Good Morning,
At this time, many of you have read the Moss’ have announced my MATING PLANS for this year! I will be going to BERNARDINI! I asked John to find this photo of me from his BARN 55 files…it is a few months old. I really did KICK UP MY HEELS here at the farm upon hearing the news that all had been finalized and announced. This is very exciting!
Not only are we a wonderful match genetically…we complement each other in many other aspects. Additionally, and this is a sidebar to all of the other great reasons we are a match, Dottie was teasing me this morning that BOTH of us have MOMS who have been recognized in the industry as “BROODMARE OF THE YEAR”. This is a very special fact that I want to keep in my memory bank. I hope I continue this tradition…as my future babies grow up!
I love all of the INTERNET activity that is going on now! There are even forums and contests for NAMING MY BABY! I LOVE THIS! Darley (which is BERNARDINI’S HOME) did a press release as well about our future plans. I have to comment…I love the fact that in HIS photo “B” is wearing a BLUE AND WHITE BROWBAND…just like I have in some of my photos. (I guess we even have the same sense of style and taste in accessories. This is certainly very cute!)
There is another article out now by Andrew Cohen that literally has me ‘giggling’ this morning. It is titled: BERNYATTA: THE WORLD’S NEWEST POWER COUPLE. Here is the link for it!
This is really very cute. THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT ME! Wow! I hope the storyline presented starts your day with a SMILE! It sure did that for ME!
With Love~
Hugs to ALL!
Z
and in respect to my recent mating announcement……”B”
Linda
Love the attention that is being displayed. I am sure you will have a beautiful foal. More photos please.
Diana
Wow, a power couple name! How cute! Yes, you are American Royalty!

@ Marilu Villanueva,
.
No, Zenyatta will not need to stay at Darley. She’ll be vanned over the day she’d to be bred. There she’ll be covered and taken right back to Lane’s End. Shouldn’t be more than a 2 hour trip at most.
.
Sometimes when mares come in from out of state, they will spend 30 – 90 days at the breeding farm until the pregnancy is confirmed (about 16 days after breeding) and somewhat established. Mares living within a few hours of where they’re to be bred don’t usually stay longer than the time it takes to be covered and sent home.
Anna
Z, you always make me smile! I was so excited to hear that Bernardini will be your first date. I know you’re going to be a great momma, and I can’t wait to watch those babies come thundering down the track!
Pat Beck
Love it, girlfriend! I think it would be lots of fun to have a contest to name your baby, but I bet Ann and Jerry want to have some say in that decision!
Maria
Oh Yeah, that is really a nice article by Andrew Cohen. But I am not sure with the name Bernyatta. I think Bernardini is a good mate for you. It will be excited to find out later on who the baby will look like. Love you Queen Z!
Robin
Dear Zenny:
I’ve been having the neatest vision of your foal and the other foals being released into their paddock when they are of age and the conversations they will have as they get to know each other. Inevitably the question will come up…who is your mom? I can just imagine the ooh’s and aaah’s and even an awestruck silence as your foal announces, “Zenyatta!”. Love you!
Lisa g
Ms Zenyatta, read the article and I had trouble calling you two The Bernyatta Power Couple, I agree that The Queen’s name come first even if it is for the celebrity status of power couples. If you are good with it so am I, it is cute, but you should be first. I was very happy to see Ruffian was included in the article..both of you have strong, independent names. I am excited about your date and cannot wait to hear all the details. I know you are busy and all, but I would like to know more of the considerations that took place that made the final decision of your handsome MR. Have you seen his FB, girl, he is crazy about U. Talk with you later, I love ya, Big Girl…Lisa g.
Shiva Scanlon
The Great Zendini. Can’t wait to see Zenyatta & her foal.
Debbi M
I have to take exception to the Bernyatta supercouple tag. Girlfriend, YOU are the star and YOUR name should come first. :)

I had mentioned above about some farms having viewing areas around/above the breeding shed. A good example in this photo, which is at Ashford Stud in Ky:

Zenyatta,
What a fine article. Many thanks to the Moss’s and John and Dottie for sharing Zenyatta’s life with us. I hope the Moss’s keep all of Zenyatta’s babies and John trains them. Lots of love from Houston. :)
Marilu Villanueva
Hi Ensign! Thanks for the information. I just learned something new. Darley is about 30 minutes away from Lanes End so she is not too far away from Bernardini. MV
Loretta B
I would name the foal ‘Made in Heaven’
Ann Maree
Hi, Z! I’m so excited for you! I found pictures of you and Bernardini with your two headbands just alike, and also, pictures that look like you are in the same pasture (almost…not yet, though)!
Take a look: http://www.TheZenyattaEffect.com
Y’all look like the perfect couple. One thing for sure, you will have a beautiful foal, a beautiful horse or filly!
Take care…let us know when! Hugs! Your friend, Ann Maree

Most of the posts bring tears to the horselovers eye.

the Mosses are very clever with the names they choose for their horses. this will be neat…..but don’t forget, ladies, there’s a longgg way to go still. will pray for Zenny’s continued good health and her CA families’, too. that includes YOU, Dottie, because DOTTIE ROCKS!!!
Leslie R.
Hi Zenny, this is all exciting news. I think Bernardini was a great choice and I’m sure much thought went into the decision. Your baby won’t be along until next spring, but I’m very excited! I can’t think of a more anticipated foal than yours!
I believe you’ll keep the tradition alive and one day you’ll also be Broodmare of the Year, just like your mom.
Thanks to the link to the article about Bernyatta: The New Power Couple! It had me giggling too! Very cute!
Have a good night, sweet girl.
Love to all,
Leslie

It would not surprise me if the Moss’s were in attendance for the cover. However I hope that John will have his hands full with a busy, thriving training barn back in CA. Perhaps even starting to work with Zenyatta’s little sister!
Marilyn Hill-Russell
Bernyatta, my thoughts exactly.
Elaine Lovitt
If only Secretariat were still around. Oh well, somebody better tell Bernardini to bring a step ladder with him on your first date.
Stephanie J Lambert
Just Bernie, I love the Name Bernie :)that fits… x0x0x0 I am so happy you went with that line, it is the only one befitting you :) x0x0x0x0

Zenny! Are WE excited or what! Such great news about your fella. My only question is one Mike posed…is he really worthy of you? ;-) He should pay the fee and not you. Afterall, you are the Queen. His name will be more recognized because of his association with YOU! I am thrilled these diary posts continue. We are fans spread across the miles, united in a common love for a special horse. I can’t wait to hear your pregnancy is confirmed (sometime in early spring no doubt). Ann and Jerry have chosen well for you. All of Team Z must be so happy for you. I read where Steve said you were ready to be a mom. The time is almost here.

There is an article at bloodhorse.com entitled “Choosing Zenyatta’s First Mating” that everyone might find interesting. It can be found here:

Enjoy!

Most will find the Blood-Horse. com piece by Lenny Shulman on the decision process on Zenyatta’s breeding interesting. Per Shulman, Dottie played a pivotal role in the decision. I understand her background/education was heavily concentrated in statistics and, of course, Thoroughbreds.
Cindy
I bet Mr. Moss digs into his recording files and comes up with yet another name from his A&M days. It will be very interesting to watch. Of course, it’ll be a year b4 we know. LOL, she hasn’t even met Bernardini yet, and we’re all trying to name her baby! Too cute!
The Kennedys in San Diego
The Power Couple should be “Zendini”, The Queen first, The Prince second.
@ENSIGN — We do appreciate your informative participation/responses on these posts.

Ann Maree– what a great blog you have! All the articles were wonderful. I note that you lived in Dallas. I was born there and lived there until college. We should have met and talked horses. What fun!
I’m so glad our DARLING GIRL is getting the recognition she has deserved for so long.

Great News Zen,
Your first meeting with Bernardini will be as controlled as the professionals can make it.
I am sure those who are directly involved with the breeding process will be there for you on a NEED TO BE basis. Your vets, handlers and others who care only for your health the stallions well being and safety.
There are several good educational sites those who have questions can go to and read and learn. There you know you are getting appropriate information.
Here I would like to talk to you Zen on your terms.
I have read about the bloodline for both of you and am waiting as I am sure you are for your first born.
Take care Zen.
Mary Stanford
That is so cute you two are now the new power couple….Angelina and Brad have nothing on you two. But all this will take time….so for now… let us fans just enjoy your posts, pictures, and videos. We love you for “you” Z….hugs to you.
