Good Morning,
It is so hard to believe that it is already FEBRUARY. I understand…per GROUNDHOG LEGEND…this morning indicated that SPRING WILL COME SOON. That sounds great to me!
February is also a MONTH to celebrate LOVE and relationships! It is so much fun to reflect on all of the people who have been so special in my life! It is exciting to contemplate the next several weeks and the ‘new experiences’ I will have as well!
This Saturday, as you know, I’m celebrating the SECRETARIAT AWARD at Santa Anita. (Chris Crocker at the Santa Anita gift shop emailed Dottie and told her “all of my fans have had their fingers flying over their keyboards ordering the posters”.) You guys are too cute!
Later on, sometime later in February, I’ll be meeting with BERNARDINI. As you know, MY TEAM has selected him as the sire for my first foal. The exact timing of this depends on MY system….and how I’m doing with my ovulating and all of that GIRLY GIRL stuff.
Earlier this week, Darley did a wonderful video on BERNARDINI…introducing him to the fans, a view of his home, and the pedigree aspects in relation to our mating. It is on the BLOODHORSE SITE…and they really did a terrific job! From what I can see, HE is a really strong, good-looking stallion. I can’t wait to meet him!
Click here to watch a video on Bernardini!
What a LUCKY HORSE I AM! I know I have accomplished a great deal in my own life and career…but to be associated with SECRETARIAT and being shown with him in a poster entitled…RACING ROYALTY…and then to have BERNARDINI be the sire of my first foal is all very exciting to me! I have some FABULOUS HORSES in my life! What a thrill!
February…is starting out to be a month filled with LOTS OF HOPE, LOVE, and POSSIBILITIES! It is so much fun to just stand out in the paddock, look at this beautiful environment and ponder all of the great things to come!
May you be blessed with a wonderful, hopeful and loving FEBRUARY as well!
With love,
Hugs to all~
Z

@ SUE,
.
Yes, the way the JC rules work is that if Zenyatta were to foal early, at the end of December her few day old foal would then be considered a yearling come Jan 1st, 2012. Obviously, that would be disasterous as that offspring would never be able to race competively in it’s age group.
.
That’s the main reason many people will not breed their maidens as soon as the breeding sheds open. Some mares naturally carry longer, some mares foal earlier. With maidens, there’s no past history to go by so it’s generally safer to breed them a few weeks after the season starts (hence the end of Feb for Z). Much better safe than sorry!

LIFE IS SWEET is in foal to Smart Strike and should be due within the next few weeks.

Hi there, Zenny! We’re missing you here still in sunny California! Can’t wait to see your CA family and Mrs. Chenery this Saturday! I think it’s going to be a teary kind of day–tears of happiness to be present for such an extraordinary honor and acknowledgment of all that you are by Mrs. Chenery, and then a touch of sadness because we’ll miss seeing your beautiful, graceful self dancing along the paddock at Santa Anita–such an historic place in the world of racing, bearing witness to many of your greatest racing moments. We’ll all feel your spirit, I’m certain! Also, if you could pass on to the folks at Darley our thanks for sharing a little bit of Bernardini with your legions of fans, we’d be most appreciative. They seem to understand how very special you are to us. He is stunning and quite light on his feet, too! I’m still siding with Mike, but I think your family made the very best possible choice for you. Life with Zenyatta just gets better and better! Much love and happiness to you, “lil’ girl!”

Hi Queen,
I am so excited to hear about the Racing Royalty pictures. I went on Santa Anita’s website last night and ordered the one of you by yourself and the one titled Racing Royalty. I can’t wait to get them and hang them in my house. I love you very much and I am so happy that you will soon (I hope) be with Mr. Right. But in my book no one will ever be good enough for the Queen. Love you and I love your Diary Post. I have made a binder and put them in it.

Since you and Bernardini both like dancing, and even your favorite electronic communication mode is named for a dance, maybe your baby’s name could appropriately refer to that! BZ’s Tango? 2,2-Tango? Royal Tango?
Maybe especially interesting because flirting between horses tends to look a bit like a tango! Just imagine Queen Z & her prince in the lead roles here:

Hi Z-watched the video of Bernardini, and he likes to prance! With his prancing and your dance steps-i don’t know but if racing is not your baby’s cup of tea I bet he/she would be a great dressage horse! Love you Z-hope the weather is good in Kentucky. Have a good evening! xxoo

Hi Z and everyone: I just watched the video on Bernardini– I am not a horse pro, but I thought he looked very strong and a very self confident horse. Is the gentleman in the video that was talking his trainer? I thought he was very caring of Bernardini. I didnt think B looked as tall as Zenyatta — but he looks tough. Also, Its great that Mr and Mrs Moss are donating sales from the posters to the horse charities– Wonderful !!! Congrats on the award. Take care all,Janet C

Robin Barnhill
Oh my gosh – he is georgeous!!!!!!!
Melissa

Bernardini is really beautiful and elegant. The one thing I wonder about is the difference in height. Bernardini is 16 hands while our girl is 17.2, a difference of 6 inches. I realize the height is measured at the withers, but I wonder if it makes a difference in the actual breeding? Anyone know about this?

In this equation, Zenyatta is number 1. She is the Queen.

Dear Zenny,
I am hosting an online Wedding Shower for you and your intended. We are making plans now on alexbrownracing.com. I have asked Old Friends and Our Mims rescues to “register” their gift needs so we can buy practical presents. I’m also inviting people to give to their favorite horse charity in honor of the happy couple and then let me know, so we can keep track of the gifts.I will let you and Bernardini know how much you are loved and how much has been raised to celebrate your special day. We will be playing Zenyatta and Bernardini trivia games online and for refreshments, I’m asking folks to post their favorite horse cookie and carrot cake recipes. Of course, we will all raise a glass of Guiness in your honor. Hmm, does Bernardini have a favorite beverage?
All your friends are invited! And, of course, at the appropriate time, I am hosting an online baby shower to benefit nursemare foals rescues. I know that you are busy preparing for your award ceremony this Saturday, but would love to hear any suggestions you might have.
Elizabeth
Here’s wishing you a February filled with lots of love, Zenyatta! I watched the Bernardini video and I must commend your team for a wonderful decision in all respects – I noticed in the latter part of the video that he seemed to be doing just a little bit of “dancing”, too! How cute! Love you, love you, love you! XOXO

@ Sharon Call,

Where there’s a will, there’s a way ;-)

Most stallions don’t have any trouble. The area he’ll be aiming for isn’t 17hh, but if they feel he needs some help, many breeding sheds have a little ditch of sorts to stand the mare’s hind feet in to make that end of her a little lower. Some also have a bit of a mound for a smaller stallion to stand on. Northern Dancer had his infamous ‘pitchers mound’ :-)

Z – your boyfriend is beautiful! You did great pretty girl! Luv ya!
Edie Dickenson
Yes, Zenny, I am one of the many whose fingers were flying yesterday to order the poster of you and my other favorite thoroughbred, Secretariat. You will enjoy February as you enjoy Life! I love you so much! Edie

Thank you, Ensign, for your answer. That was what I suspected. That happens in the human sports world too. My son was born at the end of the year and in the junior tennis world at that time, he was, for example, automatically in the 13 and up group on Jan. 1st when he had just turned 12. It was very unfair because unless you were an early grower, it pretty much ruined your chances of competing. I wonder what happens to the foals who were unfortunate enough to be born in December? :( The owners just give up on them or just give up on running them as 2 or 3 year olds? Probably the latter if they show talent. After the age of 3, age doesn’t matter anymore, I think.

Zenny, I can’t wait to see your baby with Bernardini. He/she is going to be gorgeous!!!!

Hi Zenny, Just looked at the video of Bernardini. When I was in Kentucky I went to Darley. WOW what a farm. In the lobby you can see many p Bernardini`s trophys an d gorgeous photo..Darley is out of this world. The Sheik sure does it up/. The wood on the barn doors are exquisite and the horses name plates are SHINY solid brass. Very classy! Fit for a Queen. Thats you Zenny. You will be going to him for the wonderful moment. You`ll see for yourself. Yes, you should be proud about the Secretariat award. Not many horses can stand next to him.. You can.. I`m buying the print also…Ok sweet girl have a good night and just dream wonderful dreams of your baby….Lots of Big Hugs and Kisses Alene

Beautiful Queen Zenyatta,
I just checked out the awesome video of Bernardini!
He is very handsome and strong and balanced. They said everyone who sees him falls in love with him. He does seem to have a little dance in his steps and I am sure you could teach him even more!
You are one blessed horse, probably because your heart is always so thankful and giving.
Love and hugs!

Ensign is correct as usual. Northern Dancer was a small horse who was bred in Canada with a very strong will. He become the greatest sire of the last century. Bernardini had his bloodlines in his pedigree. Z’s foal has real possibilities, but no one can predict for certain what will happen.

Sending you the best well wishes that everything goes well for you during your first breeding. Will be looking forward to seeing your new foal next spring. I’m sure it will be the most anticipated foal of 2012. You are the best mare ever. Sending love and “mints”,
Mary Ann

Hi Zenyatta. We just ordered our poster of you and Secretariat. Can’t wait to receive it. It will be a beautiful addition to all of our other pictures, posters, etc. we have throughout our home. Wow, we are getting some wild weather in Texas, can’t wait for the spring to come. Happy Valentine’s Day to you. Valentine’s Day is our wedding anniversary and I can’t think of a better time for you and Bernardini to have your first date, though that might be too soon for you. Whenever you have your first date, it will be monumental. What a beautiful baby you both will have. Love you so, stay toasty and have fun with your BFFs.
