Good Morning Everyone!
Well, it has been a very busy morning here at the farm. The camera crew arrived at 7:30 and went immediately out to see me in the paddock. It was rainy and a bit foggy…but they feel they got some wonderful footage of me playing in the field with my friends. I think I looked ‘terrific’ as well. Hair, nails…and overall ME…in GREAT SHAPE!
Today is the day of the Secretariat Award. Last night, there was a small dinner party for Mrs. Chenery which John and Dottie attended. They had a wonderful, wonderful time. John so loves RACING HISTORY. Above is the photo he has had for years of SECRETARIAT which hangs in his office at the house. He looks at it every single day…with GREAT RESPECT for what Secretariat accomplished, achieved, and the manner in which his efforts have truly helped our sport and his fellow horses.
John felt it was truly a GREAT honor to be able to visit with Mrs. Chenery last night on such an intimate level…and discuss HER BIG RED!
Too cute…John will blush at this…but he even wore a blue/white checked shirt in honor of her silks. How adorable! (You know my John…DETAILS DO MATTER!)
Now….as for all of the fans being able to view the different things happening today…Dottie has been working with Amy Zimmerman from HRTV trying to make this happen. We know many of you do not have HRTV or your cable companies do not carry it. It is cold outside in so many parts of the country so you are not able to get out to go to a track setting. So….we have tried to work out some special things for YOU!
Per Amy…’Today’s presentation will be available in several places. It will be live on HRTV and streamed live on HRTVlive.com…which is the network’s subscription platform. Immediately following the presentation (or as immediately as technology allows), it will be available FREE OF CHARGE on HRTVlive.com through HRTV’s Facebook page and through HRTV’s You Tube site.
From what Amy told Dottie, they will also try and put up any extra footage of ME at Lane’s End on these sites soon..perhaps as early as tomorrow…for you to see more of ME playing in the paddock.
Now, Dottie is trying to get it set up so you can go to MY FACEBOOK PAGE as well (remember…this Facebook Icon is on the very front page of ZENYATTA.COM)…click the Facebook part…and we are hoping to get it to allow you to the HRTV page. TECHNOLOGY can be ‘interesting’ to say the least, but Dottie is trying to work with all of these people to get this to happen for YOU! Let’s hope! Hooves crossed!
Cheers to a fun day!
I just adore ALL OF YOU for caring SO MUCH about ME!
I am truly one very BLESSED HORSE!
With Love,
Hugs to all~

@Jim ~ Zenyatta was happy at the track, AND she is even happier to be with her girlfriends and at liberty, able to play and be close to them. She has not had the freedom to do this most natural thing since she was 2 years old! She was never turned out for FOUR YEARS! In one of the latest videos on her Facebook page, Z. is grazing near Seagull, then decides it would be much more fun to move over and graze cheek-to-cheek and eye-to-eye with her friend. Maybe you aren’t female, but try to understand that for girlfriends to be free to have lunch together is a BIG DEAL — practically nothing is more fun, not even winning races — what to speak of all those more-interesting-than-galloping-on-a-track-every-day creative fancy frolics! No one is going to hurt Zenyatta — on the contrary, everyone is doing the very best they can to take the best care of her and keep her happy AND safe. See Zenyatta get hypnotized by Barry Abrams playing with her upper lip and gums:

She just gets so-o-o-o relaxed. More here (scroll up to page above for a photo!) — hopefully they know a few of these things at a place like Lane’s End. Someone? Just make sure & email these links over there! LOL :D

Dear Queen-Z & Team-Z
It was a beautiful day at Santa Anita, and I really enjoyed seeing the “Racing Royalty”‘s (Secretariat & Zenyatta) Connections (Penny Chenery, Jerry & Anne Moss, Dottie & John Sherriffs, & Mike Smith). HRTV did a great job of bringing the DAY into homes, everywhere. I watched the recorded TV coverage, as soon as I got home. It occurred to me that it takes thousands of people to put together a day of racing, like this one!! Truly, an amazing bit of organization!! I thank and appreciate all of you, seen and unseen workers. The Sport of Horseracing is quite an interesting industry. I love it more each day.
Zennie, you looked to be having lots of fun at Lane’s End, in your paddock with Pirate Queen and the other two. It looks like one of your favorite things to do is to roll in the mud!…right ? Stay warm and well. Hugs for all.
Fondly, OraJean

It was so much fun today at Santa Anita, even though my feet hurt, and I was so tired. My brother & I got there at 10 (gates opened at 10:30), and already a long line was waiting for the poster/autographs (I heard from groups let in early). Signing was supposed to run 11:30 – 12:30, but luckily, the Team stayed until 1 pm, or I wouldn’t have met Penny, Ann, Jerry, Mike, John and Dottie. I thanked each one as I went down the table. My brother had a warm conversation with Penny, thanking her for what she’s done and meant to race-fans, and she thanked & blessed him. When I said, “Thank-you, Ann”, Ann smiled, said, “And what’s your name?” and reached out to shake my hand. It made my day. Jerry liked my sweatshirt, with a Police/Zenyatta art-print mashup (by artist Pat DeLong). John was friendly, busily signing prints, and I thanked Dottie for keeping this diary going for us.
Later, the live ceremony was nice, but seeing it again on Bloodhorse & Youtube, it was much clearer and easier to hear everything, including Zenny happily in her paddock!
Afterwards, I saw that most of the Team was back signing more autographs and meeting more fans, although Mike had some rides, and Penny’s daughter, Kate Tweedy, was there instead, at least for awhile. Not surprising, as Penny Chenery is 89, after all, and she seemed somewhat tired, although fighting through it, as she signed and talked to fans. It was also fun, making buddies with other Zenny-fans in line, sharing stories, etc.
All in all, a great day!
Vicki B.
@Kitei, those latest links of yours are great — the vid with Barry Abrams & Zenny is wonderful, to see how someone who knows what they’re doing, handles her. And the book on the same subject. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing the HRTV broadcast. I love the fact that the big girl is allowed to have her mud baths ‘down on the farm’. There’s nothing more beautiful than horses being horses. Thanks, Team Zenyatta!

Thank you so much for providing the link to the HRTV broadcast. Every time I see Secretariat’s run at the Belmont, it brings so much emotion out of me (happy tears) and then when I saw Zenyatta running for her wins and knowing what she did in the BC is simply breathtaking and indescribable. Hi Zenny; Congratulations on the first Secretariat award. Do you know when your first date with Bernadini is yet? Cause you need to make sure your hair and nails are all pretty.

Yesterday was GREAT Zenny!!! Absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! Love you, and hey, how about our girl ZAZU, she did GREAT yesterday too???!!!!
Dani
The ceremony was wonderful. Thank you to Penny Chenery for creating such a special award for “the horse the people love”. The sculpture is breathtaking – it encompasses Secretiariat’s blazing spirit and speed so true to Zenyatta herself.
…Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Moss and to John and Dottie, people whose graciousness seems to know no bounds. Thank you for letting us be so close to Zenyatta and especially for creating this website for us which allows us to stay close to her. We don’t know what we would do without our daily dose of the Queen.
…. Thank you to HRTV and Dottie for making it possible for everyone to get to see the ceremony and the ‘play date’ with Zenyatta. As others have mentioned, it takes a lot of hard work to make something like this happen.

I would really like to say what a great group of people post on this site. There is alot of kindness here. Through-out yesterday people were helping one another navigate the sometimes wiley ways of the computer and websites in order to see the ceremony online. Lots of other links on articles and videos were also posted about Zenyatta and related stories. Sometimes there are people here who are in need of a shoulder due to an illness of their own or of a loved one. And you always see people who will come forward to offer comforting and supportive words. There are many who champion charities. There is also a good deal of humor found here and lots of educational information offered by others. So this is not just a one dimensional website. It is visited by people of many diverse backgrounds and experiences which they bring to the table everytime they post. I can’t wait for every new diary posting – it’s always a highlight of the day. But I also enjoy reading everyone’s comments. I really appreciate the goodness of this site. Everyone makes it a wonderful place to visit. I’m sure Zenyatta would agree.

Thank you Dottie! Thanks for keeping us fans close to Zenyatta and close to each other! Thanks to the Moss’s for all that you have done for Z, the retired horses, the fans and by far the Sport in general. With the modern tech we have today-keeping in touch with Our Racing Hero’s is possible if Owners are on board and see the dreams of fans. Love You all Team Zenyatta and thanks again for loving Our Queen Zenyatta :-) :-)

Really well said, @Dani!

Hi Zenny:
Loved seeing the Vox Populi ceremony. You are really something frolicking in your paddock with your posse. The Moss’s seem to be really lucky with “Z” horses. Love the name Zazu. Hope you are enjoying your Sunday. Thanks so much again to Dottie and your wonderful team for being so kind to us fans. Your diary posts are such a bright spot in such a troubled world.
Stay warm, safe and happy.
Hugs & nose kisses.

Wonderful video of Zenyatta and her paddock buddies — running the fence line with tail flagged and kicking up her heels. Thank you, Dottie and HRTV, for making it possible.
