Good Morning,
As I mentioned to you earlier, John took some great photos of the Santa Anita Celebration on February 5th. Here is one he especially liked…Mrs. Chenery, her daughter, Kate, Ann and Dottie…all celebrating the moment!
What an honor it is to have MY ANN and DOTTIE enjoying this day and the entire experience of the Secretariat Award with Mrs. Chenery and her daughter, Kate! A moment to remember and cherish forever! I know MY TEAM will!
John also got a close photo of the trophy that has been designed for this AWARD for you to see. My Team received the first one…but it will be used from this point forward to honor the occasion. The artist is holding it.
I often think about the fact that there are LOTS of people out there doing LOTS of GREAT WORK every single day!
In this month of Valentine’s Day…I am sending a special HUG to all of you. I know sometimes things aren’t easy….and you have to really dig in to get certain things and goals accomplished…but you keep trying hard and working diligently until you get it DONE! I KNOW…I’VE HAD TO DO THIS IN MY CAREER AS WELL. In the end, one hopes the hard work and effort proves to be worth it!
So…on a personal note from ME to ALL OF YOU…KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! People do notice! I can definitely state this from my personal experiences!
With Love,
Hugs to all~

I just loved this post #81 !
Thanks for the words of inspiration & the photos were wonderful.I enjoyed reading everyones comments too , especially the debate about the whip (Racing bat ).Like one poster said , “she learns a little something each time ” Me too !
I am one who believes there is a use for a ‘whip’ PROPERLY used and to be used as a signal-or-aid for the horse. The whip should never be feared by the horse , and this is the manner in which Mike Smith rides & so uses the bat as an aid.
Anyone can see how much ZENYATTA loves Mike & she has never shown fear or resentment. When the horse is asked to surge forward and pass another horse & the whip is used back of the hip and lower by the flank , this simulates the claws of a predator and incites the horse to race forward with even more energy, BUT the whip must be used at the right moment and used sparingly less it have no effect,(And the horse become dull to it ) this racing bat does not hurt a horse and should never leave a welt on the skin. If so, then the whip has been used improperly.
Anyway, there is my “two cents” on the use of whips in racing or any other riding or training.

Hi, Zenny! This video is so cute! At one point, it looks as though you’re thinking, “Somebody PLEASE help this man get my peppermints open!” You ARE too cute. I’m so happy that Mike finally got back there to see you again. He was SO excited last Saturday at Santa Anita when he told us that he was going to see you in a couple of days! I know that feeling! (Shhhh…he still thinks “no one is worthy.”) That was an extremely awesome day–to meet Penny Chenery and her daughter Kate–and even more amazing to see almost everyone from Team Z together with them in one place. Everyone was so gracious, kind, and patient. I want to say something about being in the presence of truly living legends, but can’t find the words to describe the feelings of wonder and awe–kinda like seeing you! That was truly an historic day, and we missed you so much. (Dottie, thank you for bringing Queen Z to the big screen!) I also want you to know that the fans there that day would have been a lot louder actually had it not been for having to hold our posters, books, DVDs, and cameras to record this special honor of yours, but Mrs. Chenery said it all for us, “Woo–HOO!!” Happy Valentine’s Day, sweetie, to you and all your gal-pals!

Hey, Girl. Wazup?
I’ve been caching up on some of the races your were in. All the more I’ve been noticing that you’re better than I thought you were
!
I’ve always known you were great though.
Look forward to your next post!

Yes, we CAN say Secretariat and Zenyatta in the same breath. What a complementary award. He was my childhood hero. I hope to meet you someday Z, as I was not lucky enough to meet Secretariat. Instead, I have one of his grandsons!

I’ve never written to a horse before, but there’s never been a horse like you, now has there, Zen? I wanted to let you know your message of encouragement today was just what I needed to hear. I’ve had to take a job that I’m not sure is right for me, but felt I didn’t have a choice because my husband lost his job in 2009 and has only been able to find temporary things since. After reading today’s post, all I have to do is close my eyes and picture you finishing one of your races in your unforgettable style. Then I smile and think, I’ll be able to do this, too! Thank you for that.
(P.S. Drove from Kokomo, IN to see you at Keeneland in Dec. Hope there is an opportunity for the public to see you again–next time I’m bringing my mom because she’s another fan.)

You certainly deserve this award. I can’t think of another horse since Secretariat more deserving. I know you hear this from all of your fans all of the time but we really miss you. It is comforting to know that you will live out your life in comfort surrounded by people who care for you but we sure will miss you on the track performing at a level no other horses can match. We won’t see your like again for many years, if ever. We love you.

Zenyatta, congratulations on winning that Secretariat award last Saturday. It is a beautiful award and you are 100% deserving of it. Penny Chenery, her daughter Kate, Ann Moss, and Dottie Ingrido(sp?) Shireffs (again, sp?) couldn’t be prouder of you. Keep up the good work! I wish I could have been there to see it awarded to you!

You know, I really needed to hear those words. I have recently started business as a farrier and have been somewhat down at the slowness of my business’ growth. I know that I do a good job and the horses whose feet I take care of appreciate it, but it’s hard to remain confident and upbeat when I still have only a few clients. But I just need to dig in and put my name out there some more. Thank you for your words of support for all of us, whether we’re in the equine industry or not. We always supported and believed in you, so it’s good to know that you and yours believe in and support us as well.

Oh Z; Just tried facebook. I don’t know if I missed this on your diary, but I love your words. Yes, I do hope my son will find a professional job soon. He has my three grandchildren to support. I pray, just like I did every time before your race. Love U with a kiss on your soft nose3
