Good Morning!
YIPPEE! Firstly, HAPPY MARCH 1st! A new month! I can’t believe how fast the time is going!
Also, a HIGH HOOF to John! He did look through his photos and found these for you! In them, I am at about the same stage of my Training Center Lessons at Mayberry Farm as Eblouissante is in her current photos. So you can see how many similarities we have in body, size, and EARS! Too cute!
ENJOY!
It was great to hear that I was able to help raise funds for the YMCA. $12,600…..this really makes me feel GREAT! This Y program operates on the goal of…not turning a child away. I am so grateful I could help. Dottie also let me know that my one shoe recently brought in $2000 for Ronald McDonald House. My Moneigh is currently being auctioned for ReRun to help horses in need! This is all so fabulous!
The other day, Dottie was explaining to me that I am a real MULTI-TASKER. She said this is a term used for one who can accomplish many things at one time…balance family, career, and outside responsibilities and goals…like fund-raising! She told me it is really something HUMANS do so often and well these days with all of their busy schedules and responsibilities! It requires a great deal of organization…for sure.
At this time, I’d like to say WOW to all of you MULTI-TASKERS out there! You should be proud of all that you do each day! I’m new at this…and trying my best! One thing for sure…it makes ME feel really terrific when I can complete a wide range of tasks and HELP OTHERS along the way!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~
Z
PS…..In the spirit of giving, we are doing a special thing for the Zenyatta Lounge this Saturday, March 5th. If any of you are starting ‘spring cleaning early’….and see a few things in your closet that you would like to ‘recycle and feel would be enjoyed by someone else’….please bring them to SANTA ANITA’S OPERATION OFFICE this Saturday. I know they would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Just trying to help….Z

@JLG – Elephants are some of the most amazing of Gods creatures. How generous of you to support the effort to make their lives better! Although the retirement was unexpected, I hope it ultimately becomes a gift.

@NorCalFan#1: I was so relieved to think that maybe the audio link you posted might put an end to all this confusion over the pronunciation of Vertigineux’s name. But – domage! – the announcer at the auction seriously butchered the French pronunciation. As I mentioned in a post on this topic awhile ago, there may be some huge linguistic license used by the American teams of these two horses. so I have no way of knowing how they are choosing to pronounce these names.
However, in the French language, letter combinations of ‘au’ and ‘eau’ and ‘eaux’ are pronounced ‘oh’ as in “Oh no!” The ending ‘eux’ (without an ‘a’), as in Vertigineux and ‘deux’ (the French word for ‘two’), is pronounced almost like the ‘oo’ sound in book/nook/look. And the ‘g’ in Z’s Mom’s name is soft because it is followed by an ‘i’. Not an easy word for English speakers to grasp. A tongue twister at best. Right along with Eblouissante, which has also been butchered here by some well-meaning posters.
Hope this helps. I am now officially off my high (French) horse. :-)
Diane
Way to go with all of the fundraising; you and Team Zenyatta are still helping people!!! I look forward to your posts everyday. Stay happy and loved!

Wow Zenny, Eblouissante is really something. I am wondering if she has any of your personality & disposition. And we know you can dance but what about Eblouee? Perhaps you could chat about that a bit.

Hi Z,just returned from Nashville, TN,saw “The Road to the Horse” a competition between some of the best trainers in the country. Got my horse fix, really wanted to head up to Lexington to see you but I know you are not accepting visitors at this time. Hope all the tornados missed your area.
You and your sister look so much alike, two beautiful girls! Thanks Dottie and John for the great pictures!
lizzy
@admiringfan–agree with your observation of Z and E. No doubt they’re related. There are similarities but differences as well. I know one thing for sure, E will trained to be a champ under John’s tutelage. She’s one lucky girl. :)
Linda Henderson
The photos are just great. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Can’t get enough Zenyatta!

Thanks sooo much to John and Dottie for finding
All the pics if young Z. I know you are soooo very busy
With training and racing. It is do thoughtful that you take
The time for all of us Tooo.
Z and E how cute. There are some resemblances to mom
Ears, size and personality. Both E and Z are very gentle. I
Think E may be a little less high strung if all riders at current
Farm can ride her without a problem. Z was a little more
Challenging. Kate said V was a little more high strung
Due to Kris S influence.
You are both sooo beautiful. Z is a little longer. And leaner
In mid body with bigger hips. E looks like she had Bernies
Awesome head. That conformation photo of her is
Gorgerous. She looks well balanced in a different way. Street
Cry seems to look more muscled, a real masculine look. Bernie is stocky but very regal with a perfect head.
If it gets too hot in KY and Z coat is too long they will clip for
Her comfort. Liners wearing a winter coat in 90 degree weather. Horses
Can actually overheat if coat is too long and thick. They also
Become slow and sluggish.
Sweet Dreams Z. Keep that little embryo warm.
But more regal.
Shari Voltz
Zenyatta your sister is so pretty like you. Thank you for showing us. Thank you even more for helping the YMCA and the children. I know from experience how happy those children will be that will get a pass. Our YMCA also sponsors children and they love to go to swim or play basketball. You and your family are just such wonderful, giving people. We are lucky to have all of you. I love you Zenny. Hugs and Kisses from Shari in Ohio XXXOOO

@ Signofthetimes,
.
They don’t clip broodmares coats. I’m sure Zenyatta will shed out just fine. E is clipped because she’s in work and would sweat up with any amount of coat on her. Zenyatta is standing around in a field. Come the warm weather she’ll already have her lovely summer coat.

JUST LOOK at how beauty runs in the family! You are such a sweet wittle baby girl at 2 – just too cute! I have a little horse that will be two in August and young horses are just so cute and curious – how fun! Love your charity work and all the efforts from your team – you all deserve the best and all your hopes and dreams to come true! LOVE YOU!

Thanks John for going through your pictures to find baby Z’s. I know that was a daunting and boring task, yeah right. :) Also thanks to everyone that puts so much time and effort into this website, it is so appreciated.
Great looking sisters and what a gorgeous family tree.
Thinking of you always Zenny, praying for you, your human and equine friends, family and fans to stay healthy and safe.
Lotsa love to all.

Thank you for all you and your team has done and I know will continue to do. The strength you give us to go on and accomplish great things is outstanding. We should all remember to have Zenyatta Days everyday!

I read a description of the great race mare and broodmare Myrtlewood the other day. It goes something like this… “moves in a queenly manner but always quiet and calm in demeanor.” Does this remind you of anyone we know???
Caitlin
Thanks so much for the great pictures; I really enjoy seeing the family history, and resemblance. BTW.. I may have some items to deliver on Saturday for the Zenyatta Lounge. Where is the Operations Office at Santa Anita (street entrance, gate?? any clue will help..)
Meredith
Guess you haven’t quite filled out yet in these pictures. But you sure got beautiful later.

Wowie, Lady, you have a bigger hiny & belly than your sister E, hee hee :) :) :)
You’re a couple of lookers alright, nice looking fillies. Glad all your charities efforts were successful. Good luck at Saturday races & collection for the Ladies’ Lounge.
Take care Zetty, get a good night’s rest and sweet dreams always.

ATTN: ANYONE WANTING TO GIVE TO THE ZENYATTA LOUNGE – I got in touch with Pete Siberell at Santa Anita and here is a “wish list” of items they are looking to get for the lounge, per Pete:

College-type refrigerator for soft drinks in the lounge
Large wall clock
Bedding: Pillows, sheets, blankets, quilts (mostly twin for cots)
Towels and washcloths
Toiletries
Reading glasses
DVDs in Spanish (comedy and action)
Hope this helps for anyone wanting to donate.
Peggy
OOps, sorry for two posts…….

Two absolutely gorgeous fillies!!!!

You know Z…you were a multi tasker even when you were a “Working Girl”. You not only raced but you trained and gave joy to many racing fans and brought more people in to see the joys of the game!
Thanks for all you do!!
Marta Pilling
Z reminds me of Man O War in her first photo. With her long neck and head held high.
LauraJ
@Signofthetimes, I left you a post on Diary #96, toward the end, on the subject of full siblings.

For anyone who might be interested, another close member of Zenyatta’s family was added to yesterday.
Zenyatta’s half sister, TREASURE TRAIL (2006 f by Pulpit) delivered a filly by Z’s sire Street Cry yesterday (Feb. 28).
Cora Lynne
Both you and E are so breaktakingly beautiful, Zenyatta! I can definitely see a family resemblance in the two of you girls. Miss you girl.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the photos!! WE JUST CAN’T GET ENOUGH! DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THE URGE TO RUN RIGHT DOWN AND CHECK OUT Winter Quarters and Mayberry Farms? I feel like that is where alot of the action is. So interesting to hear about the different stages of training. I wonder if E will take a while to grow into her legs, just as Zenny did.
P.S. GOT MY BEAUTIFUL ZENNY and SECRETARIAT POSTER TODAY. YIPPEEEEEEE!
Linda in NJ
Hi Zenny: Weren’t you a cute little one. I didn’t have much time this evening to go through the various posts, so I’ll come back here tomorrow night. Take care Zenny. Love, Linda
Paula Higgins
I see a resemblance between Zenny and E in their backside/legs. E looks more like her Dad than she looks like Zenny. Both are gorgeous girls. Can’t wait to see if E has Zenny’s stride, size and big heart. Thanks for posting these Dottie and John. Dottie, maybe if those of us who don’t live in California get a heads up earlier, we can send things to the Ladie’s Lounge. Would also need to know what it is you are looking for (?clothing) and an address.
