Good Morning,
At this time, many of you have read the Moss’ have announced my MATING PLANS for this year! I will be going to BERNARDINI! I asked John to find this photo of me from his BARN 55 files…it is a few months old. I really did KICK UP MY HEELS here at the farm upon hearing the news that all had been finalized and announced. This is very exciting!
Not only are we a wonderful match genetically…we complement each other in many other aspects. Additionally, and this is a sidebar to all of the other great reasons we are a match, Dottie was teasing me this morning that BOTH of us have MOMS who have been recognized in the industry as “BROODMARE OF THE YEAR”. This is a very special fact that I want to keep in my memory bank. I hope I continue this tradition…as my future babies grow up!
I love all of the INTERNET activity that is going on now! There are even forums and contests for NAMING MY BABY! I LOVE THIS! Darley (which is BERNARDINI’S HOME) did a press release as well about our future plans. I have to comment…I love the fact that in HIS photo “B” is wearing a BLUE AND WHITE BROWBAND…just like I have in some of my photos. (I guess we even have the same sense of style and taste in accessories. This is certainly very cute!)
There is another article out now by Andrew Cohen that literally has me ‘giggling’ this morning. It is titled: BERNYATTA: THE WORLD’S NEWEST POWER COUPLE. Here is the link for it!
This is really very cute. THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT ME! Wow! I hope the storyline presented starts your day with a SMILE! It sure did that for ME!
With Love~
Hugs to ALL!
Z
and in respect to my recent mating announcement……”B”

It’s good to hear others thinking is similar to mine….that John/Dottie/Mosses could very well be there.
@Ensign-thanks for the photo of observation area. I’ve learned so much from your post. Thank you again. :):)

Dearest Sweet “Z”,
I love the name Bernardini; as my father’s middle name is Bernard and my son’s is also Bernard. We have kept it a family tradition as it means “Brave as a Bear!” Of course, “Bernadette” is also a lovely name for a little filly : )
Debbie
i hope I see more of Z and B than A and B! Lol. Angle and Brad!
DJ
On second thought, Bernadetta might be even more lovely for our Zenyatta…
The Kennedys in San Diego
Great press release by Darley. They have to be thrilled for their homebred. Someone mentioned Bernardini is called “The Prince” at Darley — so glad he is not called “Bernie.”

Great post…one thing I’ve heard is that those Italian lovers love to “love um and leave um”! So make sure your namesake comes first…So far, I like ZENDINI the best!!! Hoping for a healthy maternity and a healthy foal. The best to you both, Z & B!

Kennedys, Janet C, Livey,

You’re all most welcome :-)

Another site that may be of interest to some (nothing offensive to delicate sensibilities, promise ;-) ) is MARESTARE. It’s a website that hosts in stall, live cams on mares about to foal, and those that have just foaled. These are privately owned horses, whose owners are gracious enough to share their foaling experiences with the world wide web.
.
I’m sure it could be an educational site for those who’ve never seen a foal born. If you’re willing to stay up late you might just catch one happening!
.
http://www.marestare.com/
.
Click on ‘Public Cams’ then on ‘Live Cams’ and you’ll see a list of farms who have mares on camera. Some will have foals at side already, having already foaled.
The ‘Video Replays’ will show you some births that have occured on the site. Moderators there will often record a birth for those who were watching a mare but missed the actual event.

Hi Sweetheart – Great choice for your new mate. Bernardini looks like a hunk & he has the speed to go with his good looks & physique. Your baby will be gorgeous & very talented. Hope everything goes well for you next month. Rest up & take care!
Judy Idriss
Zenny, first of all, I would like to say how much I enjoy reading your daily diary. Such fun & quite informative. I was hoping your first date would be with A P Indy but Bernardini sounds like a great selection. Doesn’t hurt that he was one of Indy’s most successful offsprings. I am so looking forward to the coming months. I know you will be a wonderful Mom. Love you!
Debbie
congrats Z! the babe’s name should begin with YOURS!!! love you xo

You lucky girl!

I just read the article, that was posted. Yes you have the honor to pass on such greatness that Ruffian never had the chance to. As they say time will only tell when your offspring puts their mark in the racing industry. I am positive with the great homework that was done, they will make you a proud mother!! Although as a Mom myself we are always proud of our children no matter what! Kisses to you Zenyatta

Awwww Z and B!! So cute!

Beautiful Zenyatta, A thought to keep in mind. Could you please ask Dottie if it would be permissable to refer to you as Queen Mother instead of a broodmare. That would be for the event when you are named Broodmare of the Year. OK? Love and Hugs

Haha, Bernyatta was my first idea for your baby, although I like Zendini, too :)
Bernardini is one lucky stud! (and he’s speedy, too) Your baby will be gorgeous, fast and have plenty of heart (and will probably like dancing, too :) You know of course, that we will all be keeping track of your progress, and we know you will be a wonderful mom, with that sweet personality of yours.

One of Bernardini’s greatest wins was at the Preakness, but all I remember about that day was the breakdown of the GREAT Barbaro. We loved him like we love you Z. He was a big, beautiful brave boy. I love that you are being bred to Bernardini so that I can now associate this gorgeous and talented stallion with you Z – the one who heals hearts. Seems fitting.
Sharon
Since the Mosses have been SOOO generous sharing Zenyatta with the public, I wonder if they would consider having her fans participate in naming the future royal heir!!! Maybe they could choose 3-5 of their favorite names and ask fans to vote!! I still love “Zendini” the best, but Zen Master is cool also!
Joan
Dear Z, I think your little one should be named “RENATA” Italian derived from the Latin Renatus, it means Born Again and that is what we all are hoping for in your foal.I checked with the jockey club site and it is available.Hoping all will go well.
Love you.
pamela
Congratulations Zenyatta!! It is wonderful to hear that Bernardini will be the father of your first foal. He is very handsome. Can’t wait to hear the annoucement of your pregnancy. You will be a great mother. Love You!
Jennifer Adelman
Dear Zenyatta, You have one handsome stud. I remember Bernadini when he won the Preakness after the horrific Barbaro breakdown. His trainer was so gracious about it. I am so happy for all his connections.
Must be a science to pick the stud. Does anyone know about his personality? His conformation looks just wonderful. He will need a stepping stool! I heard that he’s 16.1 and Zenyatta is 17 with a high end perfect muscular tush. Those professionals will figure it out!!!
Hugs!!
Hugs!

@Joan, I like that “Renata”, I love that.
Kathy
You two defiantly top Bradjolina to me!
Helen & Guido
Congratulations Zenny, how exciting. I know the Moss’s will pick the BEST name for your offspring and they have certainly earned the right to do so. Family Z has treated you and your fans with much care.
Joan
@ Lisa G
Thanks I have spent a lot of time and looking at a lot of Italian/Latin names
and when I came across it I said that’s it, perfect.

Hi Zenny:
“Bernyatta!” Don’t you just love it! We have definitely embarked on another wild and wonderful ride. “The Prince” is a really handsome stallion. Great choice. You two really do make a most beautiful “Royal” couple and I’m sure your foal will be spectacular.
Hugs & nose kisses.

The world will never stop talking about you, Zenyatta. You will always be the reigning Queen.

Beautiful ZENYATTA I am disappointed with the choice of Bernardini for your future mate …He is not a proven sire to me with only one foal crop on the ground , give him a few years to prove he is a stallion of the future , now his sire AP INDY should be your mate he is a wonder Stallion and proven years over and over …But I am not the Moss’s they have the money and the say . I HOPE they are not sorry with they’re choice, we will all know in a few years that is if they do not sell the foal before then…It will be truly sought after , I will follow you forever, I love you , you are the best and deserve only the best…GOD BLESS YOU ZENYATTA…LOVE YOU, LOVE YOU, LOVE YOU
Gerrie P.
Hey, I’m jumping on this bandwagon.
What about Zendarini?
