Good Morning,
At this time, many of you have read the Moss’ have announced my MATING PLANS for this year! I will be going to BERNARDINI! I asked John to find this photo of me from his BARN 55 files…it is a few months old. I really did KICK UP MY HEELS here at the farm upon hearing the news that all had been finalized and announced. This is very exciting!
Not only are we a wonderful match genetically…we complement each other in many other aspects. Additionally, and this is a sidebar to all of the other great reasons we are a match, Dottie was teasing me this morning that BOTH of us have MOMS who have been recognized in the industry as “BROODMARE OF THE YEAR”. This is a very special fact that I want to keep in my memory bank. I hope I continue this tradition…as my future babies grow up!
I love all of the INTERNET activity that is going on now! There are even forums and contests for NAMING MY BABY! I LOVE THIS! Darley (which is BERNARDINI’S HOME) did a press release as well about our future plans. I have to comment…I love the fact that in HIS photo “B” is wearing a BLUE AND WHITE BROWBAND…just like I have in some of my photos. (I guess we even have the same sense of style and taste in accessories. This is certainly very cute!)
There is another article out now by Andrew Cohen that literally has me ‘giggling’ this morning. It is titled: BERNYATTA: THE WORLD’S NEWEST POWER COUPLE. Here is the link for it!
This is really very cute. THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT ME! Wow! I hope the storyline presented starts your day with a SMILE! It sure did that for ME!
With Love~
Hugs to ALL!

and in respect to my recent mating announcement……”B”

I love this! Exciting news! In honor of this wonderful “love story” I would name the foal, if a filly, “Storia d’Amore” (italian for love story)or “Appassionata” (with passion, female form of the word). Just having fun with this!

To ENSIGN: I, too, appreciate the information you’ve provided, at the moment the “breeding shed” photo. I’d pictured some rundown shed, cramped and stifling. It’s the word “shed” that did it. The picture you offered looks more like a “breeding estate room.” Handsome architecture, clean, inviting.
As for MareStare, I hope that the birth of Zenyatta’s foal is viewed by those close to her only; later, if the Moss’s decided to they could share a video of the birth to the WWW.
I think a George and Martha children’s story gives the right message in this culture in which so much is subjected to the “stare.” George and Martha, hippopotamuses, are good friends. However, when Martha took baths George would watch through the bathroom window. One day Martha noticed. She picked up the bathtub and hit George over the head with it lightly (being a hippopotamus she could pick up the tub, and being a hippopotamus George was not hurt). Martha accompanied this gesture with the following words: “There is such a thing as privacy!” RPK

Sooooo happy for you and “B” and can’t wait to see your babies!! Now I will be keeping up with Bernyatta – People magazine needs to keep up as well!!

Intending neither to be flowery [but willing to drop a daisy down the Guardsman’s barrel], nor snarky [great word], and being afraid to be afraid to differ, I do care enough gingerly to venture that combined names generally conjure visions of ice-rink re-surfacers. ~ Here, two of the most titled, majestic, refined incarnations of Horse alive — mated — may create a life to exceed imagination, capability and accomplishment. As only one voice/one vote, I am still breathless to see how this little life might be called to greatness by the mare`s extended Family to discover and reflect the potential influence of each parent, together, on the future of bloodstock racing. What`s in a name? Sting says it brings totemic power. With so much at stake, and paparazzi the mediocre bane of celebrity . .. Not a contraction, please, but a concerto. Thank you. Khc.

Oh my, this is an exceptionally wonderful piece of news Zenyatta, you and Bernardini. This is surely going to be an exciting time for you as well as your family and all of your fans. Will be following each and every moment of this fairytale love story and looking forward to the future and what it holds for you both! This brings a smile to my face but as always, anything and everything you do brings smiles and happiness.
Love & Blessings to you dear sweet Zenyatta!!

I am thinking Zendini is better, ladies first after all! Well I like the fact that you are both dark so hopefully so will baby be, I love the dark bays and blacks the best and you are so gorgeous and so is he. Cannot wait to see the baby! Love you sweet Zenny, do you go to his farm?

@ Janet Cutting,
.
You’re welcome.
11 months gestation for horses. Some mares will go slightly under 11 months, many slightly over. Unlike humans, mares never truly have a ‘due date’. When the foal is done baking, out it comes ;-)
.
It was announced Zenyatta would be bred towards the end of February. Assuming she catches on her first cover you could expect her to foal mid to late January next year. Many open (not pregnant) mares will be bred in the 1st few weeks of the breeding season, but with maidens you’ve got no prior history on whether they tend to foal early or late, so most use caution and breed a few weeks after the sheds have opened. Not many want to risk a foal born at the end of December!
.
Because of the ‘shared’ January 1st birthday for all TBs people strive for early born foals. It’s important to have a mature youngster when you’re looking at early year races like the Ky Derby.

Ya Hoo WOMAN POWER — YOU MAKE MORE THAN YOU MAN! Girl Power all the way!!!
You will lead the way for equine and human’s in equality! I do say that he is a pretty hot looking stallion. I am so excited to see what your foals look like. This is awesome! I hope we get more pictures and video (hint hint). Lots of updates (well not on the actual date) you are the Queen and all! I want to see the foal born! Cool! If we are all watching with so many updates, we will watch your foals forever! History!!. . . . In the making right before our very eyes. How exciting.
Thanks for all involved for sharing this time in our horse racing history!

Frankly, I’m not that fond of “combos” either. Danceofdreams.

Dearest Zenyatta, The announcment of your coming “wedding” is certainly making for big news! I loved the article you posted. I hope you’re keeping it along with all the others in your scrapbook. Thanks for sharing with us all the details and your great happiness. I wouldn’t dare to venture a name for your little one to be. He or she will tell you when the time is right. I have great confidence in your family’s intuitive abilities to make the right choice! Sending you and yours a big ABRAZOTE! Julie Ann

Congrats Queen Z!! If you continue to gain weight your foal will be a colt 80% of the time according to recent studies. As with many studies there could be some flaws.Having seen Bernardini at the BCC at Churchill, I am very impressed with the choice. He has a great presence, wonderful conformation and has an effortless style of running. This foal on paper should be a world beater! I hope you settle on the first cover and have an uneventful pregnancy and a safe delivery.
Yes, it should be Zenadini when you talk about the power couple. Your name should always be first.
L
Personally I would not want to be watching any sort of live webcam for her first foaling. Foaling is no easy task and it comes with a great deal of risk to both the mare and the foal. Let her get her baby safely on the ground, get the foal up and nursing, then let the world join in.
In the wild mares take themselves off to find privacy to drop their foals, I’d like to give Zenyatta this same dignity.
Linda Henderson
I hope Bernardini is worthy.

Who else but a horse named “Zenyatta” could have so many adults gushing over an upcoming “marriage”. :-) This is quite the phenomenon I’d say. Only one other comes to mind who was able to create such a stir…and his name was “Secretariat”. I’m pretty proud of the fact I’ve lived long enough to see both. What a treat.
Congrats to Team Zenyatta for their continued dedication to bringing forth the best for the sport, the fans and their beautiful mare.
Happy for Z and B! Dottie…you’re the best!

Wow, what a gorgeous stallion!
I think you are both lucky horses — and the world will be watching to see your baby set the world on fire in a few years.
I will pray for a memorable honeymoon, an easy pregnancy, a quick uncomplicated delivery, and a healthy beautiful baby for you to love and raise and tell all about your love of racing.
And I’m predicting a filly. With your blaze and socks.

OVER 62,000 FACEBOOK FRIENDS, BEAUTIFUL Z!!! Quite an accomplishment…

Dear Zetty,
you’re going to go on your first date here pretty soon, I’m going to hold my breath.
I’m just not ready for you to go into the Mama phase just yet.
But off you go you must, I wished it was already over. But you’re brave, heck, you ran races, and won them! And it looked tough, stuff couldda happened. Get all the sleep now, and eat well. Keep the positive energy flowing. Sleep tight, and sweet dreams of all your favorites.
Cheryl Denton
Zenyatta, you always make me smile. I know you and Bernardini will make an awesome and sweet baby. I met B. back in 2009 and thought he was a very nice stallion. You two compliment each other beautifully. Have a great weekend my sweet and beautiful girl–love you! xx
Cathleen
Dear Zenny, Congratulations on your date with Bernardini! What a great match. I hope John keeps stall 85 at Barn 55 empty and reserved for your first baby that I’m sure will be a star, just like you! XOXO
