Good Morning, Everyone!
The BIG DAY has arrived!
Yesterday, I had my ‘mane pulled’ (groomed and thinned out) and hooves polished so I would look perfect for this ‘moment’! I rather suspected that it was getting close due to all of the attention I was getting. The vets were here during the morning checking me…to be sure my system was ready. Charles, Mike and Matt were at the barn helping me to learn some proper MAIDEN MARE Etiquette…so I would be totally prepared for this experience. MAIDEN MARE is the term used for a MARE who has never been bred before. That’s ME! All day…I had so much ATTENTION!
Then this morning at about 7:30, MY LIMO ARRIVED. A lovely SALLEE VAN was waiting outside the barn ready to take me to Darley. It is approximately a 10 minute ride to that farm from Lane’s End. Matt went with me on the van…and Charles and Michael Cline also went along. I guess it was decided that Bernie and I would be the last couple in the Darley breeding shed for this morning’s session.
Well, WE GOT RAVE REVIEWS! It all went very well. In horse terms, it was ‘one jump…and a very good cover’…meaning that everything went perfectly in our first meeting. Per the guys from my crew…”it was TEXTBOOK. ZENYATTA was unbelievably professional…especially for a maiden mare. It was all nice and easy and went PERFECTLY.” Oh, my guys…Mike, Charles, and Matt are TOO CUTE! They really love me! Blush-Blush!
I must say…Bernie was also extremely professional and very focused on his job! WE MAKE A GREAT COUPLE!
By 8:30…I was back in my LIMO with Matt going home to LANE’S END!
What a morning! Life has so many different kinds of experiences for one to explore and appreciate when the time is right for them to happen! Hooves crossed…..that this day, February 23rd, becomes VERY SPECIAL for me and my new role as a MOM!
I’ll keep you posted as we go along! I am so excited!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~(including Bernie!)

Just want to pick up on a thread about the possibility (hopefully) of an embryo transplant with a champion show horse that could produce a future “Olympic” horse for future Olympic equestrion events. Anyone who has seen our Zenyatta dance has probably thought of her dressage potential. Breeding her with a champion show horse (with those strong front legs for jumping events) could be one for the history books!!!! Here’s hoping. Thoroughbred racing has had some really sad events happen throughout its history, Ruffian being one of the most hearbreaking. I was so nervous for Zenyatta as the last Breeder’s cup loomed up because of such sad events (which still occur much too frequently). I’m glad that Z’s excellent care and training saved our beautiful girl from precious Ruffian’s fate. Kudos to Team Z for giving the world such a gift! I too hope that she can raise her baby, weaning it in nature’s time. Some say one reason Secretariat was so great was that his Mom got to give him plenty of lovin’ and attention! I’m just sayin’……….!!!

Good luck to you Zenyatta! I can’t wait to know if you are going to be a mommy!

Good morning Z. Hope you are having a fine one. My human told me that you and that young whipper snapper Bernardini had your date yesterday. It sounds like he treated you with respect so I don’t have to pin my ears back at him! Haha. Glad everything went well. Now we all have to sit back and wait. That’s the worst part when its such a big event. Being in foal will be an exciting time more so for the humans than you but we all anticipate a healthy foal. It won’t be as perfect as it would have been if this old gelding was able to have anything to do with it ;+) but it will be gorgeous baby just the same. Take care my dear and hope horses don’t get morning sickness. I’ve heard that it is horrible!
Love ya

@Abigail in Montreal, I loved your guest post on Steve Haskin’s blog a while back. Here’s a neat little factoid for you. Rags to Riches’ Henrythenavigator colt was born on St. Patrick’s Day—in Ireland. (That just tickled me to pieces.) It actually makes a lot of sense for her to be in Ireland. Her female family brings the distance genes. Just think—not only is she a Belmont winner herself, but her half brother Jazil is also, and her half-brother Man of Iron won the Breeders Cup Marathon. There are so many more opportunities for long races in Europe, and her offspring should do well there.
@Barbara Wood, I totally understand. There’s always some good cause that can use our money, and none of us is a bottomless well. You have done what you can already this month and that is more than enough. Hopefully some other folks will click that link and send a few bucks if they are able.

Fingers crossed for you Zenyatta. You’ll make such a great mom!

I am glad your rendezvous with Bernie went swimmingly (there is an intended pun in there). This will be a long year of anticipation. As always, I hope for nothing but the best of health and serenity for you and your foal through your gestation,Z. XO

@L
ENISGN IS HARDLEY A ZENYATTA FAN AND HAS NEVER BEEN and it is obvious. He is a pompus barn hand who
gets his rocks off watching horses breed.
He is not an expert ON Zenyatta and the people on this site do not want to hear
information about her from him. He has probably never met or seen her in person.
It took some time for me to wake up to his
antics. Others on this site should quit touting him as the guru and look up and discuss with other who are more knowledgeable and NOT PERVERTED.

I am Happy for you Z, now we wait to see if all really went well and you will be in Foal…….. What a Lady you are , You will be a wonderful Mom………..Crossing my fingers for you and Bernadini……..

Sweet Zenny, how are you feeling this morning? Hope you started your day with a good roll in the mud, maybe some yoga poses to relax – you’d do well with your lovely long legs! Have fun with your friends and happy gestation!:)

“Weekends with Bernie” What do you think of that for your foals name? “Weekend” for Bernardini’s Grand Dam- “Weekend Surprise” and “Bernie”…well, that’s obvious. Let me know.
Yvonne and Maurice Kirby
Wow, I love the name Weekends with Bernie!!!

Gosh I’ve gone from protoplasm to a common pervert, where do you go from there?
Luvhorses (nice new alter btw) I hope you’d having a fantastic day sweetheart, you truly are a ray of sunshine on this site :-)

Love the description of the quick done-in-one-take meeting. If you’d met him in a natural environment, would you have found him attractive, and if so, do horses stay together for life?
