Happy Saturday!
Wow! David just returned from a one day business trip to CA (also saw Dottie and John for a fun visit) and said it was 80 degrees there. This weather thing never ceases to amaze me! It is a bit chilly here still in Lexington…but I feel I’ve acclimated beautifully!
I wanted to show the Secretariat image that they gave Dottie as a gift as well. Here John has me ‘jogging playfully’ right beside BIG RED! What a thrill!
John also took a photo of us…side by side. He put HIM a bit in front…just so you could see both of us. Both Dottie and John felt that they did a wonderful job with our images…and this is truly a special gift they were given. A great way to remember the EVENT!
All else is going very well for me! I have put on a few pounds, I’m getting so many sweet notes and cards from all of you, and I am enjoying my time with my friends. Yesterday, Don Robinson (the man who foaled me and raised me at his farm until I went to the Yearling Sale) and his family came to visit me again. He called Dottie and told her HOW FABULOUS I LOOK! Don’s comment to her was…”ZENYATTA IS JUST SO HAPPY. SHE LOOKS AMAZING….AND YOU CAN SEE SHE IS ONE VERY HAPPY HORSE ENJOYING HER NEW LIFESTYLE!”
In truth, I REALLY AM! David was telling Dottie that there are times when he and Michael Cline (from our farm) watch me when I’m playing in my paddock…and they literally see me “JUMP FOR JOY”. I REALLY DO! I literally JUMP UP IN THE AIR WITH ALL 4 OF MY FEET and PLAYFULLY LOOK AROUND!
I have so much fun when I do this! Dottie thought hearing this was so adorable. She told David…she could truly capture this image in her mind. Ironically, my dear friend, SOPHIE SHIRREFFS does this same type of thing. Dottie and John tease about it all of the time!
So cute! I guess Sophie and I really do have LOTS in common! We are 2 very blessed and fortunate ’4 Legged Friends’!
Smile…have a wonderful Saturday…and TAKE CARE! I hope you can encounter something fun today which encourages you to JUMP FOR JOY!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

This baby is a real winner and after re-watching the video of the 2010 race, I’d say she’s the winner in my books. When you think about the terrain covered in such a short time (and if it weren’t for that split second change to get out of the crowd)
she would have made it well ahead of others. A real beauty… and what a pleasure to watch. Hats off!

Hi gorgeous girl…Guess what I got for valentines Day. Your Breyer Horse.. I love it but your far more beautiful… You and The Great Secretariat. It doesn`t get any better then that. I knew all along you both would wind up side by side. I would love to see you jump up on all fours. Maybe we can catch that on youtubr. Well, my dear, I guess your Valentine is “Bernardini”. I have a feeling you`ll be taking a ride to Darley VERY soon. Can`t wait.. Love you Zenny, Thanks Dottie…Big Hugs and Kisses ALENE

Ah yes, I forgot….. My French friends were jealous, and horse specialists think that if “no more races”, then going into dressage would be perfect. Yes, indeed… the dance moves seem so natural.

Really enjoyed the article on Thoroughbred Retirement.
It is such a currently sad and tragic issue. Levying these taxes on
The owners and breeders, who have the “big bucks”
Is ideal. Also, the broodmare article pointed out
A number of sad issues when the are no longer
Productive. However, a breeding operation in Ireland
Treats all Broodmares “like gold”.
Zenny is truely gold. It is soooo good to see you happy
Playful. I hope Don Robinson is there for your foaling.
Have a wonderful fun filled Sunday. Thanks for
Your inspiration. And thanks to all your connections
For continuing to share you with us!!!!

Dear, Zenyatta. Good morning, Miss Z. Here’s wishing you and the paddock gals have a great day kicking up your heels. Enjoy!!
Hugs and kisses.
@Jane in Seattle – Hello from Colorado. Hope you are having a lovely day in Seattle. So glad you liked the information about “Big Red.”
@The Kennedys – I had watched the video of Secretariat in his paddock before, but not for some time. Thank you for posting the link. It was so special to see him running free and jumping for joy!
When I visit Claiborne and Pulpit is in his stall, I can stand in front of Secretariat’s empty paddock and picture him there exactly as he was. Beautiful.
@Catherine Uher – Praying for a match!!!
@Paula McCaleb – I know it must be hard. As a caregiver, I hope you are receiving love and support also.
@Peggy – Haven’t seen a post lately. I know you have additional tests next week. Hope everything is well.

Hello Zenyatta: Just watched the video with Mr Don Robinson–I like the way he is with Zenny– sense of humor, laid-back kind of guy and is really in tune with her. I believe its easy to see how Zennys good-nature started– he is a real aniamal lover. Happy Valentines Day to you: Mr Robinson.

Am home sick today and just got to watch the “Secretariat Running from Within” video. It is breathtaking! Thank you so much for posting this very appropriate video here. What a pair they would have been together! Wow–it boggles the mind.

Poor Ferdinand, his name only gets mentioned when his ending is brought up. Would be nice if people remembered him equally for his wonderful career and connections…
His death has brought about some changes as far as selling stallions to foreign countries go though. I just hope this broadcast doesn’t hash up the whole ‘we shouldn’t sell horses abroad because they’ll eat them’ mania *here* that often ensues. We’re guilty of sending enough horses to slaughter every day that I don’t think we have much right to question all of Japan’s practices.

How sweet…all four legs off the ground!
I am so happy Zenyatta is happy, that is the most important thing. Have a wonderful day! The weather is getting milder, I think. I guess you’re happy either way.
Happy Sunday!
Eileen
I enjoy your blog soooo much. All I can say is, thanks to your team and to all your loyal fans that make so much good information available to all of us via the links that are posted here. Happy Valentine’s Day Z.

.
Thank you for link. Suggestions in articles sounds like a good start in the right direction. I was shocked to read that 35,000 horses are birthed every year! Wow!
.
BTW, at the bottom of that link is another link regarding caring for broodmares-also a VERY good write up. Here is link:

Happy Sunday beautiful Z. :)

I just viewed the video with Don Robinson on FB.
This answers my question about a horse’s memory. She remembered him from years before. Yay. This just made my little day. :)
Is it me or is she a snack machine?

Hi Zenny: I love this post!!! Your message is just wonderful!! Your tone is so happy and your words are so up-lifting!!! The models are just beautiful. Definitely something for Dottie and John to treasure forever. I am so glad to hear how happy you are at your home in Lanes End. Better be a little careful though, we don’t want John to feel bad! I am sure you miss your home at Barn 55 too! I am so envious of the CA weather. As I mentioned in my last note, it is cold, cold here in NJ. Hope the weather in Ky is a little warmer. However Spring is on its way. I hope you are getting ready for Valentine’s Day. So glad you received lots of treats. Everybody gains a few pounds in the winter. So don’t worry! Enjoy!! Love, Linda

‘Herb Alpert Unplugged,’ CBS Sunday Morning, February 13, 2011, http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7345697n&tag=cbsnewsMainColumnArea;cbsnewsMainColumnArea.3 features this EIGHT [8] Grammy Award-Winning jazz musician, and the ‘A’ in ‘A & M Records’ [Jerry Moss is the ‘M’]. Winsome, resilient, hip to the minute, making fresh music with his wife and collaborator of 37 years Lani Hall [their newest album comes out soon], contributes life-support to the Herb Alpert Foundation and the Harlem School of the Arts, while sculpting respected, state-of-the-art statuesque pieces, and pretty much doing anything they enjoy. Resonating from that ‘horn of plenty’ the initial hand-shake that began and ended their ‘A & M’ partnership, are ripple effects still embracing all he touches. And echo the press on ‘Z`s’ owners, with Mr. M. also featured.

Dear SUNNY: Beautiful beings who just happen to appear to us as horses .. . yes; beautiful. Thank You VERY much. K.

Dear SUNNY: Using your Link, I looked up one of my schoolmates from grade school; my information wasn`t enough to find him on Maya Lin`s Wall, but we know he`s there, remembered. What a sweetheart Jim Kirk was. Thank You, again. Kc.

I think the broadcast from the previews anyway
Is going to reflect his championship. With Bill Shoemaker and
His famous trainer interviewed as well. It seems it is
Going to be a Tribute. Hopefully not rehash all those
Other unpleasant issues. They are very sad .

Dearest LANIE: Scrolled upward & found your note. Too true, with politics being local, which can block remedies for a time, but there is the precedent of the Jericho tale, [a bit clattery] plus a concept, ‘soaking prayer,’ kind of like the successful soaking of a hard-baked casserole, very pedestrian and no lofty religious thing at all, but faith ‘the battles ARE ultimately won in the temples,’ — ultimately. If ever one sat on the side of the angels, it`s this all-encompassing comprehension of the spirit of Horse as good for the hearts of people. Soaking puts it into warm suds [In my imagination, ‘Dove’ works best, since ‘they’ found it effective after the Exxon-Valdiz spill for cleaning birds and sea life]. Let soak; refreshing only the warmth and suds, metaphorically. Surprising concept; calm, quiet, private; rewarding, once the tide turns. The arc of justice bends to virtue & godly mills grind slow, but exceeding fine. You need your sleep for those grandbabies.

Love the thought of you jumping up for joy… and you make so many of us jump for joy! Love and hugs.
Good luck to you friend Harmonious!

Hi Zen, you make me smile. I stop by just about every day to read your blog and to enjoy all the comments. It’s like having you nearby. Hope someday to be able to see you face to face, but until then I cherish this meeting place. BTW, did Bernadini send you some lovely red roses for Valentine’s Day? A box of chocolates, perhaps. He’s one lucky stallion having you as his date. Until next time, sending you lots of love…..

Just read latest good news about DynaKing (who was abandoned in desert almost 2 months ago) and heard he was rolling around the dirt and bucking while cantering which was first time he did that! Thank you Hearts of Tucson and to all the love and support from compassionate animal lovers! A good “jump up in the air for happiness story.”

Dear Z, Horses are suffering and being killed in research. This is very wrong just like any other cruelty. Dr.Page at the University of Kentucky put disease bacteria into 6 weanlings, monitored the progress of the disease and then killed all 6 of them including the 2 that remained healthy. THe disease is cured by antibiotics and the symptoms were already known, etc. He wants to make more weanlings ill and kill them. There are many others like him. They have purposely induced laminitis, for instance, caused immense suffering and then killed the poor horses. I have a book(A Horse Of Your Own) copyright 1963 that tells people to put hooves in a tub of cold water at the first sign of laminitis. It says treated rapidly it can be cured quickly and it is most often caused by poor stable management. It is a shame that many people who donated to “laminitis research” did not realize they were donating to people who were causing laminitis in previously healthy horses and then killing them. They unknowingly contributed to cruelty. Please tell your people to help end this kind of “research”.

Hi Zenyatta, hope you are having a wonderful day with your friends. I am so happy that you are enjoying your retirement, you certainly deserve it. Dear Dottie-Thanks so much for listening to the fans about videos and pictures of Zenyatta. You have done such a remarkable job in keeping the fans connectd to the horse and I appreciate it so much. It is one of the highlights of my day!

I’m glad that you respect the service of all those who went to Nam.
Zenyatta, the beautiful mare and her happy go lucky paddock friends, don’t know any of these things, and how good for them. And how good for them also that they know nthg of political events. Isn’t that to be celebrated?
Nancy
I am so glad that you are so happy in your new life. What fun you must be having! It so wonderful that we are able to see and feel a small part of it !
