Good Morning,
At this time, many of you have read the Moss’ have announced my MATING PLANS for this year! I will be going to BERNARDINI! I asked John to find this photo of me from his BARN 55 files…it is a few months old. I really did KICK UP MY HEELS here at the farm upon hearing the news that all had been finalized and announced. This is very exciting!
Not only are we a wonderful match genetically…we complement each other in many other aspects. Additionally, and this is a sidebar to all of the other great reasons we are a match, Dottie was teasing me this morning that BOTH of us have MOMS who have been recognized in the industry as “BROODMARE OF THE YEAR”. This is a very special fact that I want to keep in my memory bank. I hope I continue this tradition…as my future babies grow up!
I love all of the INTERNET activity that is going on now! There are even forums and contests for NAMING MY BABY! I LOVE THIS! Darley (which is BERNARDINI’S HOME) did a press release as well about our future plans. I have to comment…I love the fact that in HIS photo “B” is wearing a BLUE AND WHITE BROWBAND…just like I have in some of my photos. (I guess we even have the same sense of style and taste in accessories. This is certainly very cute!)
There is another article out now by Andrew Cohen that literally has me ‘giggling’ this morning. It is titled: BERNYATTA: THE WORLD’S NEWEST POWER COUPLE. Here is the link for it!
This is really very cute. THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT ME! Wow! I hope the storyline presented starts your day with a SMILE! It sure did that for ME!
With Love~
Hugs to ALL!
Z
and in respect to my recent mating announcement……”B”
Alene
Hi sweetness and joy.. Love you Zenny!!! I read this post before but didn`t respond yet. Bernyatta seems a little rough but its cute.. It will take a while to name your babe…It will be something very special. Like its MOM and dad. I think, just a feeling I have that your baby will be GRAY. Just like Spectacular Bid… Just a feeling. You also have SECRETARIAT all over the place..Couldn`t get much better then that. The pedigrees all down the line are AWESOME. Just like you. I told you before, I use your name on a dating site and you should see the responses I get.. I`ll tell you girl, we are two hot chics!!! Love You Zenny, Lots of Big Hugs and Kisses, Alene

Good Morning, Zenny! I, too, have E-Mailed the ass—- at ESPN for his rude, cruel comments. Too bad he doesn’t have the class of you and your connections.
Happy Harriet
Good Morning lovely Zenyatta.
.
I hope you and the girls are enjoying a special weekend of massage and manicures while you wait for your suitors. You’ve captured a very handsome one, Queen Z, and he is a talented race horse at that! Now cover your ears while the grown ups talk amongst themselves.
.
To my fellow Zenyatta Fans: Email complaints count. I hope you will send your thoughts about “The Ugly One” to the appropriate recipients, as I have.
.
OK Queen Z – you can come back in the room now, and give all of us a BIG HUG before you go out to romp, run, buck, and nibble.
.
Anyone interested in gathering at/for the Secretariat award for our Queen on February 5 at Santa Anita can email: GoToSeePenny@AOL.com and look for announcements/plans here and on Facebook. See you at the races! ~~HH

@L–thanks for the link. Despicable comment going way beyond ‘horse racing fans’.
@Joan–so hard to do such a good thing–thanks for encouragement.

I heard it through the eeeeeeaaaaaaaas, the mule nation and donkey nations are standing behind Zenyatta!!
Please, don’t use ‘ass’ in misrepresentation of Zenyatta’s supporters!!
Idiot, dullard, oaf, simpleton, nitwit, retin, saphead, going into 74mode (borderline) while still having a job, all of these would be fitting for humans only.
Lynn
Congratulations Queen Z!!!! I know you are very excited at this moment. Could you perhaps send a note to a HUGE secret admirer “down the road ” at Old Friends”? Little Silver Charm has been secretly pining away for you and trying to plan a ” secret” visit. He seems depressed and a personal note from you would mean the world to him. He has his own Facebook page with postings (mainly about his love for you!) under “Little Silver Charm at Old Friends”. Thanks for helping out the little guy.
Barbara Wood
@Lynn,
Little Silver Charm is adorable and known for his soccer playing! That alone should impress our Z. She IS, after all, into athleticism.

@Linda
I didn’t read the entire article, Kathryn probably did, but the jeist of it was The Bureau of Land Management was onlt in for $450 per horse as support and the Pickens had asked for $500. As much $$$ as Boone has , he may tell his better half to go for it with the $450 and move on down the road. Just my thoughts. I can’t see a billionaire digging in over $50. per animal. Kathryn am I off base with my perception of the article. I just skimmed it when reading.
Love ya Zen.
Joan
Sorry that @ should have been Suzanne.
Dani
@Mike Sekulic – I did read your commentary and enjoyed immensely your wonderful photographs of the Queen. You’ve captured her essence and it just never ceases to amaze me when I look at a new photograph of her – she just keeps looking more and more beautiful. How can that be when she is already the most beautiful horse in the world? So thank you for sharing with us your moments with her and the lovely images and memories of her on and off the track. …..
@Ensign. I cannot thank you enough for being back here on the Diary website. Your information and input are so valuable to all of us who are new to the inner world of horses. You explain everything so well and in layman’s terms. You are very much appreciated. …..
@Kathryn Cogswell – Thanks for your link to the Thoroughbred Times ‘Five Mintues with John Shirreffs. I love those little simple Q&As where you find out the most interesting personal details and fun facts about people you want to know about better. ….
@The ‘Diary Gang’ – that is what I have come to call everyone who posts on the site. It has been so wonderful to see how this little community of fans have grown and have bonded together with one another on all things Zenyatta, as well as other horse related matters. It’s nice to be a part of such a good group of diverse and interesting and passionate people.
Bonnie MacRaith
Dear Dottie, I asked yesterday for Zenyatta’s exact height. I didn’t need to bother you it was right here on her website under “Fun Facts”, she’s 17.2 hands. Thanks!

Re the “unmentionable” comment made on ESPN Thursday, in addition to using the “contact us” link on the ESPN homepage, those who are so moved to write the old-fashioned way can send a letter to: ESPN Inc., ESPN Plaza, Bristol, Connecticut 06010 and you could put on the envelope “Attn: Pardon the Interruption Producers.”
We need to keep it classy, as Zenyatta and her connections would want, but let’s not miss the chance to make our thoughts known immediately. Wilbon needs to make a formal, on-air apology to Zenyatta asap!
Now, back to the happy topic of Zenny and her bright future!! : )

@ ALENE,
.
While a wonderful thought, there is no possibility that the foal from Zenyatta & Bernardini will be GREY. To produce a grey offspring, atleast one parent must be grey and pass along that grey gene.
.
As an aside, all TBs registered as GREY/ROAN are actually ALL grey. The roan gene does not exist in TBs :-) Grey horses do go through some funny stages & color changes that sometimes look like roan, but roan is a seperate gene from grey, which is truly a coat ‘modifier’.
.
@ DANI,
Always a pleasure. Thank you for the kind words.

@ENSIGN You are a wealth of information. Thank you.

Hi sweet Z! It’s cold here in Wi., but you made me all warm inside. I will be thinking of you always, especially with your up coming first date with Bernadini!! He sure looks great. I absolutely love you & your name Zenyatta. The Moss’s will find the perfect name for your foal. I do hope however, that the name will begin with part of yours. Thanks for the link, it was great but I don’t care for his official name Bernyatta. Bern just shouldn’t come first; your the Queen. “Zendini” is logical & catchy, as others have said; also Zenyadini, good. How about Zendindy (Zen din dy)or Zenyadindy; A little plug for A P Indy too! Oh, wow, this is such fun to throw around names. Right now Z, just have fun chitty-chatting and playing with your girlfriends. Stay warm, healthy and happy as you are right now. Love n a kiss on your soft nose!!

Hello Zenny!
Just wanted to stop by and remember another great horse that also captivated so many… Barbaro, you sure would have loved him “Z”
Barbara Wood
@Dani–thank you for your support of all of us in the “diary gang”. I enjoy your posts on Bloodhorse blogs (I believe you’re the same Dani) as well. I am Barbara W on those blogs.
Regarding Barbaro, I believe this is the anniversary of Barbaro’s leaving us. RIP, sweet, brave one.

Kathryn….the article in the Horse said Mrs. Pickens asked for $500 not $50. BLM said their cost was $450 so it would be more costly going with the $500. Those of us that own horses know there is no way a horse can be cared for properly for $500 so we know that Ms.Pickens would be spending her own funds to help the mustangs. Bless her for her generousity and let’s hope someone makes the BLM come to their senses. The round ups cost the lives of babies and life in the holding pens for an animal that is used to running free is cruel. I have regular correspondence with my Representative and Senators regarding the BLM.
Queen Z….hope you’re having a great day and thinking about your new beau!
Kathryn Cogswell
Dear ‘QHG’ ~ I meant to write the difference as you state. Thank you for the correction as written. The heart-breaking, tiresome thing for me is the idea that these horses, other creatures there, and the wildlands they inhabit could even be considered ‘theirs’ to place costs/values on, eradicate. Seems to me the lands should be heritage for future generations and, while partially used historically as entitled for other ventures, should be kept as they came to us, defining their profitability in terms other than ‘bottom-line’ mind-sets. My thinking is admittedly based on the sentiments of a little girl in the West, years ago. It`s also unapologetically so now, too.
Kathryn Cogswell
Above ‘theirs’ ^ is referring to BLM/vested interests . .. Kc.

Hi Zen, so happy about the news of your big date coming up…..can’t be too soon we are all so anxious for you to become a mother. I’d also like to mention as others have the memory of our beloved Barbaro. I received a commemorative Bloodhorse issue from their book dept. Exclusively Equine, and it is a lovely tribute to him and all he went thru. I would recommend it to all, it’s only $1.00. Just reminds me of how fortunate you were to have the connections you did (no reflection on his owners) and so much luck to retire safe. I know that angel John put on your bridle helped plus all your fans prayers for a safe trip each time you raced. We are so lucky to have you. Luv and kisses on your nose
Patricia
Who is this Pickens person…I think Imissed something? anyone have any comments to catch me up with the posts!
Thanks
Kathryn Cogswell
JOAN: See Above, where QUARTERHOSSGAL better interpreted the article & correctly. This has been a couple of skittish-keyboard days for this part of ‘The Diary Gang,’ as DANI named us. Kc.

Dear LINDA in NJ: Hi. ‘BLM Nixes Pickens’ Wild Horse Sanctuary Plan’ http://www.thehorse.com/ViewArticle.aspx?ID=17601, is the article & if you ‘google’ ‘Madeleine Pickens` ‘Wild Horse Sanctury,’ you may choose from lots of articles introducing her and her cause. She`s quite extraordinary. Kc.
Kathryn Cogswell
Oop! PATRICIA! Meant above ^ in answer to your note, too. K.

Today is indeed the memorial for our beloved Barbaro who captured the hearts of a nation for his brilliant races and especially for the brave fight he fought to stay alive. He was very special and had a wonderful personality similar to our Z. I will always remember him.
ENSIGN
I’m sure everyone here knows, but for the few that may not, Madeleine Pickens was Madeleine Paulson and with her former husband owned Breeders’ Cup winners Eliza, Fraise, and of course, Cigar :-)

@Suzanne G — thank you for the link to the Lovato article. He describes our pre-race feelings and tension perfectly. And we will never forget the crowd’s post-race reaction, both disappointment for Zenyatta with her courageous, heroic run and deafening applause for her as she ran and as she returned to the grandstand. It was an experience we will never forget and we are so happy we were able to be there for it, for her.
It is always wonderful to hear jockeys’ reaction to Zenyatta and her greatness. Lovato, Mike Smith, and Richard Migliore who said there is an “energy” surrounding Zenyatta that he only ever experienced with one other horse — Seattle Slew. Perhaps no other affected us as much as Garrett Gomez’ comment on the way to the winner’s circle aboard Blame after the BCC. He said, “She’s the best I have ever seen.”
