HRTV TO AIR SECRETARIAT VOX POPULI AWARD PRESENTATION TO ZENYATTA FROM SANTA ANITA THIS SATURDAY

TO MY DEAR FANS,

This is exciting! Dottie has been working with the TV and Marketing Departments at Santa Anita for the last few weeks on this AWARD Presention. Well, one of the thoughts was that they send a film crew to the farm to FILM ME in my new home at LANE’S END for all of you to see!

Well, it looks like this is going to happen! YIPPEE! I will be on the BIG SCREEN at SANTA ANITA AGAIN! I love this thought!

The crew is arriving at 7:30 in the morning on Saturday to set up. Then they will be filming ME…in my paddock, with my friends, and in my stall. I am so excited. I gather they will then show this on Saturday afternoon during the presentation. THIS WAY I WILL BE THERE WITH ALL OF YOU TO HELP CELEBRATE!

At the bottom of this press release, Amy mentioned a way to see these HRTV things on a computer. I hope it helps those of you who don’t have this cable channel.

Santa Anita…PRESS RELEASE

Arcadia, CA, Feb. 2 — HRTV (R) will offer live coverage of the inaugural Secretariat Vox Populi Award presentation, which will be bestowed upon the brilliant, 2010 Horse of the Year, Zenyatta, at Santa Anita Park this Saturday, February 5.

The newly-created award was recently announced and is the first of its kind in horseracing. The annual award will recognize a horse whose popularity and racing excellence resonated with racing fans and gained additional recognition for the sport during the previous year.

Secretariat’s charismatic owner, Penny Chenery, will present the award to Zenyatta’s owners, Ann and Jerry Moss, following the fifth race on Santa Anita’s card. Also expected to be on-hand are Chenery’s daughter, Kate Tweedy, along with Zenyatta’s trainer, John Shirreffs, and his wife, Dottie, as well as the wonderful mare’s jockey, Mike Smith.

In addition to the live coverage of the award, the presentation will also feature footage from earlier in the day of Zenyatta at Lane’s End Farm in Versailles, KY. Zenyatta was retired to the Lane’s End Farm last December and the Mosses have announced that she will be bred to 2006 champion 3-year-old Bernardini.

“All of us at HRTV joined the fans around the world in watching Zenyatta’s amazing career,” said Amy J. Zimmerman, Executive Producer of HRTV. “This award unites two of racing’s most popular horses of all-time. We are excited to bring this coverage to the many Zenyatta and Secretariat fans, but also to show them how well the great mare is adapting to her new home.”

Zenyatta captured the imagination of racing fans, and casual observers, during an astounding career that included:

only one hard-fought loss (to Blame in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic) in 20 races. In addition to her Horse the Year recognition, she is a three-time Older Female Eclipse Award winner (2008-10), and a two-time Breeders’ Cup winner — 2008 (Ladies Classic) and 2009 (Classic). The daughter of Street Cry earned more than $7.3 million in purses.

    Hey, Ze-girl! Whooo-Hooo-o-o-o-! so glad we will get to see some more videos of you, big girl!

    Also, I read the most exciting news about your half-sister, Eblouissante! She looks and acts a lot like you…her daddy is Barnardi, but her mama was your mama! Don Robinson had the sweetest things to say about her and about you. The best news, though, is, she will go to John to train to race. She won’t race until next year, but I’m excited to be able to watch her development, and also, see a preview of what you and Bernardini may produce. Really, really so exciting Zen!

    Our satellite carrier doesn’t carry HRTV even tho we specifically asked if they did before we switched service … have to try to catch it all online! So happy for you! Take care! Hugs & carrots! :)

    Zen and Dottie thank you for all your efforts on the part of the fans to include us in your celebration. I hope I can catch it on the internet. By the way I watched your Tango on your website, who is that woman with you….. I am soooooooooo jealous. How I would love to play with you like that and feel your soft nose on my cheek. Wow is she lucky!!! You look adorable, by the way, with those big ears. Can’t wait till Saturday, I see your mom and dad have Zazu in race 4, good luck to them. Luv and kisses on your nose.

    Congratulations Big Z!
    I’ll be watching — HRTV is one of my favorite channels. Inside Information is one of the shows I watch all the time. I have learned so much about racings greats, from equine to human! Great stories about Cigar, John Henry, Secretariat, trainers and jockeys.
    Wish I could be there to witness the award presentation!

    GOING TO SANTA ANITA FEB?. Just a reminder to L.A. fans, if you are going on Saturday and are inspired by Team Z’s giving ways, please take a donation for the ZENYATTA LOUNGE FOR WOMEN (see diary post #40). You probably won’t even need to leave the house to come up with one of these items. Gently used books (in Spanish would be fab. too). Movies on DVD. Any learning or puzzle type computer CD’s. Board Games or puzzles (please make sure all the pieces are there)! Office/stationary supplies. Toiletries, new and sealed of course. When you get to S.A. ask any staff to direct you to the Marketing Office, you can drop off there. Team Z do so much for horses and humans, inc. us with this diary, lets show that they have inspired us to lend a hand too. A quick look under the bathroom sink for the lotion you got for xmas and will never use, and a detour to the Marketing Office is the least we can do to show our support. I hear the ladies are making good use of the lounge, improving their English skills with a Rosetta Stone program, and taking computer classes. Anyone wanting to meet at track, paddock after 4th race. See you there.

    Hats off to HRTV for filming Z in her digs Saturday and rebroadcast to SA Park
    for the celebration and award. I first heard about Z after her 2nd race and it was on HRTV. There wasn’t a lot of hype back then but m thsi is one to watch. Watch I did, finished off at the BC in Kentucky last year. It was a wonderful ride my Lady Z, and the furure is even brighter. Wished I could be there Saturday
    but I’ll be watching and taping it.

    Wonderful! I just switched my satellite provider and now I get both HRTV and TVG. I’m retired and love to listen to the handicappers. I’ve learned so much and have a much better understanding of the horse racing industry by watching and listening to these experts. You get different perspectives from the owners, trainers and jockey’s as well as the breeders. So many wonderful stories.
    Can’t wait to see it all on Saturday at Santa Anita.

    Hi Zenyatta. Wow, that is going to be wonderful. I will be taping HRTV all day – also looking forward to the footage from your paddock. Will you be watching the presentation with your friends? I am sure you will be. Congratulations! So sorry we cannot be with you this time. We have seen many of your races live and I was honored to be at both your retirement ceremonies. Love you so, angel in disguise. Keep toasty and have fun with your BBFs.
