Good Morning,
While we are out in the field, relaxing, I always like to share a bit of ‘GIRL TALK’ with my friends. I spent some time yesterday afternoon visiting with them about their ‘personal plans’. I was wondering if their families had reviewed their breeding options with them like mine did with me.
We all have our thoughts…and obviously our pedigrees, body types, and personal histories are very different…so these factors do significantly influence WHO we can DATE! It is kinda’ fun to be chit-chatting about all of this with my friends. We are MAIDEN MARES. That is the term for mares who have not been bred before….so we have TONS to talk about with each other.
At Barn 55, while out grazing, we talked about staying fit, our training programs, our races, and all of the various fun projects we were involved in each day! NOW….the conversations are so different. At this time, it is my GIRLY-GIRL side that is really coming to the fore-front! I am truthfully so feminine at heart…and I’m having fun developing this side of my personality as well.
It is interesting how we go through different STAGES in our life. I’ve been a weanling, yearling, racehorse (HORSE OF THE YEAR…a real WOW…if I say so myself—-BLUSH, BLUSH), and now I’m going to be a broodmare. A MOM!!! This is so exciting! Once I get this under control…what will be next???? I just LOVE THINKING ABOUT MY FUTURE and ALL THAT IT HOLDS!
Some of you have asked, what is John’s favorite name for me? IT IS ZENNY. John always calls me this. It is always expressed in such a loving tone…and definitely meant to be a TERM OF ENDEARMENT!
Off to play and chit-chat with my friends and discuss lots and lots of GIRL STUFF!! We are having FUN!
With Love,
HUGS TO ALL~

Hi Zenny, it is good to know that your date has been chosen for you. I’m sure that your family chose the very best for you. It is good to know the info. I wish the very best for you and I know you will have a beautiful baby. I understand the pedigree is excelent. I will check it out because I’m not familiar with Bernardini. Congradulations dear baby girl. Have fun with your girl talk. Alot of bad weather going your way and hope you will be able to get out to prance around. Love you Zenyatta.

You have always looked very Feminine to me even when racing and working your hardest. I don’t know but when I look at all of the pictures I have found of you the feminine just is there- perhaps it is a softness in your eyes.

Ok.. finally we have our first date…My question is: Usually the mare goes to the Stud (Bernardini where he stands) so will Zenyatta be going to stay at Darley Stud at Jonabell Farm untill she is in foal? If so what will her days be like? or will she come home to Lanes End after each breeding because you don’t want to leave her out of her comfort zone and caretakers. I do love your choose. What a Lucky Guy Bernardini is..Be sure he buy’s you a nice dinner and then you can teach him how to dance…<3
Pam Zacek,
Oh wow, girly talk is the best get it right, and know the score, I want you to pick the best stud, for you, and Im sure, John, will help big time with that one, so, I know you will be the best mommy, that there is. Will pray, all goes perfect with the whole pregnacy and you have the best new winner, of all. Love you Z

Jean –
Normally the mare, in this case Zenyatta will be vanned to Darley, the breeding will take place, and then she will be immediately vanned back to Lane’s End.
If she does not get in foal, the process will be repeated.

Dear Zenny
So very excited about the choice of Bernardini. He was
talked about a lot by many in your diary. He is so very
handsome and talented. Surprised it was not a veteran but
I bet Mr Kronfeld had some reccomendations since
you and your mom will be bred to the same stallion.
I do think he is a great choice as his dad is AP Indy so you
get those great genes ,he is
younger, doesn’t have the cryptorchid issue and has more
stamina.
Enjoy all your girl talk. This is going to be a great and
wonderful giant step for you in your new career. Thanks so
much to the Mosses, Sherriffs and Lanes End for sharing
you with all of us.
Make sure there is lots of Guiness and carrot cake after
the exciting event. The Mosses and Sherriffs will take care
of you on your big day.
Sweet dreams dear Zenny
Jeanne
Bernardini was a good choice. I hope that everything will go smoothly for Zenyatta in the months ahead and she will produce a Triple Crown winner (that Mike Smith will get to ride)!

PS. I think you are both very lucky to have each other. You are
both great champions and both came in second in the BCC.
ZENYATTA and BERNARDINI XXXXOOO.

Dear baby girl Z, I happy to hear about your up coming date…what a lucky guy! I miss so much the fact that you’re not going to be on the track this year.
Love you,

Hope you enjoy your Zenyatta statue. Were you
able to bid on the Zenyatta Moneigh? It went
for over $4000. Save your pennies for one of
her multi million dollar foals if sold at Keenland.
Have fun!!!!!!

My Sweet Lady Zenyatta, I love the photo of you and your friend chatting in the field. What an exciting time for you & Team Z. I believe you will stay at Land’s End and Bernardini will court you there. That’s only right that he comes to see you at your home! I always said I wish Secretariat was alive, he would be prefect! I now know he’s smiling down from heaven along with Seattle Slew over Bernardini being picked for you. Berardini is perfect for you!!I wonder if Bernardini will be nervous to meet you?
Zenyatta, can you tell us who your girlfriends’ families have picked for them? I would like to follow the 4 of you through your pregnancies! I am so excited just trying to imagine what he or she will look like. I just pray that God continues to Bless you, keeps you safe & healthy. You are going to be a GREAT MOM! I love you, Zenyatta so much. Hugs & Kisses From Alabama, Love, Amanda G.

I’m very excited for you, Zenny, that you have a first date! I was pleased to hear that John’s favorite name for you is Zenny, because that’s what I call you, too! Have an awesome day with your MM’S tomorrow. You seem like a really happy girl lately, Zen, and that makes me happy :)

When I was dating, my parents always wanted to know, “Who are his parents?” It’s a southern question.
Well, your date, Zenyatta has very good parents and grandparents.
Nancy
Well I know its not quite as romantic as they all say here. But love you and wish you had a little more time to just be a horse. Good luck , we miss you in Cali.

So.o.o excited the bloodlines are amazing on Bernardini! A P might be jealous that it’s not him. But he certainly can be a proud Papa! Please be very careful breeding our Queen. Love you Z

Zenny, I didn’t see it officially announced on this post that Bernardini is the first choice but he has my vote. Now I have to check him out further. Why can’t he not come to visit you at LE instead of vice-versa? Is there a reason other than “male ego”? I pray that all goes well with the breeding and your life as a broodmare. I’m also keeping your girlfriends in my prayers. I’m very sure that you will make an excellent Mom because you’re so kind and gentle. I look forward to seeing your babies race in the not so distant future. Hugs and kisses to you.

Bernardini is a very classy guy, and an excellent choice for your first one. Hope all goes well…fingers & toes crossed for you, Lady Z!

Zenyatta dear,
Today while I was out riding my tall dark handsome thoroughbred, also a retired race horse, he whispered a message that I just have to pass on to you. He suggested that you might want to consider a third career — that is besides racing and being a mom – because you are so multi talented! With your talents as a dancer you’d be great doing exhibitions in dressage! Wouldn’t that be a crowd pleaser! The Queen of Racing out there showing people that retired TB’s have so much to offer after their racing careers! OK, I know, you are busy prepping for your meeting with handsome Bernardini . . . what a pair you will make! Love and Horse Hugs!

@Snoprinz
Someone else asked why the mare visits the stallion. It’s because the stallion will service multiple mares in one day during breeding season. Easier for him to be in one place than shipping all over to the different mares.
lizzy
Well, a facebook poster mentioned that he met your future suitor and it sounds like he is a lot like you! Friendly and kind. I can only imagine what a beautiful baby you will have and a loving mother you will be. I believe its a perfect match. Congrats Z and I hope you like him :| He looks like a keeper ;) Oh, and stay safe in the snow out there. :)

Dear Zenny, the word is out and we are all so thrilled.I have been reading all of your fans reply’s to the news….BERNARDINI is the chosen ONE! Sounds like Cupid, has shot his arrow and the big event should be around Valentine’s Day ! So, now time enough to plan the big day, how about a Carrot Bouquet for the beautiful bride? The thrilling news is that you will have one gorgeous groom, and a darling little foal, from this very royal union ! I instantly thought of Zenardini, as a name for our future heir to the kingdom. xxxoxoxo to you Z !!

While it’s nearly impossible to think of any stallion that is good enough for Zenyatta, I applaud the choice of Bernardini as brilliant!
Linda
Hi Zenny – The Thoroughbred Times has a name the Zenyatta/Bernardini foal contest with a Zenyatta prize package to the lucky winner – I imagine you and the girls have some ideas of your own – have fun today.
Carolyn
I wouldnt be surprized if Zenyatta keeps her foal longer than six months. IF Ann Moss knows that Zenyatta is crying and missing her beloved very first foal, I bet they leave the foal with Zenyattta for awhile longer. We already know they are not going to sell any of them , and certainly not the very first one, And we also know John Sherrifs will more than likely train the foal, and he lets them mature into themselves, So I wont be surprised it Zenyatta doesnt keep her foal unntil he is a little over the six months age when they start weaning them.
Nancy L
At first I was surprised by the Bernardini choice but… Great trueNicks rating, the half sister history etc make it logical. And Zenyatta is by a stud that was not all that famous until she began stealing the spotlight. Goodluck Team Zenyatta! I am enough of a romantic to like that owner of a Zenny half sister colt (?filly?) 2 year old said he had plans to send the horse to John.

Dear Bob Rose ~ Love your reflections.

Well Lady Z, your first valentine is Bernardini. Nice choice. Your family has researched and thought long and hard. You are so very lucky this arranged choice is very good. Take care my dear lady and have a beautifuly day.
jeanie langford
I am surprised. I guess they felt it was too big of a chance with A.P and his age. Bernadini looks good though.
