Good Morning,
What a THRILL! I am so deeply touched and honored! John Nerud, who is a RACING LEGEND, made some absolutely glowing comments about ME in his YouTube pieces called LASTING IMPRESSIONS.
Please enjoy his interviews!
Mr. Nerud’s direct quote about ME is that he feels Zenyatta is “equal or better than any mare I have EVER SEEN”. You have no idea how wonderful this makes me feel.
He complimented ME on what I did for our sport…and for Breeders’ Cup! I GRACIOUSLY want to thank him for his kind words! I will cherish them and remember them FOREVER!
To have one’s work respected and regarded in this manner is so significant and meaningful! I do believe establishing and accomplishing goals that you can be proud of is very important in one’s life. Then, to have one’s peers respect your work, as Mr. Nerud did mine, is such an HONOR!
YIPPEE! I really want to go out and celebrate this moment! I’m off to run a few laps in the paddock with my friends. Then I think I’ll spend the rest of the afternoon DANCING WITH SHEER JOY!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z
P.S. For all of my friends, Steve Haskin wrote a great piece in THE BLOODHORSE about Mr. Nerud and his visit to the National Museum of Racing on October 24, 2010. Please read it. Also, it is very special to note that Mr. Nerud just celebrated his 98th birthday. Happy Birthday, Mr. Nerud!

Hi Zenny!
He said: “equal or better than any mare I have EVER SEEN”. In my heart you are better :-) but then I’m just so partial to YOU!
HUGS & KISSES XOXO

There are two races that are thrilling to watch. The victory of Secretariat in the Belmont and your magnificent run from last in the 2010 Breeder’s Cup. You were fantastic. I have loved you ever since that race, beautiful Zenyatta.

Hi Zenyatta. What a great tribute. Thank you Sue for providing a link for Mr. Nerud’s interview. You should always be complimented – you are a treasure. But I believe you are the greatest horse that has ever raced!!! As Mr. Nerud stated, “God Bless You Zenyatta”. You are an Angel in Disguise. Love you. Stay toasty, have fun with your BFFs – love you.
Debbie

The comments made aboy you by John Nerud could not be found on my computer so I did not catch that. I’m glad that it made you very happy, Zenny. Have fun and enjoy your day. Love you always.

John Nerud also said glowing things about Zenyatta on the Steve Byk radio show a couple of months ago. He said something like, if Zenyatta was a woman, he’d want to take her out to dinner. Plus, he was the trainer of Dr. Fager, who appears in the pedigree of Bernardini, and (fingers crossed) Zenyatta’s future foal.
Katie Clawson
What a great thing to say about a TRULY WONDERFUL horse!! Keep running those laps with your friends! (you’ve got to keep that amazing figure for Bernardini) :P I hope you are enjoying this nice weather!
Love, Katie(future jockey)

The comments made by Mr. Nerud about you were very sweet in the Part 2 of his interview. That is great coming from an old horseman who is 98…he is awesome for his age…would never know it. He really praised you in for the Breeders Cup…and you deserved every bit of the praise. Us fans adore you and love you Z….you are one rare girl….you are from Heaven!!!
Jan
Zenyatta,
You are the best there is, and the best that will ever be. Looks like the weather in KY is starting to warm up. Have lots of fun playing and romping with your gal pals. xoxo.

Dear Z–what a great tribute to YOU. Of course, he recognizes greatness when he sees it. And happy birthday, Mr. Nerud!
We are so enjoying basking in the LOVE that you have given to all who hear of you and who are fortunate enough to see you and meet you.
I thought it was interesting in the posting of the link to the current year’s LE Farm babies, that the fillies and colts are even in number. RIP, dear War Pass. Hope this new one of yours makes you proud.
Cindy
As far as influence OFF the track as well as performance on it…I do not know of many racehorses that approach your achievments Zenyatta…Seabiscuit comes to mind, Secretariat, in a certain sense Ruffian…but such a small handful…and even of those “immortals” I do not know that any of them touched the fans hearts as you can do.
Sheri
You must feel so special Zenyatta! What an honor! Hey diary #88! My lucky number is 8! I missed your eights diary post b/c I didn’t even know you diary existed! Now I follow it every day! haha! Love you Zenyatta!!! :D
P.S. Have fun in the paddock!!! :D

Very nice, thanks for pointing us to the Bloodhorse article.

Happy birthday Mr. Nerud! Thanks for the link. A very nice interview and his comments are spot on. She WAS the BCC. It was all about Zenny and everyone else was a footnote. As far as I am concerned her run down the stretch was the greatest thing I have seen since Secretariat’s Belmont. It was jaw dropping. It made who won and who didn’t, irrelevant.

Dear Zeny, we are always so proud of you and your team. Congratulations on such a compliment from Mr. Nerud. Thanks to the internet and modern technology we stay in touch with you and the world of horse racing. Some of us, particularly me – do not know much about the industry but have learned a lot just by being a fan of yours and your family! Many thanks to them for loving you and taking care of you. Hugs, MV

I love Zenyatta and think there is none better than John Nerud. I love the story of how he chose Dr. Fager out of the “pack.” Do share it for everyone.
Thanks to both for the thrills!!!

Zenyatta lovely one: I agree wholeheartedly with the Kennedys.
Joan
Hey Z, you WERE the Breeders Cup, without you it would have been a disaster. Attendance was up just because of you. Dance your heart away big girl, you certainly deserve all the praise you receive.
Love ya Z.
Edie Dickenson
Without a doubt, Zenyatta, I can hear you whinnying, “YIPPEE!” and dancing for sheer joy!
Abigail
I just watched the 2 Nerud tapes on YouTube and they are just lovely to see. My, Zenny, but Mr. Nerud is sweet on you! The second tape (about the Breeders Cup) ends with him saying: “…she brought the people…she was the show…and God bless her.” That’s you he’s talkin’ about big girl! Thanks Dottie for telling us about this and good night + peppermint dreams to you, sweet girl.
Edie Dickenson
And, yes, Mr. Nerud is a legend. I believe that you are better than any HORSE I have ever seen, not just mares.

Hi Zenny,
Holy Carrot Sticks!, What a wonderful piece. I love getting information in this web site of yours.
I LOVE you Z, so much! :)
Sue Fredrick
WoW Zen, that is REALLY a big compliment, it’s like Vince Lombardi saying the Packers had a good team this year!!! But we all, of course, knew it anyway, still it’s nice to get compiments. I hope your big date is coming up soon, this waiting is really hard. Once we know you’re expecting we can settle down and work on names, etc.
@Dani and Catherine I missed posting yesterday but would like to add my prayers and wishes for your good health.
Well have fun running with the girls. Luv and kisses on your nose

@Paula Higgins: Your words sum it up beautifully, and I think they bear repeating. “She WAS the BCC. It was all about Zenny and everyone else was a footnote. As far as I am concerned her run down the stretch was the greatest thing I have seen since Secretariat’s Belmont. It was jaw dropping. It made who won and who didn’t irrelevant.”
These words finally capture what I have been thinking ever since Zenyatta’s 20th race. Thank you!
sue
Zenyatta – you and your team deserve all the respect anyone can give and more!
Paul
I could not get to the youtube video to hear Mr. Nerud’s compliments on you, Zenyatta, but I’m sure that everything he says about you is absolutely true. Judging from his picture, he looks pretty good for a man his age and he seems to get around pretty well. I hope that you had a good time playing with your friends today. Good luck with your meeting next week with Bernardini. Keep us posted.

You are not just the greates mare of all time You the greatest of all time. No other horse has or ever will run like you.
