Good Afternoon, It is rather nice here in Lexington today….in the 40′s. It’s good to hear that we are supposed to have ‘nice’ weather in KY for the next several days. My CA FRIENDS mentioned that it is a bit ‘chilly’ there today…somewhat gray and overcast. It has been very warm weather in CA lately so it is probably nice to have it ‘cool off a bit’. In reality, it is winter time!
I wanted to share with you a photo of my friends from LAS PROFESIONALES AUXILIARY MEMBERS…ASSISTANCE LEAGUE..SAN PEDRO-SOUTH BAY! This is the organization which invited me to become an HONORARY MEMBER last December…the day I was honored at Hollywood Park. These women wanted to honor me for all of my PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS as well as my CHARITABLE WORK! (Please note: MY PHOTO is hanging on their Chapter House wall…right behind them in this picture.) As a gift, they had a fabulous ‘warm and toasty’ blanket made for me to use while in KY. It is very nice!
Well, The Assistance League is celebrating its 75th ANNIVERSARY on May 1, 2011…and I am going to be IN their Anniversary Program. This is truly an honor. I know I am a THOROUGHBRED RACE HORSE….but it is so encouraging to note that HUMANS have recognized MY ACHIEVEMENTS AS AN ATHLETE as well as MY CHARITABLE EFFORTS.
Helping others by supporting various charities has been a big part of my life during the last few years. In reality, I have tried to focus on helping in whatever way I possibly could. I have worked to help my FELLOW HORSES…who need to be retrained for a 2nd career or simply have a safe and happy place to retire as they get older. I have also strived to help provide for student scholarships…by working with RACE FOR EDUCATION. Additionally, I have been very active with my efforts to support the V FOUNDATION for Cancer Research.
My contributions have been significant…and I really feel good about all of them.
Next Saturday, MY TEAM and I will be honored with the FIRST SECRETARIAT VOX POPULI AWARD at Santa Anita. Mrs. Chenery, Secretariat’s owner, is the individual who personally selected US to be the first recipient of THIS AWARD! What an honor that we are her FIRST CHOICE…and that she is traveling so many miles to personally be at Santa Anita for the ceremony!
In relation to this celebration, Santa Anita is doing some wonderful artistic posters to commemorate the DAY! I have heard the posters will be sold that day at the track! For my part of the sale proceeds, I have requested my funds be equally shared between OLD FRIENDS and CANTER of CALIFORNIA. Both of these charities work with such devotion to help so many of my dear, horse friends!
Recently, Dottie saw samples of the posters and said they are lovely and quite beautifully done. (She did add…I look wonderful in them. BLUSH, BLUSH!)
All of this is such an HONOR…and QUITE EXTRAORDINARY!
I feel SO FORTUNATE to be able to HELP!
Enjoy your Sunday!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

Love your charity work, Z! You couldn’t have picked 2 better groups.
LOU IN TX
Hello Queen Z. Glad you are having some halfway decent weather there in KY. I’m in TX and we’re bracing for a very cold week this next week. But it will be in the 50’s for the Super Bowl next Sunday.
I wonder if there is anyway I could buy your poster? I’d like to help donate to two of your wonderful charties. Plus I’d love to have your beautiful picture hanging in my home. You are such a wonderful horse to care for your fellow horses. By the way, did you know that on Thoroughbred Times web site they are having a contest on the name of your first born. I submitted “Zenyattasgreat one.”(all one word) I feel like any foal you have will be great. A lot of those who submitted names liked “Zendini”. There are a lot of great names but I know your Teams Z will chose the right name for your foal.
You take care and I love reading your diary. Makes me feel close to you even though we aren’t close physically. Take care big girl. I love you. Lou

Hi Zenyatta. What a great honor from your Assistance League friends and of course receiving the first Secretariat Vox Populi Award. It is so well deserved. You and your team have done so much for charity especially helping retired horses find a new future or just being able to retire. We wish more teams would do the same. Hopefully, your fans that are not able to attend this special day at Santa Anita will be able to purchase your new posters. I know you are gorgeous in them, you angel in disguise. Love you so.
Rosemarie Cola
A wonderful honor for a wonderful mare!
Zennie, you and your team are the best!
Keep up the good work. (would love to be able to purchase the posters also)
Max
All this and beautiful too. I love reading about you and your team. No detail is too mundane. All the best, Queen Zenyatta.

Zenny bless you for all the things you do. You deserve the Vox Populi Award. You keep on giving & giving. You are so lucky to have such a family who is so caring of you & for helping other horses not as fortunate as you. I’ve got to check out my Secretariat Blu-ray to see Mike talk about you. You are one lucky gal. Stay warm.
Kathy
You are such an inspiration for all of the working moms out there!

Hello Beautiful Girl,
I’m not surprised that the Las Profesionales Auxiliary invited you to be an Honorary Member. You are one of a kind – a consummate professional athlete, philanthropist and humanist!
The Vox Populi Award definitely belongs to you. Penny Chenery knows class when it is so elegantly displayed! I have wished many times that Secretariat was alive, so he could be your mate. I tell myself what fabulous babies the two of you would have had. He was such an elegant, beautiful, smart and lovable equine speciman – just like you! It was a very sad day when he died of laminitis – such a cursed disease. However, Bernardini does carry Secretariat’s genes through his daughter Weekend Surprise who was mated with Seattle Slew.
It would be great if Santa Anita printed enough posters for those of us who cannot be at Santa Anita to be able to purchase one through their gift shop.
Stay well my lovely and enjoy the warmer weather with your girl friends.
Hugs and Kisses,
NancyP

A VALENTINES PLEA…..
Esther Marr of the bloodhorse magazine writes a blog called Beyond the Blinkers. She recently wrote about a rescue facility that each year asks for people to send their horses a valentine and enclose a dollar. This is something everybody can afford to do and it would mean so much to them. All you fans that wanted Zenyatta to breed to A.P. Indy because of Seattle Slew, should respond because this rescue farm had his great granddaughter, Dawn. They had rescued her and she live for about 9 years. the address is :

Hi Zenny: Your CA fans are certainly very, very lucky to be able to attend this wonderful event with you receiving the FIRST SECRETARIAT VOX POPULI AWARD. I am in NJ, but if I could be in CA next Saturday, I would be there. It is not very often that we get to see such wonderful and historic owners of such famous racehorses together at an event. I hope many of your fans have the opportunity to attend. Love, Linda

Thanks for being a continued source of inspiration! I was supposed to head back to Washington on Tuesday to hang with Grandma. I may have to stay in California until Saturday so I can attend the festivities @ Santa Anita in your honor. Hope you are enjoying life in Kentucky.

wonderful.meaningful,Valentine idea Dona. I will tell my friends, and i’ll send a Valentine and some dollars in honor of Zenyatta.
Elaine Valenzuela
Thank God we live near Santa Anita and will be there for such an honor. Zenyatta, you and your whole team are so very giving to these charities. It’s always nice to give back, especially to those racehorses who are retired. At least they’ll have a retirement grazing in the sun and enjoying their lives again! Luv you!
Amanda Gilliland
My Sweet Lady Zenyatta,What an honor to be made a charter member from your assistance friends and be on their 75th anniversary program. I am so excited for you being the 1st reciepent of Secretariat Vox Populi Award presented by Ms. Chenery. Congratulations!! I know Secretariat is looking down and smiling on you and welcoming you to his family! I love you Zenyatta for being so involved in charitable work. That speaks to the wonderful people that surround you, The Mosses & The Sherriffs. Zenyatta, I know how you love and care for your fellow racehorses and retraining them for new homes. I have a very special request for you and I hope Dottie will pass it on to The Mosses & her husband, John. My heart and passion is the saving of the wild mustangs & burros in the west. They were given land to roam free and now the BLM have done horrific things to them, running them down with helicopters and taking them away to never return. Our American hertiage is disappearing before our very eyes. My heart aches for the horses and I cry for them. They are your relatives, Zenyatta, and should be honored, loved and allowed to roam free. Zenyatta, please say a prayer for the the mustangs & burros and speak up for them if you can. Dottie, thank you for your posts. I appreciate them so much. Hugs & Kisses From Albama With Love, Amanda G

Queen-Z & Team-Z,
Thanks for all the news you shared with me today. I plan to be out at Santa Anita, next Saturday. You certainly deserve all the awards and accollades you are receiving. Your poster is beautiful, and so is the one I saw of Secretariat. I’m sure your Team will raise lots of money, on your behalf, for racehorse retirement, both here in California and in Kentucky.
Glad to hear that you are getting a little break from that very cold weather, you’ve been having since your arrival in Kentucky. This will facilitate your breeding plans with Bernardini. Best wishes to you all.
Fondly, OraJean

You are truly a Queen. I’m a two time cancer survivor so thank you for your support of cancer research. Also, I’m a big fan of Old Friends & Canter.
You are the number 1 horse of all time!
I wish that someone would have a video of your life (including all the races) so far. This would raise a lot of money for your charities. The fans would love it. Put me down for the first copy.
Love you!

SANTA ANITA FEB 5th. If you are planning to go, in the spirit of Zenyatta and her very generous Team Z, please consider taking a donation for the Zenyatta Lounge for Women. I have spoken to someone at the track and was told the following items would be great for the ladies of the backstretch who use the lounge. Gently used books, especially if you have any in Spanish. Office supplies – pens/pencils/sharpies/post its/note pad/ream of paper/folders, the kind of things most of us have lying around at home. Toiletries, come on now, you know you have at least 3 lotions & shower gels you got for xmas that you’r never going to use! It would be nice for the Moss’es to know they have inspired us to give too, and you probably won’t even have to leave your house to come up with one of these items. To refresh you memory on the lounge https://staging.zenyatta.com/news/diary-post-40
When you get to Santa Anita, ask any staff member to direct you to The Marketing Office, or Allen Gutterman’s office and you will be able to leave your donation there. I was told the presentation would probably be between the 5th & 6th race. Would anyone like to meet so we have a Zenyatta.com cheering section? End of 4th race in the paddock, wear your Z gear or pink. Or, email me and we’ll make a better plan for a meeting spot zenyattafans@yahoo.com Forgive me if you see this posting repeated over the next few days, but I want to make sure it reaches as many giving persons as possible.

Great idea to sell poster prints after they are available at Santa Anita. Keep it a secret so many go to the track. Later, make a copy available for sale on line through your website. You have done such great charity work. You are a good example for all of us.

What an amazing honor! Just think, Z, to be the first recipient of the Secretariat award. I applaud all of your charitable endeavors. You don’t always think just of yourself, but rather those who are less fortunate. It is tooo bad that some humans don’t do the same thing. Hugs and kisses to you Z. Joan
