Q:
Hello! I know everyone will have horse related questions, so my question will be about the barn cats at Lane’s End. Does Zenny have a favorite cat friend?
Kelly Mullin

A:
Zenny does have a cat friend! This is Mr. Scraggles, who has been her buddy since she moved to the new barn with 12 Zenyatta. He’s pictured here cuddling up with Alys right outside of Z’s paddock.
Fun facts about Mr. Scraggles:
- He’s the best mouser on the farm, but he doesn’t like to get his feet wet.
- He’s very social kitty and comes when he’s called.
- He is partial to a good tummy scratch.
- On cold days you will find him in the tack room snoozing on the barn laundry.

@Heidi K.–Oh, dear girl, I can feel your alarm, and with good cause. Will be praying for you and your family–that you will be able to be in touch soon. Hugs.

Heidi,
My prayers are with you. Hope your sister is OK.

Thank you for the understanding. I just talked to my sister and she seems fine, just extremely constipated from all the different meds. Her Doctor is going to slowly wean her off of them and try something different. She’s scheduled for an ultrasound and a visit to the chiropractor. So, we’ll see.

Good Morning All,
Have had a very long, busy and stressful week. Was only in and out of the blog but I think I have read and kept up with most of the posts.
Arlene in Vermont. Hope your birthday was great. Your beautiful state is one I still need to visit and am looking forward too, someday.
Welcome to all the new members of the Redneck club. We are certainly growing. Look out world, we are taking over. Haha.
When I was watching videos of Frankel on facebook, I was blown away. He made me think he is Secretariot reincarnated. Instead of a heart, I think he has a turbo charger! Amazing and beautiful!!
Dearest Zenyatta, it is great fun and excitement to get behind and excited and love other thoroughbreds, but You will always be number 1 in my heart. Love you forever my angel.
Team Z, thank you for all you share with us and for keeping this blog going. I love it!
Have a great and safe weekend everyone.
Love to All

Here is a treat for pedigree fans and fans of Union Rags. Let us hope that he gets the chance later this summer to continue to show how good that he is. Go Rags.

I think it is a black eye on U.S. breeding/racing that they allow a horse with such heart to leave the country, or is no one intrested because he didn’t finish out the triple crown series? Shame!
Snoprinz
I agree with you AZ Gal. This is the part of horse racing/breeding that I don’t like. Once the horse does not produce anymore $$$, then nobody cares anymore. I hope that IHA does not end up in a slaughterhouse in Japan once his stud duties are over.

NEW POST ALERT!!! I’m certainly never one to complain about new pictures and announcements about our Z and baby Z, but we sure are going to have to keep our wits about us to keep up (or know which page to refresh). Anyhow, there is a new post under “news” with lots of comments already if you’re wondering where everyone is!

Thanks, Sandy!

I was wondering if it will be difficult for Z to carry another baby soon after delivering her first one. I realize the business side of this, and you can only get one foal a year, whereas a stallion can cover many mares and looks no worse for wear.
I know you folks know what you are doing, but could you explain to me that it isn’t bad for Miss Z to be “in foal” so shortly after giving birth….
Thanks,

I am not a Lanes End expert but it is normal for a mare to be covered every year. they can be bred again after giving birth. Because she miscarried the first time and was bred later I am wondering if one year they will not breed her so the baby wont be too young.

some talk of this in earlier blogs….but breeding each yr is normal…and if she should need a rest… nature will give her one…she is well and healthy and extremely well cared for…another thing that has been mentioned is that “skipping a yr” will occasionally lead to infertility problems and cause the mare to have difficulty conceiving when eventually breed…i am just passing on previous info…but in the end i just look at her…Zenny is so very obviously happy and loved and seems to have embraced her new live with gusto…and a final thought….the Mosses patently love her so much it leaps out of the pictures at you…they would never ever under any circumstances to anything that might cause her harm…i thank the lord for their unending generosity in sharing this new aspect of her life with us…

I’m so afraid that baby Z will be traumatized when he’s taken away from his Mommy, They love each other so much., Where will he go and will he be near his Mom? I know I’m speaking from my heart and not my head but it still concerns me,
