Good Morning,
I hope you had a very nice weekend. Our weather is still ‘nice’ here in Kentucky and I am able to enjoy my time outside with my paddock friends each day. Well, I wanted to tell you about some of my other friends…back in California. This morning, Dottie was going over the update on how the “ZENYATTA LOUNGE for Women” is doing at Santa Anita. We wanted to share the progress with you.
Firstly, A BIG THANK YOU to all of the people who brought products and items to donate to the Lounge on Secretariat Award Day! These items are greatly appreciated…and the women are very thankful for your thoughtfulness.
Secondly, we are getting several different types of classes organized to help the ladies with various academic skills. Thus, as you can see in the photo above, we all have so many different things to learn in life. For us to do our best, we need to have people around us who care…and want to help us learn. In this photo, I am ‘schooling at the starting gate’. Because I was a BIG GIRL…the starting gate took quite some time for me to feel comfortable in it. I needed to learn these lessons and fortunately “the people around me took the time and patience to teach me the skills I needed to succeed.”
With the Lounge, we are trying to do the same thing….HELP PEOPLE TO LEARN things which will help to make their lives easier. We are now offering educational classes for the ladies. Sister Soledad is teaching the English Classes. We have 2 different levels offered: beginning English and then an intermediate type class. We also have an availability for some 1-1 in this area. Additionally, the Rosetta Stone Program is offered on the Lounge computer for extra practice. We are also fortunate to have Al, who does the computer tech work for Santa Anita, volunteer his time to teach COMPUTER SKILLS to the ladies. He comes out every 2 weeks and teaches a lesson….and then gives ‘homework’ and ‘follow-up’ activities for them to work on until the next lesson.
It is so special when people CARE and WANT TO HELP OTHERS. As I was fortunate to have people around we who worked to help me achieve….it is so gratifying to see others extend this helping hand. We are so fortunate!
The ZENYATTA LOUNGE also offers fun activities like BINGO (where we have pizza and sodas in addition to playing the games). The Ladies had a Valentine Exchange Get-together, and then there is the Once-A-Month…GIRLS NIGHT OUT to a restaurant. Here we celebrate the birthdays for the ladies for that month. Each birthday ‘girl’ is given a FACIAL as her gift!
Things are really moving along beautifully with the LOUNGE. It is so special to hear that these LADIES are really getting involved in LEARNING and TAKING SUCH AN INTEREST in doing all of these wonderful activities. Also, it is great to note, that they are sharing these activities with their friends….and HAVING FUN!
I am so PROUD of everyone who is helping, volunteering their time….and participating! I’d personally like to THANK EVERYONE who is striving to make the ZENYATTA LOUNGE for WOMEN a SUCCESS!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Love the picture of you schooling at the starting gate, Z! Of course you always gave the others a head start out of the gate (and it still wasn’t enough, as you would blow past them all!). The Zenyatta Lounge is such a wonderful way to help many. Kudos to Team Zenyatta! Love and hugs.

Zenny, you are right, if everyone that can do so will help in whatever way they can that is what it takes for a successful project. I’m glad you are getting everyone moteavaited to share in the help. You have the power to make things happen sweet Zen. Good to hear that you are still enjoying the warm weather spell in Kentucky. You and the girls can run and have fun in the paddock. Thanks for all the progressive information regarding the Zenyatta Lounge. Good Luck to all that are involved in helping. I bought the necklace that Mike Smith had for sale with the proceeds going toward the Zenyatta Lounge. The necklace is beautiful with a horse head and a big Z connected to it and Mike Smith’s initals at the top. It was quite meaningful to me and I will treasure it always. Mike is such a good person, he works with many charities. I’m glad that he was your Jockey. He really respected you Zenyatta. I still love you dearest Zenny and happy days ahead.

What a great pix of you at 2 with your friend in the starting gate. You obviously paid very close attention to your schooling! You we almost always last out of the gate and spotting the other horses 10 to 20 lengths and more and then blew them all off the track! I think you got an AA+ in starting gate! It is great that John was so patient with you as I am sure he will be with your “little sister”, patient trainers are Gods gift to their horses, you are a lucky and beautiful lady. You are an angel and your connections for giving to others.
Hope you caught a small glimpse of Rachel when she was vanning through to see Curlin and then went back home. You two didn’t meet on the track-maybe your kids will! You can sit back and let the kids do it!!That’s what’s fun when your a parent, send the kids out to do it for ya!!! And then ya say-hey that’s my kid doing that (winning the race)!!
Love ya, nose kisses, stay warm and hope to see you in the summer, maybe not upclose but maybe in the paddock covered with a mud pack facial!!!Joyce.

can we make donations to Zenyatta Lounge? I can’t get to Santa Anita but would love to help. Teach Bernadini a dance step or two <3

Z, and we know the rest of the Story….Zenyatta, was a very very good student !! As horse racing history is written, A VERY EXCELLENT STUDENT !! You were watching and learning….OUR VERY PRECIOUS QUEEN…getting your P’s and Q’s straight! Practice makes perfect, and perfect…you are !! You aced the starting gate and NEVER looked back !! HI Z! So glad everyone is doing so much for the Lounge. You must be very very proud. I am tired today. Kate had a horse show over the weekend; dressage, stadium jumping and cross country. She and Doozey took a fourth place in their division. Doozey received a penalty for taking the cross country course too fast (what do they expect from an ex racehorse?). Anyway, Z, they all had fun and returned safely and with a ribbon! Doozey is resting today and so am I. Have a wonderful evening Z!
Mary
Zenyatta, I am so thankful John took “baby” pictures of you. How cute of you in the gate! Hugs and Prayers

Dear Zenny – that is such a cute picture of you in the starting gate. As always I loved this post. It is such a wonderful way of learning about you and the people who love you so much. The Lounge sounds so amazing. How great it is to be able to give back to your community to help those less fortunate. If everyone was like you and your family, the world would be a great place to live in. Much love and hugs beautiful girl.
Sue Fredrick
Not only are your owners and team fabulous and caring horse people, an example to all in racing, but they are also great humanitarians. What a wonderful thing….everyone around the track should take notice. Well Racheal met Curlin and soon you and Bernardini will have you date…..we’ll have so much to look forward to. Meantime, have fun with the gals you are such a cute bunch. Luv and Kisses on your nose
Rosanne Glynn
Hi Zenny. I heard a rumor that you met with Bernadini today, Is that true? Please tell us what happened and the process. You look so sweet in that picture. I love you dearly and miss you. Please send some more videos. And can you confirm the address to where we can send things. Thanks!! oxoxxo

Compassion plus…that is you and your wonderful team. Giving, is good for the heart and soul. You have a huge heart and a lot of soul, as we all saw, during your fabulous career. We will NEVER see another like you in any format.
One of your stablemates just won the Buena Vista Handicap. Cozi Rosie ran just like you use to, down the middle of the track with a huge long stride. I think I heard her say…”this one is for my gal pal Zenyatta”, as she made her huge move. What do you think of that?
Your lounge sounds like such a fabulous teaching facility. I don’t think a stone is left unturned. No Moss… ha, will grow under their feet. The women will be able to take care of themselves and see that there are many things they can do in life. This in turn will give them a positive outlook for the remainder of their lives. After teaching for 32 years, I know how far a positive approach takes people of all ages. You all need to be commended.
Take care of yourself, Z.

Hi Zenny: You are right. It is important to always be inspired to learn new things. I always wanted to learn to play the piano. So, I started taking lessons. And just like you, I didn’t give up. Although you became a famous racehorse and I’m still working hard at the piano. This lounge and the programs being offered are wonderful. Zenny you and Team Z are great. You know, it is a real gift to be thoughtful and considerate of others! Not everyone has those gifts. It’s also a blessing to want to use and share those gifts so others will benefit. Thank you Zenny and Team Z.
Mary McQuire
It is so nice to have something positive to read when I come home!
