Good Afternoon, It is rather nice here in Lexington today….in the 40′s. It’s good to hear that we are supposed to have ‘nice’ weather in KY for the next several days. My CA FRIENDS mentioned that it is a bit ‘chilly’ there today…somewhat gray and overcast. It has been very warm weather in CA lately so it is probably nice to have it ‘cool off a bit’. In reality, it is winter time!
I wanted to share with you a photo of my friends from LAS PROFESIONALES AUXILIARY MEMBERS…ASSISTANCE LEAGUE..SAN PEDRO-SOUTH BAY! This is the organization which invited me to become an HONORARY MEMBER last December…the day I was honored at Hollywood Park. These women wanted to honor me for all of my PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS as well as my CHARITABLE WORK! (Please note: MY PHOTO is hanging on their Chapter House wall…right behind them in this picture.) As a gift, they had a fabulous ‘warm and toasty’ blanket made for me to use while in KY. It is very nice!
Well, The Assistance League is celebrating its 75th ANNIVERSARY on May 1, 2011…and I am going to be IN their Anniversary Program. This is truly an honor. I know I am a THOROUGHBRED RACE HORSE….but it is so encouraging to note that HUMANS have recognized MY ACHIEVEMENTS AS AN ATHLETE as well as MY CHARITABLE EFFORTS.
Helping others by supporting various charities has been a big part of my life during the last few years. In reality, I have tried to focus on helping in whatever way I possibly could. I have worked to help my FELLOW HORSES…who need to be retrained for a 2nd career or simply have a safe and happy place to retire as they get older. I have also strived to help provide for student scholarships…by working with RACE FOR EDUCATION. Additionally, I have been very active with my efforts to support the V FOUNDATION for Cancer Research.
My contributions have been significant…and I really feel good about all of them.
Next Saturday, MY TEAM and I will be honored with the FIRST SECRETARIAT VOX POPULI AWARD at Santa Anita. Mrs. Chenery, Secretariat’s owner, is the individual who personally selected US to be the first recipient of THIS AWARD! What an honor that we are her FIRST CHOICE…and that she is traveling so many miles to personally be at Santa Anita for the ceremony!
In relation to this celebration, Santa Anita is doing some wonderful artistic posters to commemorate the DAY! I have heard the posters will be sold that day at the track! For my part of the sale proceeds, I have requested my funds be equally shared between OLD FRIENDS and CANTER of CALIFORNIA. Both of these charities work with such devotion to help so many of my dear, horse friends!
Recently, Dottie saw samples of the posters and said they are lovely and quite beautifully done. (She did add…I look wonderful in them. BLUSH, BLUSH!)
All of this is such an HONOR…and QUITE EXTRAORDINARY!
I feel SO FORTUNATE to be able to HELP!
Enjoy your Sunday!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

Good afternoon, Zenyatta! I’ve said it before but it bears repeating again…you, my dear, are simply the GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING! Thanks is not enough for you and your entire team who have partnered with others for the betterment of horses everywhere…humans, too, through the Jimmy V Foundation. I’m glad to hear your weather is better. I’ll bet you and your GF are enjoying your paddock time. Just wait for Spring…you will love rolling in the bluegrass. Hugs to you and wonderful Dottie who keep this blog alive for us.

Guess I will be stalking ebay for those posters to show up since I live in Virginia! I still think you should be in the movie about you….even if it is just a shot of you grazing in the field at Lane’s End and then someone start telling your story…..

Its a wonderful thing that you celebrate the after the track horses. they deserve all the assistance they can get. It was so neat the day Penny Chenery came to CA and out to the races to see Zenyatta, with her (Penny’s) blue/white sweater on. We’ll have to go to Santa Anita next week and get some posters ! It is so great that Ms. Chenery put out the Vox Populi award . . . !!!

You and Barbaro have done a world of good in the lives of many (humans and horses), I’m thankful to have lived this period in time. I plan to purchase your print, but have a conflict I’m trying to work out, if for some reason I can’t get out there, is there a place where we could purchase this print?

I love each and every one of these diary posts! I hope they continue for a long time, Dottie!
Still think of you every day, Zenyatta! I can’t wait to go on vacation to Hawaii so I can wear my Z baseball cap. I don’t really wear hats unless I’m at the beach so it’s just one more reason to be excited for a vacation. I’ll be bringing YOU along!
Shannon From Cool
Yet another wonderful group that you have touched, dear Zenyatta. Thank you for sending such beautiful messages into the world.
Donna from Baltimore
Is the Vox Populi event going to be televised or on a live feed? I’ll be searching you-tube for videos of it aftewards, if not. As I have said many, many times before Zenny, you and your whole team (CA and KY) are class acts. We’re all hoping others in the industry follow the example.

Zen,
As usual you reflect the quality of your owners and TEAM. Your work is an example for all who work to save and protect the animals of our planet.
