Good Morning,
I hope all of you had a fun, happy and special Valentine’s Day! Mine was fabulous!
Firstly, so many of YOU sent me wonderful cards and gifts. I personally want to thank you. The carrots, peppermints and goodies were terrific! I shared them with my paddock friends. We enjoyed every single bite!
I was able to TANGO with Mrs. Moss and my friends in CA. I so love doing that.
Then, MY GUY, BERNARDINI…sent me a few photos of himself at the farm…and an adorable Valentine message. I gather his friend Charlie at Darley…helped him type the email message to Dottie for me.
It read…TELL HER…BERNIE SENDS HIS LOVE!
Now how cute is this! I’m pretty touched by his effort! Steve Haskin also sent some photos of Bernie to Dottie for me…and we think this one looks rather CUTE! Great ears, great face, fabulous eyes and a playful attitude munching on his lead shank! These are all qualities I find very attractive!
As many of you may know, I kinda’ have a thing for EARS! I feel they can be very expressive and tell a great deal about a HORSE. When I was an athlete, mine were always forward and relaxed. They showed how HAPPY I was when I was competing. Today, as I’m romping about in the field, they are the same way…forward, attentive…and showing how much fun I’m having! Body language can tell a great deal about how one is feeling and doing. In looking at this photo…Bernie’s ears look “too cute”. Lucky ME!
Have a terrific day…and enjoy yourself!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Zenyatta, you, and we, are so lucky that your Team are the wonderful people they are. I was just looking at the site Laura mentioned for Rachel Alexandra. Like you, she is a wonderful horse who did a lot for racing, she has many fans too, but they are starved of info. on her. There are a few nice pix of her in retirement, but it just makes me appreciate all Team Z do for your fans even more, if that is possible. I’m glad Rachel has a beautiful place to live and is well cared for. I also noticed she raised over $18,000. for cancer research, love that you girls are always thinking of others, even in retirement. Hope both your foals follow in your hoofprints. Bernardini sure is handsome! Has he gotten around a lot? How many kids and what are they like?
Diane
I just thought of a great name for your foal – Synchronocity – after the Police Album. A great moment in time for the perfect match!

I agree that this diary is hilarious. It really makes my Valentines day (even tho it was yesterday.) I also love to spend time with Zenny”s diary every night(no matter what time I get to it) and it always gives me good dreams. And Zenny, I understand how special ears are to you,(for me, I’m really into hands) and its wonderful that both you and Bernie each have such beautiful ears. I’m sure your baby will too. You are such a lucky, stunning, couple. Valentine love from me to both of you!.

Oh, Zenyatta your Mr. Bernardini certainly is a handsome dude. It looks like that twinkle in his eyes has your name in it.
Bye the way, is your statute available for purchase or is that creation just one of a kind? I may have missed your announcement.
Snoprinz
Zen,that was nice and thoughtful of Bernie to remember you on Valentine’s Day. How’s that for a first date! However, I have to check on Little Silver Charm @Old friends as some of you have mentioned.
Do let us know when your meeting with Bernie will be.Am so looking forward to seeing Zenyatta’s foals.Luv you Zen.

OMG Zenyatta, I just love reading your diary posts, and I love reading about you and Bernardini. It’s so darn cute! I cannot wait to hear more…Thank you!

Ears are good indicators. Don’t like horses with tiny ears, Bernies’ ears are perfect. If you go to Thoroughbred Horse Pedigree Query you can look up any horses progeny.

PS The inside of a horses ear, is the best smell in the whole world.

Please let us know as soon as you know if it will be a filly or a colt. Hope it is a filly with that beautiful white running down it’s face. See this is what anticipation does to one. Love you Zenny.

Lady Z–he’s just chomping to meet you…heh heh

You and he are two beautiful horses with lots of personality – love you, sweet girl!

Good Morning, Beautiful
I was researching top racehorse speeds
and came by this info: that
You
can breathe only through your nose
can only breathe in synch with your stride
have outsized spleens that release oxygen-rich red blood cells into the blood stream when you run
have a heart that can handle blood that thickens with the 50% increase in red blood cells
are the only animal, other than us, humans, that sweats through its skin
wow,
and another little tidbit: on one of your very early cousins
first horse domestication took place in the Botai Culture of Kazakhstan ca 5.500 yrs ago, 1000 yrs earlier than first thought!!! Imagine that,
and also about 2000 yrs earlier than the first domesticated horses were found in Europe. Your ancient cousins provided transportation, a meal and milk!!!
Anybody tries to milk you, kick that bucket quick. Totally outragous :) :)
Have a good day, eat your oates.

Hi Zenny:
Always great to “EAR” from you! Great picture of Bernardini. He is a really handsome fellow. I always loved to watch your ears when you were racing. Flopping away until you got serious and then pointed straight forward toward the finish line. You’re such a treasure.
Hugs & nose kisses.

He looks sensitive and intelligent, as well as incredibly handsome.

I am glad your happy Zenny but I sure miss reading, watching you race and hearing all the talk about you. I have grown quite fond of you and Rachel and miss both of you!!!
As far as Bernardini, he looks pretty classic in his plain brown wrapper!!
Good Luck Girl!!
Lots of love pointed your way

@Jeanne — thanks for the info. We must admit we have never smelled the inside of their ears. Hope we have the chance.
Linda (Canada)
I “liked” Bernardini’s Facebook page – the poor guy only has less than 500 fans! If he’s going to 1/2 of the new “power couple”, he should have more fans. :)

@J Smith — Thank you for the link to Rachel. She looks beautiful and happy and that makes us happy. One of our favorites, although Zenyatta will always be #1 in our hearts.

“Zenny Loves Bernie!” Maybe your filly should be ‘Bridget’ : ) We love you sweet Z…

Sounds like the EARS have it.
When we visited KY horse farms last November, several horsemen commented that Zenyatta has her grandfather’s ears (broodmare sire, Kris S).
Zenyatta finished her races with her ears pricked — a sign that there was more in the tank. She was not tired and did not take long to recover from the exertion. What a superhorse!

@Carolyn, @Gary, @JSmith and @LauraJ–really appreciate the links. Thanks to all, SuzanneG
