Good Afternoon, It is rather nice here in Lexington today….in the 40′s. It’s good to hear that we are supposed to have ‘nice’ weather in KY for the next several days. My CA FRIENDS mentioned that it is a bit ‘chilly’ there today…somewhat gray and overcast. It has been very warm weather in CA lately so it is probably nice to have it ‘cool off a bit’. In reality, it is winter time!
I wanted to share with you a photo of my friends from LAS PROFESIONALES AUXILIARY MEMBERS…ASSISTANCE LEAGUE..SAN PEDRO-SOUTH BAY! This is the organization which invited me to become an HONORARY MEMBER last December…the day I was honored at Hollywood Park. These women wanted to honor me for all of my PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS as well as my CHARITABLE WORK! (Please note: MY PHOTO is hanging on their Chapter House wall…right behind them in this picture.) As a gift, they had a fabulous ‘warm and toasty’ blanket made for me to use while in KY. It is very nice!
Well, The Assistance League is celebrating its 75th ANNIVERSARY on May 1, 2011…and I am going to be IN their Anniversary Program. This is truly an honor. I know I am a THOROUGHBRED RACE HORSE….but it is so encouraging to note that HUMANS have recognized MY ACHIEVEMENTS AS AN ATHLETE as well as MY CHARITABLE EFFORTS.
Helping others by supporting various charities has been a big part of my life during the last few years. In reality, I have tried to focus on helping in whatever way I possibly could. I have worked to help my FELLOW HORSES…who need to be retrained for a 2nd career or simply have a safe and happy place to retire as they get older. I have also strived to help provide for student scholarships…by working with RACE FOR EDUCATION. Additionally, I have been very active with my efforts to support the V FOUNDATION for Cancer Research.
My contributions have been significant…and I really feel good about all of them.
Next Saturday, MY TEAM and I will be honored with the FIRST SECRETARIAT VOX POPULI AWARD at Santa Anita. Mrs. Chenery, Secretariat’s owner, is the individual who personally selected US to be the first recipient of THIS AWARD! What an honor that we are her FIRST CHOICE…and that she is traveling so many miles to personally be at Santa Anita for the ceremony!
In relation to this celebration, Santa Anita is doing some wonderful artistic posters to commemorate the DAY! I have heard the posters will be sold that day at the track! For my part of the sale proceeds, I have requested my funds be equally shared between OLD FRIENDS and CANTER of CALIFORNIA. Both of these charities work with such devotion to help so many of my dear, horse friends!
Recently, Dottie saw samples of the posters and said they are lovely and quite beautifully done. (She did add…I look wonderful in them. BLUSH, BLUSH!)
All of this is such an HONOR…and QUITE EXTRAORDINARY!
I feel SO FORTUNATE to be able to HELP!
Enjoy your Sunday!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

Several people here are saying there should be a Zenyatta movie…yet, thank heaven, Z has had an even life since she was acquired…so there’s no real conflict in her life that we know of. I think a super documentary on her life would be a terrific idea…that personality of Z’s will charm everyone in the world! The word documentary is so stuffy and it turns people off, but the fact is, a very excellent one really shows the subject and her history, accomplishments, private times, play times, owner joy, and focuses on all the wonderful people around Z who have made her the love of our life. So let’s say it will be a BIOGRAPHY, not a documentary…but I know it will a big hit and all of us will own a copy so Z will be with us forever.

Congratulations to all of your Connections, Ms. Z, on reaching out to help other horses and people through you. Best wishes for a healthy retirement and successful future parenthood.

Thanks Zenny and to Team Z for all that you do to help other horses and people too! You are all very generous and your contributions are greatly appreciated. If I can make it to Santa Anita on Saturday, I’ll buy a poster. It has to be beautiful if you are on it, sweet girl!
Enjoy the warmer temps!
Love to all,
Leslie

Happy Sunday, Berni and Zen!(That has a nice ring to it, huh? Berni and Zen…..) Zenny, that is so cool! Congrads! Bernardini, you are truly the luckiest stallion in the world to be mating ZENYATTA! Wow! Well, best of luck to Berni, Zen, and the little unborn. I think you should name him/her Zendini. Bernyatta’s OK, but I think Zendini is cooler. Anyway, you know the things, so you decide. :D See you!
Luv,
Anna

I would LOVE to buy a poster-I won’t be able to make it to CA (I live in the Northeast).
Congratulations to Zenyatta and Team Zenyatta. Thank you for all that you do. And also, for helping those horses that really need it as well as children who want an education but can’t afford it.
There is so much positive to Zenyatta. She and you all are unforgettable :)

I wish I could be there . . . but I live 420 miles away . . . sigh.
I bought the Secretariat movie today. I think of all the race horses I have ever known of, you and Secretariat have done more for the sport and to stir interest in the sport than any other horses in recent history. There were others who could have been up there with the two of you, but sadly they are remembered largely for their phenomenal lives being tragically cut short (Ruffian, Barbaro, a few others).
I think it is very appropriate that you are the first recipient of that award since I think you are the first horse to ever truly approach Secretariat’s caliber. Someday (hopefully about 30 years from now!) you will meet him in horse heaven and the match race of all eternity can be run! I think it will end in a dead heat.
I’m so glad your foal will carry his blood. My own appendix quarter horses have his father and maternal grandfather in their lineage. I guess they are great-great-great grandnieces to Secretariat. I have a poster of him on my wall that I have treasured for over 30 years and soon a portrait of you will be hanging next to it. (It came in the mail yesterday)
You can be very proud of yourself to receive such a special honor, and you very much deserve it.
Debbie
hi Z, so good to hear from you daily! Congratulations on the award, will it be on TVG? I would love to see it:-) love you xo
Linda Henderson
Look forward to seeing the Zenyatta poster. I have one I am proud of from Opening Day at Santa Anita in 2009.

So UNFAIR that those of us who live 3,000 miles away across the country don’t get a chance to buy the posters! Any chance on SA doing a mass-market printing and selling them online,so the rest of us can enjoy the experience as well? It would be a GREAT charity fundraiser!!
Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS TEAM Z on the SVP Award!!! Most certainly deserved by EVERYONE on the team! Love you all!!!

z,you must think of doing a book, maybe for children, the next generation of racing fans! I am caring for my 92year old parents, and I look forward to your posts everyday. Keeps my spirits up as I take this lowly walk.

Zenyatta,
Thank you for giving so much of your self to
the people. You are truly a amazing horse. Do you know if your award will be televised. Glad your getting some good weather. Lots of love, hugs, and kisses from Houston.

It’s such a wonderful example of the honor and integrity of Team Zenyatta that our Queen Mare and all of them continue to have recognitions and rewards heaped on them. I am always humbled by the generosity and love that flows all around you, Zenyatta. Thank you!!
Sue Fredrick
Oh Zen, what a wonderful girl you truly are helping with all those charitable events. I would like a poster can they sell them on their website or how about yours? I hope the ceremony will be on TVG or somewhere where your fans can see it, this is a HISTORICAL MOMENT !! You will go down in history as the very first winner….what a great honor…. the accolades just keep pouring in don’t they. Now we just have to wait for Broodmare of the Year to complete your fabulous career. I’m coming down to your beautiful Kentucky in April in hopes of being able to see you, but if they don’t have things set up yet I’ll drive by in the car and wave to you and the girls in the pasture….watch for me. Bless you and all your wonderful family. Luv and kisses on your nose

You and your team are the best Zenny!

It’s so great, all the help that you are able to give all your older horse friends!! I wish you could’ve known Secretariat. He was very special, just like you. I think the two of you would’ve been great friends. His owner, Mrs. Chenery is also very very special and I know you and your team will just love her… Have a lovely week sweetheart…
Karey
Gloria, Thank you for mentioning that the prints of Secretariat and Zenyatta can be seen on santaanita.com. The portraits are both stunningly beautiful, and it brings tears of joy to know that Penny Chenery is honoring Zenyatta along with her beloved Secretariat in this truly heartfelt way. “Our” Queen Z blog spot, with Dottie and so many Z fans offering such insider information to all of us…. It boggles my mind, it tugs at my heart, and it brings up gratitude from a very deep place within.

You and your team are most generous and kind. You have changed so many lives and inspired others to Never Give UP. I salute you Queen Z, we humans have a great deal to learn from you.

Queen Z – no horse since Secretariat has had the look of eagles or perfect conformation or running style like you. You are more than deserving. No horse has moved me more than you since Secretariat. Love you big girl – can’t wait to see your new baby!
Marian M.
You and your team deserve a standing ovation for all that you do for others. I never cease to be amazed by your thoughtfulness and generosity. Thank you.

Z….I live in VA….so hope we can see the award given by Penny Chenery on TV…maybe TVG will have it??? I think you were sent here from Heaven to make all this happiness for your fans and all you do for such great charity work. Who would have thought what goodness came from your racing….but most of all what really caught everyone’s attention…is your sweet personality and your fun personality with your dancing….there has never been a horse on or off the track as wonderful as you Z. You have truly been a blessing to so many people. But also a blessing has been your Team Zenyatta….how could you and them not be a blessing from above…for all the good you all have done. Love to you Z…..
victoria
