Good Morning,
While we are out in the field, relaxing, I always like to share a bit of ‘GIRL TALK’ with my friends. I spent some time yesterday afternoon visiting with them about their ‘personal plans’. I was wondering if their families had reviewed their breeding options with them like mine did with me.
We all have our thoughts…and obviously our pedigrees, body types, and personal histories are very different…so these factors do significantly influence WHO we can DATE! It is kinda’ fun to be chit-chatting about all of this with my friends. We are MAIDEN MARES. That is the term for mares who have not been bred before….so we have TONS to talk about with each other.
At Barn 55, while out grazing, we talked about staying fit, our training programs, our races, and all of the various fun projects we were involved in each day! NOW….the conversations are so different. At this time, it is my GIRLY-GIRL side that is really coming to the fore-front! I am truthfully so feminine at heart…and I’m having fun developing this side of my personality as well.
It is interesting how we go through different STAGES in our life. I’ve been a weanling, yearling, racehorse (HORSE OF THE YEAR…a real WOW…if I say so myself—-BLUSH, BLUSH), and now I’m going to be a broodmare. A MOM!!! This is so exciting! Once I get this under control…what will be next???? I just LOVE THINKING ABOUT MY FUTURE and ALL THAT IT HOLDS!
Some of you have asked, what is John’s favorite name for me? IT IS ZENNY. John always calls me this. It is always expressed in such a loving tone…and definitely meant to be a TERM OF ENDEARMENT!
Off to play and chit-chat with my friends and discuss lots and lots of GIRL STUFF!! We are having FUN!
With Love,
HUGS TO ALL~

Nice choice in Bernardini! Should be a fabulous foal

Stephanie Lambert: What a fabulous post,
telling about how the feeling of Zenyatta’s magic and beautiful spirit will be felt for ages to come in every horse who comes from her line. The first plans for that line are beginning
right here, right now. Amazing. And aren’t we blessed to be living in the world while Zenyatta is actually here?!?!
We’re getting to live it all with her. There are no words with enough meaning to thank Team Z adequately. Lovely, loving,
generous people.
Boo
You could just hear the little baby filly trying to teach Z to catch up with her at first.. ” Mamma you take too long to catch up!!! Hurry up mamma! Then Z disappears, and little baby girl is left in the in the dust and wonders…”Where’s mamma!??”
Carina
I love all of your nicknames, but ZENNY is my favourite, too! :)
Thank you SO MUCH for keeping a diary, Zenny, your happiness is so important to all of your fans. xoxoxo

Wonderful Z, how exciting Bernardini. Wow you must be so excited. I thought he was a cool race horse. I need to think of a cool name. Hmmm. Let’s see? I love you girlfriend.
Vicki
Well Zenyatta I’ve never met your future beau in person, but I have met his parents and they were and are wonderful horses. I am happy for you, now you and your fans can sleep instead of wondering who your beau will be. Sleep tight!
Lori Stein
WOW-BERNARDINI! He flew under my radar, but he sounds like a great choice. He has a beautiful pedigree. Does he have any idea how lucky he is? I guess he’ll find out soon. Hear from you soon Big Z.
P.S. Your know he’s going to fall in love with you, how could he not, everyone else is! Love, Lori
Sunny Boyd
Evening Zetty,
wow, you know now who your beau is going to be, ‘Bernadini’. Good luck, Sweetie, and have him bring a ton of carrots for starters, don’t go for cheap:)
Zee-Bee for a name ??? Bernadatta???
And not on the first try, hehehe, have him cough up a substantial amount of Guinness, and haystuffed oatmeal poppers with mint chips, yeah , a ton of those, and he might get a peek at your socks without a kick. You’re the one everybody wants to be with, just remember that. Sweet dreams of all your favorites
Ollie
Zen, now that all of your faithful fans
know who will be your “first” I want to
say YIPEE for all involved in the selection of Bernardini.Lots of love to
you and your CA family.
Jackie
Good Evening Queen “Z”. What a lucky horse Bernadini is. If he only knew! Congrats! I think you are going to make a wonderful mommy!
Again, Dottie, thanks for the updates. Looking forward to more pictures.
Hugs and kisses

Good night, sweet Z. I hear you’re in for more snow up there, so snuggle in tonight. Can’t wait for more updates.
I’ll bet Penny Chenery is wishing she could have had a diary like this for Secretariat. Wouldn’t that have been fun??
Love you always, sweetie.
Happy Harriet
Zenyatta, your young man is quite the handsome fella! My guess is that your devoted family told you first, then made the announcements publicly and formally, and will share the insider scoop with us Diary readers very soon. I’d be very curious to know what Pirate Queen, Sea Gull and Alyse had to say about the news. I, like so many other here I’d imagine, feel like an I’m gonna be a Grandma! Anyone have the urge to knit a baby blanket? LOL I think the knitting and crocheting of little things for new babies is more about working off nerves and worry than anything else! Zenyatta, you give us so much to look forward to. You are the Queen of Hope and Hearts. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Moss, Dottie and John, and David and probably many others, who worked so smartly and diligently on this all important selection.

Hello Beautiful Girl,
The Blood-Horse announced your beau will be Bernardini! He is very handsome and just the right age for you – 7 years old! I saw him at the races in 2006 and he was great!
Oh, I’m so happy for you, but I have to check out his lineage to make sure he has no physical weaknesses that were passed on to him. Good news is, he has Secretariat in his blood line and Princequillo – marvelous! Your team has made an excellent choice.
I shall go to sleep tonight happy.
Hugs and Kisses,
NancyP

I hope Bernardini is gentle with you Zenyatta. As for names for the foal. How about Zendini? Or Bernyatta? Or in honor of your great trainer JohnnyS?
The fun begins and I hope whichever the foal is, colt or filly, it’s healthy, happy and has all your traits.
Darlene
I like Queenie or Houdini….rather than Zucchini or Big Weenie~
Wendy
This is all really sweet, but truthfully, she isn’t going to have enough time to fall in love with the stallion. It’s more like a quickie visit and he is on to other gals. Hopefully they will have time for a guiness or something to break the ice.

I have never had faith that great mares make great producers….till now!!! I have never in my long life working with race horses seen the likes of you Zenny, and I know it will carry on in your foals. Especially with John as their trainer and the Mosses and Dottie making the decision to use a timely approach with them as far as when to race them. I worked for big outfits, Cain Hoy, King Ranch, C.V. Whitney, Bunker Hunt, etc., etc., and learned early on that the great ones may come along slowly. We nicknamed them Ole Country, Big John, etc., as they were kinda clumsy early on in their training. Knowing your babies will be developed properly with Master Trainer John Shirreffs and the owners I worship most in my lifetime, Jerry and Ann Moss along with Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs, I’m positive your foals will follow in Mommies hoof-prints! I am so glad you told Dottie that you enjoyed being called Zenny, cuz I have type your name thousands of times now, and out of respect never once shortened it up from Zenyatta…but as long as you love being called Zenny, my hunt and peck method of typing will be a lot less painful. See, you’re still enriching my life. The thrill of actually meeting and kissing you still has me on cloud nine! Enjoy being a mama Queen, it’ll be even more thrilling than passing entire fields of horses thru the lane :)
Wendy
There’s already a baby naming contest going on, and Zendini has been listed a million times. Go to Bernardinis facebook, and you can enter from there.
Jamie
Wow, I have looked at Bernardini’s pedigree and it is very impressive. A great choice. I was a fan of his when he raced. He did very well but not as good as you, Zenny.
Love and hugs
Pam
Bernadini is a good match for you, Z. He’s almost as handsome as you are pretty. I just hope we get to see pictures of you with your baby.
Carole Cole
What wonderful news! I just learned of the announcement of your mating partner! I’m sure your family is relieved to have come to their decision for you and I hope you are going to be very pleased with your handsome beau. Congratulations Queen Z and congratulations to Bernardini…..he has no idea how lucky he is!! I’m also happy for Secretariat’s connections…..very special.

Wow!! Bernardini… I didn’t stop to think about him but he is a hunky looking stallion. Too bad Barbaro isn’t around…now THERE was a hunk! Well, I’m so excited for you!! You’re gonna be a MAMA!! You’ll love having your own “Little Z” to love, and I have no doubts you’ll be a good mama. You have so much to look forward to… Thank you for taking us with you… Love you so much..

trackgirl
WooHoo! What a baby that will be! Good match! Sooo…who’s next? Can’t wait, Mommy Zen!
Bonnie MacRaith
Zenny, I’ve heard that Bernardini has a nice personality, likes to pose for the camera and has been known to “cut a rug” from time to time. All this tells me you might just hit it off and have a very nice little “dini” on your hands come next January. ;=)
