Happy Friday!
We have an exciting five days of posts planned for next week. Each day, we will be announcing a new product from the Zenyatta Shop, and on Thanksgiving day we will post the Breeders’ Cup fan photo gallery. If you haven’t sent in your pictures, there is still plenty of time to do so (see here).
In the meantime, enjoy this expert answer by Charles from Lane’s End:
Q:
I would like to know what type of regular “maintenance” Zenny receives. By this I mean having teeth and feet checked and anything else that keeps her in such great shape.
Sue Werner
Moneta, Va
A:Like all the mares, Zenyatta has her feet trimmed at the start of every month. Regular visits by the farrier are very important in order to keep the feet in good shape and prevent cracks or flairs from forming. There is an old saying,”No foot, no horse,” and this is very true and especially with mares when heavily in foal.
With regards to teeth, all of the mares have their teeth floated once a year to prevent hooks, waves and uneven teeth wear. This is performed at least ten days post foaling and before the mare is bred again, as this is the safest time to work on teeth.
Zenyatta, like all mares in foal, will have her checkup at the end of November to ensure everything is progressing as normal with the pregnancy. Fecal egg counts are performed twice a year and depending upon the results a worming and vaccinating program is established in order to keep her and her baby as healthy as possible.
The rest of her time is spent in the paddock relaxing with her friends, enjoying the green grass and nice weather.

Yes, when she got to the stretch and turned it on I just about lost my voice!!!lol! A wonderful race (dazzeling!) and a good ride by Corey!! It won’t be long before everyone can pronounce her name. Loved it!
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Maryp ny,
Did you know “E’s” name in french means “Dazzeling”?
maryann lane
So wonderful that Ebby won! Reminded of her big Sis’s stretch runs. I am so glad that Mr. Sherriffs allowed to take her time and tell him when she was ready, just like Queen Z. I predict great success for E.
Ingrid Arnone
Yes she was so great, but Zenny for me is number one.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Ingrid:
I know what you mean. Z will always be so special to all of us. It was great fun to see Ebby come from behind so like Z. Hope she has Zs’ soundness and she will be a force to be reckoned with in her own right. Hugs, JB

OMG!!!! How exciting!!!! BRAVO Ebby!!! And how nice of John et al. to invite the Dumpling gang into the winner’s circle. i saw Karen G for sure and JAG (I think). This seems like the beginning of while new era.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sandy:
Ebby was sensational. I picked JAG out wiping tears from her eyes. Wonderful that JS invited the Dumplings into the Winner’s Circle. Classy guy. Hugs, JB
Sharon Atlanta
My first smile of the day. I logged into Calracing just as they were loading in the gate. Ebby ran just like her big sister – come from way behind, get clear on the outside and burn the track up!!! I know John is smiling from ear-to-ear and wondering just what he has on his hands now. Since she beat the Mosses horse, I’m wondering if they wished they owned her. She looked great!
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Sharon,
Not possible for The Mosses to own “E”. She was never put up for sale.
“V” was in foal with her when sold to Coolmore for $10 million. Part of the
deal, Eric Kronfeld made with Coolmore was he was to keep the Bernardini foal “V” was carrying. And that was “E”. She will be replacing “V” in Kronfeld’s broodmare band when she is done racing.
This man is a genius breeder !!!! He has created a wonderful family.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sharon C.:
E was just brilliant! Hugs, JB
Gloria
Thanks for the update. And congrats to “Zenyatta’s little sister”, Eblouissante on winning her first race today at Hollywood Park. Here’s to hoping she stays healthy and remains unbeaten!!
suew/Va
And success in mama V’s girls continues. Exciting since Bernie is her papa. Look out 12Z is a comin (in a few years).

Just watched “E” win her maiden on Calracing. If anyone is intersted, easy to sign up, quick few minutes and you are in and can watch live racing and replays.
Great Great Great site !!!!
She actually came from back of the pack a little different from Zenny, but seem to have a nice turn of foot. Initially 8 lengths behing the leaders and In the last furlong with the whip she rebroke and won. Great ride by Corey Nackatani !!!!!
WHOO HOOO Zenny, your little sis is pretty good and your breeder is a genius and your mom, “V” is some producer. Hope you are too !!!!

Thanks for the replay that is so good.

Eblouissante Post Race Tweets
Breeders’ Cup tweet: Zenyatta’s baby sis, Eblouissante, wins her debut by 4 lengths!
Congratulations to John Sherriffs
Ray Paulick tweet: Let the hype begin: Zenyatta 1/2 sis Eblouissante (Bernardini) rallies from far back to blow away maidens. Boy, was I wrong
Steve Andersen DRF tweet: Eblouissante did it. Zenyatta’s little half-sister ralliled from seventh to win her debut. There is a buzz about this place. #hollywood
Harris D. Auerbach tweet: Speechless.
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Interesting Ray Paulick admits he was wrong, but who knew. She did need blinkers
so is a little more laid back and less focused than Zenny, but a very nice race and a
wonderful talent.
CONGRADULATIONS TO ERIC KRONFELD WHO HAS THE NACK FOR BREEDING
GREAT RACE HORSES. YOU ARE A GENIUS.
Keta
Sign,
You are so right in this Congratulations!
Keta
Sue Fredrick - Wisconsin- Elated
I agree, though I wonder if he has any regrets after today for selling the fabulous mama V. Ebby is just stunning. Hugs
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sue Fredricks:
I also wonder the same thing. Hugs, JB
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sign:
I noted that E raced with Lasix too. For me, if JS thinks it’s the right thing to do for the horse, than there is no doubt in my mind. He’s one trainer that we know always puts the horses welfare first. Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Well said. Mark Casse who trains horses for Lane’s End supports its use when needed. He’s a reputable trainer too. Sure hope Little Zenyatta will recover.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Me too. Hugs, JB
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Judy B,
Actually it was announced that she would NOT be racing with Lasix?
Did that change? I thought Eric Kronfeld was going to have her
race without for the possible breeding issues.
As long as trainers keep up with fluid and weight loss and symptoms of dehydration in their horses, it is not a problem. Just like any human taking
Lasix, they can lose too much water and get dehydrated and lose weight.
Healthy horses should be able replace their own the fluid loss with a few extra buckets of water and they will be thirsty if they are “behind in fluid”.
The problem comes when they lose, too much weight and don’t feel well after. Bill Casner did a great kind of “study” at Winstar, when he was there.
He weighted the horses and monitored how they tolerated Lasix and if they
did not he did not use it.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sign and Z Fans:
Here’s the result chart and it indicates “L” for Lasix was used. I think it’s a good thing. Hugs, JB
http://www.equibase.com/static/chart/pdf/BHP111612USA4.pdf
Max
JudyB. I just noticed from your chart that all of the other horses had raced at least once before. I was unaware that E was the only one who was racing for the very first time. She looked like a real pro out there against these more experienced fillies, especially how she ran calmly from behind with that turn of foot. The girl’s definitely got innate talent from V and Bernie.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max and Z Fans:
What a great trainer JS is. He gave Ebby all the time she needed and it really paid off. She has talent, no doubt. She did look like a pro out there. Hugs, JB
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Thanks Judy for the chart, guess they changed their minds.
I guess it is a mute point for her as she is not 2 years old.
They are restricting the 2 year olds from using Lasix, I guess maybe
only in the Breeders Cup though???
Max
JudyB. The Mosses’ filly, Belonging, came in 4th but she still ran rather well. She’s a very nice looking filly. Great blaze.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sign and Z Fans:
I guess JS and Ebby’s connections decided to go with it if it helps the horse. Hugs, JB
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
My sister and I went to our local casino where Ebby’s race was simulcast and I played an Exacta Box with Ebby and Belonging. I thought B finished well. She is a very pretty filly and I love her name. She was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Moss as well. Hugs, JB

So reminiscent of Z! Great fun to watch. Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Very like Z. Hope she continues to have this kind of success.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
I think if she has Z’s soundness, she will do well. Was so wonderful to see her run today. Deja vu all over again (to quote Yogi Berra). Found myself getting a little teary eyed. Hugs, JB

Paynter Update Friday Nov. 16 2012 Alex Brown tweets

Keta. Paynter is incredible. Looks first class.

sheena.davies(wales)
dear sign soooo happy for ebby just like her big sis coming from behind such memories!! lovely pic of Zenyatta in her paddock looking forward to the blogs next week hugs sheena
signofthetimes; President of the Texas RN Club
Dear Sheena,
So glad you enjoyed the videos of “E” race and Corey did a great job riding her.
Did not realize that he had been working her as well. What a lovely filly, she is
not Zenny, but she sure has some talent.
Maybe they should put her on the TURF with her turn of foot, HA HA HA !!!
She does have turf in her pedigree.
Maryp ny
It’s so good to see Zenyatta enjoying life in her paddock and thank you Charles for answering Sue’s question telling us how you keep her in good health and happiness. Ann and Jerry Moss knew just the right place for their great mare. Thank you.
celeste
Interesting news about Zenyatta. Very exciting race for Eblouissante! WOW!
Allen
Thanks for the update Charles,Lanes End you are the best. Way to go Ebby, I bet Zenny is doing her dance as we speak.
Perky Green
Congrats to Little Sis Ebby She looked fabulous winning. She is so like her Big Sis. There is something very Regal about this Bloodline. Hard to wait for our Baby Boy to begin his trip to the races.
sue and tony
You are so right…this bloodline is all about class and talent. We have a feeling Zenny’s offspring will make a big splash in the racing world like his mom and auntie.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Perky Green, Tony, Sue and Z Fans:
Really exciting to think about the talent The Prince might have inherited. What a spectacular family they are. When you look at Ebby’s win today with the bloodlines from Vertigineux and Bernardini, makes you realize just how royally bred The Prince really is and the potential he may have to be an outstanding race horse. No matter how things turn out, he’s one special boy. Love and Hugs, JB
Shari Voltz from Ohio
Dear Zenyatta I wanted to tell you that I introduced my Homerooms to your half sister. They all agreed that Ebloiussante will be their next horse. Oh these children are learning all about racehorses. They love the excitement. Ebby reminds us so much of you. I also showed them You running with Mike and the camera on the helmet. You should have heard what they were saying. Lady You were one FAST Horse. We all LOVE you Queen Zenyatta. FOREVER and EVER. HUGS and Many KISSES, Shari and Homeroom 215-217
Sue Fl CPRC
You guy will have an interesting 2013. Baby Z 13 will be arriving in March ish. Plus we all get to follow Ebby on her quest. I hope the kids enjoy the spring racing. It always has a twist and a new face. I love horse racing and Zenyatta will always be my favorite. Good luck kids in homeroom 215-217.
Pati- So Happy from BC!!
And then we can all look forward to Baby Z12 racing in 2015!!
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Mrs. Voltz and Children:
Wish every child could have as much fun in class as you do. Hugs, JB
