Good Morning,
What a THRILL! I am so deeply touched and honored! John Nerud, who is a RACING LEGEND, made some absolutely glowing comments about ME in his YouTube pieces called LASTING IMPRESSIONS.
Please enjoy his interviews!
Mr. Nerud’s direct quote about ME is that he feels Zenyatta is “equal or better than any mare I have EVER SEEN”. You have no idea how wonderful this makes me feel.
He complimented ME on what I did for our sport…and for Breeders’ Cup! I GRACIOUSLY want to thank him for his kind words! I will cherish them and remember them FOREVER!
To have one’s work respected and regarded in this manner is so significant and meaningful! I do believe establishing and accomplishing goals that you can be proud of is very important in one’s life. Then, to have one’s peers respect your work, as Mr. Nerud did mine, is such an HONOR!
YIPPEE! I really want to go out and celebrate this moment! I’m off to run a few laps in the paddock with my friends. Then I think I’ll spend the rest of the afternoon DANCING WITH SHEER JOY!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z
P.S. For all of my friends, Steve Haskin wrote a great piece in THE BLOODHORSE about Mr. Nerud and his visit to the National Museum of Racing on October 24, 2010. Please read it. Also, it is very special to note that Mr. Nerud just celebrated his 98th birthday. Happy Birthday, Mr. Nerud!

Hello Beautiful!
I know a lot of your fans on here are Sea the Stars fans, and hope you might consider him some day. Here’s a link of his second foal at only two weeks old: http://www.racingpost.com/news/bloodstock/alpine-rose-castlemartin-stud-haras-des-monceaux-maras-du-mezeray-s-a-watch-one-of-sea-the-stars-first-foals-on-video/820073/top/ His dam is a pretty girl, but of course not as beautiful as you! Just another guy to think about =-)

Thank you Dottie for correcting the viewing problem of the video. You ARE the show Zenny, you ARE the one. Tears came to my eyes hearing how wonderful you are. You are one of the greatest race horses there will EVER be. I truly enjoyed watching the praise that was given to you by Mr Nerud & I knew it was the dirt that caused you the Breeder’s Cup- but that didn’t diminish your greatness at all. In my eyes only the Great Secretariat could’ve done what you did. And of course you were given his award!!!!

I just placed my “10-Star” Vote for Zenyatta and also bought some Zenyatta goodies…stamps, mouse-pad, custom key-chain and Christmas ornaments for gifts. Four hours left at 50% off special rate. Thank you Mike for the website tip : ) See you and all of your friends tomorrow Sweet “Z”, God willing.
Kathy
Zenyatta, my Goddess, thank you and Dottie
for all the updates. I am happy that you are happy.

Oh Zenny what lovely words for you from Mr. Nerud and how very true.

“We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals… We patronize them for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate for having taken form so far below ourselves… therein we err, and greatly err. For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted with the extension of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings, they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time…” –Henry Beston, THE OUTERMOST HOUSE, 1928. ~ At ‘Pappy`s’ Vet`s & ‘Rachel Randel: A Wiser Concept’ http://shaman4animals.com/a-new-paradigm/a-wiser-concept [Since even before publication of Mr. Beston`s journal/memoir in 1928, this concept has appeared under various disciplines, all granting sovereign status to those sharing life on board with us.]

I am not a writer but found these words and had to send them to you Zen
ZENYATTA
GOD RODE YOU ACROSS THE HEAVENS
BEFORE HE SENT YOU DOWN TO EARTH
TO LIVE AMONG US MORTALS
UNTIL HE CALLS YOU TO HIS SIDE AGAIN
SOME SEE YOU AS A RACER
WHOSE STRIDES HAVE STUNNED THE CROWDS
OTHERS SEE YOU AS A LIGHT FORCE
THAT NURTURES AND HEALS THE HEART
WHILE OTHERS IN THEIR CHILD’S MIND SEE YOUR SPIRIT TEACHING US TO PLAY
WHAT EVER REASON YOUR MASTER SENT YOU
WE KNOW YOU FOREVER CAN NOT STAY.
BUT WHILE YOU LIVE AMONG US
WE PRAY WE SEE THE WORDS
THAT WERE WRITTEN ACROSS THE HEAVENS
THE DAY GOD TOOK YOU FOR HIS RIDE.
J Smith
What an interesting man. Has he written any books about his life?
There is a nice article in the NYT today 2/17 on Mike Repole, Uncle Mo’s owner. He sounds like a good guy too, and I think has been influenced by Team Z. Have not watched his speech from Eclipse awards, but heard about it. If you haven’t checked Uncle Mo’s Facebook page, do, it’s really funny. So glad you inspired Uncle Mo to keep up with modern tech Zenny. Link is for NYT article. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/18/sports/18repole.html?_r=1&emc=eta1

Wow… Christine… that is really lovely. I like to think that God takes a test ride on all the horses. I wish he would do more for those not as fortunate as Z and the runner living in my barn. I am going to send that to all my race horse friends. I bet that made Z stop chewing her carrots as she listened to it being read. I can just see the expression on her face.

I would like to share with you a website-Gratefulness.org. This powerful website allows us to “light a candle” in honor of beings past or present and note a personal message. There are groups established such as Zenya for Zenyatta, Barba for Barbaro, Fog for Lost in the Fog, 8bell for 8 Bells… It is a wonderful opportunity to express your love and it is extremely comforting. Let us send up our prayers, love, wishes and reflections to those present or past beings that are so deserving. Shine a little light for those who shine for us.

@Jane in Seattle — Thank you for the link — he is adorable. Sea the Stars/Zenyatta is on the short list of some breeders.

Hi, Zenny, hope you have had a great day today, and always. Having brought so much pleasure to so many of us, we wish you pleasure every day. I enjoyed the video with Mr. Nerud, particularly his fine comments about you Big Girl. I was glad to spoke so knowledgeably about your last race. It was such a challenge for you with so much going against what you had experienced before. The track surface was so different, getting it all over you was so distracting, and racing under the lights was something you had never done before. How you managed to overcome all those odds, which caused you to be sooo far back, and then to be in front a jump after the wire, well it is just an amazing feat even for you. Happy days, gentle one.

Got such a kick out of the way Mr Nerud says your name! So cute.
Linda
Wow – Just when I thought the Zenyatta saga couldn’t get any better along comes the John Nerud tribute – an absolutely beautiful recognition of horseracing history – the kind of history that only Zenyatta could make. Zenny is the absolute
best . . . Love you Z

How funny, can’t even spell my own name right!

“She brought the people. She brought the sentiment.”….She was the Breeders Cup.” Such words don’t get thrown around lightly by a true legend of the sport, John Nerud. At 98 years old he has seen ‘them’ all. So to say that our Zenyatta is one of the greatest fillys he has ever seen race, in and of itself means that he believes she will be considered a legend one day. (Of course, she is already is a legend to us). What a wonderful man. And behind his straight forward demeanor is a true romantic with a great sense of humor. I loved the bit about the beauty parlor in his interview with Steve Haskin. Thanks so much for this diary post.
.
@Christine – Lovely words I am sure Zenyatta would love.
@J Smith – Mike Repole is the real deal. I’m a huge ‘Mo’ fan and look for everything about either of them. You should watch his Eclipse Award acceptance speech. It’s great. Uncle Mo’s Facebook page is actually the creation of a 13 year old girl. It’s a great story. http://www.ntra.com//blog/index/view/MTE3NA==

Any donation will help to feed and tend to these babies with the hopes that homes will be found for them. Please put a post on your Facebook if you have one and get your friends to do so too, or twitter. Maybe they can raise a lot of money this way – just like they were able to find homes for those 52 horses.

Some of these little foals are only 2 or 3 days old when brought in. Donations collected will go towards feeding and caring for them until homes can be hopefully found for them. Please visit their Facebook page for more information and also photos of some of the foals. You can also post their info on your own Facebook and get friends to do so too and twitter – anything to get the word out. The wonderful story of finding homes for the 52 horses in just a week’s time shows what can be accomplished when everyone helps get the word out.

Thanks for the link to the Sea the Stars foal. It is always amazing how well these babies do when they are handled properly.
Not even 2 weeks old and he is being lead by the handler, of course, mommy is very much in the picture which really helps keep the baby calm.
Queen Z, you’re getting closer to meeting the Prince.
Cynthia A. Holt
Go ahead and burst your buttons, dearest Z! You have received high praise indeed from one of the elite of racing’s Old Guard!

People,
you need to check Zenyatta’s official fb page, she and her paddock pals are all in a picture sunning themselves. It’s a must have. ******stars

Ok,we have all been patient. Zenny told us she will be meeting with Mr. B when her “system” determines it…and all that “girly stuff” by the end of Feb. Hope she still has more time to enjoy the only true time to herself. I think some of us wish she could just be a non-working horse a little longer. We will miss seeing and hearing about her playing in the paddock. Anyway, when is the “happy couple” to um, meet? Blush.
