Good Morning Everyone,
It’s been a busy, busy few days…for sure! Today is the SUPER BOWL…and we are very excited. P.Q. and I have been really looking over the stats for the GAME and the strategies we would apply to try and decide WHO we think will win! Oh, how I love SPORTS!
Well, after much thought and analysis…I really can’t decide who I like the best. I guess it comes down to just LOVING THOSE ADORABLE FANS from Green Bay who will WEAR THOSE BIG HUNKS OF CHEESE ON THEIR HEADS.
As an individual who LOVES the way all of my FANS SUPPORTED ME…I must say that is what is so fabulous with GREEN BAY! So…I’ve gotta’ love them for this reason.
Speaking of fans…yesterday was amazing. My TEAM, my FANS and Mrs. Chenery are so special! The ceremony was delayed a bit…until after the 6th race. So sorry we did not know this in advance to alert you. I guess this is part of LIVE ACTION on TV. But…everything was fabulous and the day was one to remember! I will share photos John took with you soon.
For now, Dottie did get the special YOU TUBE link from Santa Anita…HRTV for YOU!
AND…HAPPY SUPER BOWL SUNDAY! I better go get my CHEESE HEAD HAT on…to watch the game! (I love this TEAM SPIRIT FAN ENTHUSIASM stuff! It is GREAT FUN!)
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

Peggy, Thanks for posting the Miami reader’s comments. I think the writer was able to put in wonderful words, what we all feel.

it warms my heart to see you so happy, playing and enjoying your time doing what horses love to do.
I wish all retired horses have the same quality of life and I know your team supports charities that give them a chance or even a second career.
I saw on HRTV there was a story about FERDINAND coming on, I had not heard of him but was shocked to read what happened to him.
That is my wish that it does not happen to another champion or any other horse that is retired or not able to win races.
I know this is an impossible dream but you and your family give me hope.
Dani
@Borntobreed – thanks for that. I hope P.Q. isn’t heart broken when/if they are separated. Or am I putting human emotions into this?
Lauren
Dear Zenny – The picture of your and your best buddy are fabulous. What else were you girls talking about – lol. Since you like sports so much, can you put in a good word for the Lakers. Love the Lakers and love you too Zenny.
Hugs and Kisses.

Kitei, Thanks for the cheesehead Zenyatta, too cute thanks for the youtube Team Zenyatta, i love watching anything about Zenyatta, sorry we never got anything with her rolling in mudpuddles, maybe you can catch her soon doing that. I just LOVE the Queen!!
Bobbie from WI
Yeah, Packers!!! What a game and I agree the Packers have the BEST fans except for yours of course. I love being able to support both of you. Loved the award presentation on Saturday and your video with your girl friends. I’m sure all who were there or watching on TV were glad to see that you have adjusted so well to retirement. It is not an easy thing to do.
Congrats to the Moss’ on Zazu’s win also.

@Dani,
Actually horses can become VERY attached to one another and unfortunately it can become a serious pain in the butt and even dangerous. I had a horse who had an admirer and while my horse was fairly neutral, her admirer would run himself sick in a stall, break through paddock fences, dump his rider and run back to us, if separated from my horse. Eventually he had to be moved to an entirely different farm for his safety.
Though my experience is an extreme one, I believe that LEF introduced the other two mares into Z’s band in an effort to make certain something like this is avoided. If PQ or any of the other mares need to be separated from the paddock buddies, the other two are there for support and everybody remains calm and happy.

Good Morning Zetty,
I have a coed, that’s why I can say Good Morning :)
My goodness I hope you don’t get your heart broken, if you don’t see P.Q. or Sea gull or the others anymore, see, that just confirms how much sensitivity you great creatures posess.
I’m always dumbfounded and rather annoyed at the notion some people seem to carry that the 4/2 legged ones are just dumb animals, and whatever that definition implies to those people.
Having been in rescue and a pet guardian and wild life observer all my life just know better. Through careful observation of our tame/wild companions throughout our lives we can read natural environment before the tv weather guys/or EPA can turn it into a drama forecast.
What are all the horses your Jerry & Anne Moss own and are running?
And what are your John Shirreff’s horses ?
Could we get a list? Here? :) :)
So we could follow them, too :)
Well, have a good helping of oats, carrots, and hay :)
Sabrina
ZenGoddess, you are the greatest! Can’t wait to see your babies with Bernardini.

Cannot see too much video of Zenyatta and her paddock buddies. Horses do form strong attachments to particular horses. Hope they can stay together through their first foals, but I understand that the farm will group them with mares who foal around the same time so that the foals are close in age — size and developmental stage. Perhaps Ensign and others can address these issues.

I finally watched the clip of Zenyatta attached to the awards presentation and loved it! It is the first extended clip I’ve seen with her girlfriends and it was adorable. I now have may visual….she looked soooo happy. Playing and kicking up a storm. Also, thought horses watching from other paddock was priceless. Thank you for the clip….answered a lot of questions for me. :)

Very nicely put answers by L and The Kennedys :-)
.
Horses, particularly broodmares that are kept strictly as broodmares (and don’t do anything else with their time) can become extremely herdbound and as ‘L’ noted, can be a major PITA for anyone who has to deal with them.
.
Zenyatta is buddied up with a few mares so that when one leaves to be bred, have their feet done, vet checks, etc. they don’t have to turn one out alone with no buddy. There will probably still be some yelling and pacing on the part of the one left behind, but it’s certainly lessened having other mares with them. Where they’re all maiden mares and will likely be bred around the same time chances are they may stay in that group as they foal, as The Kennedys mentioned.
.
All horses can have a tendency to become herdbound of course. It’s more trouble normally for people who want to ride their horses and do something with them (as L noted) than for ‘career broodmares’. It can definitely be trying though for those trying to make a riding horse out of a former broodmare LOL ;-)

Thank you Dottie and Lane’s End/HRTV, YOU TUBE, EVERYONE that had anything to do with the posts with the video. There are some great you tube videos on the internet re: Zenyatta! The picture of Z with a cheesehead hat would be priceless for sure. She is their good luck charm for sure. The ceremony was wonderful – even on the internet and everyone looked terrific. Mrs. Moss was so wonderfully emotional about her baby. Thanks so much for all your work Dottie in bringing her to us all the way from Kentucky. We do miss her in Ca. Congratulations to ZAZU too!!!
Learning so much from some of the posts on Z’s website.
Cheers, Delrene

Dear Queen Z,
Loved seeing you and your girlfriends during the award ceremony. It puts a smile on my face to see you so happy and getting to be a regular mare with the joys of motherhood awaiting you soon.
I hope the sun is coming your way and that your day is filled with fun and treats.
Love you!

Thank you, ENSIGN. We had an experience a few years ago at Vessels’ horse auction. As we were walking through the stable area while the auction was ongoing in a nearby tented area, we noticed a young filly who was pacing and whinnying loudly in her stall, obviously distressed. We asked a groom about the matter. He said her buddy who had been stabled next to her and who had come to the auction from the same farm had been taken to the auction ring and was therefore out of her sight. The filly continued this behavior until her filly buddy returned. They touched noses and she immediately calmed down and returned to her feed. A lasting impression for us. However, at the end of the day, it is probable that they were both sold to different owners and would never see each other again.

Hey there Z!
I am one of those cheeseheads so thanks so much for your support! Go Pack!

Zen,
Reading many of the comments made about horses just shows the connection that is made in the animal kingdom among so many. It is often said that human creatures are the cruelest to each other.Zen has demonstrated by her very actions how tender a species can be. Would like to share a site for those who are interested in eagles and their lives.

PLEASE KEEP THE POST COMING… IT IS SO NICE TO KEEP UP WITH WHAT IS GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE. LOVE YOU SO MUCH!

Zenyatta, you have endeared yourself forever to my husband who is a lifelong Packer’s fan. I am not a football person – I love horses and enjoy all horse-related things. You are such a joy to everyone and you are so blessed to have “Team Zenyatta,” AND Penny Chenery among your admirers. All horses should have love like you have. I hope you are enjoying your retirement and your new friends in Kentucky, both equine and human. Never forget how much we all love you!

Dottie, Thank you for making the HRTV presentation available to all. Kitei, Great job & fun photo. Zenny, As a Steeler fan, forgive me if I’m feeling a little blue at the moment, (maybe green). Think I just need someone like you to “eat some cheese with”. Care to join me? GOT CHEESED. . .still & forever Love YOU & The BLACK & GOLD! HUGS

Hi Kennedys,
.
Yes, herdbound behaviour comes in lots of forms, from a few whinnies and pacing to the fence wrecking behaviour L noted in a story above.
.
It’s very much a postitive vs negative having horses ‘buddied up’. It’s great for the horse and helps out the humans by them having a good pal sometimes, other times it’s a royal PITA, mostly for the human who has to deal with then temporarily breaking up the pals LOL.
.
Horses really don’t have a lot of say or control over their lives as your recollection about the sales babies shows. Shame they don’t all draw the lucky card that Zenyatta did.
Dani
@ L, Ensign and the Kennedys – thank you for all the information to my question about horses and their emotional attachments to one another. I really appreciate finding these things out as I rarely have the opportunity to be around them and so I don’t know their behaviour all that well. I’m way too sensitive about the welfare of animals, both their physical and emotional sides so I’m glad to know they do have a herd mentality. But of course, the separation anxiety some have does make me a bit sad.

I don’t have a whole lot of knowledge of things equine, tho I love that I’m learning more every day, and I was curious about Zenyattas’ sweet BBF, Pirate Queen. On Bloodhorse it tells me that she is out of Unbridled Song by Be Gentle by Tale of the Cat ( if I’m saying that right) and she was purchased by WestRidge stables for $700,000. That’s a lot of money, and I wondered if she has ever raced or just purchased as a broodmare? Anyway, she is really charming and adorable and a lovely adoring friend for Zenyatta.
ENSIGN
@ Myrna,
.
Pirate Queen only raced three times, winning none. Obviously she failed to deliver on the promise her pedigree and conformation suggested, given her purchase price.
Unsuccessful in one career, hoping for better success in her second one…

The Green bays. Not a big football fan. I’m not. Much more of a racing fan…

Z; love the photo! I have two emotions right now, the fun with cheese heads-hats for the Pack! so cute & funny-GO PACK! (its’s my Wi. team) and then clicking on U tube. I was touched that I cried tears of happiness. Secretariat became the greatest of all time & Mrs. Chenery knew the fans loved him. She recognized that same special love & awe, us fans feel for Zenyatta. She is one terrific lady. love you Z n a kiss on your soft nose.
L
@Myrna,
To follow up on your other question.
A horse is “By” Stallion’s name and “Out of” Mare’s name.
Hannah Huling
Speaking of ‘By’ and ‘Out of’. Who were you by and out of Zenny?
Luv ya’! = )
