Good Afternoon, It is rather nice here in Lexington today….in the 40′s. It’s good to hear that we are supposed to have ‘nice’ weather in KY for the next several days. My CA FRIENDS mentioned that it is a bit ‘chilly’ there today…somewhat gray and overcast. It has been very warm weather in CA lately so it is probably nice to have it ‘cool off a bit’. In reality, it is winter time!
I wanted to share with you a photo of my friends from LAS PROFESIONALES AUXILIARY MEMBERS…ASSISTANCE LEAGUE..SAN PEDRO-SOUTH BAY! This is the organization which invited me to become an HONORARY MEMBER last December…the day I was honored at Hollywood Park. These women wanted to honor me for all of my PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS as well as my CHARITABLE WORK! (Please note: MY PHOTO is hanging on their Chapter House wall…right behind them in this picture.) As a gift, they had a fabulous ‘warm and toasty’ blanket made for me to use while in KY. It is very nice!
Well, The Assistance League is celebrating its 75th ANNIVERSARY on May 1, 2011…and I am going to be IN their Anniversary Program. This is truly an honor. I know I am a THOROUGHBRED RACE HORSE….but it is so encouraging to note that HUMANS have recognized MY ACHIEVEMENTS AS AN ATHLETE as well as MY CHARITABLE EFFORTS.
Helping others by supporting various charities has been a big part of my life during the last few years. In reality, I have tried to focus on helping in whatever way I possibly could. I have worked to help my FELLOW HORSES…who need to be retrained for a 2nd career or simply have a safe and happy place to retire as they get older. I have also strived to help provide for student scholarships…by working with RACE FOR EDUCATION. Additionally, I have been very active with my efforts to support the V FOUNDATION for Cancer Research.
My contributions have been significant…and I really feel good about all of them.
Next Saturday, MY TEAM and I will be honored with the FIRST SECRETARIAT VOX POPULI AWARD at Santa Anita. Mrs. Chenery, Secretariat’s owner, is the individual who personally selected US to be the first recipient of THIS AWARD! What an honor that we are her FIRST CHOICE…and that she is traveling so many miles to personally be at Santa Anita for the ceremony!
In relation to this celebration, Santa Anita is doing some wonderful artistic posters to commemorate the DAY! I have heard the posters will be sold that day at the track! For my part of the sale proceeds, I have requested my funds be equally shared between OLD FRIENDS and CANTER of CALIFORNIA. Both of these charities work with such devotion to help so many of my dear, horse friends!
Recently, Dottie saw samples of the posters and said they are lovely and quite beautifully done. (She did add…I look wonderful in them. BLUSH, BLUSH!)
All of this is such an HONOR…and QUITE EXTRAORDINARY!
I feel SO FORTUNATE to be able to HELP!
Enjoy your Sunday!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

Good morning pretty girl. Hope you had a wonderful weekend. In your post for the day you indicate that your friends from Las Profesionales Auxiliary Members presented you with a “warm and toasty” blanket made for you to use while in Kentucky. Will you be leaving Kentucky? I hope not. I can’t bear the thought of that happening. Surely it wouldn’t be before you foal. Take care my love.
Nancy
Zenyatta and team, You are so deserving of all the awards you are awarded. And to be the first recipient of Secretariat award is fantastic. He was the first racing horse I fell in love with and watching him win the Belmont on tv still gives me chills when I think of it. What an deserving honor for you and your team!
Theresa Buck

Hey Zenny,
Any chance you could get some of the wonderful Zenyatta items from Santa Anita (poster you mentioned) and Hollywood Park available on your website? I would love to know that my purchase went to help a cause like CANTER vs. some dude on Ebay….please?
Thanks Zenyatta!
Allen
Z Thank You for all you do, you are just a blessing to everyone. At a time when all the news seems to be negative, you are the one positive thing all of us have. God blessed all of us when he sent you into this world. THANK YOU LORD FOR ZENYATTA.
Lois Brooks
Hats off to Queen Z. Every new award in my book is another notch in your cap and are so well deserved. You have done so much for racing just as Secretariat did in his era. You go girl.
Dorothy Hopper
Congratulations Zenyatta on the news of your first date! So your foal will have the bloodlines, as you also, which created Secretariat, Man O War and a lesser known great horse Dr. Fager. Interesting also that a horse in Dr. Fager’s lines was named STING!!! Is this why Bernardini was chosen over AP Indy as most speculated? Well, I hope that your foal is a filly who goes on to win the Triple Crown with a FEMALE jockey! No offense Mike.
Trisha Veazey
Z you deserve every honor and recognition you have received and more. You are one special girl.
Just a thought to Dottie. The posts to Z’s fans would make lovely childrens books. Fun things along with learning about , “pedicures”, bath time, combing and taking care of her hair, the dentist. Her tack and taking care of it. Each post is a possible short story in a Zenyatta series. You do such a wonderful job and what a way to generate more money for her favorite charities.

I was born & raised in San Pedro CA–I know this group well, they operate a post office near where my very first job was…of course how neat to know they love you and support you as much as anyone!

Dear Z, It’s all been said-you are an icon. What a wonderful post! Dona-thank you for the rescue info. For those of you interested in the wild horses, I saw this on craigslist. They are some pictures of very fuzzy babies up for adoption.
http://www.wildhorserescue.org/nvhorses.html As Z would say, “too cute”.

Whatta gal you are, Zenyatta. You and your people are so generous. Thank you, Dottie, for these posts. They, and all of you surrounding Queen Z, are appreciated.

That’s really great. Keep on dancin’.
Is there ever any way at all to be able to get any items that are only available in person in California? Just wondering.
Bryna Dambrowski

Hoping for a colt to carry on the Zenyatta Zenyatta’s colors in the Triple Crown races!
Dani
So earlier I posted my heartfelt congratulations and thank yous to Ms. Chenery and Zenyatta’s friends at the Assistance League. I also recognized Mr. and Mrs. Moss and Dottie and John. I think that they are the most wonderful people. We are so lucky not only to have Zenyatta in our lives but to have them as well. They are a great inspiration for us to also try to give of ourselves in any way we can to help those in need whether it be horses or people.
.
But now I want to be a little, really a lot silly. One of those posts that you look back on and say, ‘what was I thinking?’. So, here is the thing. I think Zenny deserves another honor. Her hoof prints should be on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Lassie’s paw prints are there and his big achievement was to bark whenever Timmy fell down into a well. Is that the same as winning the BCC? I think not. (No offense Lassie. I watched you all the time).
.
But Zenyatta is a true celebrity, a true legend. She outshines many of the stars whose handprints mark the walk. She in herself is like a gigantic, humongous movie star. Everywhere she goes, cameras click furiously to capture her every move. People line fences, their faces pressed up against the wire just to watch her munch on grass. When she parades around the paddock before a race, people are lined up 20 deep just for the chance that they will get a glimpse of her – even if it is just her ear. When she stops and looks into the crowd, those people are like, OMG, Zenyatta is looking at me. AT ME!!! The cameras click, the tissues come out. The TVG camerman grips his camera tightly following her carefully so as not to miss even the swish of her tail.
.
When she enters onto the race track the crowd erupts like they’re at a rock concert. If it were night time you would almost expect to see lighters out swaying back and forth. And then she does her super model strut. That front leg extends and she prances down the track as if on a runway. Oh Heidi Klum, you cannot walk the walk like Zenyatta does.
.
But at the gate she is an athlete of the highest caliber. She is like a super hero able to leap past the other horses in a single bound. And then when she comes into the winner’s circle she looks like a beauty queen. Back off Miss Universe. You have nothing on this exquisite beauty. But Zenyatta is not just all pretty and prancing. She is a philanthropist as well, for the gifts she gives change people’s lives.
.
So those hoof prints should most definitely be on the Walk of Fame. And people will come far and wide to get their pictures taken next to them because she is loved and admired and held in people’s hearts and minds unlike any other. She is the ultimate super star and deserves this honor as she deserves all the honors bestowed upon her.
.
And that is my imagination run amok. Will I be able to show my face on this website again? Oh, I think so. I wouldn’t miss a day in the life of Zenyatta for anything. :)P.S. I really do believe that one day her hoof prints will be on that Walk of Fame.
Lauren
Dear Zenny – you are a champion not only on the racetrack but in life also. Your owners and family are such wonderful people with so much love and compassion and you can see that it has trickled down to you. Please keep us posted on any other charities you work with.
With much love and kisses.
Ginger
Zenny, another touching post! Thank you and Team Z! Hope you have a fun day with your friends, dancing in the paddock. @Dani – what imagination? You just stated the facts!!:)) I’ll second the hoof prints on the Walk of Fame!

Yesterday at Gulfstream in the featured HOLLY BULL Nick Zitos horse “Dialed In” won the race in Zenyatta fashion by coming from last at least 15lengths behind to first at the finish line. Also Switch the horse that you beat in last years Ladys Classic Won again at Santa Anita Sunday
Donna
I wanted to add another comment after congratulating John on his win at Santa Anita yesterday.
I wanted to say to Dottie you must be so proud of your son David for not only picking Zenyatta as a yearling but also picking Switch who Z beat, but now Switch is trouncing Grade 1 fillies she was amazing yesterday.
David has an amazing eye for a good horse, Darley has amazing horses as she is out of Quiet American.

@Dani — What a great idea — Zenyatta’s footprints on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — she trained at Hollywood Park and spent over four years of her life there. She is a star of the highest caliber.
Karey
Dani, what a super idea! Zenyatta’s hoof prints on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Yes!
No one deserves it more.
Pattie from Pickens, SC
I have an idea !! We all had hoped that Queen Zenyatta would meet Rachel Alexandra…well it just might happen…Rachel will be going to Lane’s End for her date with Curlin, & Zenyatta just happens to be boarding at Lane’s End. It would be AWESOME if Zenyatta & Rachel could pose for a photo of them together. Then title the photo, The 2009 Horse of the Year meets The 2010 Horse of the Year to talk about Motherhood. Think of the money that could be raised for Thoroughbred Horse Rescues like, “Old Friends” !! I would pay dearly for a photo, & I’m sure many others would as well:)

Bravo for that post, Dani. I’m dreaming the same dream and perhaps it will come true.

Hollywood Walk of Fame — Zenyatta should be able to qualify for nomination under both the “TV” or “Live Performance” categories.

NO WAY could there be a movie about you. Why? Only a documentary will do. Because who, except YOU, can dance?!?!
