Good Morning,
As I mentioned to you earlier, John took some great photos of the Santa Anita Celebration on February 5th. Here is one he especially liked…Mrs. Chenery, her daughter, Kate, Ann and Dottie…all celebrating the moment!
What an honor it is to have MY ANN and DOTTIE enjoying this day and the entire experience of the Secretariat Award with Mrs. Chenery and her daughter, Kate! A moment to remember and cherish forever! I know MY TEAM will!
John also got a close photo of the trophy that has been designed for this AWARD for you to see. My Team received the first one…but it will be used from this point forward to honor the occasion. The artist is holding it.
I often think about the fact that there are LOTS of people out there doing LOTS of GREAT WORK every single day!
In this month of Valentine’s Day…I am sending a special HUG to all of you. I know sometimes things aren’t easy….and you have to really dig in to get certain things and goals accomplished…but you keep trying hard and working diligently until you get it DONE! I KNOW…I’VE HAD TO DO THIS IN MY CAREER AS WELL. In the end, one hopes the hard work and effort proves to be worth it!
So…on a personal note from ME to ALL OF YOU…KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! People do notice! I can definitely state this from my personal experiences!
With Love,
Hugs to all~
Z

Great photos. Looked like it was a wonderful day to celebrate a special horse with some very special people.

So glad Ms. Chenery was there to present the award. I saw her meet Zenyatta in the winner’s circle at Hollywood Park after the Lady’s Secret last October. Zenyatta was gracious to her and I could tell Penny loved meeting her. I also got to meet her daughter Kate at a book signing in Denver; her Secretariat book is beautiful. I’d love to write a book about Zenyatta one day. She’s an inspiration.

You are such an inspiration…I was laid off my job and I am having a really hard time finding another one. I was starting to feel depressed thinking about losing my house but…your words remind me not to give up, that if I keep trying, it will eventually pay off. Thank you…

Z you have taught all of us how to dig in and work hard, and I thank you for that. You have also taught us how to love one another, and to remember all the little things in our lives that really matter. Love You Big Girl, and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Thank you Z (and especially Dottie) – I needed that “pep talk” today! I think you and Dottie must be psychic – you seem to know when we all need a long distance hug! Great picture – I saw Secretariat run in the day and I’m still in awe of him (and Mrs. Chenery) for all they accomplished. Love that they have the poster listed as King and Queen of Racing – so true.

Oh, Zenny! Once again you remind us of what is important in life. You always overcame every obsticle put in your path.
And, thankfully, you were surrounded by total love from the first moment of your life. The pictue is awesome. Gread ladies gathered together to celebrate two great horses…what can be better than that!

Hi Zenny!
The award is so beautiful ~ just like YOU! It was great to be there to share the moment with your loving family. XO
Peeps are asking me when Ann will let us know where, or how, they can get the Z pin! I tell them, it’s not like I can call Ann and ask her… so I’m asking Dottie here: where can people get a Z pin? Thanks!
HUGS & KISSES XOXO

Another great equine work of art. I’m particularly fond of the one of Zenyatta.

To Sunny Boyd: Thank you for this astute reflection on Diary Post #80–“it doesn’t surprise that she doesn’t kiss Mike, this whip thing is to scare horses to run faster, our Zetty isn’t stupid, Mike /whip : I’m free. Even though this whip isn’t supposed to hurt, still no being/creature 4/2 legged/ fins wants to feel the whip. Being in the racing mode, horses having been declared ‘beast of burden’ by humans Zetty took it in stride/part of the deal. Also according to Mr. Shirreffs she did everything they, Team Z, asked her to do, so she felt the whip less than most, but being tenderhearted she remembers it well. I think she has more of a professenional relationship with him. Not like the horsin’ around with Mario and the others at the barn, those guys were her buddies. Any way this stuff is really interesting, Mr. Smith comes across as a nice guy from the 60 Min. show. but his profession is that of a jockey, and with that comes control/work/anxiety/ stress for her. She remembers that.”
Someone posting on the Facebook page also made a perceptive observation that she thought Mike loved Zenyatta more than Zenyatta loved him.
No prey animal whose vision is almost 360 degrees wants to see something that hurts (however mildly) not go away–always there behind them, even if only waving in the air.

Lady Z is the Mare answer to Secretariat. A true breath taking winner!

Simply the Best must have been a song that was written for you Zenny. I think it should be your next music accompaniment. You and your team are enriching people’s lives each and every day.
Maryann
Thank you Z for your kind words and hugs. I know you faced challenges in your career also and I know you didn’t get there except by hard work on your part and your the support of your team. My job is due to be phased out in 3-4 months and so I will be again looking for work. I will remember your words and take heart in them as I look for my next career,

Zenyatta, YOU ROCK!!! YOU should be on the cover of The Rolling Stone…… I love YOU Z and will be waiting for your next post. The above photo of the ladies is beautiful. In reading about your John I discovered we were born in the same year. (*_*) He is June 1st and I am July 14th. Funny huh….. Notice I did not mention the year… (*_*)

To BorntoBreed: I noticed Bernadini’s ears as compared to Zenyatta’s as well. His seemed pinned flat back–for streamlined speed, angry at the whip, simply style or habit?
Zenyatta’s ears on the other hand–big ears that mare’s have b/c they oversee the herd’s safety, especially the lead mare–were mobile, sometimes midway between forward and back, sometimes one forward and the other back (in a relaxed manner), and most winningly both ears pricked forward as she ran, especially when she overtook the last horse she had to defeat.

Zenny, you are truly an inspiration! Not only are you the most perfect, beautiful horse God ever created, but you are kind, funny and a joy to be around. I spent a few minutes with you in Louisville back in November and I hope you and your family (especially Mario and Steve who were so kind) realize how much it meant to me and my friend Edie. I love the fact that you and your family offer such encouragement and love–this is truly special. Love you!
Maggie
Warm hugs to you Zenny and also to Dottie!!

Hi, Z, Sorry to notice this, but that is not the Secretariat Award….I, too, took close up photos of the award, and the artist (Caroline) made that award for the Mosses of our Z. Sorry to point this out, it still is a beautiful likeness of you as usual! The real award is a likeness of Secretariat, just as beautiful! LOVE YOU Z! Karen Long Beach

Ah Zenny, as I have said before, you are an inspiration to all of us. Glad you had a nice visit with Mike. I have ordered the poster with you and Big Red. The two best horses I have had the pleasure of seeing!
