Good Morning,
Well, I am feeling fabulous this morning! After I came back from Darley yesterday, I relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the day in my regular routine with my friends. We had a great time ‘visiting’ and “just doing girl talk!” It was also a day when one reflects on one’s family. I have this great photo of Mario I wanted to share with YOU. When he came to visit me last time, Mario also spent some fun time visiting other farms. He really wanted to meet MY MOM, VERTIGINEUX. We were able to make this happen for him.
During his visit with Vertigineux, he spent a great deal of time just laughing and smiling! I guess it is because she is “MY MOM”! Mario commented that we have some very similar physical qualities. She is also a good-sized MARE with a PRETTY FACE and GREAT eyes! And look at those adorable EARS! I really believe all of my friends at BARN 55 would know them ANYWHERE! (I think my whole family has a ‘thing’ for fabulous EARS!) Very, very cute!
As for my personal ‘baby’ status, many of you asked several questions about what happens next. Well, with horses, the vets will scan me at approximately 16 days to see if “I look to be in foal”. This is considered to be the ‘early pregnancy scan’. If all looks to be in good order…they will rescan me about 12-14 days later. The primary goal of these early check-ups/scans is always to monitor the “IN FOAL STATUS.” The third pregnancy scan is done 42-45 days from the breeding date. This one is especially important. At this stage, it is really a good sign when all is A-OK with the pregnancy. So, I’ll update you as we go along…but the 42-45 day report is very, very important!
Like I said yesterday…HOOVES CROSSED.
All of my CA FRIENDS and BARN 55 are very excited! Dottie was teasing them….THINK “BLUE” or THINK “PINK.” The anticipation is so much fun! Also, I did want to tell you that I so appreciate ALL of the KIND WORDS, CONCERN, and THOUGHTS you shared with ME on my Web-site and Facebook Page. You are all such loving and caring friends! I hope the next year is a GREAT EXPERIENCE for all of us! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING!
I will keep you posted!
With love,
HUGS TO ALL~

@sighnofthetimes,
And WHAT exactly are the problems of ENSIGHN? All he is doing
is giving people TRUE, AND helpfull information. Is there something wrong with that?
ENSIGN
@ Hannah,
Nope, not you. No hard feelings :-)

@Sharon Call
Thank you for link on MOW. Beautiful video and story. What stood out watching video was his face and the gentleness behind the eyes, how he stood looking in the distance (almost in trance) like our Z, AND his hindquarters. Wow, do they look powerful.
.
I think this will be my next read. Any recommended books on MOW?
lizzy
…one more observation on MOW. Anyone notice his ears while racing…just like our Z, straight up and perky.
.
Z, I’m so thankful the day that I took the time to click on youtube link of you my friend sent me. It’s been pure joy and love ever since. Because of YOU(and this site), I’ve become interested in TB, lineage, breeding, racing and everything horse. Side note: my daughter however thinks that I’ve lost my mind. :/

@ Lizzy,
The book Sharon mentioned by Dorothy Ours is probably the best one out on MOW right now. Great read if you can pick it up. I think MOW had an incredible bond with his groom but otherwise he was known as an extremely firey horse, no doubt inherited from his sire line which known for other attributes, but gentleness wasn’t one of them! ;-)

@Ensign
Thank you. Must of missed…thank you Sharon. Just added (MOW-Dorothy Ours) on my Nook. :)
.
“gentleness wasn’t one of them!”….LOL, I guess photo’s can be deceiving. ;)

Good morning!
I thought anyone here who hasn’t seen this DRF piece about Mario and Carmen might enjoy:

Z: I just love Mario’s big smile when he is meeting your mom. You look a lot like your beautiful mom, and it must have been a thrill for him to meet his beautiful Z’s mom. Great genes which will come through in your foal….and I can’t wait to see those baby ears!!!

Scroll down to the very last heading (above “references”) to see something Mario would likely NOT do:

Also on same page — everything you need to know about horses’ teeth, and then some!

You have a beautiful mom, Zenny. Mares generally take after their moms in the breeding shed. Hopefully it was easy to settle your mom, and that you take after her.

@signsofthetimes:
I think we’ve read the same article. ;) For those that have missed in previous discussions, here it is again.

This article certainly shows Z spunkiness.

I know this video’s been posted (by me, or others) previously, but love it! This is video I found on youtube of another trainer coming by (in Ca.) to pay a visit to Z. Just show’s that ‘the professionals’ have been equally mesmerized by our beautiful Z as the common folk.

@Sharon Call,
Thanks for posting the link to the MOW article and the video. Absolutely loved the video. BTW, on eBay, about ten years ago, someone posted numerous photos of MOW’s funeral. I remember being mesmerized by them, because they were close ups of MOW in his casket, and I keep thinking “wow, unbelievable”. I didn’t bid on them and can’t remember what the final bid was, but not a significant amount of money, kind of wish now that I had bid them.
@Ensign,
I find your postings helpful and insightful. And quite frankly I don’t care if you are posting the information based on “surfing the net”, or because you have first hand experience/knowledge, or its a combination of both, or even if a little birdie is whispering in your ear. The fact is it has been offered sincerely and without malice and until I see different I will look forward to your postings. Oh, the Roberto information, loved it all, as I love studying genetics. Gives me hope that Z will throw a little one in her image, which takes me down another rabbit trail – Do I remember correctly that Black Helen had a filly named Be Like Mom, who unfortunately was anything like mom? Oh little Z, please do be like mom.
Kathryn Cogswell
As part of its ’31 Days of Oscar,’ Turner Classic Movies offered Saturday night ONE FLEW OVER THE COOKOOS NEST, the film Michael Douglas finally made from Ken Kesey`s 1962 novel, set in the NW. Who`s who — and who`s what — in the mental institution that Randel P. McMurphy infects with his brand of liberated madness is hard to tell by the time the plot thickens, but the silken control of Nurse Mildred Ratched brings its own chaos to patients too long & too severely bound by her definitions of sanity. The monumental muted glory of Chief Bromden`s eloquence eventually defines best an escape from her only McMurphy will never again have to attempt. It is one of the things art does best: use chaos as the manna for clarity. Rough weather is not the only reason for a delayed flight; it is a good reason to utilize better instruments in plotting flight patterns. The hospital staff asked McMurphy why he had conflicts with Nurse Ratched. ‘She ain`t honest,’ he said. But Louise Fletcher, in her Oscar-winning role ‘played the part .. . as a character who genuinely believes she is helping her patients.’ “To do that she had to control her environment . ..” ONE FLEW OVER THE COOKOOS NEST eventually earned 40 times its initial cost to film & was only the second picture in Oscar history to sweep the top five 1975 Academy Awards. Love never fails; it never does.

@Kathryn Cogswell — I realize that there is no such thing as separation in reality, but the connection between your movie review and Zenyatta might seem pretty obscure to many people. Are you sure you might not do better posting your review on Netflix?

Love you, Z! You & your mama are both beauties. I’m thinking pink so there can be yet another beauty in your family!
