run in the late afternoon.

Thanks Laura J for finding the time for this race,
Would love to see Shack win, but also love Take Charge Indy.
Who ever wins, it will be an exciting race !!!!

Just checked the calendar–the estimated post time for the Clark is 5:35 p.m.

A little more emotional and can get upset a little
Easier than Zenny or maybe still a baby.

Rock Hard Ten has been sold to Korea. According to the Bloodhorse, he will be returned to the USA when his stud career is over.
Are we going to lose all of our studs out of the country? At least Ms. Paulson-Pickens has insured that he will come back home.
Sure did like that big black devil.

Keta, Thanks for the pics of Paynter. He is looking better everyday. Thanks to Mr. Zayat for spending the money for his treatment. Based on what I spend at the vet for my 2 cats, he must have put out a fortune for Paynter. Take that all you people who say owners are just out for the money and don’t care for their horses.
Blessed Thanksgiving to all and Go Shack and TCI in the Clark. Dead Heat.

Dettori Suspended ‘On Medical Grounds’
By Blood-Horse Staff Updated: Wednesday, November 21, 2012 2:11 PM
The French horse racing federation says jockey Frankie Dettori has been suspended from racing in France, based on medical grounds following a positive drug test.
Dettori, one of the world’s best known riders, tested positive for an unidentified banned substance on Sept. 16 after riding at Longchamp. The British-based jockey will not ride anywhere else or make any comment until the matter is settled.
The suspension lasts at least until Dettori’s next hearing before France Galop, which could take place within the next two weeks, spokesman Julien Pescatore said. No date has been set.
Dettori’s lawyer, Christopher Stewart-Moore, said the jockey “will not be riding anywhere” until the stewards have made their final decision.

Oh No, Not again. Orfevre has drawn outside Post #l7 for Japan Cup.
Now, I’m so sad. Didn’t want him to have to work that hard. Just right again. Jeez don’t know what to say. He’s worked I think hard in his career.
Your very much in my prayers my wonderful boy.
Wish all horses and Jockey safe trips
Max
Peggy (N). Stay positive. He can do it. Here’s an article on the race. Don’t be discouraged by the title. Orfevre is the favorite to win.

Dear Peggy N,
Posted a few article about “O” on one of the later blogs. Guess everyone is staying here to continue conversations.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Max
I’m just hoping that all this is just not to much for him. I just worry about him running so hard in the Arc and then coming right back so soon in such a far out post. Sure hope he holds up.
I wonder if Japan would allow for a horse to be back to back Horse of the Year. Don’t know so much about all of the other Japanese great horses. But, I think Orfevre is the real deal. A great Superstar. Sure hope he wins but if he doesn’t thats OK too, just hope he stays safe.
Max
Peggy. October 7 to November 25 is enough time for a horse of his calibre to recover. He came out of the Arc okay as far as we know and shipped back to Japan immediately after quarantine. Any problem is more likely to be the tiring effect of a long racing season and keeping a horse at the high competitive level. This issue however is faced by most and maybe all of the horses in that race. It looks like his loss in the Arc was just bad luck, which means that Orfevre is in for some good luck. Hooves crossed for Orfevre.
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Peggy N,
“O” did have a hard race, but Solomena (sp ?) is very tired from travel and
quarentine so she may not be much competition and this is her last race.
Seems like the other “locals” may be the most dangerous, but “O” is
the one who has won all the tiltles for Japan and HE IS THE BEST !!!
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Max
Do you think the Japan Cup would be close to 2.40am East Coast time. Of cours I will be watching a lot earlier as just love watching these races. I believe they said it would go off at 340pm Japan time. Just trying to calculate the time.
Max
Peggy. I think that the difference between the east coast and Tokyo is 14 hours, so that the race would be 1:40 am our time. Better to be on alert starting at around midnight. Are they televising it? I know that they have shown F1 races live from Japan on some sport channels.

Yes TVG is airing the Japan races that night. Soo Glad.
