Good Morning,
Well, I am feeling fabulous this morning! After I came back from Darley yesterday, I relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the day in my regular routine with my friends. We had a great time ‘visiting’ and “just doing girl talk!” It was also a day when one reflects on one’s family. I have this great photo of Mario I wanted to share with YOU. When he came to visit me last time, Mario also spent some fun time visiting other farms. He really wanted to meet MY MOM, VERTIGINEUX. We were able to make this happen for him.
During his visit with Vertigineux, he spent a great deal of time just laughing and smiling! I guess it is because she is “MY MOM”! Mario commented that we have some very similar physical qualities. She is also a good-sized MARE with a PRETTY FACE and GREAT eyes! And look at those adorable EARS! I really believe all of my friends at BARN 55 would know them ANYWHERE! (I think my whole family has a ‘thing’ for fabulous EARS!) Very, very cute!
As for my personal ‘baby’ status, many of you asked several questions about what happens next. Well, with horses, the vets will scan me at approximately 16 days to see if “I look to be in foal”. This is considered to be the ‘early pregnancy scan’. If all looks to be in good order…they will rescan me about 12-14 days later. The primary goal of these early check-ups/scans is always to monitor the “IN FOAL STATUS.” The third pregnancy scan is done 42-45 days from the breeding date. This one is especially important. At this stage, it is really a good sign when all is A-OK with the pregnancy. So, I’ll update you as we go along…but the 42-45 day report is very, very important!
Like I said yesterday…HOOVES CROSSED.
All of my CA FRIENDS and BARN 55 are very excited! Dottie was teasing them….THINK “BLUE” or THINK “PINK.” The anticipation is so much fun! Also, I did want to tell you that I so appreciate ALL of the KIND WORDS, CONCERN, and THOUGHTS you shared with ME on my Web-site and Facebook Page. You are all such loving and caring friends! I hope the next year is a GREAT EXPERIENCE for all of us! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING!
I will keep you posted!
With love,
HUGS TO ALL~

Aw you look just like your mom Zenny! I see where you get all of your gorgeous qualities from! I know it will be almost a year, but I can’t wait for the Zenyatta foal to be born! It will be amazing! Just one thing. lease make sure you aren’t overbred throughout your retirement. Yes, we want lots of your foals running on the track, but we don’t you to have to suffer for it. But I’m sure your owners care way to much about you to let that happen! Love you Zenny! Good luck with everything!!! :D

Zenyatta, your Mom is just beautiful, now we know where you get your great looks and ears! I have to tell you, you make me SMILE – no matter how bad a day can be I’ll just go to see what you’re talking about today and I SMILE. I’m miss you racing, but now in this part of your journey you have so many important things to do, and a little rest doesn’t hurt. I just pray for you safe keeping and that you’ll continue to keep your fans “posted” on all your happenings. Thank you to everyone associated with you. I love you.
Doesn’t matter pink or blue – just healthy. Thank you for my smiles :).

Regarding visiting Zenyatta.
Please remember, she is one mare on a very large and busy farm. Lanes End states it’s visitation policy here:
http://www.lanesend.com/visitors/index.html
Which says there will be no public tours during the breeding season from February till the end of June.

Hi, Z,
I have admired your mama ever since I saw her picture a couple months back. And, she’s up for Broodmare of the Year, I think! Wow. Hope she gets it! My favorite picture of you and Mario is the one where you are actually hugging him! Your head is actually wrapped around him and it is so, so wonderful and so sweet!
It shows up in a couple of the most recent musical tributes to you done by AnimalsRock4Love (who loves you very, very much), but I haven’t been able to find the picture anywhere else. So glad you are back to your routine with your friends. Spring is coming soon, with all the wonderful things that happen….trees leafing out, flowers blooming, and birds coming back and filling the trees with song and chirping. I love this time of year, but it’ also a lot of work for me, since I am an avid gardener. I got behind on the fall cleanup since we have had so many snows (Memhis,TN) this year! Still can’t wait to see you and your buddies rolling in the dirt! Hugs. Your friend, Ann Maree

Look forward to updates on this. I know all too well what it is like to have your mare in foal, I went throug this with Penny (RIP) It was sad however back then things were a little diffrent she was in foal? but turn out she had a tumor lost her ovary and was never able to have a baby because of that. So wating for your news is just wonderful, I have no doubt your going to be a mom. You are going to have such a beautiful baby Z. And love the photo of Mario and your mom, you look so much like her, you look like your daddy a little as well. We love you two Z and we cannot thank Dottie enough for everything she has done for us on your behalf.
Lauren
@lauraj – thank you so much for the picture of Street Cry. He looks like a very sweet horse as well. It is clear to see where Zenny gets her personality. All in all though, I think she looks like her mom.
Irene Caty
Hi Zen, it was so perfect for you to display this picture of your Mom. Mom’s are so special and you do look much like your Mom and also have he soft natured personality. the ears are so special. You are the best of all of them and that will stay that way. Your Dad is also good looking. The three of you make such a nice family. The blend was so perfect. Now comes baby dear to add to the beautiful family. We will wait and see but I’m sure it will be a gorgeous foal and I hope it has your looks and personality. You have some time to think about all this Zenny. Stay happy and keep haveing fun Your fans are standing by to follow what is going on with you and the love for you just keeps flowing. Hope the weather warms up so you can bask in the sun. Love you always Zenyatta.
Debra Smith
Zenyatta are the people there going to let us come and see you? We tried last year to see curlin and they wouldnt budge. I hope so because I would be willing to make another trip to Kentucky just to see you and your friends!!
LauraJ
@Barbara Wood, check the Old Friends facebook page. It’s updated daily whereas the web page is not. I posted the link yesterday, so you may be able to find it. They had raised about $2000. I also saw that Michael from Old Friends posted earlier, so maybe he will read your note and respond. (Hi Michael, give LSC a carrot for me!)
LauraJ
@Debra Smith, see L’s note above regarding Lane’s End’s visitation policy.
Susan from VA
Excuse me for getting personal, but if they see twins at 16 days, will they attempt to pinch one off or wait and see if one resorbs on its own? I don’t know the standard practices in the race horse world.
OraJean Stevenson
Hi! Queen-Z & Team-Z,
I love that picture of Mario and your beautiful MOM. Your Team must love it too. Hope you all have a wonderful day. Thanks, Dottie, for keeping us all informed.
Hugs to you all. Fondly, OraJean
L
@Susan from VA,
They would try to pinch one off as soon as they were aware of the potential complication.
LauraJ
@jackie, it’s Ver-tĭ-zhĭ-new, or pretty close. Accent on the second syllable.

Stacy, your msg. to Zenyatta thrilled me as well…”I know you will make a great mama mare! I just found out I am pregnant yesterday, so I know yesterday had a lot of good energy going on! Take care queen Z and eat your veggies!”. Although I don’t know you, I adore all Zenyatta and Z Team fans, so I got goosebumps when I read your post! Oh, and be sure you eat your ‘veggies’ too:)Congratulations!!!

I would love to come and visit, Zenny, but I also understand how important it is to keep you and the foal you are carrying safe and healthy. I think Charles, your caretaker, mentioned somewhere that if you catch something like the herpes virus, that would be disastrous and will mean an instant abortion or something like that. So, our visits are not as important as the health and safety of you and your foal. Just let us know when it might be safe for you to have visitors.
Your mom looks fabulous, just like you! I also think it is very touching how Mario wanted to see your mom and went out of his way to see her. See how much everyone loves you, Zenny?
I must say that you deserve all our love because you have given us so much, Zenny!
Keep safe and warm :)
Love ya!
Jamie
I can see that you look a lot like your mom and after seeing Street Cry’s picture, you also resemble your father. ALL SO BEAUTIFUL!!

Dear Zenyatta and Dottie:
I had an idea two days ago, which concerned Mario Espinoza. Then as if it were a sign, Mario appears in today’s photo. He looks so joyful (Mario has a radiant smile) no doubt because he’s in the company of your mother. Mario seems to be patting Vertigineux in just the right spot, and she seems to be licking and chewing–a sign of contentment.
Surely, Mario appreciates Vertigineux in and for herself, but he also sees YOU in her. How evident Mario’s love of you is that he would want to meet your mother; how kind of Team Z to arrange that meeting. I remember once reading a quote from Mario when you were still at Barn 55–he joked that you were his “other woman.” It was very moving to see the two of you together, reciprocally caressing each other’s shoulders, last December.
I wondered, if you and Dottie thought it appropriate (and Mario’s schedule permitted) and fans on this and the Facebook website were willing–I wondered if each of us donated a small amount (maybe $5.00 or less), we could give Mario a plane ticket to come and visit you? Maybe this isn’t the exact right time due to gestating getting underway, but perhaps there would be a right time for such a visit to take place.
I wonder what other fans think of this idea and what you and Dottie and the rest of Team Z think of it? The permission of all of Team Z and you Zenyatta of course would be necessary in order to launch such a plan.
Love–Robbie

Zenyatta, I was at Hollywood Park two weeks ago to look at a colt in Barn 54 South. First stop, though, was Barn 55 South after I took a picture of Zenyatta Way. Your John said I could see your old stall, but he figured I could find it all by myself. And he was right! Pretty easy with that painting of you! But what I wanted to tell you was that I got to talk to Mario who said how wonderful it was to see you when he went back to Kentucky. He told me, “It made me so happy!”

Dear Zenny,
So glad you had a restful and enjoyable afternoon yesterday. I love this picture of your “mom” and Mario. You and your mom look quite a like. Your Dad is also quite the handsome stallion with two white back feet. What beautiful lineage that you have. Please do keep us posted at the
different US times. We may not be able to
see anything until 45 days, but you can
let us know the outcomes of the early US.
Best wishes for your embryo/fetus fusion.
You and Dottie are very special people. Thanks to all for keeping Z alive for all of us. I got a print of your most recent Moneigh. It is sooo beautiful that I have it in my livingroom to look at all the time. Bernie also painted one recently.
Maybe he will start doing more charity work as well. He is such a gorgeous fellow.
Sweet dreams and happy eating oats, hay, alfalfa, carrrots and peppermints.
Trisha Veazey
Oh my but your mother is beautiful also. Must be in the genes. Have a great day gorgeous one.
Love hugs and kisses
Mary Stanford
Your mom is pretty just like you Z…and oh yes….how we love those ears. Glad you had a good day after seeing Bernie….and now we can hopefully be thinking pink or blue. Hugs to you Z….

@RobbiePK
What a wonderful and thoughtful idea!!!
I know Mario is pretty busy, but I bet he could make some time for a trip. Count me in and keep me posted.

I imagine Lanes End will make some special accomodations for visiting at an opportune time for Zenyatta. Of course,
not during breeding season. Everything is too busy and dangerous with all the hormones raging and foalings.
Everyone please be patient and understanding with this visitation issue.
Dottie, Z and both Teams Zenyatt and Lanes
End have been more than gracious. Protecting Z from any infections is paramount and humans can bring horse infections into neighboring farms. We all want things to go right and we may have to
wait a while to visit. Please cherish those moments from Barn 55 !!!!!
Jenna
Good thoughts and prayers out to Catherine Uher. I hope all is well. Such happy news for Zenyatta today; I hope we hear the same about Catherine.
Delores
Hi Z, your mother is so beautiful just like you and her ears are beautiful also just like yours. I am so excited for you to be a mom, of course you will be great at that, like everything you do, you do first class. You are such a Class Act Mare. I love you very much and thank you for showing us a picture of your mom. How proud she must be of you and to think she will be a grandmother. I am a grandmother and like all grandmothers we are proud of our babies. Take care of yourself and we will all keep our hooves, fingers and everything else crossed. Love you lots and XOXOXOXO to you and your team.

You and our Divine Dottie hit the mark every time with the Diary entries, pictures, tone, vibe, good will, and inspiring messages. Personally, I’m beginning to have an even deeper appreciation for the skill, talent, and devotion that Dottie brings to her work. She’s a fantastic business woman, at the height of her profession, deeply trusted, and exceptionally gifted. I’m sure I am joined by many, many others who would love to have the chance to know her better. THANK YOU DOTTIE and thanks to the Mosses who support only the best people to be around their horses.
.
I have to know – does anyone else feel queasy with morning sickness? LOL What a day yesterday! The Dottie word that keeps repeating in my mind is “professional”, and that word alone brings the entire experience into focus and to another level of respect for the manner in which the behind-the-scenes processes are managed and reported. Yet it takes NOTHING away from the joy, happiness, anticipation, excitement and – oh yes add me to the list – tears over the event. I just wonder how many of our Lovely List that includes Mike, Mario, Carmen, John, Steve, Dottie, Precious Ann and Jerry were also taking a gulp of much needed breath while weeping, a lot or a little. Change. Bittersweet but affirming. And such a beautiful miracle to look forward to!
