HAPPY SATURDAY!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. There is some great racing going on around the country today and March Madness continues to be very exciting. So many last minute shots and 3 pointers really change the outcome of a game so quickly. Look at the local Kentucky teams. Louisville lost in the last few moments the other evening and the University of Kentucky secured their win in the final seconds. That is like MY SPORT. A PHOTO FINISH going one way or another or the BOB of a head can be the difference between winning and losing. I guess that is why SPORTING ACTIVITIES are so THRILLING. Every move counts!
Last week when my jockey, MIKE, was going to ride in Arkansas at Oaklawn Park, he called Dottie to mention the huge BILLBOARD he saw with US on it. John contacted his friends at that race track and was able to get a photo of it for ALL OF US to see! Mike’s right…it does LOOK IMPRESSIVE! WIN CITY! I like that thought!
Additionally, I wanted to THANK ALL OF YOU who have been asking about how I am doing in your DIARY responses. I am doing extremely well…and am having SO MUCH FUN! I have been out ‘romping in the paddock’ with my friends every day. We are truly having a great time. We absolutely love it when the wind blows just enough to make it FUN. Sometimes, it feels like the breezes are tickling my coat. When this happens, my friends and I put up our tails and gallop around the field together truly appreciating the outdoors, the wind, and each other. Such special moments!
I’m also enjoying my normal daily routine and all of favorite foods. This week, in addition to bananas and pears, I have been having a special craving for peppermints. I’ve figured out something very special about them. Not only do peppermints TASTE GREAT…but, the other fabulous thing is that my guys here can carry lots and lots of them around in their pockets at all times. That makes them very HANDY and ACCESSIBLE. Thus, every time I nod to one of them, cuddle up, or come to the front of my stall for a pat or a photo …all they have to do is reach in their pockets and VOILA…A TREAT FOR ME! Now, this is TOO CUTE!
Have a fabulous Saturday and Sunday!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

What a terrific billboard with Mike on your back, brings back memories of your racing days. I’m glad you’re following March Madness. It’s exciting just like your sport if I may say so. Enjoy your weekend and your bananas and peppermints. I’m looking forward to the next post. Take care Zenny.

Hooray for Jordanelle….she won her race today with Chantal aboard!!! Chantal even smiled and popped her bowtie as if to say, I can’t help but win, look whose colors (Zenyatta’s) I’m wearing! Well I hope everyone is doing well, got to go to bed now.

@Mary M. Meek – Thank you for sharing that touching photo of you with Queen Z — it seems it was a blissful encounter on both sides! Too cute!

Zenyatta, Zenyatta, Zenyatta! There’s more than just college basketball playoffs happening at the moment. I don’t follow basketball, my sport is hockey. Right now, the Alaska Aces of the ECHL have won their division (Mountain) and are in first place in the entire league. The team’s “magic number” to win the conference and secure a first round bye is seven. There are only seven games left in the season. Playoffs begin in early April. The AHL and NHL are winding down their seasons, too. Their playoffs begin in mid April. There’s nothing like speed and skill on ice. It’s kinda like with you….speed on dirt!

Good Morning Zenyatta,
Thanks for sharing that billboard. How awesome is that? You are on two billboards and not many race horses can say that! Tben again, we haven’t seen one like you in a long time.
I was so happy to see your colors in the winners circle yesterday on tv. I noticed the same thing, Valerie. Chantal twicked that bow tie as you said, to tell everyone…Look! Zenyatta’s colors! Whatever reason she did that… we have our own idea. ha! It’s all about Zenyatta and we KNOW that because we think so too!
Zenyatta, you have a poster in another magazine. “Horse Illustrated”. Of course I had to purcchase it. One cannot have enough of your photos or posters.
Have a great day! Loved your stall photo too in your previous entry. Mr. Moss looked so proud but probably would love to have you standing next to him. In his heart, you were.
Oh, by the way, I am from the town that Jimmer Fredette grew up. So please root for BYU.

I was reading some comments about whether or not people would get to see you at Lanes End and it got me thinking – you need to be very careful now, now big excitements or situations that might cause stress and there are a lot of other good horses at Lanes End who are in the same condition or who need their peace and quiet. I think the Lanes End staff are quite honorable for remembering the needs of their horses – I am sure they are perfectly aware of the money they could reap in from selling tickets at the door, but that would not necessarily be very good for the horses. When you had fans all around you were at the track, etc where it was customary – not at a quiet horse farm where new foals are coming into the world. I just want you to be taken care of and spoiled spoiled spoiled and it sounds to me like those wishes are coming true. Just a thought. LOVE YOU

Those of you who really know Thoroughbred Horse Racing may comment more knowledgeably regarding Oaklawn Racing and the three-plus generations of astute planning that traditionally goes into its future, while Mr. Cella stays mindful of a strong tradition. Historically, Oaklawn traces it inception to 1904, began its 97th season with 2011, and in 2005, was awarded the First Eclipse Award to a race course. Since then, as times and the world change, the Cella Family, and Mr. Charles J. Cella, consistently seeks the best for its racing family, the horses welcomed there, and the racing community at large. If there is a first among equally-committed facilities, Oaklawn and the Cella Family leadership deserve credit for lifting and maintaining a bar of excellence ennobling horse racing by its venerable example. Lots of commentary on Charles Cella and Oaklawn can be found online. Your personal recollections are especially nice, shared here. Thanks, all.

Thanks, Zenny, for having the billboard picture posted on your diary. Of course, you look so beautiful that it takes one’s breath away. I know you must be careful in your new job, but I still wonder if you have used any of your dancing moves lately. Those have been a wonderful part of your visible image, and while we can understand if they are not in your daily schedule, maybe you just feel good at times and “show your stuff?” Just wondering. Love and kisses, dear one.

ZENYATTA AND TEAM – AS ALWAYS MY HEART IS RUNNING OVER WITH LOVE FOR ALL OF YOU… GOD BLESS.

That billboard would make a GREAT poster! Any chance of that? Put me down for 2 – one for me and one for my classroom! All of my students are now Zenyatta fans and have a countdown board for when the baby is due!!! Too cute!!! Latest writing assignment – name the foal…

Oh, big beautiful Z!! John is so thoughtful; this picture is awesome-and billboard size. (rightfully so) You are a stitch Z, glad you know the convenience of the peppermint candy! ha I’ll have to send more soon. My heart just broke. I read Heinretta Wolfe’s comments. No visitations for Z at Lane’s End!! Oops; tears have filled my eyes. I truly regret I was unable to see you the morning after the Breeders Cup back by the barns. I could have kissed your nose and told you how great & beautiful you are. At least I saw you up close at Oaklawn and again at Keeneland but…….it is just not the same thing. Love and 2 kisses on your soft nose.

What a wonderful billboard. Zenny, you look so relaxed. It is wonderful how healing our connections to animals are. They can teach us so much about being in the moment, about living. They give without an agenda (except maybe for a treat, LOL). Thank you Dottie, Zennie, team Z. In a world of political rancor, where important issues are made into power struggles, I can go here to cleanse my mind and heart. This is an oasis of light, joy, and friendship. Very healing.

That is to cute! You are such a spoiled little mare! haha! Love you Zenyatta and I am glad that you are still doing great!!! :D

@ Annie from post 206
When I was writing about rescue, I was transferring my non-profit org’s experience in general to the surplus horses issue, we did not rescue horses. I meant to say that from my experience the people in the field were the ones truly motivated, gritty, hanging tough.
The job is no fun, often you’re up your butt in doodoo, mostly though it’s unbelievably filthy, shocking the things you see,the carelessness, scares the heck out of you for the animals who had to endure. The field workers really are the ones who are in touch, but often are being ignored because it doesn’t fit the image that the board thinks it needs to portray to get the funds. If you have a way you think will make it easier for these horses, try it.
Good morning Zenyatta
hope the morning finds big clouds of oat dust being blown out of your feedbag by your eager nostrils sniffin out the last little morsel of breakfast, and some pears for the digestion, carrots & nanas and your desert, mints. Keeps you feeling cool and refreshed.
Have a great day :) :) :)
