Happy Friday!
We have an exciting five days of posts planned for next week. Each day, we will be announcing a new product from the Zenyatta Shop, and on Thanksgiving day we will post the Breeders’ Cup fan photo gallery. If you haven’t sent in your pictures, there is still plenty of time to do so (see here).
In the meantime, enjoy this expert answer by Charles from Lane’s End:
Q:
I would like to know what type of regular “maintenance” Zenny receives. By this I mean having teeth and feet checked and anything else that keeps her in such great shape.
Sue Werner
Moneta, Va
A:Like all the mares, Zenyatta has her feet trimmed at the start of every month. Regular visits by the farrier are very important in order to keep the feet in good shape and prevent cracks or flairs from forming. There is an old saying,”No foot, no horse,” and this is very true and especially with mares when heavily in foal.
With regards to teeth, all of the mares have their teeth floated once a year to prevent hooks, waves and uneven teeth wear. This is performed at least ten days post foaling and before the mare is bred again, as this is the safest time to work on teeth.
Zenyatta, like all mares in foal, will have her checkup at the end of November to ensure everything is progressing as normal with the pregnancy. Fecal egg counts are performed twice a year and depending upon the results a worming and vaccinating program is established in order to keep her and her baby as healthy as possible.
The rest of her time is spent in the paddock relaxing with her friends, enjoying the green grass and nice weather.

Dear Peggy N.:
Your Gabby won in a Dead Heat with Whateverworks at Calder today in the 10th Race. She went off as the even money favorite. Must have been a thrilling race to watch. Wish I can find a video of it. Did you find a way to see it? Congrats to Gabby, Whateverworks and their connections. Gabby is one talented girl. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Judy,
No I couldn’t find the race anywhere. Looked this afternoon for quite a while, but couldn’t find anything. Soo Soo proud of her. Wish so hard I could have found it.
Just love her dearly. Go Gabby………………………………………….
LOL, Peggy
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Meant to tell you too. I sure hope Papa Charlie is OK. He’ll be in my prayers
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Peggy:
Thank you for your kind wishes for Papa. I think he’ll be fine. We just have to come up with a way to prevent this from happening again. He runs in the paddock so fast at times with total joy and abandonment. We want him to be able to run and not hurt himself. Whenever there’s a deep cut like this one, it’s tough to keep clean and there’s the risk of infection so I’m hoping we can solve the problem.
I purchased three Winner’s Circle photos of Papa from Suffolk Downs and Angela was able to purchase DVD’s from Suffolk Downs of the same three Papa Charlie wins. They were $15.50 each. Maybe Calder has DVDs available of their races. I will give them a call and find out if it’s possible to purchase a DVD of Gabby’s Maiden win. I’ll let you know as soon as I have an answer. Hugs, JB
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Judy B,
Another thought regarding this “running with joy and abandonment”,
maybe he needs to be lunged before going out to the paddock or at
least twice a day to get all of the extra energy out ??? I know Angela’s time is limited, maybe you could help lunge him. It is pretty easy???
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Judy,
Yes let me know when you find out if they have a copy of Gabby’s maiden race. I would love to have one.
Peggy (N) South Georgia

McEvoy, Snowden take third Sandown Guineas
Posted by: AAP Filled in: Australian Horse Racing | 17/11/2012 at 6:30pm
Leading jockey Kerrin McEvoy and trainer Peter Snowden combined to extend their recent domination of the Group Two Sandown Guineas on Saturday.
McEvoy rode the Snowden-trained Tatra ($5.50) to a long head win over the Bart Cummings-trained favourite Lunar Rise ($5) for the jockey and trainer’s third win in the race since 2008.
Four years ago they won with Caymans and then they snared the race the following year with Kidnapped.
Snowden narrowly missed the quinella this year with Proverb steaming home for third, only a short half-head behind Lunar Rise.

Goldencents Takes Jackpot Wire-to-Wire
By Claire Novak, @BH_CNovak
Updated: Saturday, November 17, 2012 6:41 PM
Goldencents went wire-to-wire in the $1 million Delta Jackpot (gr. III) at Delta Downs Nov. 17, setting quick early fractions and responding with something more to hold off a late run from 9-5 favorite Bern Identity (VIDEO).
The juvenile son of Into Mischief became the stallion’s first stakes winner when he held by 1 3/4 lengths and finished 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.89 for owners W.C. Racing, Dave Kenney, and University of Louisville men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino’s RAP Racing. He also earned a $600,000 share of the purse and climbed to second on the list for the 2013 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) with 14 points after earning 10 for the win under the new “Road to the Kentucky Derby” qualifying system.

Love your comment about the blue and white blinkers.
Personally, I am all about performance, not as much about looks. The blinkers were very tastefully done and if she is not concentrating well, she needs them. I loved Zazu when she ran with them because when they took them off she looked sooo beautiful. Hard to hide them on a grey horse, though.

Dear Especially Horses,
Love your comment about the blue and white blinkers, how very true.
Personally, with my horses, performance/safety was the focus not concerned about how they “looked” in the “clothes”.
The horse always came first. Of course, Jethro did not like any “clothes” and the “clothes” he wore always had a conversation to go with them or some sort of an issue until it was sorted out.
Except when a person, not me, put a “hat” (one of those leather caps their ears protrude out of to protect them from hitting their head on the trailer) on Jethro when he was shipping to a show and he tore it and the halter off while in the trailer. He came out of the trailer bare faced.

Dear Judy B,
Just read your post about Charlie, clipping his heels. Does he not wear bell boots,
they don’t cost much and will stop the problem. They are for to prevent clipping???? You can buy the rubber ones with velcro, about $30 or less for 4.
They work really great !!!!
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
This is what they look like, Jethro had the basic black rubber ones that are $8.99 for 4.
He is overreaching and clipping his heels.

Causes of overreaching, he may need to be evaluated by farrier for different
shoes, may be a balance issue or conformation issues.

Dear Sign:
I left you a post about this on Page 3 of Z’ Blog “Send Us Your Breeder’s Cup Photos”. I’ll repost it here. Thank you for this suggestion. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Sign:
Asked Angela about that and it turns out she did have Charlie wear Bell Boots, but he was clipping himself higher up on the leg so she stopped using them. She has been using splint boots when she lunges or rides him. This time he gouged out a quarter size cut just above his hoof in the pastern area, so Bell Boots might have prevented this cut. She is not too keen on leaving any kind of boots on him when he’s turned out because of safety concerns with him running at full speed as he loves to do.
Some of the Dumplings suggested having the farrier make adjustments to PC’s hooves. Will run that by her tomorrow. The good news is the leg did not swell and he’s being very good when she cleans the wound and applies meds. He was lifting his leg when it first happened on Thursday, so he was hurting. Angela gave him some Bute for the pain. Really upsetting when this happened. Hopefully we can figure out what to do to prevent further clipping cuts like this one.
Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Judy B,
I hope YOUR Pappa C heals up just fine and you can figure out a solution to the problem…..I’m sure there is an answer for him. So glad you are maintaining close contact, as I said before he will always be YOUR horse to me. Hugs
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Judy B,
I reposted here as not sure if you would have seen it here. Yes, there is a risk to
having them wear anything (blanket, bell boots, or splint boots etc…) when they are turned out.
Farrier is a good idea, though not sure if it is up so high on his leg that it is a shoe issues, also a gait analysis by a vet to see what he is doing when he runs to cause it. Also a smaller paddock so he will not be able to run as hard. Glad to see that you are helping with all of these issues. Also has he been let down,
maybe thinks he is still on the track.
Dear Ann NC,
PC is sure kicking up his heels, maybe he needs to learn to crow hop !!! might be safer !!!!

Dear Pati and Keta:
Put a piece on the other blog about this (heard Bensley talking about Americain and the breeding farm in Kentucky this morning (Sunday here): Bensley had spoken with Gerry Ryan (part owner of Americain) about the Kentucky option, but no name was given, and went on to say that a deal was still pending with a stud in the Hunter region. I’m wondering if it is Coolmore, but maybe the whispers are about in your part of the world? Either way, it’s great news. Stephanie Nigge (Americain’s constant compaion) will go with him to Kentucky to settle him in, and then go between France and US for a time to help him adjust (according to Bensley). But grateful for any further information. Cheers. KathyR.
Ann NC
Kathy R.
You will come visit him, right? Glad Stephanie will be with him during his transition. So very important. Smart move!
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Kathy R,
Will keep our eyes out for Americain’s arrival, hopefully he will be shuttling down
under. However, there is NOTHING IN PRINT yet about any stud deal in the US.
I am sure bloodhorse will be on top of it as soon as a contract is official.
Since Dynaformer passed earlier this year, I am sure the US is trying to get
as many of his successful progeny here, especially the ones that have great racing records. So very interesting that Americain is so very desirous of human companionship, Dynaformer was not. Also interesting that Dynaformer did not seem to
pass on his personality, thank goodness for that.
Kathy R.
Dear Ann and Sign: Thanks for that feedback – knew I could rely on you folk! I’m just a bit surprised at the secrecy concerning the naming of the stud. Had to post a very sad piece on the other blog regarding the Snake Gully Cup and Best As Zariz – a horse I like – he was euthanized at the track. Dear Kathy R,
Here is some printed news about Americain and stud duty, nothing specific, November 10, 2012.
Article rank 10 Nov 2012Weekend Herald
Stud duties for Americain
Connections of Americain have announced preliminary breeding plans for the 2010 Melbourne Cup winner with his first stud duties to be performed in America. Part- owner Gerry Ryan said a ‘‘ large Kentucky farm’’ had shown interest in the horse and a deal was expected to be sealed in the next few weeks. Ryan said Americain would shuttle between the US and Australia with Victorian and NSW studs competing for his services.

Dear Kathy R,
We try and keep all of the information on this blog factual and not hear say.
Sometimes things slip through that have not basis in fact.
There is nothing in the US Throughbred communication network (by computer
search) that documents Americain as coming to the US to Stud in 2013.
Never fear the real news will come out and perhaps Coolmore will be the one to
stand Americain, as they are International, they seem to be buying up all of our “speed’ horses, too.
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
At least as of today.
Kathy R.
Dear Sign: I think I should clear something up – I meant no offence by my use of the word “whispers” regarding Americain’s new home – I know you folk don’t engage in gossipy stuff – it’s a word used a fair bit over here to talk about stable chat and assumptions from commentators. So I’m very sorry if I offended anyone with the remark.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter of RN Club
Dear Kathy R,
No offense taken at all.
My comment is not about the use of your
Words. It is About some from the US that are using inaccurate sources on this site To comment on gossip/here say with out factual base; sources like
Facebook, that are notoriously inaccurate. We all know the
People that speak on Facebook are not necessarily even the
Person that they say they are.
It has become more common here than in the past.
I was actually supporting your question regarding
Where Americain is going to have his stud contract,
As there is NOT one officially, yet.
Two other examples are; ” E” exercise rider commented
On “E” Facebook comments, she does not know
Who is manning the Facebook at all. Also someone commented
On Facebook that “V” is in foal to Street Cry that is not
An accurate source. Coolmore needs to make that official
Announcement.
So in other words don’t believe everything you read
On this site as some unfortunately is not true/ gossip.
Also someone came on the site last week and said
“E ” was going to be scratched completely not
Factual. We have intermittently had invaders trying
To sabotage the site with gossip, inacuracies and
untruths for attention, that is why posted links and
Articles document what is actually occurring.
Also anyone can impersonate on Twitter, as well.

The 2013 Kentucky Derby – The Initial Sweet 16
1. Power Broker (Pulpit-Shop Again, by Wild Again) Bob Baffert – How is it that I have a colt who has only won once in five starts and is coming off a 5th place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile as my top prospect for the 2013 Kentucky Derby? My answer includes several reasons. Not only did he improve with each start culminating in an overpowering score in the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes, but he also gives me every impression that he will thrive going long next year. Looks-wise, running style, and pedigree all give me a good feeling of his ability to go ten furlongs next spring, and the fact that he has already run several two-turn races is a positive. I have already drawn a big, bold line through his disappointing fifth place finish last time as he was hung way wide against the track bias, and clearly lost more ground than the five lengths in which he was beaten.

So, if smoking on campus is not allowed anywhere in the states, why do they ask me on my college form whether or not I can live with a smoker? She can’t smoke near me anyway….. Also reading some of the rules made me laugh so hard. If it has to be written, it means someone has tried it already, and it’s failed. According to the form, we can’t:
1.) Keep microwaves and refrigderators in the closets.
2.) We can’t string up festive lights on our walls.
3.) We can’t iron clothes on the wall.
4.) We can’t blast speakers with music from our windows.
5.) We can’t hang our clothing on, or swing from, the fire extinguishers over the doors.
6.) We can’t randomly exchange rooms with others (I understand the concern behind this one, but it amused me that people tried it)
7.) If you lose your key more than twice, even if you pay for the replacement of locks and the new keys, you have to leave your key in the floor monitor’s room for “safe keeping”.
8.) You are not allowed to squat in your dorm room during official vacations like Thanksgiving Break, Spring Break, Winter Break, and Summer release.
Oh, my school is going to be a fun one.
I went to the High Point Christmas parade (the one we seem to have before Thanksgiving even)! It was so badly planned this year! All the boring, advertising stuff was first, so by the time the bands and the dance crews began to walk by, almost everyone was gone! Even Santa, the last float in the parade, was telling us to go get a turkey and enjoy our Thanksgiving. X-D The wind howled the entire time, and I couldn’t feel my ears at one point! Then the “Lighting of the Tree” in front of the public library was kind of bad too. Our band got the honor of playing in front of the tree and did awesome, but the sound system for the chorus didn’t work, and you couldn’t hear them! Poor singers had to practically opera the entire performance. We applauded because it was a brave thing they did, standing up there alone. Then, the second everyone was off the parking lot and heading to their car, they turned the lights on the tree off. LOL Oh, High Point, Ba Hum Bug apparently.
I got a report on parenting due on Monday, and to spite me, our teacher didn’t give us a page limit, fully knowing that it would drive me nuts. Just to return the favor, I might type fifteen pages, and turn them in. >:-)

Nice to know that they are fan sensitive & do answer e-mails.
Sounds like you have one foot in high school and one foot in college.
Busy but exciting times for you.
Hugs,
Keta
P.S. Loved the photo you posted earlier. Congratulations!!

Pati:
Congrats on your acceptance to the college of your choice! So does this mean Zenny will have a full brother or sister if all of this is true? Wouldn’t that be something to keep an eye on!
Wait to you come down from that sugar high of yours!

Pati- Can't wait for Breeders' Cup!!
Mama Keta,
Yes, I am, and I’m very much regretting all that suagr now. AH….I wish my metabolism was what it used to be. I would just run around my building complex for ten minutes non-stop, and the energy would go down even a bit. Now…not so much.
Madame Saratoga,
This is what the responder has told me. You can choose to believe it now, or we can wait until about March 15th ish, give or take a few days, and find out then. That is entirely up to you.
Thanks for the congratulations. I was really really excited when I got that acceptance letter. I held it in my hand, and I couldn’t believe they actually accepted me! I wanted so badly to get in, so my parents and Z family could be proud of me. I didn’t want my Z family to feel bad, and I certainly didn’t want to let down my mom. It was a living h**l those forty days I had to wait. I would get nightmares about not being accepted, and would run to school to check my GPA and class ranking to make sure they were in good standings. Well, I got my 4ish GPA, and 40th, I think, in my class out of 294, and apparently, it was enough. Phew!!

DEAR GS,
THERE IS ONLY HEAR SAY ABOUT A BREEDING BETWEEN “V” AND
STREET CRY. NO FORMAL WRITTEN ANNOUNCEMENT HAS BEEN
MADE BY DARLEY OR COOLMORE.
WE HAVE DEVELOPED THIS BLOG TO TRANSEND ” RUMORS AND GOSSIP” BY POSTING LINKS/ARTICLES/VIDEOS OF THE ISSUES WE DISCUSS AND EMPHASIZE ACCURACY.
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
SORRY PATI,
AN ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT “V” IN FOAL TO STREET CRY NEEDS TO COME IN
WRITING FROM DARLEY OR COOLMORE. AND THEIR IS NOTHING LIKE THAT PUBLISHED ANYWHERE.
A HEAR SAY CONVERSATION/E-MAIL IS NOT ADEQUATE !!!!!
Pati- Excited for E!!
Ok, then we wait until foaling season I guess. It’s not forcing people to believe anything, it’s just what I got back.
Max
Pati. Thanks for the info about V and Street Cry. And congrats on your acceptance to college. Don’t worry too much about the dorm rules. It will all work out for you.
Pati- Excited for E!!
@Max
I’m really excited to be going. It’s my dream school!
Not to be nosy, but where have you been? Or was it me that was gone for a while? Anyway, I missed your insightful posts! Have you seen or heard from Terry? Has anyone heard from Terry? I miss him…
Max
Pati. I’m still here. I never went anywhere. I also miss Terry C. Still hoping for those talking horse jokes. If anyone knows any talking horse jokes, please post them.
Pati- Excited for E!!
If we google “talking horse jokes” we might get something good.
I have a laughing squeazy horse.

“Vertigineux and Street Cry to have foal in 2013.
This will be the first full brother or sister to Zenyatta.”
This was posted on Street Cry’s Facebook page, as I posted about a week ago here, on another Blog page. It has not been posted on Vertigineux’s Facebook page, however, although her fans are asking & talking about it. No news-media reports, either. But also discussed & reported in our own Forum here, for a couple of months.
So it’s unconfirmed, but exciting, if it proves true. Just have to wait and see, if and when.
Pati- Excited for E!!
I imagine Coolmore is getting a huge influx of fan mail asking about it. They might post it in time to stop having to answer the same question four million times. Lol
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Vicki B,
We don’t know who actually is the person who represents Street Cry,
it can be anyone. A quote from “E’s” exercise rider about her Facebook page, we have no idea who is writing that facebook page for “E”.
We need to hear this information officially from Coolmore and or Darely written.
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Sorry Pati, neither Coolmore nor Darley do much with fans as Peggy N has said previously on their visits.
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Vicki B,
That thread in the forum was all based on here say as well.
No one know and no one will know until Darley or Coolmore
make an official written announcement.
Missed having a sample of your grapes, guess they are done growing now. Went to a patients home a couple of weeks ago and they had a wonderful lemon tree. The skin on the lemon was very thin and they were so good.
Go me thinking about your wonderful grapes, were you able to make jelly?
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Yes, Sign, it’s hearsay, but it’s also possible that Street Cry’s FB page is a legitimate source — we just don’t know. But I’m not worried about that, I’m more excited that it might be true! We will find out eventually, for sure.
And no jelly, sign. As mentioned before, I was unable to pick very much of them this year, because of my knee injury. But I did get some small amount into the freezer, for adding to smoothies over the winter.

Go Calvin, I just love him, he’s one of my favorite jockey’s! I have a tendency to bet on any horse he rides! It has paid off in the past quite nicely!
Hope things are becoming a little easier for you daughter?
Sending good thoughts her way

Dear GS,
Love Calvin B, too. He had about 7 mounts today and getting to 5,000 can be so elusive. Hope we see more of him this year. He is such a kind and caring man
and loved Rachel Alexandra and Rachel, the little girl with cancer, who watched
RA win the Kentucky Oaks and Preakness. Such a heart warming story.
Keta
GirlSaratoga,
Happily things are back to normal in her area.
One of the biggest problems after getting electricity back on was getting gas.
That seems to be resolved for now.
One of the main worries (after daughter) was the horses. All are fine.
Thank you for your caring & concern
Hugs,

Answer from
@furlongdrive tweet to @sidfernando @jenroytz
don’t know, a follow up tweet didn’t say other then a KY stud.
Maybe Darley or WinStar?
Keta Note: WinStar just built a magnificient stallion barn. Posted story and link earlier.
Americain is not listed as a WinStar stallion–yet.

Dear Keta,
As you posted the Twitter is not naming any specific farm.
So there has been no formal announcement as
twitter says just kentucky. Maybe it will be posted tomorrow.
Becareful if you google Kentucky Stud, you man be a bit embarassed.
The Winstar farm “redo” is gorgeous, although he should be shuttling
to Australia and Winstar does not yet have an international program, maybe Coolmore or Darley. Nothing on either Coolmore or Darley website, tonight.

To avoid the many male possibilities of Kentucky Stud, I use
Kentucky Stud horse or Stud + horse
when I Google. Adding horse does help.
I also do that whan I Google a horse name–example

It helps filter the answers

Thanks for posting the 2 video’s above , the one of QE2 and the Zenyatta 2012 party! That Ebby sure is one gorgeous filly! The party looked like alot of fun, I like the man wearing the Zenyatta shirt, he looked like he was having a blast!
Well Dumplings my weary traveler is home, she had a GREAT time! It was a long trip for such a short time, but worth it! She can’t believe how beautiful Alaska is, especially the mountains. Although she did say it was very cold there! I am thankful she made it there and back with no glitches! I may actually sleep through the night in 5 days! She said she took alot of pictures, so I can’t wait to see them! (I am most interested in the pics of the gala she attended!)
Thanks to all for your kind thoughts and good wishes for safe travel
Lots of Hugs to all

Dear GS,
So very glad your daughter enjoyed her trip to Alaska, made it back safely and
has some wonderful photos to share.
The airlines are sooo very accomodating to first time travelers or people with special needs, elderly etc…. My mother moved to Texas from Ohio and flew here by plane
after have a significant stroke, everyone on the airlines was soooo very accomodating and helpful. I felt sure they would “take good care of your daughter”.
So glad you will get some rest after the long ordeal.

We are so glad she had such a great time. I know you can’t wait to see all the pictures. Thanks for letting us know that all is well. Hugs.

Karen,
Thank you so much for another one of your absolutely terrific “just like we were there” videos!!! Those of us watching on TVG heard you all screaming, but this “up close” version was even better. Great shots (and it wasn’t too dark to see in the paddock) and great photos from your sources!! Can’t wait til the next time.

Eblouissante is pointing towards an allowance race at the end of the Hollywood meet, which closes Dec. 16, or at the Santa Anita winter-spring meet that opens 10 days later. Kronfeld, who lives in New York, plans on flying to California for all of the filly’s races.
“I may have to move here,” he said
Mr. Kronfeld you better get used to the Traveling Dumplings in red, white & blue :-D
