Good Morning,
While we are out in the field, relaxing, I always like to share a bit of ‘GIRL TALK’ with my friends. I spent some time yesterday afternoon visiting with them about their ‘personal plans’. I was wondering if their families had reviewed their breeding options with them like mine did with me.
We all have our thoughts…and obviously our pedigrees, body types, and personal histories are very different…so these factors do significantly influence WHO we can DATE! It is kinda’ fun to be chit-chatting about all of this with my friends. We are MAIDEN MARES. That is the term for mares who have not been bred before….so we have TONS to talk about with each other.
At Barn 55, while out grazing, we talked about staying fit, our training programs, our races, and all of the various fun projects we were involved in each day! NOW….the conversations are so different. At this time, it is my GIRLY-GIRL side that is really coming to the fore-front! I am truthfully so feminine at heart…and I’m having fun developing this side of my personality as well.
It is interesting how we go through different STAGES in our life. I’ve been a weanling, yearling, racehorse (HORSE OF THE YEAR…a real WOW…if I say so myself—-BLUSH, BLUSH), and now I’m going to be a broodmare. A MOM!!! This is so exciting! Once I get this under control…what will be next???? I just LOVE THINKING ABOUT MY FUTURE and ALL THAT IT HOLDS!
Some of you have asked, what is John’s favorite name for me? IT IS ZENNY. John always calls me this. It is always expressed in such a loving tone…and definitely meant to be a TERM OF ENDEARMENT!
Off to play and chit-chat with my friends and discuss lots and lots of GIRL STUFF!! We are having FUN!
With Love,
HUGS TO ALL~
Z

RobbiePK: By the time I left for dinner, couldn`t put two sentences together w/out error or typo & hair like Booth Cartoon harridan [*See, esp. The New Yorker, back from salon, addressing husband in Stanley Kowalsky-mode; cat`s & dog`s nails dug in, single bulb hung from cracked ceiling: ‘It`s called “The Ziggurat [think ‘Tower of Babel’].”‘ Sometimes it pays to take a break.

Dear Zenyatta I did not get to write last night I was so busy. Good morning from cold Onio. The children say hi too. I hope you enjoy your time with your girlfriends. You so deserve it. One of my students wrote about you in a book. I am going to send a copy to Mrs. Moss. Zenyatta you inspire all no matter what the age. I love you so. Hugs and kisses from Shari in Ohio XXXOOO

Congratulations on your date with Bernardini. I was somewhat surprised that they didn’t choose Bernardini’s dad, AP Indy, but maybe you’ll meet him next year.
When you are at Jonabell Farm, keep your eyes out for the statue of Affirmed. Affirmed was the last horse to win the Triple Crown (in 1978) and he stood at Jonabell, where he is also buried. I visited Affirmed several times and he was the most magnificent horse I ever saw in person.
I also saw Bernardini’s grandfather, Seattle Slew. Bernardini’s great-grandfather, Spectacular Bid, was also one of my favorite horses. He was the horse who got me interested in horse racing when I was a kid.
I hope you and Bernardini get a chance to “chat” and maybe can get a picture together after your date.

Dear Zenny,
So excited to hear the announcement about Bernardini! He’s a fine looking stallion. :)
Can’t wait to follow you through this exciting chapter in your life, and watching your belly grow.
Hugs and Kisses from Ohio. XOXOXO

I love the pedigree and selection of Bernardini to sire your first foal. How exciting. He is stunning and an appealing match for you. You have a wonderful year ahead of you. I submitted a name for your baby and it is in keeping with the Moss’ way of naming after Police albums, it is simple, “Synchronicity”, because of the beautiful meaning of the word, “meaningful coincidences”. The union of you and Bernardini is not just by chance, there were many circumstances throughout history that manifested to bring you both to this place. Call it destiny or fate but a lot had to happen to line the stars up “just so”. That’s Synchronicity, baby!

I hear that Bernardini is a handsome fellow and comes from great pedigree woohoo girlfriend you landed a masterpiece..(whisper in ear) you have to tell us all about it I can’t wait

I think you will have a beautiful foal and Bernardini is some stud! Thanks for keeping us up to date on all your daily activities. One question, how do your hooves fit on that little keyboard?:)
Cheryl
Congrats! Who will own your baby? I have a few name suggestions, one is Ayita which is Cherokee for 1st to Dance or Wachiwi which is Souix for Dancer! or even Eatamydust (LOL). Anyway Good Luck and much love to you as always. Send our best to Bernardini, and your Team.

nice stuff:)
Since Zenyatta has the world at her hooves and everything she does, every carrot she eats, every morsel of oat she blows out of her feeding bag is always so anticipated,and now everybody knows her first foal will just be the most thought about/cared for by many many people. It is indeed her gift. How about for the name to be Zenyatta’s Valentine, Valentino Valentina.

Actually, Indiana Charlie and Medaglio d’Oro would also be a good fit for the Queen. As Street Cry would be a good fit for Rachel Alexandra. Funny how that works. Curlin is not a good fit at all for Zenny. Looking ahead for more babies.
L
@Carolyn,
No nursery would leave a foal on a mare past standard weaning time. It wouldn’t be good for either the foal or the mare. Remember if all goes according to procedure Zenyatta will be rebred on her foal heat and be in foal again. Just like the wild, her own body will need to wean her older foal to prepare and nourish the foal in utero.
Both Zenyatta and her foal will be upset for a day then Zenyatta will be relaxing back with her girlfriends and her foal will be in a big paddock with his/her friends.

Hello, Zenny, Barnardini is one lucky stud to be chosen for your mate. He is very handsome and comes from a long line of winners. He might have to stand on the tips of his hooves on your wedding night because he is 4″ shorter than you, but where there’s a will there’s a way. ;) Gee, baby names..for a girl: Zenardini, for a boy: Beryatta. The most important thing is for your baby and you to be healthy. We know he/she will be beautiful. ˙·٠•●♥♥●•٠·

Is there a limit on how many letters the name can have? If so, how many? In keeping with the Sting names for good luck – I like Everylittlethingshedoesismagic, or maybe Lovesneakinuponyou

I have also always called you Zenny. Sitting here watching you run, I would stand and yell “run, Zenny, run pretty girl”. Then when you won I would applaud and applaud. Even in the last BC, I applauded you and your effort! I know you are a “girly girl”, but you are a tuff, guttsy “girly girl”. You are to be so admired for being the epitome of a great Thoroughbred!

Can’t wait for the date with Bernardini! He sure is one handsome fella, I bet he doesn’t realize how lucky he is. Good luck Z, I hope it’s a boy!

@ Jennifer Remazki,
.
While Synchronicity is a beautiful name choice, it’s already in use by another horse, which means it can not be used again for some time.
.
There ARE rules regarding the naming of any Jockey Club registered TB. You can check the availability of names here, as well as follow the link to the naming rules : )

Nice informative posts regarding shipping mares and weaning. Glad to see some others familiar with farm life on here.

SANTA ANITA FEB 5. Still don’t know what time presentation is is will fix a time/place when I hear. Meanwhile, Ladies Lounge could use some gently used books, preferably Spanish. Office supplies- ream of paper, box of pens, folders, toiletries (good chance to get rid of that lotion someone gave you for xmas that your’ll never use). So if u are thinking of going to Santa Anita on 5th, please consider taking any of above for the Zenyatta Ladies Lounge. There is going to be a large box set out for us to put our donations in, again waiting for details, but it’s never too soon to start collecting! Will post with details as soon as I have some.
JJV – ‘Zenadini’ love it.

I know this will be a silly question for the horse aficiando’s out there, but curious about of few things. Maybe someone out there can answer.
*** Will Z stay awhile at B’s stable while breeding or will she go there the day of schedule session, then leave?
*** Second question, will her regular crew be with her to monitor her during breeding? And do you think John will be there?
Thank you in advance to whomever answers my VERY elementary questions. :/
L
@Livey,
Look for the posts by ENSIGN, they are very informative and have addressed your questions. But to share again.
1) She will ship to Bernardini, be bred and ship back to LEF in the same day. She will not board at Darley.
2) It is highly unlikely John would be there for her breeding. He is a trainer, not a studmaster or broodmare manager.

Enjoy your 1st “Date”. Peace & Happiness to you Z.

Whatever the name – “ZEN” must come first!
Great fun following you, Zenyatta!
Good luck.

Thanks L. Yes, I’m a BIG fan of Ensign’s post….missed when breezing through thread-sorry folks do not have time to read them all, but appreciate info., especially that no snarkiness was attached ;)
@Ensign-L directed me to you post on her and have to say your last sentence made lol. Thank you and please continue to post, truly enjoy.
Love you Z. :)

So curious what the Mosses will name the little foal… Long time to wait yet:)
My favourite names for a filly are:
‘Précieux’ (precious in french – going with the french theme like her mom and half-sister)
Leggenda (italian for legend)
Would have also loved Vitesse (french for speed) and Esprit (french for spirit) but they were last used in 1988 so I think that is still too close to be re-used…
My colt names were: Prezioso and Favoloso (both italian) and Accelerate – but they are all in use – so someone has the same taste as me LOL
Wonder who Zenyatta’s friends will be bred to. P.Q has such a sweet face!
Love y’a Zenny!!
borntobreed
@kitel
Zenny will chose her mate. If she breeds with him she has chosen if she does not breed she is not interestd in him. I think
Capone has her primed and she is so much
more feminine now. Although we all love the race track warrior. Bernardini has a very kind gentle eye. I love his head. It is very unique.
L
@Borntobreed,
Incorrect. Zenyatta will have no say in the breeding. She will be teased to test for receptiveness to a stallion, any stallion and then she will most likely be hobbled for the safety of herself and Bernardini.
