Dear Friends,
Wow! I am so deeply, deeply touched with all of your kind comments in relation to my racing retirement. You are so kind! I can’t THANK YOU enough!
I have loved racing and being at the barn. It has been a very special 4 1/2 years now that I have been with John, Mario, Steve, Carmen and the crew at the Shirreffs’ barn every single day. As all of you know…this along with Ann and Jerry Moss…is my family.
The beauty of my going back to Kentucky and Lane’s End…is DAVID lives in Lexington. I’ve also known him since I was a yearling at the September Sale. From that moment when he signed the ticket to purchase me on behalf of the Moss’, I’ve had a blessed life. David is part of Team Zenyatta and is also family. I will be leaving John’s barn…but going to Lane’s End where I will also have family around me. Lane’s End is a beautiful farm where I will be able to graze, stand under gorgeous trees, and enjoy life every single day! And one day, I hope to be a loving and wonderful MOM! What more could one ask!
My dear friend, Life is Sweet is also at Lane’s End! I have not seen her since February. We have so much to catch up on when I get there. This is too much fun!
David’s assistant, Sarah, will be able to take lots of pictures of me to send to CA and to put on the web-site. We will try to keep you posted on everything.
Yeah, here’s some good news! I will be able to visit with fans on Sunday, December 5th, at Hollywood Park. The track is doing a ‘fun farewell get-together’ for me! I am so excited. When I find out other details about this, I will update you. Hope you can attend!
Again…thank you all so much for the loving, tender notes. I am such a fortunate horse to have so many people who truly care so much about me.
Hugs to you all~
With Love,
Z

Can’t wait to see you everyday Z!! We will have lots of photo shoots at LEF! and lots of carrot sessions with Life is Sweet!! :) Enjoy your party at HOLLYWOOD and SAFE TRIP!! See you soon :)

Z – Tell Dottie that your race card is incorrect for the 2009 Breeder’s Cup Classic. It shows the 2008 Ladies Classic instead. You want the credit for beating all those boys right.

Zen,
Why are u going to Lane’s End when u could have had me instead?

Dear Zenyatta: I saw your 18th race at the Del Mar. I traveled all the way from NJ just to see you and see you race. How exciting it was! You were and are absolutely awesome! I hope I have another chance to see you again on December 5th. With so much love and all the best to you as you begin your retirement. You are a race horse of a lifetime! Congratulations on your retirement Zenyatta. You’re the best and deserve the best. Can’t wait to visit you in Kentucky! Hope to see you and the offspring! Safe travels to your new home.

I will still always hope that some of your life will be back with the Mosses on a California ranch after you’ve had some of your babies (how unrealistic is that?). What’s so tough is knowing how much you loved to race, and how much you loved the crowd and responded to us. I hope you don’t lose that chance to interact with lots of people at Lane’s End because I think it will be vital to your happiness. Take care “big girl”, and much love for the future.
Karen
Oh Zenyatta… where to begin… Thanks for the memories. You are the first horse I have seriously followed since Secretariat. To me.. he is the King and you are the Queen of racing. I hope your fans will get to visit you in Kentucky. It isn’t often in life that one gets to be in the presence of such a brave, yet gentle spirit. All my love, Karen

Lady Z — who’s going to sleep with you each night in your stall? who’s going to make sure you are not lonely? Will David visit you every day to make sure you are treated properly and correctly/
and will Jerry and Ann and john and Stev and Carmen and Mario come by amny old time they wanto to?
I HOPE SO! and for us, lovng devoted fans of yours, we want to know that your presence can still be shared by us, of we make the pilgrimage — within reason of course, but in keeping with all that has surrounded you and us in your heretofore life and career worldwide

Zenyatta—I am so happy for you to be retiring healthy and sound. And how we will all anticipate the coming of those babies! I think that one day you will be out in your perfect pasture with your beautiful baby and all your friends–and they will bring a new lady in with her lovely foal. And you will graze together, and swish flies off of each other, and frolic together, your foals will play together and when visitors come you will run to greet them together. And people like me will chuckle that finally Zenyatta and Rachel met! Oh, and keep yourself warm back there.

So glad to hear you will have such a good family in Kentucky!
I will see you on December 5th and maybe before that, too.

To our precious Zenyatta and her family who gave her her wings, how can I begin to thank you for sharing her with us the way you have. It is a particularly hurting world right now. Her effort and grace took my breath away, and was perfectly timed to give me courage and hope when I needed it so badly. Her presence is oddly healing, for whatever reason. One thing I do know: God is all over her. And with her. So, thanks is hardly adequate. Meeting her was something I’ll carry with me my whole life. I can’t wait to tell my grandchildren about the great Zenyatta. Letting her go now. She’ll think she’s died and gone to heaven at Lanes End. See you on the 5th.

Tell your new family at Lane’s End that you need time to get acclimatized to your new surroundings. And you don’t need to be rushed into Motherhood either. Your fans, me included, would love to visit you sometime so Lane’s End must find a way to accommodate us.
Anita Carville
Dear Zenny… I have your picture from W Magazine right on my bulletin board at work. I draw such strength from looking at you, especially your beautiful eyes. i wish I could meet you up close in person. i am praying for that. Thank you for your post. It is so comforting to know you will be with another part of your family. And it is so nice of your people to help us keep in touch with you. i can’t wait til Dec 5, or, maybe, with God’s help, I might be able to meet you before then. Thank you so much for being you. I love you, Zenny.

So, you are making her into a broodmare…baby after baby, year after year…the greedy ones paying tons of money wishing for a horse like her — one that, looking at history, will not come about, if one looks at the great ones, for another 30 years…unless the thoroughbred establishment (like the Hunter/Jumpers) starts cloning…and even that is not a sure thing. I hope she is happy….like Lady’s Secret, who died in her 20’s, after a horrific foaling , gone terribly wrong. But, after all, isn’t this what the racing industry is all about? Perhaps I am wrong….I so hope I am…and please, forgive me, if I am.Team Z has taken such good care of Zenyatta – I guess I am cynical…..
Rebecca
I have no doubt the Moss’s and Team Z will make sure you’re happy. KY is beautiful. Will see you Dec. 5 :)
Susan
To Zenyatta and her family, thank you for sharing such an amazing racing career with all of us. Wishing you the very best future back in Kentucky. You are one of the Greats in thoroughbred history and I feel privileged to have witnessed such a career as yours. There is nothing I can say which has not already been said. To all those who have surrounded Zenyatta with their love and care, thank you. And Zenyatta, Thank You. Susan

How cute are you!!, you adorable sweet-hocks!!! I’m so happy for you. I love reading everything about you.
Cheers to a new chapter in your life, and I’m thrilled to watch it unfold. Your amazing talents match your awesome personality. I wish you complete happiness as you DANCE into your new journey.
I’m 30 mins from H.Park, so I will again see you at your retirement party.
… Peace, and Love and Hugs …

I hope someone from your family checks up on you every single day. We all know that Jerry, Ann, John and Mario love you very much and always did what was best for you. We don’t know the people at Lanes End and worry that they will not treat you with the love and respect you deserve. Be happy and safe. I refuse to find a way to say good-bye to you because you will always be in my heart.
Pat Gauvreau
Thanks for the breath taking memories. I wish you happiness in your life at the farm and many trouble free deliveries of healthy babies. Thanks for the website so we can keep in touch.
Leslie
Zenyatta, you deserve a happy retirement. I’ve seen pictures of Lane’s End and it looks lovely. I’m glad you’ll be enjoying life everyday and I’m sure you’ll love grazing and standing under those beautiful trees. Having David there with you will be wonderful. I was worried that you wouldn’t have any family members with you.
It is great that Sarah will take lots of pictures of you. I would be very sad if we didn’t continue to get updates on your new life.
I look forward to seeing you on Dec. 5th! It is going to be a joyous celebration!
Thanks to Team Z for everything! It is very generous of you to continue to share Zenyatta with her many fans. Zenyatta has been an inspiration to me and I just wish my dad had lived long enough to see her win the 2009 Breeder’s Cup Classic.
Love you Zenyatta,
Leslie

Z, you are a very fortunate girl!! You will have David, who saw YOU, a diamond in the rough, when you were just a wee little girl. He knew YOU from the start. He will be there to visit you and bring you some goodies. Sarah sounds like a kind soul, too, and will hopefully share her pictures with all who love you. You will be missed by many here in California. But you have a new adventure to begin. Adventures are always fun and keep life interesting. My best wishes to you and yours always.
Cate
Lady Z,
We are sad to see you go but happy knowing that you are healthy and going to a beautiful home. I hear Spring is awesome there. You can see all the flowers blooming and new babies arrive. You can be an aunt first to Life is Sweet’s foal. Just let them know how to dance and everything will be OK. You will be surrounded by love and family.

Ms Zenyatta, Good Morning to you. Will your Fun Farewell be televised on one of the racing stations, or ESPN? Please let me know, I am in TX and will not be able to attend, wish I could. Since Life is Sweet is at Lane’s End, I am sure it is John that recommended this retirement villa. In this case, I know it is ok, checked it out of the website and it is very beautiful. Remember only two babies, one girl and one boy, do not ruin that beautiful body of yours. I am glad that you have David, smart man. I am also glad to here about Sarah. Extremely glad that your team realize how much you mean to us and will keep us up to date on your daily life forever. Talk with you later, Beautiful Lady. Lisa g

Team Zenyatta, I know Lane’s End is beautiful and all, but how can the Moss’ let you go? Zenyatta is their pride and joy, and they are just shipping her off. California has beautiful ranches, please explain as I am having a difficult time with this. Thank you for everything you have done, Team Zenyattta is her REAL family. Lisa g
Eve
Zenyatta, I saw all of your races, and you are the best horse ever. I appreciate all you have done for racing, and I hope you enjoy being a MOM. By the way, my Mom just passed away and reading about you is a comfort to me. Your racing should be an inspiration to many, “from last to first, always.” Love ya, EK

Zenyatta – you are deeply loved, now and always!
