Good Morning,
I hope all of you had a fun, happy and special Valentine’s Day! Mine was fabulous!
Firstly, so many of YOU sent me wonderful cards and gifts. I personally want to thank you. The carrots, peppermints and goodies were terrific! I shared them with my paddock friends. We enjoyed every single bite!
I was able to TANGO with Mrs. Moss and my friends in CA. I so love doing that.
Then, MY GUY, BERNARDINI…sent me a few photos of himself at the farm…and an adorable Valentine message. I gather his friend Charlie at Darley…helped him type the email message to Dottie for me.
It read…TELL HER…BERNIE SENDS HIS LOVE!
Now how cute is this! I’m pretty touched by his effort! Steve Haskin also sent some photos of Bernie to Dottie for me…and we think this one looks rather CUTE! Great ears, great face, fabulous eyes and a playful attitude munching on his lead shank! These are all qualities I find very attractive!
As many of you may know, I kinda’ have a thing for EARS! I feel they can be very expressive and tell a great deal about a HORSE. When I was an athlete, mine were always forward and relaxed. They showed how HAPPY I was when I was competing. Today, as I’m romping about in the field, they are the same way…forward, attentive…and showing how much fun I’m having! Body language can tell a great deal about how one is feeling and doing. In looking at this photo…Bernie’s ears look “too cute”. Lucky ME!
Have a terrific day…and enjoy yourself!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Somewhere after Bernardini was announced as the selection for Zenyatta, we read that he is called “The Prince” at Darley. Can anyone confirm that? ‘Bernie’ sounds a little … well, … pedestrian for ‘The Queen.’
@J Smith — Thank you for posting the playful photo of Hootie in yesterday’s post. We had a number of conversations with him at Barn 55 — a friendly, handsome guy.

Thank you for making me smile. I appreciate this diary so much! It is letting us hang on to Zenyatta and the team.

@ENSIGN — So true, stallions do have the better end of the breeding experience. We did read that during the four month breeding season stallions lose a considerable percentage of their body weight.

Thank you for sharing that adorable Steve Haskin photo of Bernardini!! He is too cute!! I think it is so romantic that you got the picture for a Valentine – ah, love is in the air!! :) Wonderful!
@ Lois – thank you for sharing your story about Patrick and I am so happy for you that you have through Zenyatta found the strength to carry on to your first win with his half sister. That is beautiful and I appreciate your letting us know.

Zenyatta, I am glad that you had such a nice Valentines Day. I’m happy that you and your buddies enjoyed all the treats that you received. You are one lucky girl to have such a good looking guy like Bernardini. That is a great picture of him! Team Zenyatta is doing wonderful work for you! Tell them to keep up the good work! I can’t wait to hear how your relationship with Bernardini turns out or how your future foals turn out. To hear Mike Smith tell it, no male horse is worthy of a great, wonderful girl like you.

@ENSIGN
LOL!!
True! All things considered Bernie does have the better deal out of it but poor guy doesn’t even get to flirt or show off! It’s straight in, business done and back out to the pasture.
nancy
Bernardini has his eye on you Zenyatta.

Too cute…he is very handsome. He also must treat our Queen Z like a gentleman should treat a lady.

Z!! Sooo Bernadini sent you a Valentine! I bet he does not do that to just any other mare. He knows how lucky he is I think.(This is so much fun!) Oh yes, your ears, and his ears, that will make your foal very special! It is also the way you stand; takes my breath away!! I will look for a little bit of white on his/her nose.
Are you fallin’ for him Z!? love U so much, n a kiss on your soft nose.

Hi Zenny, I think that Bernardini is handsome for sure and you are right about the ears. I noticed his ears the very first time I saw a picture of him. Those ears and how they stand are important. I would love if your baby would have your personality. That is so much a great part of you. Good to hear that your Valentines Day was a Happy one. I bet it is alot of fun time when all the goodies come along and you get to share with your friends. It sounds like fun time for all of you. I always like to hear about these fun time stories that you tell about. I can just see it all in my mind. It is good for you to be happy at what you do. Will keep watching sweet Zenyatta. Love you.

Hi Zenny!
Glad you had a fun Valentines Day.
It’s so dear that Mr. B sent you a messege. He’s a VERY handsome boy _ perfectly proportioned!
His wide flat forehead tells that there are lots of brains between those big brown mischievious eyes!
I CANT WAIT TO SEE THE BABY FROM YOU TWO BREATH-TAKINGLY PUT-TOGETHER HORSES!!!!
I still think your first baby is going to be a little girl…ok, maybe a BIG girl ;)
Hugs & kisses to you, Gorgeous! Keep having fun! <3

This is absolutely precious Zenyatta! What a handsome guy he is, too! Did he send you any carrots or Guiness with this pics and note? That would have been the icing on the cake for you! I’m so glad you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! For the first time in a very lone time… so did I! Love you beautiful girl! :)

Had a chance to see Bernardini at CD for the Breeder’s Cup Classic. I could not take my eyes off him in the paddock. He has the look of a champion and the running style to make it look effortless.
Queen Z and he should make beautiful foals.
Jenna
I know it won’t happen but it would be sweet if Z&B could actually meet each other. I know I know, that’s not the ‘process’ but it would be nice.
Have a wonderful night, Dottie. Thank you so much for continuing to keep us up to day. The big ‘date’ is coming, I know. It’s all up to the big girl’s system.
Good night, Zenyatta. Big peppermint kiss. Sleep tight.
Nighty night.

Dear Zenny
This is the most hilarious post. I just love your description
of Bernie especially munching on his lead shank. He has
Beautiful kind eyes and very expressive ears. Glad he is
Enjoying life as a stallion. He was soooo serious on the race
Track with his ears back with determination to win.
So glad he has lots of experience probably with maidens
So everything should go smoothly and quickly in your
Very private moment. He plays the field just like you will only
A little more often. Have a wonderful evening and Sweet Deams.
Wishing you a speedy ovulation.

Beautiful Zenyatta, This is nifty news today that Bernardini contacted you! You are such a trend setter and we can hope that this is the beginning of other owners and trainers sharing their prized horses with the public. How nice too, that Dottie received other photos to share with us. Now, about this ear thing–the first time I saw you compete, my comment was your ears were not laid back but perky as if you were having fun and in all your other races, I saw the same posture so I know now that you were enjoying your job. You give so much good to this world in so many ways, how can we ever thank Dottie and you enough except to say you are simply the best of all things. Much Love to You and TeamZ.
Cindy
Bernadini has a wonderful face, very handsome, very, very intelligent eyes and those ears are just plain cute.
What a very nice Valentines Day for you Queen Z!

Zenyatta, I read the comment from “Lois in Canada” in today’s news. It is so heartbreaking when we hear of a horse breaking down. Lois, my heart aches for you and I congratulate you on your new joy with another horse. Zenyatta, see how much joy you bring to others? Thank you. Hugs and Prayers

Zenyatta, you entered my life fairly late in your career, when a friend of mine who is a cousin of Mr Moss sent me a link to a video of you, the one where your exercise rider wore a camera on his helmet so we all could “ride you” with him.
After seeing that video, I told my friend that I could tell from your ears even before he got on your back in the barn that you absolutely loved your job. There was such eagerness and happiness in the way you held your ears.
That was when I fell in love with you and knew how special you were because that kind of love of the job isn’t there for every horse unfortunately.
I am so glad your handlers let you grow into your job slowly, and didn’t force you to run before you were ready. I think that is part of why you loved it so much.
I think you and Bernardini will produce a foal with “happy ears” that will love his or her job as much as you loved yours.
Shari Voltz
Zenyatta I think Bernadini is very handsome. Thank you for sharing the picture. I agree with everyone else that you two make a really cute couple. Any baby you produce will be beautiful. Your family loves you so much that they would only pick a great guy for you. I feel so blessed to be apart of your life. Have a good night sweetheart. I love you. Hugs and kisses from Shari in Ohio XXXOOO
