Good Morning,
As I mentioned to you earlier, John took some great photos of the Santa Anita Celebration on February 5th. Here is one he especially liked…Mrs. Chenery, her daughter, Kate, Ann and Dottie…all celebrating the moment!
What an honor it is to have MY ANN and DOTTIE enjoying this day and the entire experience of the Secretariat Award with Mrs. Chenery and her daughter, Kate! A moment to remember and cherish forever! I know MY TEAM will!
John also got a close photo of the trophy that has been designed for this AWARD for you to see. My Team received the first one…but it will be used from this point forward to honor the occasion. The artist is holding it.
I often think about the fact that there are LOTS of people out there doing LOTS of GREAT WORK every single day!
In this month of Valentine’s Day…I am sending a special HUG to all of you. I know sometimes things aren’t easy….and you have to really dig in to get certain things and goals accomplished…but you keep trying hard and working diligently until you get it DONE! I KNOW…I’VE HAD TO DO THIS IN MY CAREER AS WELL. In the end, one hopes the hard work and effort proves to be worth it!
So…on a personal note from ME to ALL OF YOU…KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! People do notice! I can definitely state this from my personal experiences!
With Love,
Hugs to all~

John, Dottie…thanks so much for sharing these great pictures. Congratulations to all the members of Z’s Team. Won’t be long until Zenny meets her Valentine!

Mike Smith has a wonderful and close relationship with Zenyatta. They were a team on the racetrack. An animal knows when they are loved and when they are not loved. You can be sure that she would have not tolerated a rider she didn’t want. The “whip” in use now-a-days is not really a “whip.” It’s more like a popper. They can feel it, but it doesn’t hurt like a whip. Zenyatta was the most well cared for horse by everyone in her orbit. She was treated with love and kindness and she gave it back in full measure.

Dearest, Zenyatta. What a fantastic picture of some truly remarkable women! I admire each of them so much, for all of their accomplishments and generousity of spirit. So happy that Team Z is going to have such wonderful memories of a very special day. Both the statue above and the Secretariat award are beautiful, what a honor for the artist to have her work associated with such “racing royalty”. Let’s see, Ms. Chenery, Ann, Dottie, Kate, Jamie Corum (artist) and the sculptress and you, wow, what girl power on display. Thanks to all of those that give their best each and everyday in all that they do, ultimately we all reap the rewards. Loved your hug, Zenny!! I imagined it to be stong and soft and warm, with a dose of that great horsey smell (hard to describe) and maybe just a little wet around the lips. There is nothing quite like a horse hug. Sweet dreams, my love. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@Barbara Wood – Thank you so much for you post yesterday!
@Karen Mitchell – I am very sorry for the loss of your husband. I know each of us must heal in our own way, in our own time. I wish you, peace, strength, happiness and love.
@Kathryn Cogswell – Thank you for the connection to “The Vault”, it is absolutely wonderful. And thank you, Abigail!!

Oh, Dottie, wanted to comment on your comment about not giving up. Much needed for many of us I think.

Dear All Who Love The Lady ‘Z’ & her Major Family; and we who came on board at our different times, bringing our personal vantages: With knee-jerk presumptions, over several incidents, writing I sent LEF landed as insults, criticisms they read as bearing no merits. Whatever I may have intended, with some apologies as well, words I used offended a respected, albeit, guarded, institution of renown. ~ Now, with the passing since before Thanksgiving, and again early in the Tucson Morning of Shootings, two matriarchs of my family — on both sides — left us after reaching well-past their ninetieth birthdays. Inheritances that last tend to come more from memories than properties; so my hopes for future personal notes will be that they contain my truths, yes, but more than that, I want them to contribute constructively to ‘The Great Conversation’ our invitations here permit. We have seen Zenyatta move from a known and given security we took for granted, because we came to trust her Family and their intentions for her. But there were dangers for her out on the tracks she covered; for me, all that was lessened because of her preparations. It was not my place to question the choices made for her then; neither should I have leapt to judge their later choices for her. ~ Now, to the extent there is something that writes and furthers her story and those rippling around her with veracity and generosity, that is the best contribution for me to make. So her babies inherit worthwhile goodness from us, as well; and happy memories. Khc.

I love you. Enough said.

Hey big girl,
I loved seeing you with Mike on the farm. You always look so beautiful and happy. I love seeing videos and pictures of you frolicking with your girlfriends in the field. Shame, shame on people saying you don’t love Mikey. If they had seen all your interactions all the years you were racing together they would not think that. It’s very obvious you love Mikey and he definately adores you. Many jockeys can and do love the horses they ride. I remember once not to long ago seeing Mike on a horse that broke down on the turf and before anyone could get to Mike to check him out he was up runnibg to the horse’s side. Just because a jockey has a job to do doesn’t mean they don’t care for the animal. Many, many do.
By the way, I’m not fond of the name Driven To Tears at all. Sounds way too sad. Someone in an earlier post said something about the word amaZing. I think that sounds like a great name with all lower case letters except the Z. Fitting for the first foal of our beloved QUEEN! Talk to you soon big beautiful one.
Love, Lori

Do you have any barn cats or dogs at Lanes End?

Zenny, thanks for sharing the photos. Such great momentos of a very special day. All the ladies there were very courageous people, especially the one to receive the first award….Z! Of course the gentlemen were very special too. Hugs to you Zenny and especially to your family who have been so good to us fans.

Good evening Zenyatta,
I was finally able to watch the ‘Valentine’ video with you and Mike Smith and also Sarah’s ‘Zetty’s smootching Sarah’ video. And I saw right away that the malfunction of the video on my comp gave me a distorted view, which was totally corrected by today’s opportunity. It really was a very nice get together you guys had, and it also looked like you got the better of Mr. Smith for the most part. Hehehe. That stuff with the mints, priceless. Real giggle stuff, and so was Sarah’s video. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Only thing I found a little wanting is the carrots. Now here, did Mr. Smith not proclaim on national tv that you were the most exquisite horse he’s ever known, and that no one was good enough for you?? Hmm, where were the big carrots, like the ones your people brought to you, footers w the green, instead he feeds you these measely little stumps from a plastic bag as that. That’s why a girl’s best friends are carats not carrots :) Ha ha ha :)
Last Saturday’s must have been a swell gettogether, it certainly seemed to have been well visited, everybody was very gracious, especially Mrs. Chenery, and the Secretariat bust is exquisite.
I noticed some people are getting their feathers ruffled, I don’t think there’s an anti-jockey movement lurking its head, my response was to that Zenyatta doesn’t kiss Mr. Smith. And she’s a smootchy one, is from my point, that she is showing a vulnerability, which she wouldn’t to sby who waves sthg at her to accellerate her speed, no matter how nice/beautiful that person is. It is perceived as a threat, that’s why it’s being used, otherwise it would be useless, a mere decorative hand thing. So nby is attacking Mr. Smith.

Dearest Sweet “Z”,
You have truly displayed the Spirit of ‘Determination.’ Everything worthwhile takes effort; even when we get dirt kicked in our face, we must continue… win or lose. For doing “God’s Will” is nothing more than lovingly fulfilling our duties and obligations He has given us. Hence, we stay at our our Post.

Hi Zenny: What a lovely picture of everyone on your special awards day. You are so right about being determined with everything you do. I am learning to play the piano. I always wanted to take lessons when I was a kid. Well as an adult–I am working and running here and there so it is hard to fit in practice time with such a busy schedule. Well today’s post gave me a lot of encouragement: we do need to really dig in to get certain things and goals accomplished and keep trying hard and working diligently until it is DONE! With that said, I was determined to find the time to practice this evening; and going forward, I will make it a point to continue with your very positive attitude. Thank you Zenny for doing me a good turn.

Thank you so much for your words. They made me cry….. Zenyatta and her team are on my mind everyday and I am stronger for it. Zenyatta’s pictures are on my desk at work, my computer password includes part of her name … There will never be another horse that deserves the award as Zenyatta. I have always been a horse lover and a racing fan for 45 years and have never been so touched as by Zenyatta and her team. God bless you all.

Dearest Zenny:
You are an inspiration every day.

Hi Zenyatta. What great pictures John takes. We just got a new camera, taking classes and hopefully, when we visit, we will know how to use it!!! Love you Angel in Disguise. Keep toasty, have fun with your BFFs and may your dreams all come true. Happy Valentine’s Day, that is our wedding anniversary, and it will be a wonderful day for you. Love you.
Cheryl
What a great day! I think Ann Moss is such a fantastic person – she is so genuine and real – JUST LIKE YOU ZENNY!! Are you guys sisters in a separate dimension – or maybe the same person? It seems like there is a special bond between you and that she feels everything that has to do with you deeply. So have there been any decisions in the foal naming? There was this very strange idea on one of the posts about a song title – cant even remember now – but it was all wrong – probably why I cant remember it! LOVE YOU LITTLE LADY! Spring is coming! Can you feel it?

Dear Queen-Z & Team-Z,
Thanks for the pictures of 5 distinguished women of racing. That was very nice of you to share! I enjoyed being at Santa Anita last Saturday. The video of you at Lane’s End was super!!
Take care and stay well. Much love and hugs to all. Fondly, OraJean
Barbara Wood
@ Sherpa–thanks for the youtube link. I think it’s really important that she is able to keep contact with her “first” family as well as her new friends at LE.
Perhaps more horses would adjust well if they had that continuation of contact.
Good night and sweet dreams, precious one. Love you always.
Lynn ....from California
Hi big Z,
In this forum I feel we are all together, as a family, with you and your kind words. You have allowed us to be inside this ongoing history with you. I appreciate that more than you know.
I read so much about you. Every issue of Blood Horse magazine has an article or mention about you. I’m glad I suscribed.
BTW – One of my friend’s horse is due for a foal any day now. Her 2nd one. I’m so happy you will be going down that rode too.
Love you Z
gerry yeager
I certainly respect the opinions of those who question the use of the bat and the horse’s memory as to who used it,and how.
BUT remember Zenyatta is a thoroughbred racehorse that just happened to become one of the greats in racing history…she didn’t do it just by being pretty and posing for the fans…she did it with a talented jockey on her back that she let ride her to perfection. I’m sure if she had a voice she would say that Mike was as good to her as he could be…and if there was not that undeniable link between them…she would not be where she is today.

Dear Z and everyone, I finally had to watch the video of Mike and you with the music turned off to get a sense of the interaction. It reminded me of the way my gelding interacts with me. I imprinted him at birth and he has this sense of possessiveness with me. I worried about Mike with no hat and tearing open the mints with his teeth. I finally learned to open them by squeezing underneath the mint with my thumb and index finger. They pop out very quickly, the horse is happy and my teeth are intact. It seemed strange to see them together in such a different setting and I felt sad knowing John would never be giving Mike a leg up again. However, am so looking forward to Zenyatta and foal.

Z – your words were PERFECT for today. How did you know? I needed your encouragement. Thanks so much, and lots of love coming your way….muaahh!
Waiting for Zendini or Bernyatta
Penny must be so happy to have seen YOU get this award. She’s been involved now with THE two best horses – YOU and SECRETARIAT.
